Sanford corrects the record -- again

Well, it looks like South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) wasn't telling the whole truth at that press conference where he revealed his affair with an Argentine woman.

In an interview with the AP, Sanford

disclosed that met seven times with the woman -- more than he initially claimed. The governor "described five meetings with Maria Belen Chapur over the past year, including two romantic, multi-night stays with her in New York before they met there again intending to break up. He said he met her two other times -- their first meeting in 2001 at an open-air dance spot in Uruguay and a coffee date in New York in 2004 during the Republican National Convention. He said neither time was romantic."

More: "It was the first disclosure of any liaisons with Chapur in the United States and contradicted a public confession last week during which Sanford admitted to a total of five encounters over their eight-year relationship."

I don't think he's going to make it. And really, for Senator Graham to decide what should go on in Gov. Sanford's marriage is ridiculous. Evidently only what Graham and the voters approve of matters in this instance?

I personally would prefer to see a marriage end in divorce rather than see the spouse resort to lying and cheating. I don't care about the voters or Graham and their dictating to Sanford on how he should proceed. There are children involved here. This is what's really important.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm tired of these charades. Really tired of them.

Stop thinking political figures will be your saviour. Only Christ and a return to Him will bring blessing back to this nation. It's incredible that our little republican protectors blame Clinton, Sharpton and the like for Sanford's predicament. You guys tried to impeach a president for what was at the worst, basic stupidity, but condone dereliction of duty and AWOL for a state commander in chief.

Lindsay Graham said we are all sinners and Mitt Romney said the basic Christian foundation of a man and a woman are present to make this a successful family again and I wonder what gays and lesbians have done to disqualify themselves from being quality parents.

Sex among consenting adults has no correlation with good government. The republicans show once more they have no idea what good government is any way.

Yesterday, Clara made a great point. With more and more women entering national politics we hear very little in the way of sexual scandal involving female office holders. Will they be scrutinized as superficially as their male counterparts when it does occur? Or will they be ridiculed for their power as Nancy Pelosi and Hilary Clinton are? The gender barrier marches on...

I don't care about Sanford's affairs. Personally, I don't care about his going AWOL, but I sure would if I lived in SC. But I find it absolutely beyond belief that he could claim to be morally superior, demand a hearing on Bill Clinton's affair, and demand Bill Clinton's resignation and then go off and do what he did.

The republicans unleashed the "attack the politician because of his affairs" tactic with Clinton and now it is simply being turned back on them.
