NBC poll: Plurality opposes public option

From NBC's Mark Murray
The question of whether or not the eventual health-care reform legislation will include a public/government option to compete with private insurers has dominated the health-care debate over the past two days.

And according to a brand-new NBC News poll, 47% of Americans -- a plurality -- oppose the public plan, versus 43% who support it. That's a shift from last month's NBC/WSJ poll, when 46% said they backed it and 44% were opposed.

In a follow-up question explaining the benefits and disadvantages associated with a public plan, 45% said they agreed with the description -- by supporters -- that it would help lower health-care costs and provide coverage for uninsured Americans.

But 48% sided with opponents who say a public option would reduce access to their choice of doctors, and would lower costs by limiting medical treatment options.

Tune into Nightly News, or click onto MSNBC.com, for the full results of the poll at 6:30 pm ET.

The poll was conducted Aug. 15-17 of 805 adults. It has a margin of error of plus-minus 3.5 percentage points.

Now you see why Obama tried to ram this through without any review or discussion - the more people learn, the less they like his plans.

Cap and trade is the next to go.  Thereafter, the bonds already issued for his so-called stimulous should be used to pay down debt, rather than contributing to the deficit.  This will take an act of congress in order to be done legally-unlike Obama's using TARP funds to buy an ownership stake in Chrysler and GM.

So many people voted without enough information - for that,the media takes the lion's share of the blame.  If the majority had known what Obama was,they would never have elected him.
Polls really mean nothing when you consider that over 30% of American still believed that Hussein had WMD 6 years later. FOX T.V IS WORKING IT ALONG W/ THE RIGHT WING PUNDITS. Keep the uniformed stupid and unable to think on their own.
Three Obama town hall meetings.

A one hour nationally broadcast press conference with the health care issue being the main topic.

ABC providing 20+ hours of free televison and radio broadcast directly from the White House and topped off with an postive and non-challenging Obama interview during prime time. ABC even refused to sell time to the Republicans for a rebuttal.

Obama Administration officials out day and night, on all Sunday talk shows, on all cable shows, pushing for socialized health care.

Pelosi and Reid 100% on board with the Presidents plans.

Positive stories on network news, CNN, and MSNBC  shows for health care reform out number negative stories 5-1.

And after all that, the best Obama can do is 43%?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WOW!!! A WHOLE 805 adults? What couldn't you at least find 1000?  I realize GE is cutting back... but geeze guys!
I'm no longer paying attention to these so called 'polls' anymore... WHAT I AM paying attention to is the people I talk to every day and WHAT they WANT.  Not an NBC/WJS manufactured controversy!!!
Never in my life (and having been a registered voter since I was 18)... Have I EVER been contacted by EITHER side to participate in a poll.
I'm beginning to suspect a whole lot of this polling is BS and thrown out there so people like no joe no bo have something to rave & ramble on about...
Oh & PS: The margin of error is VERY close...
Ok, listen up...you cannot pay a little co insurance each month and expect thousands in services...end healthcare welfare now and stop these government run programs before they bankrupt the nation..end socialist security, welfaredicare, medicaid and the various veterans programs now.
This Obama character, plain and simple, he's a granma killer.
I have tried to post before but never saw them go through. I just want to thank all of the wonderful republicans for denying us health care public option.
I have cancer - private insurer has dropped me over an answer back 20 years ago on my app. What a coincidence! Can you even find your app from 20 years ago?? Anyway - I am unable to find another insurer. I am unable to afford the cure treatments. I have sold my house, my furniture, well really almost everything. So now my future is death.
So thank you republicans. I will now not be able to get public option. Thank you for denying me the rest of my life. Thank you for denying other Americans too. I am sure they will get down on their hands and knees to kiss your feet. Thank you so much for denying me a glimpse of a grandchild(first one is expected in 7 months - I have 4 months to live).
I am dictating this post to my son.
SON: Why?????????????????????? I love my father. There is no hope for America when Americans will not help others less fortunate.
Oh well, that settles it.
48% of 800 adults don't like the plan.
Let's pack up and go home.
NOT!
lol
The media's constant flogging of these meaningless polls is one of the great distractions of our time.
Seriously.
48% of the people believe the demonstrable lies that are being told about healthcare.
This just in, our CURRENT system "reduces access to their choice of doctors, and would lower costs by limiting medical treatment options. "
This is how insurance companies make a profit.
Did anybody ask the lucky 800 about that?
Of course not!
FR: Just askin’, but when was the last time Baucus praised the public option idea?
Before he saw the polls that said the people hated government run health care.
And the low information voters are polled in higher percentages, again.  Wow!
Finally, someone with a pair of stones!  Why don’t we live in New York?
My dissatisfaction right now is that HCR is being watered down to impotent levels that will insure (ha-an inappropriate pun,...) its demise.
I suspect that the questions in the polls are loaded and misleading.  That is how you keep the poutrage going.
“Why don't we just agree with Gov. Perry and let Texas secede.”  Ron Indiana (Sent Monday, August 17, 2009 2:43 PM)
I’ll go you one better, let’s just sell the state to China and payoff our Chinese Express card.  I am sure the smart Texans will figure out quickly how to convert their money to yen!
----------------------------------
My thoughts go out to Novak's family.
Now isn't the time to say what I feel.
Claire, Claire, Claire...As your old buddy Ronnie Reagan once said, "There you go again"  This time you are underestimating our President.
By Thanksgiving 50 million uninsured Americans will be thankful that they will have health insurance, with portability and no pre-existing clauses.
Again, thank you for your comments. You are respectful and I enjoy discussing issues with you.
And so the president and other politicians need to ignore this poll.  It won't reduce access to their choices of doctors.  That is a scare tactic, and our leaders cannot be swayed by a false belief out there that has tainted the judgement of those opposing the public option.
They need to do what is right, and in time when it becomes apparent to people that they have more options now, not to mention protections from loss of coverage and premiums increasing faster than wages... they will be thankful.
The public option must remain part of any plan if it is to be real reform...
Obama has failed at getting health care reform done WITH the health care insurers and the pharmaceutical compaines on board with his plans! At least Hillary had an excuse, those corportations were working against her.
Wow! A poll from MSNBC, that usually pertains to liberal minded people, may reveal that liberals have doubts about the plan as well.  Interesting.
Don't the 48% who oppose a public option realize that the insurance companies already limit their access to doctors and treatments? Seems like the tactics of the scare mongers on the right are working. Obama needs to stand up to the right and those "blue dog" Dems and tell them without access the "best" health care system in the world doesn't work.
You know what is interesing? A few months ago, the media and the Republicans would never think of attacking Obama directly. His poll ratings were too high, and he was way too popular. But now the Republicans, and surprise, surprise, a lot of Democrats are on the attack against Obama. Even the media has picked up on going after Obama.
Honeymoon is over Barack - And somewhere George Bush is smirking.
And now we now why the Left was so desperate to ram legislation down our throats before the August recess.
All this says is that the plurality of those polled are dumb, stupid, and don't know what they are talking about.
FR--The poll was conducted Aug. 15-17 of 805 adults. It has a margin of error of plus-minus 3.5 percentage points.
----------------
Thanks Mark for posting the number of people that were polled. 805 people are not enough to wan support of the public plan for health care reform.
I feel confident that public option will be included in health insurance reform.
-------------------------------
To: George,
One more thing George. Jobs will increase because the insurance companies will need additional staffing to cover the number of people in need of "completive" services. It's called customer service representatives, research analyst and George...if you make your charges affordable, that 20 cents on the dollar...try lowering your cost.
But these poll numbers won't stop Obama from trying to put as much of the private economy under government control as possible to create his nanny state utopia where he is the boy king.
Let's continue to stand strong against Obama in every way and get Congress out of the hand of Pelosi and Reid in 2010.
I wonder it the "plurality" is within the margin of error for that poll.  In any case, it is not of sufficient substance (less than 10 points) to drive the outcome one way or another.
Now that the progressives seem to have found their voice, I would not be surprised to see the numbers move a little in the opposite direction.
What is important is not only to correct insurance abuses, but to get a grip on health care costs in general.  If the insurors, who have heretofore financed the health care delivery system, which we all agree is a disaster, are not not threatened with a real loss of business unless they change, we will have business as usual.
Over the fall and winter, the financial services market delivered the message that we cannot have free enterprize in America without strong a policeman.  In health care, the "public option" is that policeman.
Clearly the more the public gets into the details of the bill, the less they like it. Obama wasn't elected by the people on a promise of a public option. He should look at other ways to lower the cost of health care and get more people insured. That was his promise. Only the most dense, single-minded person would think that the public option is the "only" way. There are many other opportunities to achieve the objective and do it in an American way that doesn't impose more government control on our lives.
Polls really mean nothing when you consider that over 30% of American still believed that Hussein had WMD 6 years later. FOX T.V IS WORKING IT ALONG W/ THE RIGHT WING PUNDITS. Keep the uniformed stupid and unable to think on their own.
Keep in mind this is an NBC poll.
The numbers probably would be diff in other polls.
Hey End Socialism dude - Call your congressman right now! Oh yeah don't forget that we shouldn't be paying for all the politicians health care either - I mean after all that's socialism too. I'm sure he/she will really listen to you now! Putz.
Please Pat Huntington, tell us dumb stupid masses what to think.  We clearly need a powerful leader to tell us what to do. Democracy has failed us and we need a powerful leader (maybe a King or Czar) to tell us what to do.  It couldn't possibly be that there are informed educated people who don't trust the government to run our health care could it?
Reform is necessary, government control isn't.
Just because people disagree with YOU doesn't make THEM stupid.
The people who oppose a public option think there is death panels in the option.  NBC must have found all the old people home, and the young people off doing summer things.  I am 56 years old and I support a public option, and do not think Obama is trying to kill me.  LOL.
Rupert from Ohio writes:
I have tried to post before but never saw them go through. I just want to thank all of the wonderful republicans for denying us health care public option.
__________________________
Don't be mad at Republicans, sir....be mad at Democrats!!!  They have the votes to get this through...so you should ask yourself, why haven't they voted???
Throw The Healthcare Obstructionist Out!
More than two thirds of the American people want a single payer health care system. And if they cant have a single payer system 76% of all Americans want a strong government-run public option on day one (85% of democrats, 71% of independents, and 60% republicans). Basically everyone.
We have the 37th worst quality of healthcare in the developed world. And the most costly. Costing over twice as much as every other county. Conservative estimates are that over 120,000 of you dies each year in America from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don't die from. Rich, middle class, and poor a like. Insured and uninsured. Men, women, children, and babies. This is what being 37th in quality of healthcare means.
I know that many of you are angry and frustrated that REPUBLICANS! In congress are dragging their feet and trying to block TRUE healthcare reform. What republicans want is just a taxpayer bailout of the DISGRACEFUL GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance industry, and the DISGRACEFUL GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT healthcare industry. A trillion dollar taxpayer funded private health insurance bailout is all you really get, without a robust government-run public option available on day one. Co-OP's ARE NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A GOVERNMENT-RUN PUBLIC OPTION. They are a fraud being pushed by the GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance industry that is KILLING YOU!
YOU CANT HAVE AN INSURANCE MANDATE WITHOUT A ROBUST PUBLIC OPTION. MANDATING PRIVATE FOR PROFIT HEALTH INSURANCE AS YOUR ONLY CHOICE WOULD BE A DISASTER. AND UNETHICAL, CORRUPT, AND MORALLY REPUGNANT. AND PROBABLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL AS WELL.
These industries have been slaughtering you and your loved ones like cattle for decades for profit. Including members of congress and their families. These REPUBLICANS are FOOLS!
Republicans and their traitorous allies have been trying to make it look like it's President Obama's fault for the delays, and foot dragging. But I think you all know better than that. President Obama inherited one of the worst government catastrophes in American history from these REPUBLICANS! And President Obama has done a brilliant job of turning things around, and working his heart out for all of us.
But Republicans think you are just a bunch of stupid, idiot, cash cows with short memories. Just like they did under the Bush administration when they helped Bush and Cheney rape America and the rest of the World.
But you don't have to put up with that. And this is what you can do. The Republicans below will be up for reelection on November 2, 2010. Just a little over 13 months from now. And many of you will be able to vote early. So pick some names and tell their voters that their representatives (by name) are obstructing TRUE healthcare reform. And are sellouts to the insurance and medical lobbyist.
Ask them to contact their representatives and tell them that they are going to work to throw them out of office on November 2, 2010, if not before by impeachment, or recall elections. Doing this will give you something more to do to make things better in America. And it will make you feel better too.
There are many resources on the internet that can help you find people to call and contact. For example, many social networking sites can be searched by state, city, or University. Be inventive and creative. I can think of many ways to do this. But be nice. These are your neighbors. And most will want to help.
I know there are a few democrats that have been trying to obstruct TRUE healthcare reform too. But the main problem is the Bush Republicans. Removing them is the best thing tactically to do. On the other hand. If you can easily replace a democrat obstructionist with a supportive democrat, DO IT!
You have been AMAZING!!! people. Don't loose heart. You knew it wasn't going to be easy saving the World. :-)
God Bless You
Brilliant comment Pat. There are valid concerns about a government option that you just don't get. Many educated people, would prefer that our government is limited. I could care less about many of the details in the legislation, because my primary opposition to the concept of govt healthcare is that our government rarely runs anything well. Further, our political system is so convaluded that I have little to no trust of our elected officials to create a massive government program and beaurocracy that amounts to 1/7th of our economy. Our current healthcare system has served my family, my parents, and their parents very well. Many believe the current healthcare system can be improved greatly by strong leadership.
But go on thinking that everyone that disagrees with your position is stupid, Einstein.
This Poll of 805 Adults is not worth the paper it is written on.  It's totally bogus and MSNBC should be ashamed of itself for conducting such a sample that is no where near the required "Required Representative sample for 300 Million American citizens in this country.
THE ELDERLY WHO ARE CURRENTLY ON GOVERNMENT RUN MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY ARE THE ONES COMPLAINING AND THEY HAVE NO STAKE IN THE DEBATE.
WHY ARE THEY CONCERNED? THEY HAVE GOVERNMENT RUN MEDICARE, NO ONE WILL ASK THE TRILLION DOLLAR QUESTION OF THESE PEOPLE
NOT ONE SENATOR WILL ASK EXCEPT FOR CLAIRE MA CASKAL WILL ASK THEM HOW MANY IN THE ROOM HAVE MEDICARE.  WHEN SHE ASKED THEY ALL RAISED THEIR HANDS
SO WHY ARE THEY CONCERNED, THE GRAND MA STUFF THAT GRASLEY LIED ABOUT IS SO RIDICULOUS
FACE IT PEOPLE MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY ARE BOTH GOVERNMENT BUT THE MEDIA NOR THE DEMOCRATS ARE BRINGING THIS FACT TO LIGHT.
THIS DEBATE SHOULD NEVER HAVE PROGRESSED TO THIS POINT
IT'S THE DYING THOSE 20,000+ EACH AND EVERY YEAR THAT HAVE NO ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE AND THOSE "UNDER INSURED" THAT ARE OF CONCERN
IT'S SAD BECAUSE MANY ARE SAYING THAT THEY LIKE WHAT THEY HAVE, THAT'S BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER HAD A SERIOUS ILLINESS THAT TEST THEIR COVERAGE
JUST ASKE THE 67% WHO FILED BANKRUPTCY WHO ACTUALLY HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE BUT THE INSURANCE COMPANY REFUSED TO PAY ALL THE CLAIMS.  AS A RESULT THESE AMERICANS ARE LEFT WITH THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OUT OF POCKET
AMERICANS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE COVERS MOST HAVE NEVER EVEN READ THEIR POLICIES AND IF THEY HAVE THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND
MOST AMERICANS THINK THAT ALL THEY HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IS THE DECUTIBLE, COPAYS AND COINSURANCE AND THE REST IS PICKE UP 100% BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY, WELL IT'S NOT JUST ASK THOSE WHO ARE STUCK WITH PAYING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THAT THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY REFUSED TO PAY AND THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THAT THE HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES REFUSED TO PAY FOR PRESCRIPTIONS BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT GENERIC OR SIMPLY NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR PLANS
HEALTH INSURANCE IS THE MOST COMPLEX ISSUES FACING AMERICANS AND THEY HAVEN'T A CLUE UNLESS THEY HAVE EXPERTISE IN THE INDUSTRY AND MOST DON'T
WHO HAS READ THE EXCLUSINON AND LIMITATION PROVISION OF THEIR POLICY? WHAT DOE IT MEAN? WHAT'S NOT COVERED?  WHAT'S LIMITED?
CLAIMS PAYMENTS ARE BASED ON THE CLAIMS EXAMINER/PROCESSOR USING CPT CODES FROM A BOOK THAT AMERICANS HAVE NO ACCESS TO AND A DIAGNOSIS BOOK THAT THE PUBLIC DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO AS WELL
MOST HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES HAVE IN-HOUSE DOCTORS AND NURSES WHO REVIEW THE LARGE CLAIMS CLAIMS SOMETIMES STARTING AT $10,000 AND DETERMINE JUST HOW YOUR CLAIM WILL BE PAID.
IF THEY DON'T HAVE IN-HOUSE DOCTORS AND NURSES EMPLOYED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY THEY HAVE DOCTORS CONSULTANTS WHO RUN A DAILY PRACTICE THAT COME IN TWICE A WEEK AND REVIEW CLAIMS STARTING AT A CERTAIN DOLLAR AMOUNT AND MAKE DETERMINATIONS RELATIVE TO WHAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL OR WON'T PAY AND DETERMINE YOUR COURSE OF TREATMENT
SOUND LIKE RATIONING, WELL IT IS AND THESE MEDICAL TEAMS MANY TIMES WON'T AGREE WITH YOUR OWN DOCTOR'S COURS OF TREATMENT, THEY MAKE THE DETERMINATION.
INSURANCE POLICY LANGUAGE SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS THE SPD (SUMMARY PLAN DESCRIPTION) THAT SHOULD BE GIVEN TO EVERY INSURED CONTAIN PROVISIONS BY WHICH YOUR CLAIMS SHOULD BE ADMINISTERED, HOWEVER, THERE IS MUCH THAT IS NOT CLEAR, THE LANGUAGE IS AMBIBOUS CLEARLY IN FAVOR OF THE INSURANCE COMPANY
AMERICANS FOR THE MOST PART ARE CLUELESS.  HOW MANY AMERICANS KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN/POLICY WILL PAY IN A LIFETIME? YES IN A LIFETIME?  HAVE YOU READ YOUR POLICY?
THE HEALTH DEBATE IS NOT PRACTICAL BECAUSE THE REAL EXPERTS ARE THE "HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES" SO MUCH IS NOT PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE WHEN MAKING CLAIMS PAYMENTS.
HOWEVER SINCE AMERICANS THINK THEY KNOW THEIR POLICIES THE HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES MADE A 49% PROFIT IN THE MIDDLE OF A RECESSION THE SECOND WORST IN OUR HISTORY
AND THE HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK BECAUSE THEY KNOW AMEIRCANS DON'T HAVE THE EXPERTISE TO REALLY KNOW OR CARE HOW THEIR CLAIMS WILL BE PAID IF THEY INCUR A SERIOUS ILLNESS
HEALTH INSURANCE CLAIMS PAYMENTS ARE THE BEST KEPT SECRETS IN THE WORLD IN THE U.S.
WHILE AMERICANS ARE FIGHTING ABOUT HEALTH PLANS THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA HOW THEY PAY SHOULD THEY INCUR A SERIOUS ILLNESS
HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE HAVING A PARTY, INCREASING YOUR PREMIUMS, LOWERING YOUR BENEFITS, AND CHOICES AND RATIONING WHAT WILL OR WON'T BE PAID AND WHAT WILL OR WON'T BE COVERED
Obama needs to hammer this message over and over to all who are currently insured by their employers: one of the main reasons you haven't seen a meaningful raise in years is because your employer is paying out the nose to insure you.
We recently learned my husband's employer was paying $16,000 a year to insure our family of three. We are all healthy, with no pre-existing conditions, and rarely even use our insurance.
That $16K price tag explains a lot, namely why my husband's raises, when he got them, were never more than 2 or 3% of his current salary.
Can someone please answer these questions:
1) Where is NBC conducting these polls?
2) What type of adults are being polled (e.g., white males/females; black males/females; Hispanic males/females; Republicans, Democrats, Independents)?
3) How are the questions worded in these polls (this makes quite a bit of difference in the responses you receive)
4) Has anyone posting here ever participated in one of these NBC and/or WSJ polls?
Hopefully FR will post this, as there are some intelligent folks posting here that could, possibly, provide some important feedback to these questions...I know of these folks because they post here all the time...sometimes multiple times in a single day and to a single article.
I'm opposed to a public plan also. In fact, I think all current public plans should be ended immediately.
It is ridiculous that government employees and retirees and along with the medicare/medicaid/veterans crowd are able to enjoy heavily subsiidzed near free healthcare while the rest of us foot the bills.
If I can't have the free goodies then neither should you, your parents or your kids.
Claire, Claire, Claire...As your old buddy Ronnie Reagan once said, "There you go again"  This time you are underestimating our President.
------------------------------------------------------
  Perhaps you're right Ron, and perhaps in the end the outcome won't be what it appears to be headed for now.  But you can hardly dispute the point I was making:  that if President Obama had a few more years experience in Congress, he'd have a better feel for how to work the levers of power....which is what made LBJ successful.
 Thanks for your kind comments.
All this says is that the plurality of those polled are dumb, stupid, and don't know what they are talking about.
Why, because they disagree with you?
I am 100% behind health care reform.  My issue is we keep discussing health insurance as though that is what most Americans have.  What we have is Medical Coverage.  If we had Health Insurance we would be looking at a more proactive, preventative focused health care from our providers.  Medical coverage is reactive and cost prohibitive at its best.  I want what my US Senators and Reps have.
"Now you see why Obama tried to ram this through without any review or discussion - the more people learn, the less they like his plans."
There has been plenty of attempts to review and discuss. This is the reason for all the townhalls. We are unable to have discussions, though, when people come to the public forums prepared only to hiss and boo, not listen. Most of the lies being told right now on healthcare reform are coming from the right, not the left. Unfortunately, the people yelling have only stopped to listen to the right.
Look...you can blame Fox as well as NBC, CNBC & CNN for profiling either side of this story.  Liberals and lefties are as susceptible to misinformation as well and Republicans and conservatives, and both are equally vocal in there opinions (although I think the left is often proffers a sanctimonous, elitist attitude in delivering their opinions).
Facts, however are, facts.  If the majority of people dont something, they simply don't like it. PERIOD.
Let us look at an example of true stupidy and intolerance: Read from above the post from Pat in Huntington, NY.
Think, people, think.  WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER.
Margin of error of plus-minus 3.5 which means 47% and 43% are statistically equal to the poll where 46% said they backed it and 44% were opposed.
This poll shows no change from the last one.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margin_of_error#Basic_concept
All I can say is that the poll is way to small to represent the US.  There are 300 million people here; why only 805 were asked?  This issue needs some serious consideration, but one poll doesn't make it seem over.  There are so many issues to deal with that one poll with such a small number shouldn't end the discussion.
To No Joe, No BO: do you ever consider that there are problems out there that the free market won't do anything about until it is way too late?  I would likel you to consider how someone (single or in a family) tries to afford medical insurance when the employer doesn't offer it (or offers something that has such a high deductable that it is useless).  We need to be able, as a society, to make sure that everyone can be cared for be it physical or mental health.  What does it say about us as a society if we refuse to help those that need it?
Global warming is the same way.  I would like a planet where my kids don't have to worry about getting flooded out of their houses while other parts of the country (and world) are getting more and more parched.  Businesses don't seem interested in doing this, so therefore, government must step in and do something.
Ive read the bill. Ive read EVERY piece of information put out by the WH and the media feeds about the House version of the bill-This is why I cannot support it. I vote No because I am informed.
Let me tell you all a story about a man named Rick. He was a palin supporter and didn't want to share his wealth with others but he didn't have any problem sharing my wealth with himself. He had a 60K a year job, healthcare for him and his family and things were fine. and then.
He had a stroke and couldn't work anymore. I fired him and he couldn't afford the cobra. Now he and his wife are filing for bankruptcy because of the costs while he awaits for that socialist disability thing to kick in so he can share some more of my wealth.
There are a lot of these Ricky Republicans out there losing jobs and healthcare. Maybe when enough of them are broken we can start talking about HCR in a civilized manner.
Until then I encourage every small business owner to get rid of their rickys. I did and not only cut my costs but productivity went way up too.
Clara in KC
Never mind Mr. Novak's death. Say what you feel about the man.
Let's hear that liberal spin, Clara style.
If any of these crazies who blame our national debt on the Obama administration would do some research they would find out that we are in this mess thanks to Bush!!!  His last year in office (2008) he racked up a national debt of 1 trillion dollars.  Not to mention that ever since 2001 our debt has been rising.  Now if you would also check your facts on the public option then you would realize that it is in the best interest for Americans now.  How can some of you be so heartless that you would rather people that need healthcare but can't afford it to go without.  Where are the "so-called" right wing christians?  Is this being Christ-like?
