Admin. to review color-coded system

From NBC's Pete Williams
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano today will call for a review of the color-coded threat level system, which was created in the months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The system was intended to standardize warnings of increased terror threat. Though it got a fairly good workout at first, its use has tapered off in the past few years. One reason is that the overall level of awareness -- both among the public, government, and law enforcement -- is greater now than it was before the attacks.

The review is intended to address whether the system is still needed. And, if so, whether further refinements are in order.

I've always thought mauve would be a nice addition to the code.
It's not used now because it doesn't work as a scare tactic any longer.  People act like this is something other than what everyone knows it is.  It's absolutely ridiculous that it is being reviewed instead of being scrapped for inefficiency and lack of ability to do anything but spread fear.
Hopefully NOW they'll remove the color code... be SO AFRAID you'll sh*t yourself!

This WHOLE thing was a Republicant gimmick from the start! More tools of terror from the party of torture!

But how will this create more of those jobs that Obama promised?  How will it stimulate the economy?  I need a job NOW!
Was it ever really needed? Unless we need a boost in duck tape sales, I don't see the point. As far as a topic goes this seems very thin on substance.
The system needed to be simple enough for GWB to understand..."red means beware!!"

Now that we have someone using all of his falculties, I guess it is time to be more detailed.
Pete,,,the system was used to scare the public into thinking there was a real danger, and we where in a highten watch. The Bushies used it and the MSM is still buying this garbage. So getting rid of another Bush scam is the right move, and the fear mongers will whine about how the dems can't be trusted when it comes to National security.
That's nice. Real nice.

But, just where are the jobs?

Maybe Janet can hire a few people to rearrange the colors on the threat-level indicator.
If this doesn't bring up the image of Nero fiddling, I don't know what else would.
Could we get someone to look at the colors of the lines on all the roads. That color palette is just NOT working for me.
The system is lovely...lovely shades of color...my only complaint...the lack of more colors. Make it more colorful. Add colors like magenta, aubergine, and chartreuse.
Did I accidentally tune in to Fox & Friends this morning?  That so-called "interview" of Liz Cheney was more a 45-minute infomercial w/ the feckless Mika licking Liz' pumps.   Unbelievable.  And at the end, Mika said "You know, I really like the way we did it today."
You posit that public awareness of 'threat' is greater today than it was when the color-coded threat level system was enacted.I beg to differ.

I believe that the level of complacency in this country is now worse than it was on September 10, 2001, because Americans all believe that 'somebody' is 'taking care of it'.

I can't speak for government, including police departments and the TSA, but I sure don't see any awareness among the average American.  I spend a lot of time in the U.K., and their level of awareness, fed by years of IRA bombings,is far greater than ours.  Yet, they blame their own complacency for the 7-7-7 London bombings; therefore, they have redoubled their efforts at keeping alert, reporting suspicious packages, etc.

we're not talking about scaring people of boogeymen, but educating them about evil.  there is a difference.
Conservatives are leeches and heartless – you hide behind religion as well, you think ill of people that are not as evil as you.

We pay taxes like everyone else and your typical BS stereotyping wont change that fact, but only emphasizes your ignorance.

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA

You're going to have to get a job TDS. Uncle Sam isn't going to pay your way anymore. I know that's hard for you understand, but consider it tough love.
Don't discontinue it!  If you do, how will we know when to buy plastic sheeting and duct tape?
It is sad to see what President Obama is doing to the nation -- socialism is a fair description and those who object to the term need to consult some good history books.

More delusional thinking by a RepubliRAT! Just what do you call social security, medicare, VA benefits etc??

Seems to me they smell like the dreaded socialism - NO?

Educate yourself and then come back and play!
Regarding Mika Mouses dismal performance on Morning Joke this morning… I’d be careful there Mika Mouse if I were you…

A staple of Lizzard’s (Cheney) diet consists of small rodents… and that goes for you as well rabid rat!
I thought I was watching a Saturday Night Live skit when the homeland security dude came on with his moving to a 'high' level alert.  I think it moved from orange to red during the election between bush and Kerry.  What a joke!!!!!  and an insult to any intelligent person.
With Obama as president only one color is needed...

YELLOW

They aren't going to give you one ... so get off your butt and hit the pavement.
FR-- Thanks for answering my question. Given the fact that the Bush administration faked a great number of them...this would be very interesting to watch. I have a feeling that they may be suspended. Thanks, again.

_______________

Are you both under the impression that someone is going to come knock on your door and say "Hello, we're from the government, here is your job?"?

Has either of you contacted the legislature in your own state to inquire about the jobs being created under the stimulus?

Has either of you been applying for jobs either in the paper or online?

Has either of you contacted an employment agency, or even a temp agency?

Or do both of you just spend all your time online whining on a news site?
The color coded system brought to you by the duck tape administration was never really all that useful.  Remember we were told that we should go shopping after Sept 11, 2001?  That is were complacancy after that fatefull day began.  The former dunce in chief and his band of coharts had no idea how to get people in this country to the level of awareness in Europe.  Why because they were clueless as well.  The color code system was a hair brained idea brought by a hair brained administration that was hell bent on invading Iraq!  They also brought us fearmongering and if we did not go along with them we were branded as UNPATRIOTIC!  The former dunce in chief was and always will be the dunce that brought division to this country as well as shame!
"we're not talking about scaring people of boogeymen, but educating them about evil.  there is a difference. "

I have yet to hear anything educational come from this line of thinking. Do you really need a color coordinated system to educate yourself on terror threats. I think the Americans are aware of the knee jerk reactionary role the last Administration implemented. We are still paying for those mistakes.

Condescension doesn't make you look more intelligent. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about and should leave the adult conversations to the adults. If you'd like to make a point than make it. I'm sure there are a lot of people like yourself who have jobs they didn't earn and don't deserve. maybe you are a part of the corporate mantra that supports shipping jobs over seas because slave labor is cheaper than paying someone a liveable wage. The only welfare I see being handed out these days goes to the rich. They seem to get this for screwing up their companies but it doesn't stop them from coming to the taxpayers with both their hands out.
Rhetoric is useless and too many people are suffering because of the insufferable ignorance repeated again and again.
GROW UP!!

I'm sorry.  My post above ignored the facts and completely missed the point of every single post here.  Clearly this color code system is a fear tactic used to scare Americans into thinking there is a terror attack about to hit US soil.  This is used to persuade us that we should trust the Republicans on National Security.  Too bad this isn't accurate or correct.  Perhaps I should try reading first instead of just posting.
Keep the color code. It keeps things simple.
