NBC News has learned that Sen. Roland Burris will tomorrow, in fact, be announcing that he will not run for re-election in 2010, according an Illinois Democrat close to Burris.
Video: NBC’s Brian Williams reports on Burris' decision to not run for re-election. A senior adviser to Burris tells First Read that the senator will make a statement tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the South Loop Hotel in Chicago.
It is, of course, not surprising that Burris would decide not to run for re-election. In addition to his problems regarding the details of his appointment to the seat by ousted former Gov.
Rod Blagojevich, Burris has raised just $845 for the 2010 cycle. And he has more than $111,000 in debt.
Chicago Sun-Times gossip columnist Michael Sneed first reported the news.
