Obama agenda: Orszag vs. Elmendorf?

"Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag accused Congressional Budget Office Director Doug Elmendorf of 'overstepping' in a Web post Saturday, escalating the battle between the Obama administration and Republicans over the White House’s conduct toward the CBO. The charge was leveled after Elmendorf posted a blog entry Saturday that suggested a new Obama proposal to create an independent board to reduce Medicare payments would save $2 billion over 10 years, a small sum compared to the overall cost overruns of the program." Orszag, a former CBO director, accused Elmendorf of playing into a stereotype that the CBO often overestimates cost and underestimates savings.

On Wednesday, Obama will participate in a town hall meeting on health care in Bristol, VA, a town familiar to him as he kicked off his general election campaign there in 2008. Writing in June of that year, Jonathan Martin of Politico wrote that a Bristol appearance was “a pragmatically strategic move,” as “Bristol is the sole media market in the vast southwest part of Virginia.”

The Obama administration has gone out of its way to not repeat the mistakes the Clinton administration made. But Ezra Klein points out one thing that Clinton’s effort got right: competition among health insurers. "A Washington Post-ABC News poll last month showed that 62 percent of Americans support the choice of a public insurance option. It's one of the most popular aspects of health-care reform. But if the public option would drive private insurers out of business and reduce consumer choice, the numbers flip, with 58 percent opposing it. What people support, in other words, is not public or private insurance, but choice in insurance. That, along with protection from escalating costs, is the inviolable principle of health-care reform."

The AP: "Senate postponement of work on health care until September gives interest groups on both sides an entire month to whip up supporters, and pushes off crucial votes on the overhaul effort until fall -- when people are likely to refocus on the issue."

Turning to foreign affairs… "Israel dug in its heels Monday in a disagreement with the United States over a potential military strike to thwart Iran's progress toward a possible nuclear weapon, as the visiting American defense chief urged patience,” the AP says.  “‘We clearly believe that no option should be removed from the table,' Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said pointedly, following discussions with U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates." Though the U.S. also continues to state that no options are off the table. The Obama administration has, however, stressed an increased diplomatic push with Iran.

The Boston Globe: "The Obama administration is poised to dramatically increase funding aimed at helping Iranian activists circumvent government controls on the Internet, according to Congressional aides, marking a new wave of US support for Web-based dissent at a time when the Iranian regime has clamped down on street protests. The funding, which is set to double from $15 million in 2009 to $30 million next year for Iran and other countries that block free speech on the Internet, puts the US government in an unlikely alliance with counterculture computer activists."

The Washington Post and ABC, there is a reliable, unbiased source of polling data. Would that be the same ABC News the shamelessly acted as a prime-time propaganda mouthpiece for Obama's health care "reform" proposals? No journalistic bias there. Just the facts.
I like that Peter Orzag is going after Elmendorf for laying out some rather unrealistic budget estimates regarding the health care reform bill.  Time to get rid of Elmendorf and find someone more honest for the CBO.

Looks like Wednesday will be a good day as President Obama does another townhall meeting.  Barack needs to take his plan to the people and rally then against the dopes of nope.

In Obama We Trust!

I think that I posted this on last week. I think that millions of other American's know what the CBO is doing. I don't want to hear that the CBO is none biased, BS, he is a person isn't he?
Our current president, who promised "transparency", secretly had CBO Director Elmendorf brought in to the White House last week for a "discussion" which translated means--he twisted his arm.  Actually, this is worse than ex-VP Cheney's supposed twisting of the CIA....at least the VP has legal access to the CIA.  The CBO director reports to Congress and NOT to the president.  Nonetheless, the one who promised "new politics" showed us once again he is ALL ABOUT politics by trying to inluence this director who is simply doing his job.

Mr. Elmendorf, we the people support you doing your job without bias or persuasion by anyone.  Don't let this president or any other political figure twist your arm.  We only want health care reform which adds up and works for America

Huh?  Incoherent as usual.
CBO looks at things one way while another expert may look at the same things a bit differently. CBO should be guide not gospel in this.
Obama and his staff have taken one major leaf out of the communist strategy book."When you tell a lie make it a big lie and keep repeating it over and over and over." In the health care reform matter the administration is telling many big lies.Big lie # 1) The reform bill currently under consideration is "deficit neutral". The vast majority of americans know this is pure BS and the administration is now attacking the CBO to deflect criticism of their plan. Big lie #2) Government option will bring competition to the health care industry. Once again the great majority of americans know that this also BS. Any company worth its salt yearly reviews all its insurance packages to insure competitive rates. Without these reviews a company could be spelling its financial ruin. Can anybody imagine a government apparatchuk actually doing any heavy lifting to save money for the government? They don't do it now so why would they suddenly change their behavior? No, government control of health care will result and it will be just as well run as AMTRAK, The USPO, our schools, registry of motor vehicles, public transportation, etc. Get the picture? Big lie #3) If you like your insurance coverage you can keep it. This is only partly true. Obama and the dems are facing resistance from their pals and supporters in the government and big private unions (think UAW)on losing their current health insurance for government coverage. Most of these unions have negotiated "birth to turf" "cadillac benefits" that you and I can only dream of but of course we are the ones that pay for these benefits. As we speak the dems are talking with union leaders on how their member benefits can be retained while we peons get screwed out of ours by being forced (not quite at gunpoint) to sign up whether we like it or not. Is it any wonder that Obama and the leftist dems want to push this turkey through quickly? The last thing they want is a review of this "mother of all screw jobs" to John Q Public that will bring it to a screeching halt. Blue Dog dems are standing in the way and lets hope they sink this HCR bill. If they don't their constituents need to vote them out next year.
Interesting take on the public "wanting an insurance choice" (rather than simply preferring the presence of a public option). I think there's more going on.

To most people, their health insurance carrier is nothing more than a company where you pay a monthly premium in the hope they'll grant permission to be treated and will pay for any medical bills you may incur.

Quite often, these companies either say "No!" or, after saying yes a few times, drop you from coverage.

In other words, they're really "health extortion" firms more than they are health insurance carriers.

Most people do not like them.

If all they'd have to do was (a) pay their monthly premium and (b) not have to worry about receiving and paying for health care, they would be very very happy.

This isn't about government bureaucracy or "socialized medicine" - it's about big business and frightened politicians hanging on for dear life jockeying for position.

This is the story you ought to be telling.
CBO DEALS OBAMACARE ANOTHER BLOW: 'HIGH PROBABILITY NO SAVINGS WILL BE REALIZED'...

The Democrats 'response" is to launch an attack on the CBO~

PATHETIC!

IT IS APPARENTLY TRUE THAT OBAMA ADMIN IS MUCH LIKE THE NIXON ADMIN WAS --- DESTROY THEIR ENEMIES.
