McCotter pushes Obama apology res.

Thaddeus McCotter, a Republican congressman of Michigan, will introduce a resolution in the House tonight asking President Obama to formally apologize to the Cambridge Police Department.

All this despite Obama's outreach to the police officer involved, Sgt. Jim Crowley, and the beer summit to take place this week with the president, Crowley and the arrested Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates.

According to an aide, McCotter announced his intent to offer a resolution on the issue Friday, so that President Obama would have the weekend to apologize. To this point the president has not yet offered an adequate apology, so McCotter will introduce the resolution this evening at 6:30 unless an acceptable apology comes from the White House in the next four hours.

McCotter Readies House Resolution Calling for Presidential Apology to Cambridge Police Sergeant

Washington, D.C. -- Unless President Obama apologizes for impugning the professional conduct of Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley, when Congress returns on Monday, U.S. Representative Thaddeus G. McCotter (R-MI) will introduce a House Resolution calling on President Obama to do so.

House Resolution

Whereas on July 16, 2009, Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley responded to a 911 call from a neighbor of Harvard University Professor Henry Louis (“Skip”) Gates, Jr. about a suspected break-in in progress at his residence, which had been broken into on a prior occasion;

Whereas on July 22, 2009, in responding to a question during a White House press conference President Barack Obama stated: “Skip Gates is a friend, so I may be a little biased here. I don’t know all of the facts involved in this local police response incident”; 

Whereas President Obama proceeded to state Sergeant Crowley “acted stupidly” for arresting Professor Gates on charges of disorderly conduct;

Whereas, as a former Constitutional Law Professor, President Obama well understands that all Americans are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and their actions should not be prejudged prior to being fully and fairly judged by an appropriate and objective authority after due process;

Whereas, President Obama’s nationally televised remarks may likely detrimentally influence the full and fair judgment by an appropriate and objective authority after due process regarding this local police response incident and, thereby, impair Sergeant Crowley’s legal and professional standing in relation to said incident; and

Whereas, President Obama appeared at a daily White House Press briefing on July 24, 2009 to address his denouncement of Sergeant Crowley and stated: “I could have calibrated those words differently” but “I continue to believe, based on what I have heard, that there was an overreaction in pulling Professor Gates out of his home to the station.”

Whereas, President Obama’s refusal to retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Sergeant Crowley and, instead, reiterate his accusation impugning Sergeant Crowley’s professional conduct in the performance of his duties;

Now therefore be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives--

Calls upon President Obama to retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley for having unfairly impugned and prejudged his professional conduct in this local police response incident.

Wow. Is there really nothing better he should be doing to represent his district?
If there's one thing Obama can do, that's retrack, revise previous statements, talk out both sides of his mouth at the same time and yes, apologize! This is nothing new for the Obamonator.
This is one dumb idea!! Do you think Nancy Pelosi will bring this to a vote?  Come on Domenico: Is this really news.  NOT. The legs ran out on this story...yesterday.  

Maybe something is happening in Iran? or Israel? or China? Lets look for a real story.
Drop it fellow Republicans!  He didn't offend you.  He offended Officer Crowley (and arguably all of the Cambridge PD).  He has since called Mr. Crowley and made amends - satisfied with the discussion, it is no longer our business!

"Stupidly" was a strong word, and maybe "erroneously" would have been better, but we need to look like the bigger people.
and these clowns let Bush cause the deaths of over 100,000 people and didnt even make him apologize.  Politics as usual.  Obama needs to ignore this or they will threaten to introduce bills like this the rest of his terms.

For how much congress has accomplished in 8 months? This might be the best legislation of the year.
Obama should not apologize.  Do we pay police to use their authority and power to protect us OR do we pay police to use their authority and power to abuse, mistreat and intimidate us???  This episode proves once again that we live in a "police state" where the police can do whatever they want.   Where are the civil liberttarians, where is the outrage that in America the police can enter YOU HOME andd arrest you on any trumped up charge they feel like.  The Constitution of the United States of America use it or lose it.
Mr. McCotter don't you have anything better to do?  These are grown men,capable of handling the situation on their own without your interference.  Waa waa,waa mommy MAKE him be nice to me!
Funny thing is the tapes that just came out totaly vindicate Robert Gates and Obama. You can't hear Gates yelling at all, and you only really hear him speaking in a normal voice at one point. Some "disturbing the peace"
Obama's response last Wednesday is an example of when "keeping it 'real' goes wrong".
I am no fan of Obama and think his race-baiting techniques are despicable but this resolution is a waste of time and resources.  McCotter needs to spend his efforts on stopping the Democrats ObamaCare.

Obama apologize? For his own actions? Surely you jest! Obama apologizes for the country, for America, for the USofA, not for himself. He flys around the world telling everyone who will listen what a mess America has made the world. Obama though doesn't have the dignity or the courage to apologize for his actions.

These are names worth highlighting. What I would like the Media to do is find out how much money these politicians received from health insurance companies. I would bet that it’s millions. If “any” of them have taken contributions from insurance companies, then they need to be exposed. I’ve said it several times before. I refuse to sugar coat a singel person in the Democratic party that swindels me.

I don’t give a damn who they are. This is wrong and they aren’t acting in the best interest of the people that elected them into office.

Health Care Reform is too important and they need to be exposed and bought up on ethics charges (if such a law exsist). Hell it’s hard to know what kind of protection the American taxpayers have now. If they have taken money from special interest groups, then they should be made to fork it up.

The following is from the U.S. Citizenship and Naturalization Form Services website http://www.uscitizenship.info.  This is from their FAQ page regarding citizenship and birth.

<<<Generally, people are born U.S. citizens if they are born in the United States or if they are born to U.S. citizens:

(1) By being born in the United States
If you were born in the United States (including, in most cases, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands), you are an American citizen at birth (unless you were born to a foreign diplomat). Your birth certificate is proof of your citizenship.

(2) Through birth abroad to TWO United States citizens
In most cases, you are a U.S. citizen if ALL of the following are true:

·        Both your parents were U.S. citizens when you were born; and

·        At least one of your parents lived in the United States at some point in their life.


(3) Through birth abroad to ONE United States citizen
In most cases, you are a U.S. citizen if ALL of the following are true:

·        One of your parents was a U.S. citizen when you were born;

·        Your citizen parent lived at least 5 years in the United States before you were born; and

·        At least 2 of these 5 years in the United States were after your citizen parent's 14th birthday.>>>

What all of this means is that physical birth location is irrelevant.  One is a natural born citizen by virtue of parentage, not location.  The gist if this is by virtue of his parentage, specifically his mother being a US citizen at the time of his birth, Barack Obama is a natural born citizen of the US regardless of where he was physically born.  So even if you were to find a Kenyan birth certificate stating that Obama was actually born there, it would mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Of course you righties will argue the semantics of “natural born”, whether or not it means “physically born on American soil.”  However the constitution makes no such distinction.  Specifically, it states "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."  Nothing more.  In fact, the constitution does not even define "natural born", just who qualifies as a citizen.  And any lawyer can take the above information and argue that Obama is a natural born United States citizen despite where he was physically born, which probably explains why the US Supreme Court refused without comment to even hear the case that was brought last year regarding his eligibility.  It’s the argument John McCain (who was born in Panama) used regarding his citizenship and eligibility to be the Republican nominee for POTUS (both of his parents were US citizens).  The bottom line is that Barack Hussein Obama is the President of the United States, and once again, righties, you got nothing.  DEAL WITH IT!

Despite his state’s unemployment rate topping 15 percent, McCotter’s highest priority right now isn’t the economy. The Michigan Republican announced he will introduce a bill calling on all Republicans to admit that they are really, really dumb and outdated.
I guess it's too late for Bush to apologize to all of our dead soldiers for, you know, lying.
I can see both sides of the issue. Certainly Professor Gates and Officer Crowley had an event occur between the two of them and while both were within their rights, both also could have done something differently to avoid the conflict that occurred. President Obama too had his moment of non-clarity, that being commenting on something he knew little about. Emotions played a big part in President Obama's response to the question at his news conference, Professor Gates wis a personal friend, and there is a past history of racism between African Americans and police officers. President Obama's words though should have been more measured.

Hopefully all have learned from the experience. Now it is time to move on.

This is a case of having the President who is Black submit to being humbled my apologizing to a white man. He already stated he made a mistake, what this is the next step to make sure the "uppidty" black president knows his place amongst white men? Please he should tell this congressman to shove it!

Obama's remarks were racist in nature if you think about it and that is not acceptable. Racism works both ways unlike many believe. There has always been and continues to be a double standard. You came away thinking he was implying white officers were stupid. He is a racist at heart in denial.

Will Bush and Cheney apologize to the American people for deceiving them into going into an unjust war, going under false pretenses? Will Cheney apologize for having his right-hand man, Libby cover up his crime? Will Bush and Cheney and everyone involved in tortures apologize to the nation? Will Bush and Cheney apologize for having just one agenda for the eight years they were in office - IRAQ? Will Bush and Cheney apologize for causing the financial turmoil because they were beholden to their rich comrades in Wall Street? Will they, will they?
This guy only wants to embarrass the President and all this does is further escalate the matter.  The President has tried to tone down the rhetoric and regrets the role he played. Enough is enough. Republican foolishness! This guy probably believes the President is not a citizen of the United States.
Stop playing politics McCotter -- if Sgt. Crowley is willing to have a beer with Gates & the President, that should be it. That should settle the matter.

The fact that you feel you have to stick your nose in the middle of this makes it obvious it's for your own self-serving, totally political purposes.

I don't think the President of the United States of America should apologize for expressing his honest opinion...Our former President Bush, not only refuse to apologize to African-Americans for the many harsh years of ill treatment at the hands of his ancestors and those who to this day continue to deny us our proper benefits of equal citizens of the U.S.A.

Secondly, it is no secret that African-American Men and Law Enforcement has always been a problem and  will be until hopefully until a solution may arise from  this incidentthat  will lend to a resolution that will stop this type of problem in the near future.

Finally, if we respect our President and stop trying to undermine his authority, we can rise above the evils of racism and prejudice!

FOR GODS SAKE GET OVER IT. WHAT WOULD YOU DO . THE PRESIDENT HAS ACTED APPROPRIATELY AND ALL INVOLVED PARTIES HAVE COME TOGETHER. MAYBE THEY COULD ENTER A RESOLUTION TO HAVE BUSH AND CHENY APOLOGIZE FOR THE WAR IN IRAQ, LETS GET REAL.
While I agree that the President should have been more cautious and responsible with his response.  I think McCotter is really pushing the envelope. While he's at it why doesn't he sponser a resolution for Republicans to apologize to the American People for offering no real solutions to the problems of today.
Here we go again!  It seems our elected representative can vote on a useless piece of legislation at night and yet when it comes to passing legislation that will help the people of this country with their health care they don't have the time.  They should be voting for the health care plan instead of this useless piece of crap they call legislation.  Once again we are seeing the rhetoric instead of action to solve the problems most pressing to our nation and its people.
