From NBC's Mark Murray
With Congress back in session and back working on health care, the strange-bedfellows group -- consisting of SEIU, the American Medical Association, PhRMA, Families USA, and the Federation of American hospitals -- has a new TV ad trying to debunk some of the misinformation in the health-care debate.

The one-minute ad by the group Americans for Stable Quality Care will air in Indiana, Maine, Arkansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Colorado, Florida, Alaska, Iowa, Montana Nevada and South Dakota, as well as on cable and DC broadcast.

The ad is part of Americans for Stable Quality Care's $12 million buy it announced last month.

The AMA, just like the AARP, has been losing rank-and-file members for these types of ads. Pretty soon these lobbyists will be representing just their executive boards. Too bad then they won't have any money from the dues of their members to buy these nutty ads.
Good another ad that exposes the Great Right Lies against health care reform with the public option.  So sad that so many ignorant Americans just can't tell lies when they're told.  I sure hope we see more positive ads like this to counter the myriad of lies being bandied about by the party of sore losers.

President Obama gave a pretty inspiring speech yesterday for the AFL-CIO and we can only hope he'll be even more inspirational Wednesday night.

Pass Health Care Reform with the Public Option!

Still time to recover

But, I'd LOVE to see Obama Fire Rahm Emmanuel and hire Howard Dean after this is over

MSierra,

I was thinking about that over the weekend after you brought it up on Friday.  I think you might be on to something… Rahm appears to be the ‘outsider’ on the HCR debate!

When he was nominated at COS I thought it would be a great fit because of his experience & unwillingness to take sh*t from the GEENOPEE!

Now I’m leaning to that might have been a BIG mistake! And there’s no doubt Obama made another one by NOT hiring Howard Dean!  I’m still dying to know what the ‘bad blood’ is between Rahm & Dean?
Bravo,,since the press will not report on the lies being spewed. It seems that the days of reading reporters words, and asking them for the facts, we have to fact check all the spewings our selfs.Ratings over real facts, sounds like the Foxiolgy is working at MSNBC also.
Propaganda.
I continue to hear people say "Republicans" oppose the Obama plan.

How can this be a "real" issue? Democrats control all branches and can ram anything they want down the throats of the taxpayers, like it or not.

Republicans have NO say so and to use them as an excuse is excuse the play on words but "Transparent"!

We elected a guy who has no clue on how to lead, he is a good speech maker, but not an Executive type officer. That's what America truly needs at this time and he does not fit the bill.

Help a brother recover, we can begin in 2010.
Just tell me why I sometimes can't find a link to First Read on the Politics page? Anybody?
I think everything should be free. And I think someone else should have to pay for it.
Since the vast majority of Americans are covered by insurance policies through their employers, this straw man argument falls flat.  Bill Clinton signed the law that allows for portability and no denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions.  Look it up.

In other news, three of the conspirators who intended to use liquids to blow up planes leaving from Heathrow airport have been convicted. I can only assume that First Read missed this story as they are hot on the trail of another story about the Palin family.  (Palin family dog reveals that he is only served cheap dog food!)

I'm actually shockedthat you ignored this story, as there is some red meat in there-British authorities believe that the Bush administration forced their hands in the arrests before they were ready.  it seems that the Brits believe that the Bush administration forced Pakistani officials to arrest one of the plotters because they feared that the Brits were taking too long to make their case.

I thought a story like that would be right up your alley.
Well, thank you, AMA.  It's about time doctors grew a spine in this process.  Won't it be interesting to see the insurance companies come out and attack the AMA?  Can't wait to hear them say, "don't trust decisions to doctors ..."  LoL

By the way, who profits from all these ads on both sides of the health care issue, anyway?  I thought so.

Cheney/Palin 2012
Too bad the mainstream media didn't do their job and you know do some real fact checking and reporting on the facts of healthcare rather than repeat nonsense that some ninny comes up with and calling that reporting.

Any idiot with internet access can start some dumb rumor. The MSM is under no obligaiton to repeat every outrageous claim they hear as a "fact".

It still strikes me as hilarious these seniors on medicare decrying socialized medicine. Do these  seniors really believe they have paid for their healthcare already?
The expectations for Obama's speech tomorrow are very low. For me, I just hope he's somewhat coherent and there is some kind of rhyme or reason to his plan.
I think everything should be free. And I think someone else should have to pay for it. Typical Liberal (Sent Tuesday, September 08, 2009 10:35 AM)

Kind of like your off budget wars and giving the drug companies carte blanche to rape the taxpayers for grandpas viagra eh?
President Obama gave a pretty inspiring speech yesterday for the AFL-CIO and we can only hope he'll be even more inspirational Wednesday night.

============

If you're going to church, you look for inspiration. If you're running a country, then you better have the money to pay for it. Obama is more the preaching type then the governing type. It's nice that he'll inspire you, but that doesn't translate to any votes in Congress.

After HCR, what's Obama next loony money wasting scheme?
President Obama gave a pretty inspiring speech yesterday ........

Exactly! That's all he's got. Old saying goes, that and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee.

Weak brew for you here poster.
Rahm appears to be the ‘outsider’ on the HCR debate!

Hello? His brother is part of the team working on it so unfortunately he has strong ties.
The difference between "typical" liberals and "typical" republicans is that typical republicans don't think everyone should pay for it; they think THEY shouldn't pay for it.  When they need it, they're happy to take it, and when it's not there, they pound the table and demand to know why.
Jesse Sgt. Paul MN: I misread your earlier comments and reacted without thinking.  My Bad.

Quite frankly, people have tuned-out when it comes to TV ads.  I hear 4 or 5 each morning and in 5 seconds you know they are for or against health care insurance companies. Let's wait and see what our President has to say.
I'm done...after hearing republicans refer to our president in the same light as Kim Jong Il. and Saddam Hussein for wanting to do something that both ronald reagan and george H.W. bush both did...i'm done with supporting any GOP policy...ever

Greg P. NW Indiana

What a blow to the GOP. I've bet until now you've been quite the supporter of their plans.
'...If the Roberts Court ends up overturning precedents upholding restrictions on campaign advertisements financed by corporations and unions, can conservatives ever rail against "judicial activism" with a straight face? ...'

THIS is why Supreme Court appointments are important
The Supreme Court has traditionally supported Capital
It has always supported Corporations against people

If you look at the original decision allowing corporations 'citizenship' --- THAT was JUDICIAL ACTIVISM

Or more exactly, screw the constituion GIVE CORPORATIONS WHAT THEY WANT

Nothing has changed
the Supreme Court used the 14th Amendment to 'grant' citizenship to corporations
The 14th Amendment has NOTHING TO DO WITH CORPORATIONS !!

A corrupt dSupreme Court ecision during the corrupt 'Guilded Age'

Thanks Feisty
I wonder if it was the 50 state strategy or just populism
Dena seems like a populist to me
Can't wait till this HCR farce gets voted down across the board.  The majority of people would be getting tired of hearing the liberals constant crying about it.
Yeppers when confronted with actual facts the cons on this blog and elsewhere all scream propaganda. Just what is wrong with all of you? Are you all so blinded by your irrational hatred of all things Obama that you feel he must be opposed at all times ? Even when what he is attempting to accomplish is plainly in your best interest?
I never seem to get my message posted but here goes anyway
marcus, President Obama has always said that he wants things done differently working together instead of washington as usual and although you wish he wasn't a good leader he actually is, please go back and look and see what he has accomplished in less than 9 months
Wow, again I say that HCR has to be done soon.  Those who are so against the reform, because they "love" their coverage must not know anyone who has been denied health insurance due to a pre-existing condition.  I have 2 immediate family members who are now un-insured due to job losses.  Both are unable to get coverage and have both been denied due to pre-existing conditions.  One is 50 and the other is 24.  What is that telling you??
Why are the lies about reform so popular amoung the under informed population??  Most of the watch FOX or listen to Rush.  Both continue to spew hatred of this current government and promote lies about the proposed bills.  None of which have been voted on yet.
For those who profess to be so christian and are so against health care does not the Bible say that we are to take care of the sick, help the poor, not be greedy?  I am confused about this!  I truely believe we are going to fail as a nation without a change in how we view the under-priviledged.
Great ad.  Common Sense, intelligence, and truth are finally making a showing and spending the money neccessary to buy some tv time.  September should be the month of sticking it to the conservative morons and their histrionic tirades.
Feisty Redhead the bad blood between Rahm Emanuel and Howard Dean goes back to the 2006 election cycle. Rahm Emanuel wanted the Democrats to concentrate on areas that were traditional Democratic strongholds. Dean wanted to employ the "50 State Strategy" to erode Republican strength nationally.
Well the results of the 2006 election proved Howard Dean correct. Democrats did better in the areas where Dean supported generally progresive candidates than they did with Emanuel's "centrist candidates" running in "safe" Democratic districts.
In short as DNC chair Howard Dean had the chutzpah to disagree with Rahm Emanuel and to top it off had the nerve of being right.
Since the vast majority of Americans are covered by insurance policies through their employers, this straw man argument falls flat.  Bill Clinton signed the law that allows for portability and no denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions.  Look it up - no joe, no bo, nj
========================
Could you please provide a link to law President Clinton signed?  I only found FMLA which was signed into law in 1993 to be somewhate relavant, but I saw nothing in it that related to portability and/or denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions.

If such laws do exist, I'm not certain that I would categorize them as 'straw man', since both of these issues are current day problems.  If the laws exists, they must be loose, because I sure don't see the insurers obeying them!?!?

The deniability of coverage only applies when moving from one company provided health care plan to another. There are still big problems if:

- You're moving to a company that doesn't provide coverage and you want to get your own plan
- You had a gap in coverage between jobs. The new insurance can deny claims for 12 months for pre-existing conditions. You cannot put off treatment for many chronic or critical illnesses for 12 months
- You work for a company that doesn't provide health care coverage

This was just one law that while it helps, doesn't address all the issues. We still need health care reform and we need it now.

20,000 Americans die each year because they don't have health insurance coverage
700,000 Americans go bankrupt each year because they don't have medical coverage

I still think a public option is the best way, but like President Obama, I'm willing to accept alternatives if they solve the problems.

Finally, I think the key point of this commercial is to dispel the lies that health care reform puts the government in control of your health care decisions.

There is nothing in any of the bills currently being considered that does that. Those that oppose health care reform are saying that this bill will lead to that. But there is no evidence of this, and in fact, the bills even state that the advisory board will not determine treatments or payments.
OBAMA MUST FIRE 'RAHM THE IDIOT' FROM CHICAGO ---

'This ain't Chicago ... it's Prime Time USA.'
How sad that MSM refuses to expose the lies and distortions of opponents of HCR and that the American public has to rely on advertisements to do so.  Shame, shame, shame.  The media should be shouting from every mechanism at their ability; what is actually in the bill and what is not and dispelling the lies spewed forth by those opposed to HCR.  And the media wonder why the American public has no faith in their journalistic integrity.  I would be delighted for MSNBC to devote a day of coverage, round the clock, to the actual bill, explain it in terms average people can understand.
Allan:  It is called the Health Care Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.  If you google it, you will find that it is all but impossible for any insurance provided by employers to deny anyone coverage for a pre-existing condition.

As i have stated before, I have kidney disease that is related to a birth defect. No,I have never been denied coverage due to this.  No,I have never been dropped because of the costs of my disease-and they are quite astronomical.

I aslo have homeowner's and auto insurance, and have submitted claims for both.  I have not been dropped as a result, but i DO know people who have, both car and homeowner.

Before purchasing insurance, i do my homework, and learn as much as possible before committing any money.  i ask my agent what the liklihood of being dropped after submitting a claim might be, and base my decision on the best coverage-not the least amount of money.

I find it odd that people do more research on a television purchase than insurance coverage.

Then just call the second largest PAC contributor to the DNC- The Trial Lawyers and have them rape the doctor or drug company or anyone else who has victimized you all your pathetic life. Just remember, ask for a HUGE settlement because the lawyer keeps over 80%.

Unfortunately the MSM has become nothing more than gossip mongers. That yellow journalism of the tabloids I remember my journalism teacher railed about so many years ago. Had the MSM been doing their collective jobs we wouldn't need ads like this to dispel the lies and rumors. But then again they do, like any other commercial, help pay the bills of the stations and networks they run on. $$$
No Joe said:
"Bill Clinton signed the law that allows for portability and no denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions."

That is only for GROUP plans.  The Individual insurance market is like the Wild, Wild West.  They can use rescission to cancel your policy, they can deny you for pre-existing conditions like a c-section or deviated septum.   They have lifetime coverage caps, and massive out of pocket expenses.

"Portability" isn't exactly what it seems either.  You can get COBRA coverage for a limited number of months.  After that you have to find a new individual plan (as long as you have no pre-existing condition), get on a group plan at your new job (which is hopefully at a company that is large enough to offer coverage), or you simply get kicked off.
