GOP watch: The Palin 'train wreck'?

Posted: Thursday, July 09, 2009 9:18 AM by Domenico Montanaro
Filed Under:

Republican strategist (and NBC analyst) Mike Murphy again takes on Sarah Palin. He calls her "the political train wreck that keeps on giving." He said she "brought nothing to the [McCain] ticket except a surefire knack for exciting voters who were already reliably Republican." More: "We are now told the party base -- those voters who will vote for a bag of cement if it has an R or D attached to it -- must be carefully appealed to, romanced and appeased. Under that funhouse reasoning, Palin was an inspired pick." And: "She lacks any real accomplishment - no military or private-sector career of note, no academic achievement beyond a frenetic bounce between five colleges, including a sun 'n' surf-oriented outfit in Hawaii. She has served only two years as governor of a small and uniquely easy-to-govern state (other governors pine for Alaska's small population and billions of dollars in easy revenue from oil production), a job she has now abandoned." To her presidential chances? "[S]he may have enough support to attempt a run for President. She'll lose, of course, almost certainly the Republican primaries and certainly the general election."

Video: According to recent polls, three in ten Americans saw their opinion of Sarah Palin change after her resignation. Newsweek’s Howard Fineman discusses the decrease in her popularity.

The cover of Time magazine is on Palin.

Are you sure this Republican strategist isn't really a wolf in sheep's clothing?

Sounds like a set-up to me. Maybe that's because Mike Murphy works for NBC.

We're not stupid, guys.
Nothing new in Murphy's take on Palin.  It was funny tho!

I saw Pat Buchanan was back yesterday.  He cracks me up really.  Sure enjoy Larry O this week.  He needs his own show. I wonder if that's whats in the works?  Mike Domenico, there's the question of the week!  When's Lawrence O'Donnell going to get his own show?
Dah...and she resigns after she was elected. He knew she was under qualified for the run, let alon the office. Talk about lipstick on a pig...she was never qualified.
Murphy has nailed the Wicked Wasilla Witch perfectly, as well as McKinnon did the other day on the Rachel Maddow show.  It is so funny to watch the moderate republic party operatives trash Quitter Palin and they are so correct to summarize that she was nothing but much ado about nothing.

While she still remains popular with the base of the party of sore losers she's becoming more and more hated by Mainstream America.

Domenico nailed the headline on this article as the media's fascination with Quitter Palin is that of watching a perpetual train wreck happening.  The media just loves it when some idiot goes public and talks nonsense.  Sinner Sarah has brought this media attention upon herself long before she was ever ready for prime time and we can all see how ignorant and dishonest this diva is.  She is just too ignorant to realize her best course is to shut up and try to educate herself better before trying again, but she's too arrogant and ignorant to ever do teh smart thing.

Just Say No to the Wicked Wasilla Witch!
Can't we all just get beyond Palin?
Peter Percival Patterson, you're either stupid or you're hitting the Kool-Aid too hard.  Murphy's track record is a helluva lot better than Palin's.  Throwing someone else outta the big tent, are we?
As a new Democrat, I love Sarah Palin!  I like Sarah the same way I liked Jesse Jackson when I was a Reagan Republican.  It would be a shame if the Republicans came up with someone who was qualified and had some good ideas.  Luckily, it doesn't seem that is imminent.
"We are now told the party base -- those voters who will vote for a bag of cement if it has an R or D attached to it -- must be carefully appealed to, romanced and appeased."

A new spin on voting for a sack of potatoes...
He needs his own show. I wonder if that's whats in the works?  Mike Domenico, there's the question of the week!  When's Lawrence O'Donnell going to get his own show

Funny Cindy... I've been thinking the EXACT same thing... and he's been on Morning Joke all week as well!  But hey... in NO way am I complaining ;0)

So FR Guys... can you give us a hint??
Sarah Palin claimed unfairness from the press towards her and her family as part of her reason for stepping down as governor of Alaska. How could she expect anything less as a candidate for national office?
After 18 years under the microscope, Hillary Clinton has been by far the most harassed woman, liberal or conservative, I have ever witnessed. We all know that Sarah Palin, is an extremely photogenic woman. Hillary, although not unattractive, has had every body part ridiculed, from the tip of her 'do to her “fat” ankles. At the age of 60, her “big butt” was bounced around the media like a beach ball, even though my own butt would make Hillary’s look tiny. Her alleged sordid sexual affairs ranged from Janet Reno, who a presidential candidate joked was the father of Chelsea, to the newest revelation, Vince Foster (who I thought Bill Clinton had offed because of Whitewater, according to Russettes.) This has gone on for years, not months, and I am sure part of what attracted Hillary to SOS was getting away from the spotlight.

It would be foolish to underestimate Sarah Palin, as she is neither dumb nor naive. She has powers of manipulation and persuasion that other politicians can only dream about. I would bet she always had her way as a child and teenager and is obviously miffed when things don’t go her way today. In her statement of giving two week notice to the people of Alaska, she was determined to speak without a teleprompter, as if to prove she could do what her fans say President Obama cannot.
In this world when eating a record 68 hot dogs will make Joey Chestnut millions and a not so hot hooker can make even more by bringing down (no pun intended) a governor, who can blame Sarah for seeking the gold brick road. She won’t need to fact check (see: Rush, O’Reilly, etc.,) and her physical presence can be used to optimum effect. Has anyone noticed the tighter jeans and spandex jogging shorts? She will thrive in her new gig, whatever it is. The money available is mind boggling as Rush will brag about his $40 million a year. I just hope Sarah falls in love with the job and sees the downsize of campaigning, because we need more rational discussion on the national stage, which I do not believe would be possible with her as a national candidate…
If I may borrow a nickname, Bible Spice will make so much dough in her new gig, she may not be able to afford to take the pay cut to run for president.
Why should we think this person can manage our country when she can't even keep her daughter informed enough to not have a child out of marriage.  She is supposed to have raised a family that has morals that we find acceptable enough to want to have her run this country?
MSNBC is just a bunch of simple minded and vote democrat like a bag of cement like the mafia uses  in it's mindless pursuit.
MSNBC is so slanted left, even their Republican strategist can't see right.
Sarah the Diva !

Delusional
Incompetent
Vain
Adnauseam
Of course this all explains Palin's popularity going up.
oop's a book and maybe a fox news job/no movie yet
If I could make $150,000 per appearance for putting on lipstick and pontificating on "The Department of Law back there" I would quit and hit the speaking circuit, too.  Palin and Coulter - the mud wrestling book ends of the Republican base.

What a country!
Palinism:

I wouldn’t have all these law suites in the White House because the Department of Law would take care of them. They would make them all go away.
Palin resigned to prevent further waste of State funds to defend ethic charges.  That was a big waste of time and money.  Her family has incurred legal fees too.  She probably has to get out there and earn some money to pay those bills.  I believe in her.  She is for what I am for and against what I am against.  MSNBC clobber her on a daily basis.  MSNBC is always on a witch hunt of Palin and disgusting in their support of Obama.
Harry Truman said "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". Sarah obviously can't stand the heat and is getting out of the kitchen.

If she thinks the heat is seemingly never ending and getting hotter now she'll find out if she runs for national office again just how hot the kitchen can get. What she has "suffered" so far will seem like an ice box in comparrison.
Why should we think this person can manage our country when she can't even keep her daughter informed enough to not have a child out of marriage.  She is supposed to have raised a family that has morals that we find acceptable enough to want to have her run this country?

********************************************************************Ric, Shame on you.  Moral Mothers and Fathers sometimes have kids that do the wrong thing. Moral kids sometime do the wrong thing.  Palin and McCain would be head and shoulders above Obama and all his Czars (that answer only to him---does that sound Democratic???) and the person who pushes bills through with the info reaching the congress in the dead of night.  Think of all the wrong things Obama has done.....too many to list and he has just begun.  His apologizing for America's mistakes is beyond the pall.  We need a president that builds us up not one that tears us down.  2010 will not be a good year for democrats nor will 2012.

BTW where is the birth certificate??  Why can't we see the Occidental, Columbia and Harvard records??  Did he even go to those Universities???  He hasn't presented his resume'---fighting like mad to stop us from seeing the records we should be allowed to see.  What is he hiding?????
I don't care of Palin is an R or a D.  She does not possess the intelligence needed to tbe presenident.  Plain and simple.  I don't care about her views on social issues.  I care about her intellect, which is lacking. The fact that she even is thinking of running for president shows that she lacks the intellect needed.
It sounds like Palin should have consulted Mike Murphy before doing anything.  She would have been given a lot of good advice.  I do have agree that I haven't heard anything that she has done as governor of Alaska.  Can anyone answer that question?  I was looking for it since the campaign.
Mike Murphy, a republican not stuck on Stupid.  He realizes she is not ready, nor able to qualify as president for these united states.  While she may fit into the republican base as a good candidate, she does not fit the majority of americans idea of a candidate for president, let alone governor of a state.  With these tough times, and all the problems this country is facing because of what Bush did to us, the majority of americans want a well qualified, intelligent person as President, and thank god we have that person as our President.  I can only imagine the mess we would be in with McCain and Palin running this country, its a very, very, scarry thing to even think about.  I hear all this whining from republicans, but none of them have any new ideas.  For no good reason, they have been the party of NO, and have fought our President every step of the way, instead of working with him and making this country a better place and getting things done.  I think its interesting, when Bush was still in office, repubs and lou dobbs were saying what a do nothing congress we have, but no consideration was given to the fact that Bush veto'd everything they tried to pass, and now we actually have a working majority in congress who are productive and getting things done.  President Obama and congress have been very productive, and it is so nice to see the work they have been doing.  The hard work is yet to come with healthcare, DADT, and lots of other things that have been put off for years and years.  It is great to see things finally getting done, even if it is without the republicans, and bipartisanship.  The president has tried, but they have been fighting him every step of the way, because they cannot get their heads out of their a$$es and do what the majority of americans wanted.

Thank You President Obama and the Majority Congress.

For Sarah Palin so loves Alaska that she's sacrificing her valuable TITLE.

If she wants to run for President, she is going to need ALL of the next 2 years to learn how to respond to the question "You walked out on your Governor's job, how can you convince voters you won't walk out on the Presidency?"
Welcome back, Nita, but, unfortunately, we didn't miss you.
Umm, Peter Percival Patterson:

"Are you sure this Republican strategist isn't really a wolf in sheep's clothing?

We're not stupid, guys."
------------------------------------------------------
Maybe not stupid, but you didn't even bother to check Mike Murphy's creds...

He's a smart, moderate Republican (you know, the type that Rush has been demanding be purged from his ideologically "pure" Party.) Murphy was John McCain's chief strategist in 2000, when John McCain still possessed a sense of honor and integrity.

What Mike Murphy is trying to do is get the GOP back on track- which means away from the hard-right, and moving back toward center.  Unsurprisingly, Murphy has consistently viewed Sarah Palin as a poor choice for new GOP leadership; which is why so many Rushbots view him with suspicion.  But go ahead, and keep kicking out the people that have proven service to the GOP- see where your Party ends up...

How are we supposed to take your side seriously, when you don't even bother to acknowledge those people who have spent decades working FOR the Republican Party?  And I say this as someone who consistently voted (R) for many election cycles.
"We're not stupid, guys."

Are you sure? You sound like a Republican.

Only the most brain-dead of the right see her as a viable candidate.
and the person who pushes bills through with the info reaching the congress in the dead of night.  Think of all the wrong things Obama has done.....too many to list and he has just begun.  His apologizing for America's mistakes is beyond the pall.  We need a president that builds us up not one that tears us down.  2010 will not be a good year for democrats nor will 2012.

-------------------------------------
Do you even know how the Congress works?  Since you seem to be so into research, please provide for us the process by which the Congress reviews bills sent to it by the White House and also under what statute are they required to vote on a bill the next day that was sent to them at 11:30pm the night before?

No you don't have ???????????????????...you just have stupid comments.
Nobody gets this lady.

Is it too much for media talking heads to understand that it is her ideas and her philosophy on the proper function and role of government that ignites passion for her?
Sarah Palin, in her interview with Andrea Mitchell said that She knoew she would not win a second term as Govenor so... she bailed out now! She is such a sore loser. Sarah never had the "wherewithall" to hold down any of those offices she was elected to. She had help from the outside/inside. She made her staff sign in so many words... a vow of silence. She lacks knowledge and feels her "i'm gonna getcha" attitude would carry her all the way to the white house. She's always challenging & comparing herself to the President and why? Once McCain screwed up and gave her a shot, she wanted to even bypass him and become President. Yes, it is stated that she is anti-abortion but who/ what person would take an eight hour flight after their water breaks in the 9th month of pregnancy? In cases as such, there is a danger that the baby would not make it.... hum....  Anyway back to Sarah.... she is not suitable for that office anyway...
Anyone ever notice how she always use "we" when speaking about current and past offices held?
This is hilarious.  Palin getting stabs for stepping down while the under qualified President who has never run anything gets a pass for not being a Senator and still collecting a paycheck for the last two years...he should have stepped down and not stolen tax money.  What am I thinking, our money is his money.  Drones...
Ha, nice try.  Republicans that work for PMSNBC aren't real republicans, they are just lefty snobs posing as republicans.
I am appalled at the hate that appears here.  Not surprised but appalled.  You diminish anything Sarah Palin has done (which is to stand up for herself).  Tell me again how much EXPERIENCE Barack Obama had to become president?  Inform yourselves people.
I was going to vote for McCain but I specifically changed my mind to vote against Palin. If that isn't a smudge against her, I don't know what is.
I still fault John McCain for the "potential danger" he placed this country in during the Presidential election.  How could anyone proclaim: COUNTRY FIRST!?!?!?!@$# and put us at such risk! Palin was then and is now being paraded in front of us as an alternative to our "present government".  No matter how you perceive this government, how can an educated public endorse her lack of education and lack of knowledge of the issues.  She is an embarrassment here at home and would surely be an embarrassment on the world stage.  She is precipitous!  Her decisionmaking skills are suspect as she tends to shoot from the hip.  You all are preying on our vulnerabilities at a time when we are so weakened:  we have lost financial security in this unstable economic environment; we have lost our physical security because people are fighting and dying all over the world and you, Mr. Media Man, tell us they want to hurt us and can hurt us by hiding among us and sneaking up on us...We are all so threatened and you keep pulling the scab off everytime we get a glimmer of hope. All the in-fighting on Capitol Hill further weakens us because even people who "like" us don't know how to work together for everyone's benefit.  If our own representatives wish us harm and failure, why not the foreign terrorists?  It is so insane!  The fabric of our country - moms and dads and grandmas and grandpas and the babies - have no other agenda than to survive and prosper and smile every now and then...we are at your mercy and parading Sarah Palin in front of us as an alternative to our present government.... as a "reformer", "maverick",is preying on the fears of the less informed, scared and radical elements of our American family and I don't think that is fair!  You, the media and the government owe us more than that!  Holla back if you dare!
I love Sarah,I love to watch the liberals breathing their fire and brimstone against her. She stands for everything that liberals hate, AMERICA. Barack did not attend Wrights church for 20 yrs just for grins,he is a believer.
Wow!  Listen to all of you haters.  Palin is stupid like a fox.  The press has talked about her longer than this Michael Jackson thing.  She is using "gorilla marketing" as self promotion. She will make $millions. Keep hating her.  She'll be laughing all the way to the bank.
Just when we thought we were through with Palin....she's back again.  Actually what bothered me about Palin during the Presidential campaign was not just her lack of knowledge for the job, but the way she treated her children.  This sanctimonious air of being the ideal mom...the girl next door - Mom's apple pie!

I would never have dragged my children on such a grueling campaign tour. Perhaps a couple of appearances to introduce them as Obama did - that's it.  They needed to go to school and live as normal a routine as possible.  She paraded her family and put them in the lime light.  She thrived on it!  Then when negative press resulted...she recoiled and said it was unfair.  It just made no sense.
The biggest train wreck is in the Democrat party. Obama's approval rating is dropping like a rock and people are starting to learn that change meant nothing.
