First thoughts: Drudge vs. Obama

*** Drudge vs. Obama: We know we don’t have to remind our friends in the media and those who follow American politics this simple fact: Matt Drudge isn’t a fan of Obama. But his site’s coverage of Obama has become even more negative as the president’s poll numbers have declined. The latest example came yesterday, when Drudge hyped a sliced-up video (via conservative friend Andrew Breitbart) that savaged Obama on health care. The video purportedly showed Obama advocating the elimination of private health insurance, although the full transcript of that March 2007 event suggested no such thing. While the Obama administration has been hesitant to directly push back against Drudge, it made an exception yesterday with its own Web video on health care, starring its health-care spox, Linda Douglas. By the way, for those who love to complain about a liberal media, explain Drudge and its impact…

Video: NBC’s Savannah Guthrie reports on Former President Bill Clinton's surprise trip to North Korea.

*** The roving ambassador: The breaking news overnight was that Bill Clinton has landed in North Korea to help release the two American journalists held there. As the Washington Post writes, “Former president Bill Clinton landed in North Korea on Tuesday on an unannounced mission to negotiate the release of two American journalists, marking his first diplomatic mission abroad for the Obama administration in a case that has deeply concerned his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs issued this statement: "While this solely private mission to secure the release of two Americans is on the ground, we will have no comment. We do not want to jeopardize the success of former President Clinton's mission." What to watch for: Bill isn't shy, so does that mean he'll try a little freelance diplomacy? Or has he been authorized to freelance? The diplomatic palace intrigue, especially considering how the North Koreans love to pomp and circumstance up visiting dignitaries, will keep Clintonologists busy for weeks.

Video: U.S. Sec. of Transportation Ray LaHood joins Hardball’s Chris Matthews to explain why the Obama administration’s “Cash for Clunkers” program’s unexpected success is evidence that additional funding should be provided to keep the program alive.

*** A slam clunk? Majority Leader Harry Reid could try to pass the legislation pumping an additional $2 billion into the “cash for clunkers” program as soon as today, NBC’s Ken Strickland reports. But Republicans senators are in the driver's seat over whether the program gets the money it needs to continue. An objection from a single member, Strick adds, could force Reid to delay the Senate’s August recess, or force the “clunkers” vote into September. GOP Sen. Jim DeMint says he hasn't decided if he'll delay action, but his tone yesterday suggested otherwise. DeMint described the program as "mass chaos" after hearing complaints from home state car dealers. Other Republicans are against it ideologically; they consider it another bailout where the government gets to pick the winners and losers. GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham was on TODAY saying he supports the program. Obama will discuss “clunkers” and health care when he lunches with all Democratic senators later today -- which just happens to be his 48th birthday. Also at today's lunch, will conservative Dems like Ben Nelson complain to the president about the pressure they’re receiving from the left on health care?

*** Primary colors: Just how focused is John McCain

on the primary challenge he’s expected to get next year from Minuteman founder Chris Simcox? Enough, it seems, that he voted against Kathleen Sebelius back in April (when Republicans were criticizing her record on abortion). And yesterday, he announced his intention to vote against Sonia Sotomayor (arguing that she’s a judicial activist). McCain now joins veteran GOP senators Orrin Hatch and Chuck Grassley who are voting against their first Supreme Court nominee, ever. All three had voted to confirm Breyer and Ginsburg. So why the change? There are a number of reasons, including that Obama and Clinton politicized Roberts and Alito, that the NRA decided to score the Sotomayor vote, and that the GOP primary electorate -- in, say, Arizona -- may treat Sotomayor as a litmus test. Still, McCain’s no votes on Sebelius and Sotomayor appear to be head-scratchers to many in Washington, since he preaches bipartisanship and the idea of giving deference to a president.

*** Then and now: Speaking of, here’s a line from a speech McCain delivered last year, per NBC’s Chris Donovan: “When President Bill Clinton nominated Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsberg to serve on the high court, I voted for their confirmation, as did all but a few of my fellow Republicans. Why? For the simple reason that the nominees were qualified, and it would have been petty, and partisan, and disingenuous to insist otherwise. Those nominees represented the considered judgment of the president of the United States. And under our Constitution, it is the president's call to make… It is part of the discipline of democracy to respect the roles and responsibilities of each branch of government, and, above all, to respect the verdicts of elections and judgment of the people. Had we forgotten this in the Senate, we would have been guilty of the very thing that many federal judges do when they overreach, and usurp power, and betray their trust.”

*** PhRMA and Obama: There has been very little reporting on what, exactly, various stakeholders have gotten in return for cutting health-care deals with the White House. Today, the L.A. Times delves into the deal the White House cut with PHRMA and its head, former Dem/GOP Rep. Billy Tauzin. The deal, apparently: "Tauzin said he had not only received the White House pledge to forswear Medicare drug price bargaining, but also a separate promise not to pursue another proposal Obama supported during the campaign: importing cheaper drugs from Canada or Europe. Both proposals could cost the industry billions, undermine its ability to develop new cures and, in the case of imports, possibly compromise safety, industry officials contend."  Question: Would candidate Obama, circa 2008, attack a President Obama for taking off the table the Canada drug import issue?

*** Craig in trouble? Is White House Counsel Greg Craig’s job in jeopardy? That’s what the Wall Street Journal says. (Note that Craig represented Bill Clinton during the impeachment proceedings, but was a key foreign policy aide to Obama during the presidential campaign.) “Obama administration officials are holding discussions that could result in White House counsel Gregory Craig leaving his post, following a rocky tenure, people familiar with the matter said.” However, the article doesn't really offer a reason why he would be ushered out, the White House is pushing back HARD on this rumor, and the piece really doesn’t seem to characterize its sourcing.

*** Specter vs. Sestak: Joe Sestak will make his primary challenge against Sen. Arlen Specter official today, setting up one of the best primary races for next year’s midterms. Sestak already kicked things off at 8:30 am ET in Folsom, PA. He then holds an events in Pittsburgh (at 1:30 pm) and Johnston (5:00 pm), and he will also appear on MSNBC’s “Hardball.”

*** The more things change, the more they stay the same…: One of us yesterday penned a piece about how Obama, who campaigned on changing the ways of Washington, has continued one its oldest traditions: rewarding top fundraisers with plum overseas posts. That this is still happening -- even after a campaign in which Barack Obama raised so much money from small donors -- suggests just how dominant money (and the people who can raise it) is in American politics. “As long as there have been big campaign contributions, big fundraisers have gotten plum assignments,” said Georgetown professor Clyde Wilcox, who studies campaign finance. He added, “Even during the Lincoln presidency, people who marshaled together political machines needed to be accommodated… Rewarding your political supporters is as old as the republic."

*** Do we need these posts anymore? Of course, this begs the question: Do these positions matter anymore? Should the American taxpayer pay for pricey residences in far-off lands that are far from danger zones? Most foreign policy observers say that, yes, they do matter, because removing these posts would reduce access to key leaders and be seen as a “slap in the face” to other countries. What’s more, you never know when -- or where -- a crisis could happen. Still, they say, they wish the practice would change.

*** 2009 watch: As a new poll (Monmouth University/Gannett) shows Chris Christie with a 14-point lead in the race for New Jersey governor, the Corzine campaign has launched a TV ad featuring Obama from his campaign stop last month. (Hat tip: Cillizza.)

Happy Birthday Mr. President… Happy Birthday to you!

Question for all the right wing whack jobs this morning?  What’s up with these belligerent ‘tea baggers & birthers’ hijacking the town hall meetings on HCR?

I’m so impressed (NOT) with the Grand Opposition Party and their same OLD policy of violence & vigilantism!  It’s the great GEENOPEE way! Keep your base stuck on stupid!

Could it be you’re AFRAID that once the truth comes out… your ilk will look like even BIGGER idiots than you already do?

All I can say is NEVER in my lifetime have I witnessed a more PATHETIC bunch of sore losers!  It’s gotta be noon somewhere… time to start pounding your hatoraid!

Oh happy days… I was pleasantly surprised to see my ‘guy’ Larry O’ filling in on the Ed Show last night! He was splendid as usual… One of these days Jeff Zucker’s going to wake the hell up and give him his own show…

Pass HCR NOW  CO-OP = COPOUT!
What Is Happening to this Country?

Organized hooligans and thugs are intimidating citizens and legislators at town hall meetings.  Town Hall meetings used to be a place where citizens could engage in the freedom of speech by respectfully expressing their ideas.  Now corporate owned conservatives are bussed in to harass and shout down local citizens.  Town halls will soon be a thing of the past—like neighborhood grocery stores.

So, what’s a body to do? (Southern Indiana talk)  1. Keep the faith and don’t give in to the brown shirts.  2) Believe in the power of education.  3) Community organization in small groups.  4) With the power of data, keep pressure on our Senators and Representatives.

A senator owned by the healthcare industry—talking to you Senator Baucus!!

Anita:  I believe you have been tracking how much money certain Senators and Reps have received from the healthcare/insurance industry.  I am interested in knowing how much money Senator Evan Bayh and Rep. Brad Ellsworth has received. Can you give the website so we all can see what our Congressmen and women are getting?

Sunlight and education will expose dirty deeds and there will be push back that will harm conservatives.  I can’t imagine moderate Republicans being proud of their party as conservatives engage in guerrilla tactics and intimidation.  The way I see it, if we want healthcare with a public option, we will have to work for it, like we did in the election.

BTW, Happy Birthday Mr. President. Your gift of a healthcare bill will be belated, but it will come.
Old New York - An American Tragedy

I'm reading at the moment a book entitled "Old New York" with 4 short stories written by Edith Wharton. The differences between her New York and the New York I love to wander is astounding. Keith began his Special Comments last night by mentioning the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, which claimed the lives of 146 young immigrant workers, who had jumped to their deaths in the Washington Square area of NYC in 1911. If any of you have a moment, please go and read about this tragedy. But more specifically, read about the one young lady who was never identified. Read about her funeral in NYC when the entire city came out to pay respects to her in the pouring rain. And then read about Governor Al Smith and how he enacted fire safety laws so that an incident such as this would never ever happen again.

I came across this story many many years ago and I never forgot it. It was this incident which made me aware of the history of the lower east side.

This Labor Day I will be in NYC to spend 2 whole days on my own, walking the streets of lower Manhattan, something I have always wanted to do. I found the most lovely hotel in Washington Sq. and can't wait to go on all the different walking tours NYC has to offer. And once again I will be sent back to a time when we as a nation were fortunate enough to have elected officials such as Governor Al Smith, a man who understood his role in government, his only role in government - to use his power any way he could to enact laws to make a better, safer world for American citizens.

But as Keith said, whatever safety laws Gov. Smith enacted were much too late for these young girls. No one was looking out for them when this fire happened. I see the same thing happening all over again in Congress. We can't come up with enough Congress members to care about tragedies that are happening in families all across this nation because of lousy or no health care coverage. We have the right president. What we need is members of Congress to sit down and figure out WHY they were elected into office. And while they figure it out, more children will go without proper health care. In the year 2009.

I have often wondered why I feel so drawn to the lower east side. I'm getting the answer as I watch and listen to the health care debate. We have politicians today with no guts and no character. They will continue to stall and lie at the expense of a child's health, or a parent’s health. All because of a few bucks. And the hope for a more powerful future, simply by denying health care reform, just as they denied stimulus money for crippling cities all over the country. This is the government we have. A government who will never have to worry about their child's health care. A government who knows nothing about a day's work, but know quite a bit about getting on tv. A government so unlike those immigrants - our Congress members' ancestors - who all those years ago, built this country - for us.

And today we have a government who, at this very critical moment, is stalling, just like they did back in Old New York. And they will continue with all the rhetoric they can muster, to try and convince those who dislike President Obama that reform is bad. And they will have willing participants in the media who will spin their talking points on air for them without a thought as to the consequences. The bottom line is simple- we don't have enough members in Congress to care enough. Their priorities lie elsewhere. Yet we the people continue to pay them. Democrats and Republicans. That is the tragedy here.

President Obama and Senators Kennedy & Sanders - we'll get there. On this, we progressives are one. The internets I realize have become a wonderful community for people who want to help this Administration make a difference. It’s where we get our inspiration and become one on this critical issue. We’re going to do this.

Happy Birther Day Barack Hussein Obama!
First Read, when are you going to get it through your heads!

MATT DRUDGE IS NOT A JOURNALIST!

He's nothing than more than a hack with an opinion, and a poorly designed website to blast his drivel to the world.

You do a disservice to yourselves and all the MSM by giving air/print time to fools like Drudge who think that just because they wear a fedora, they're a crack journalist.
Drudge easily sliced and diced

http://pleasecutthecrap.typepad.com/

It's amazing the out and out misrepresentations of this bill.  The public option is set up to run like an insurance company.  Nothing more....

No mandates, no quotas, no B.S., and no profit on peoples suffering.

PASS A SINGLE PAYER OPTION NOW
Obama's plan for Seniors Health Care?  Just another 'Shovel Ready' project of his.
I guess the real question for the media is how many lies does Drudge have to tell before he is no longer quoted as a "reliable source"?

There was a time when one was enough to discredit you . . . oh well . . .

Is it about accuracy or sensationalism?

Oh, now your going after the mean and nasty old Drudge. Is Mr. Drudge being mean to your little president? Poor things. Guess you can add Drudge to your list of enemies, just like the health insurance companies.
First Read --> The breaking news overnight was that Bill Clinton has landed in North Korea to help release the two American journalists held there.

When the two women journalists found out Bill Clinton had come to get them, they said they'd take their chances by staying with the North Koreans.
explain Drudge and its impact…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are some things that are simply unexplainable and Drudge is one of those things…
The impact is that he’s fear & hate mongering to the VERY people that eat that stuff up!
Could that be part of the reason it’s being reported that the President is receiving 5 death threats a DAY?
Things that make you go Hmmm?
Oh & Drudge is as much of a 'journalist' as Mika Mouse! Entertainer yes... journalist...NO
"So what do you think the truth is? Any and all Democratic plans do not reduce health costs, ration care, and are not universal in coverage."
-----------------
The status quo does not reduce health costs, allows insurance companies to charge whatever they want, and deny coverage for whatever they want (which last time I checked was called "rationing"), and is not universal in coverage.
Under the current system, if your insurance company decides not to pay, and you don't have thousands of dollars, you go bankrupt and die.
So just because there is no PERFECT plan doesn't mean that it isn't a whole hell of alot better than what we have now.
You wrote:
" To fund HCR, taxes will need to be significantly raised on most if not all Americans."
--------------------------------
Do you consider the interest on the huge deficits that President Bush incurred a tax?
How about health insurance premiums going up 10% a year when wages are stagnant?
What about the increase in credit card rates and fees?
I find it so interesting that everyone gets all hyper about the word "tax", but never say a word about all the SKY HIGH FEES the American people are forced to pay annualy on the whim of corporate fat cats who make millions.
IF a higher tax is required (and nobody knows if it will be since we still don't have a final bill) to STABILIZE health insurance costs and INCREASE service provided, that will be a MUCH BETTER DEAL for the American people, no?
=====================================
You wrote:
"The quality of care will be diminished with all the proposals the Democrats have on the table. "
Why is that? Name ONE, FACT BASED way that quality will be diminished.
How will a small segment of the population being able to buy affordable insurance that is currently NOT AVAILABLE do anything to harm the current system?
Barney Frank has said his goal is a single payer health care system, There have been enough rumblings out of Congress that show that the liberals there are for a single payer system. The Obama administration is floating that the public option for health care will put it on a "glide-slope" to single payer. You don't really need to have to make Drudge a bogeyman about Obama wanting a single-payer system. Obama and the Democrats have sent the message of single-payer out loud and clear.
Even if Bill Clinton secures the release of the folks being held in N Korea, the right wing whackos will still only be able to sputter "BUT- he GOT SOME"!
(in much the same way as they remind everyone of Mary Jo Kopekne and Ted Kennedy whenever his name comes up, even though it is ancient history by now.....)
Very good day, Mr. Olbermann is back. Way to sock it to the nasty Senate/Congressmen and women holding up healthcare reform.
In my lifetime, I have never seen an ex-republican president or any republican for that matter go overseas and nagotiate the release of U.S. prisoners, (apologies if I'm wrong), but way to go ex Pres. Clinton!
Happy Birthday Mr. President!
Today is our CIC 48th birthday and I wish him a happy birthday and many more to come.
Countdown--Keith Olbermann is back and boy did he come back kicking ass. His show last night was absolute great! Echoed my sentiments regarding the “Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans” that are taking money from the very people that are robbing us blind and committing murder daily; the insurance companies.
The list and pictures of the “most wanted criminals” included faces and finances that were absolutely ridiculous. These people are as Keith so eloquently described them as “Dogs”; don’t even deserve to be called Democrats.
The republicans are the obstructionist, peddling arsenic and the “Dogs” are procrastinating and holding up progress, by lying and planting doom and woe in the Media, for them to feed the public BS, which causes “the public” to become skeptical of the President’s agenda to reform this country and get our economy back on its feet...
Once skepticism comes from the public, straw polls are conducted by print media’s that were strongly in opposition to the President during the campaign, have a nerve to conduct polls and…and I may add, pass that information to every cable and main stream media outlet in America. Perhaps there will be some that question my logic, but one thing for sure, it’s common logic and many are out here that think as I think.
Our nation is in perilous times and even though we are finally seeing some light flickering at the end of the tunnel, we still have a long way to go. The 2.6 million plus jobs that were lost have to be replaced and consumer confidence restored, will take time and work to accomplish. There should be concentrated efforts from both parties to accomplish this task, but the party responsible, refuse to take ownership or offer solutions. They prefer continuing to put “salt” in the cake, by playing the cards from the bottom of the deck…the Dogs…
Health Care Reform will restore our economy and that’s what the prostitutes in the Senate and House don’t want to happen because they’ve accepted bribes from people that are stealing from us. Thanks again Keith for calling them out and reminding them that they work for us and not the companies that want to continue to rob us.
Politicians, you will do well to heed the comments of Keith Olbermann as we’ve spoken them over and over again…if you continue to block our progress and well being…you won’t have a damn job next election and “Birther’s and Deather’s sit your sick nationally embarrassing asses down. You people are an embarrassment to this Nation.
First Read…what happened yesterday afternoon? Feisty, I found the Palin story. I have a feeling that she will be leaving Alaska for the lower 48…without Todd.
HCR NOW!!!  No Cheesy CO-OP!!!
Keith's Special Comment was off the chain last night!  The hypocrisy of these so-called lawmakers is just nauseating.
Well, the Obama Trauma is still at work trying to define what a "green job" is. The whole administration is at a loss for words. And they want to put millions and millions into a plan they can't define.
Typical Obama B.S.
So let me get this straight . . .
Someone who donates to the President's campaign and gets appointed ambassador to Somalia is an example of "just how dominant money (and the people who can raise it) is in American politics"
but
Lobbyists staging phony protests, sending out forged letters, creating fake advocacy groups using phony statistics, top loading the "media" with phony pundits, and paying off Congress people to sabatage health care reform is just part of the process?
You have got to be f*(&ing kidding me, right?
Only an idiot would listen to what the Sludge Report has to say, he's gutter journalism at it's worst.  Come on First Read crew you talk about what Sludge has to say yet you don't bother to mention what Jon Stewart, Bill Maher or Stephen Colbert has to say?  You didn't watch last night's Daily Show on Jon's expose of fox and freaks and Idiot Steve Doucey's Crank Cycle?  You can't bother to mention how Idiot Doucey e-mailed himself and then said that if Obama can't run the cash for clunkers program he can't run health care and then show how some clueless fox and freaks zombie stood up in that townhall of Arlen Specter and Kathleen Sebelius and regurgitated the very same question that ofcourse Idiot Doucey then covered on his show of self serving lies.  Come on First Read you can do better than regurgitating the gutter slime of the Sludge Report, though I do admit that it does give us Liberals ammo for trashing Sludge so there is some silver lining in the story.  However get smart and start looking at what the Liberal comedians are pointing out as they have excellent research and writing staffs that point out things that the mainstream media fail to.  Please give Liberal comedians equal time if you're going to quote repugnant one comedians.
In Liberal Comedians We Trust!
So liberals, do like that the town hall meetings are showing the anger of the People towards ObamaCare? Spector took a beating yesterday. Other pols like Doggart are getting the same treatment. The People don't like ObamaCare, and they don't like liberals reaching into their pockets to steal their money every moment of the day.
Obama and Pelosi sent their little congresscritters out across the land to preach the gospel of ObamaCare, but the People aren't buying the lies anymore. It will be real interesting to see congreess go back in session in month. All the Democrats will ask "Health Care bill? What Health Care bill?"
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. PRESIDENT!
Thank you for raising the level of dialogue in Washington D.C. to the point where we can listen to misinformation from the media about health care reform instead of about flag pins.
:)
Nashville_fan: The status quo does not reduce health costs, allows insurance companies to charge whatever they want, and deny coverage for whatever they want (which last time I checked was called "rationing"), and is not universal in coverage.
The status quo does not spend $1+ trillion additional dollars.
Let's hope Bill Clinton does not do any Obama-style apolgizing for American sins.  PS--someone tell Chuck Todd that middle-class taxes are inevitable and that the weekend comments about it were "bombshells" -- stop covering for OBAMA Chuck.
The O-Men, Olbermann and O'Donnell, are the greatest myth busters and lie debunkers of all times!
Cue the Teabaggers, Birthers and Deathers.....keep the light on them all......
Make them accountable for their fringe, mob mentality!
Law enforcement at all levels has their work to do!
That crap that happened in Austin is so embarrasing for all Texans with connected brain cells!
------------------------------------------------------
Ron, where do you get the idea that 'corporate owned conservatives' are bussed in?  I watched the video of that Specter town hall, it sure looked like a bunch of regular citizens to me.   Could you open your mind to consider that possibly, just possibly, real citizens are energized at the thought of more spending-particularly when their senator claims it's too hard to read the bills he's voting on?
(in much the same way as they remind everyone of Mary Jo Kopekne and Ted Kennedy whenever his name comes up, even though it is ancient history by now.....)
Yes, I'm sure the Kopechne family brushes it away and doesn't give it a second thought, since after all, it's ancient history.
Organized hooligans and thugs are intimidating citizens and legislators at town hall meetings. Ron Indiana (Sent Tuesday, August 04, 2009 9:19 AM)
Are you referring to the New Black Panthers that intimidated voters at a polling place, the ones where Obama had Holder drop the charges? Those thugs?
Wait a minute - how can you claim it's a sliced up video?  How does one verify that?
Cash for Clunkers is exactly how Obama and the government will run health care reform. When you give something away, people are more then happy to accept it. And that's just what Cash for Clunkers has become, just another massive giveaway program.
And now Obama wants the government to run "free" health care? Think the hospitals won't be filled with people wanting a doctor to look at their hang-nail? It is any wonder sane people realize that ObamaCare is as stupid as an idea that has ever came out of Washington DC?
The ignorant/mod mentally are at full strenght again doing the bidding for the lying GOP/CORPORATE MAFIA. Just wait unitl these morons who are yelling the most at these town hall meetings against universal hlth care have emergency/medical tx i.e., stroke and will cover only a 1/3 of the bill w/ the bogus claim that their was no prior approval. I work as a Utilization reviewer which manages the pt's care by trying to convince these greedy insurance companies to cover the pt's care. Who do you think ends up getting shafted. So keep disrupting, yelling and sabotaging what would be in insurer's best interest by doing and playing into the hands of the lobby's, the druggy Limbaugh's wannabe's (Drudge) AND deny a right that every American should have like EVERY INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. So let's not get it done for another generation when the majority of baby boomers will have retired so we can once and for all live in a wonderful oligarchy that the ignorant masses help give them on a silver platter. What part of Change in 2008 did you morons not get. The bigots (birthers) and GOP will be the only winners if we do not pass UHC NOW!
Some clever paragraph headers this morning First Read crew, though I think you meant roving instead of toving.
The Madame of Malpractice, Whorely Taitz, is at it again as she has revealed her new fraudulent copy of Preisdent Obama's birth certificate.  I mean how ignorant is this illegal alien as she got so many things wrong like which country Mombasa was in when Obama was born or that Kenya wasn't a Republic until after the false date of her fraudulent document.  I don't know why Barack doesn't sue her for slander and libel.  Before we show her his legal Hawaiian birth certificate she needs to show us her legal citizenship papers.  I think that we should deport this Wicked Witch of Tort back to Vulgaria where she belongs!
I look forward to the repugnant ones making fools of themselves this week as their white supremacist Senators make a big stink about Sotomayor's confirmation.  McNasty is proving that he's just an angry old white man who's still sore at losing last fall to a black man and now he's taking it out on a wise Latina woman.  People of color beware the party of white supremacists before they try to make White the official skin color of America.  Can't wait to see the backlash in the Hispanic community and hopefully La Raza will razz the heck out of the dopes of nope come next election.
Just Say Yes to Sotomayor!
Let's see, Geithner (tax cheat) insinuated that people making well under $250,000 would wind up being taxed to pay for the tremendous deficit in income needed for the economy and yesterday WH spokesman Gibbs said "no way."
We all know that Obie does not have any type of grasp on our economy, our standing in the world, global warming (which is a sham), and how much money he has currently in his own pocket. We were better off under GWB. Obie is an insult to American intelligence, a political aberation who's numbers are falling faster than any president before him, including Carter. He's outspent all presidents combined by billions. He is out of control and has no idea what to do next. ALL of his cabinet choices are cheats or thugs, in one form or another, and their lack of character reflect strongly on Obie's "I don't give a damn" attitude.
It is time to take America back.
MATT DRUDGE IS NOT A JOURNALIST!
Joe - STL (Sent Tuesday, August 04, 2009 9:21 AM)
--------------------------------------------------
Neither are Olbermann, Matthews and Rather.
Wait a minute - how can you claim it's a sliced up video?  How does one verify that?
Slice this
Obama has a beard 42 seconds into the video, then at 58 seconds, the beard is gone. The clock on the wall behind him also goes from analog, to digital, and back to analog several times during the video.
“Wow, a letter from a right wing nut job was published in the Washington Post! I guess you think that proves that righties are correct in their assessment that President Obama is a 100% failure.”
Chris - IL (Sent Monday, August 03, 2009 11:24 AM)
===============
Ummm, it was an EDITORIAL in the Post, not a letter.  So now that you know the Cash for Clunkers program was trashed by a liberal establishment icon like the Washington Post, would you care to revise your comment?
Ken Strickland writes: "The remaining hurdle appears to be on the Republican side of the aisle where some feel the program is just another government bailout."
------------------------------
Why is it that alleged "journalists" can't write an objective article and have to sneak in biases like in the above sentence? Ken Strickland does not know what the Republicans "feel." He only knows what they SAY. If the Republicans SAY they feel it's just another government bailout, then that's an objective fact. What Strickland is doing is worse than the usual stenography. He's "framing the issue" for the Republicans.
My opinion is that that what Republicans really feel is FEAR -- fear that Cash for Clunkers program and the Obama's other economic recovery measures may be helping to revive the economy, just as Alan Greenspan said on one of the Sunday talk shows on Sunday. It seems pretty obvious to me that the Republicans don't want to admit that President Obama and the Democrats can do anything right (except, maybe, continuing some of Bush's policies). Unless Strickland is a psychic, my opinion is just as good as his about what the Republicans "feel."
Drudge's Ratings are going UP
Obama's Ratings are going DOWN
Obama is being discovered as a lying leftist wacko.
Drudge has created more jobs than Obama has!!!
Ron Indiana: Organized hooligans and thugs are intimidating citizens and legislators at town hall meetings.  Town Hall meetings used to be a place where citizens could engage in the freedom of speech by respectfully expressing their ideas.
Poor things. Up until now all those protests against conservative politicians and speakers were a-okay with the left, but now that they are getting a dose of their own medicine, now they don't like it. Grow up. Americans are realley poed at their representitivies in Washington doing anything but representing them, and they are letting their congressmen and congresswomen know about it. Good for them!!
Every morning I read Abc's The Note, get angry,  argue with their dittohead readers in the comments section, then come to First Read to get the real political scoop. What I love about First Read is that you aren't afraid to criticize the administration when you see hypocrisy there, but you also report on the positive things they do. I TRUST First Read, and it is one of the few news sources I do trust.
Wow. So this is where all the socialists hang out. This is the first time I stumbled onto this site.
It always amazes me how all of your comments manage to spout the same tired, 'liberal' ideas and at the same time pretend that you are so much more sophisticated and enlightened than all of the poor, ignorant conservatives in the world.
That should be a great headline in a paper somewhere:  'Bill Clinton goes to N. Korea for Women.'
Obama mania has screwed you into the ground. You poor pathetic people.
Get out from that credit card debt.
Pay off your house/condo if you can.
Pay your car off.
Don't buy from or use any bailed-out companies.
Fight against the White House sludge that wants your every dollar.
>>>So liberals, do like that the town hall meetings are showing the anger of the People towards ObamaCare? Spector took a beating yesterday. Other pols like Doggart are getting the same treatment. The People don't like ObamaCare, and they don't like liberals reaching into their pockets to steal their money every moment of the day.
The people you see in these protests are plants organized by the Insurance lobby and groups founded by politicians like Dick Armey and Newt Gingrich (who get paid big fat bank from the Insurance industry).  They're astroturf designed to block any information about HCR because they know that once the public is informed, the industry can kiss it's big fat paychecks buh-bye.
See, children?  This is why education is important.  Remember, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste".
Where are all the poll pimps when we need 'em?
"President Barack Obama's job approval rating, after hitting his administration low point of 52% in the middle of last week, has edged back up, and is 56% for the latest three-day period, July 31-Aug. 2.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/122012/Obama-Job-Approval-Edges-Up-56.aspx
Come on now, we all know that one poll on one day at one moment in time is all that matters, so let's be consistent!
Where is all the dancing and singing about the stimulus working and the President's poll numbers going up?
Huh?
Not sexy enough?
lol
*** Craig in trouble? Is White House Counsel Greg Craig’s job in jeopardy? That’s what the Wall Street Journal says.
Who knows, he may be leaking information to those that are in oppose the President’s agenda. Hell, if he is doing that, he needs to go. That explains wht the President looked so tired during his last press confreence. I fire people that do do as I ask them to.
*** Drudge vs. Obama: We know we don’t have to remind our friends in the media and those who follow American politics this simple fact: Matt Drudge isn’t a fan of Obama.
No comment, this tissue just needs flushing. The more attention given, the mre flames are fanned. They get media attention and the DRUGE doesn’t deserve any.
*** Do we need these posts anymore?
Do we need to be in two wars right now? The war of choice comes to my mind. Did we need to deregulate the banks that allowed the CRA to become prey and victum of one of the worst crisis our nation has ever faced?
Of course we need Ambassodors and yes you people need to find something else to report….like the news for a change. Stop nit picking and expecting the Prtesident to Change everything that you disaaprove of. WTF? You people are whinning. We have enough news to report, please report the kick backs that the lawmakers are receiving, report the fact that President Obama is a legal natural born citizen of this nation. Report the fact that senior citizens won’t be put to death under HCR.
Just do your jobs and leave this incidental BS alone. We have Ambassadors and we should have Ambassadors. Give me a break! Please…
Happy Birthday President Barack Hussein Obama!  Let's hope we get to celebrate 7 more of his birthdays while he's in the White Hosue driving the dopes of nope crazy.
I sure hope that the Congress does that 10% tax on cosmetic surgery, time we stop wasting so much money on such worthless procedures and make doctors go back to practicing real medicine to help real people recover from their real medical problems.  That and tax those Cadillac health insurance plans that only the rich and greedy can afford but the rest of us really pay for.  We also need to replace the top two tax brackets Ronny Raygunz got rid of to make sure the rich and greedy pay their fair share of taxes once again.
A good point raised First Read crew about how would Candidate Obama view President Obama.  I think Candidate Obama would be embarrassed that he would abandon the cheaper drug imports from Canada once elected, he'd rather save the thieving drug companies billions instead of We the People, a flip flop for sure.  President Obama needs to channel his inner Candidate Obama persona and remember to forcefully push for the public option for health care reform or he'll find many who voted for him flip flopping.
Pass Health Care Reform with the Public Option Now!
Ron Indiana: What Is Happening to this Country?
Organized hooligans and thugs are intimidating citizens and legislators at town hall meetings.
----------------------------------------------------
You won't find out from First Read, apparently. They  seem to be ignoring the fact that at least some of these mobs were organized by people with connections to lobbyists for -- corporations. I wonder if that connection to corporate America has anything to do with why the corporate media is ignoring what appears to be an extremely serious attempt to subvert American democracy with the Astroturf "grass roots" movements.
