First thoughts: Obama's three audiences

*** Obama's three audiences: Perhaps the best way to view (and also judge) President Obama's health-care address tonight is to consider that he's speaking to three audiences. The first is ordinary American voters -- call them Joe and Jane from Kansas City. What we've picked up from the White House is that the president isn’t expected to get into the legislative weeds in tonight’s speech, but instead hopes to explain to Joe and Jane that his health-care reform will 1) cover nearly everyone and 2) cut costs in the long run. If that message isn’t hammered home to Joe and Jane, then the White House will consider tonight’s speech a failure. By the way, Joe and Jane in Kansas City live in the geographic AND political middle.

*** Fixing the public option fetish: But the speech also will be a failure if progressives -- Obama’s second audience tonight -- are still obsessing over the public option a week from now. We've said this before and we'll say it again: Obama never made the public option the focus of his health-care ideas, in the primaries or in general election. In fact, he never uttered the words "public option" or "public plan" in his big campaign speeches on health care. But there is no doubt that the public option has fired up the left, and how he sells them near-universal coverage and lower costs -- even if it means no public plan -- could very well be the trickiest part of tonight's speech. Indeed, that the White House allowed this to become the be-all, end-all on the left ("Public option or die!") remains a mystery. On TODAY this morning, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that “there can be no reform without adequate choice and competition,” but didn’t say that choice and competition had to come from a public option.

*** Wiggle room: Here's one more thought on the public option: House Democratic leaders already seem to be softening their insistence on it. Yesterday, the top three House Dems -- Pelosi, Hoyer, and Clyburn -- all left themselves some wiggle room on the issue. "If the public option isn't in there, I still could support a bill, because I think there is a lot in there that is good," Hoyer said, per NBC’s Luke Russert. On MSNBC, Clyburn didn't draw a line on the sand on the issue either, saying that a "trigger" delaying a public option would be acceptable. And while Pelosi maintained that the public option was essential, she also said this: “We will have a public option in our [House] bill,” which seemed to leave open the possibility that the final conference bill might omit it. By the way, the left should be happy about one thing: The compromise talk appears to revolve around the trigger, which keeps the potential for a public option alive. What aren't we hearing about anymore? Co-ops.

*** Snowe patrol: If there's a third audience tonight -- following Joe and Jane from Kansas City and progressives -- it's the lone Republican who remains a real player on health care: Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe. Her support, and her ability to bring along a conservative Democrat like Ben Nelson on something like the trigger, is the formula for Democrats getting 60 in the Senate and being able to bypass the tricky (and uncertain) reconciliation process. How important has Snowe become? Important enough that the liberal group Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is running a grassroots and advertising campaign just in Maine, which stresses that reform must include 1) allowing people to keep their health insurance if they like it; 2) forcing the insurers to behave; and 3) providing a public insurance option.

*** Great expectations: The sky is falling and tonight’s speech is the only thing standing in the way of a political collapse!!!!! OK, that's not true. But judging by some of the breathless coverage, there certainly are incredible expectations for tonight's speech. The only thing folks aren't expecting, apparently, is for the president to announce, in detail, how he'll cure cancer. Every single news organization seems to be putting this speech in "do-or-die" terms. That said, in his interview with ABC this morning, Obama admitted to one thing that many inside the White House have whispered on background but ever never said on the record: that he left too much ambiguity, and that was because they left the details to Congress. It may be a "Captain Obvious" observation, but coming directly from the president is telling. That does sound like a president whose intent is grab hold of the health-care debate and own the legislation.

*** The skinny on tonight’s speech: Obama delivers his speech to a joint session of Congress at 8:00 pm ET (and this morning he will speak at Walter Cronkite’s funeral service in New York). Republicans have tapped GOP Rep. Charles Boustany of Louisiana, a doctor, to give the Republican response to Obama’s address. Also, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader John Boehner will hold a news conference in the early afternoon to discuss what they see as the need for responsible, bipartisan health-care reform in advance of Obama’s address tonight.

*** Palin returns … to the op-ed pages: Sure to take up a large part of the health-care discussion between now and when Obama delivers his remarks later tonight, Sarah Palin has penned an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal arguing that the health-care legislation that has emerged so far from Congress has failed to live up to Obama’s promises. More significantly perhaps, she once again raises the specter of these two words: “death panels.” She writes, “Establishment voices dismissed that phrase, but it rang true for many Americans. Working through ‘normal political channels,’ they made themselves heard, and as a result Congress will likely reject a wrong-headed proposal to authorize end-of-life counseling in this cost-cutting context. But the fact remains that the Democrats' proposals would still empower unelected bureaucrats to make decisions affecting life or death health-care matters. Such government overreaching is what we've come to expect from this administration.”

*** 'Gang of Six' update: Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus told his bipartisan group trying to write a health-care reform bill that if a deal can be struck, he wants it done today before President Obama addresses a joint session of Congress, NBC’s Ken Strickland says. Without specifically laying out a deadline, he suggested the talks will end soon. Baucus will meet with Finance Committee Democrats in the morning (11:00 am ET); the entire Senate Democratic caucus in its weekly luncheon in the afternoon (12:30 pm); and the "Gang of Six" later in the day (TBD). What will happen at 10:00 am? Will Grassley and Enzi present a counterproposal, making it unlikely Baucus has any official bill to present to his committee before the president's speech? Or will Baucus digest the counterproposal quickly in order to stay a player? If the president presents a plan before Baucus, does that make his committee no more than a legislative rubber stamp and Baucus himself less relevant? Who has more sway at this point with Snowe: Baucus or the president?

*** Perception vs. reality: As we mentioned yesterday, the other big political event today is the Supreme Court hearing oral arguments in the Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission case, which could end up overturning precedents on restrictions over corporate and union advertising in elections. This comes as a new Gallup poll has this stunning finding: More folks believe the Supreme Court is “too liberal” versus “too conservative.” It’s the first time there has been a significant liberal perception advantage over the conservatives since before John Roberts joined the court. By the way, 50% said the court was "about right" -- the highest number Gallup's recorded in TWO DECADES.

*** Dodd to remain at Banking? It looks like Chris Dodd is going to buck the C.W. and keep his Senate Banking Committee gavel and not take over the Senate HELP Committee, chaired by the late Ted Kennedy. Dodd is supposed to make his decision public today. This would mean Tom Harkin would be next in line to take over Senate HELP. This is a mild surprise and something the left would be happy about, given that the initial response about Sen. Tim Johnson taking over Banking was not good. Also, worth noting: There was some concern among those trying to re-write the regulations for the financial world (which is perhaps the biggest story few are covering in Washington right now) that Johnson didn't have the staff in place to handle the other BIG legislative fight this year, financial reform.

*** Martinez’s exit: Finally today, retiring Sen. Mel Martinez (R) gives his farewell speech from the Senate floor at 10:30 am ET. His successor, George LeMieux, whom Florida Gov. (and Senate candidate) Charlie Crist appointed, will be sworn in on Thursday at 2:45 pm.

Used to be liberals had anti-authority and anti-establishment principles. Today's so called liberals now see no danger in expanding government authority and intrusive, wasteful bureaucracy. They in fact are no longer liberals, but are socialists. The modern liberals/socialist no longer stands for freedom but they do stand for total centralized government control. Any person that calls themselves a liberal and supports Obama's hostile takeover of the health care industry is in fact a socialist.
So, I’m going to go ahead and give the media review of the President’s speech before he gives it, since the media gives the same review every time.

- It was a good speech, not a great speech.
- He didn’t give enough specifics.
- He gave too many specifics.
- The President looked tired.
- It wasn’t bipartisan enough.
- He is a great communicator, but that speech is not
going to solve all of our problems like he
 promised.
- I still don’t know what the public option is.
- The President needs to "lead" on healthcare.
(Nobody knows what the hell this means, but it
sure is fun to say! :>)

Sometimes, I just have to laugh at what passes for “commentary” these days.
11 hours and counting…

This is it… we’re down to ‘crunch’ time and I have no doubt that OUR President is going to get this done!

Explain to me why I should continue to tune in to your station to listen to a man who, just last week, wrote that Hitler did not want war.

Have you all lost your minds?

"Birthers" are the nuts on the right wing fringe that claim Obama wasn't born a US citizen. "Truthers" are the nuts that say Bush and Cheney had inside knowledge and in fact planned and executed the attacks of 9/11. Truthers though are not on the left wing fringe, but are in fact part of the Obama administration. See Van Jones for details.
Obama's message tonight? Health care is free, and the other guy will pay for it. We'll cut health care costs, and still provide more, better, and cheaper health care. Eat anything you want, and still lose weight.
I had heard that Glenn Beck asked yesterday of his viewers that they pray for his safety. Why? Is he ticking people off? Who? Perhaps Glenn Beck ought to take a minute and call the White House Secret Service and find out if there are an inordinate amount of threats against the President. If there are, Glenn should ask what the threats are about. Perhaps it has something to do with racism.

It's my understanding that Beck is a recovering alcoholic. Good for him. It’s always inspiring when we hear about people who realize they have a problem and do something about it. Although I must admit I was surprised when I learned he had had a drinking problem at one time. Isn't it a shame he can't do what most people I know do who are recovering alcoholics? They help others cope with their frustrations, their bitterness’s, their disappointments, their lack of self worth. I don't know one alcoholic who talks the way Beck does. Not one. As a matter of fact, they are quite the opposite of Beck.

So I don't believe Beck is a recovering anything. He's a phony. Make the call to the Secret Service, Beck. See how your words are being interpreted by people who are as weak as you are. And then go to AA counseling. They're there to help people like you. And you need help. Badly. Do you have a wife? Children? They should come first, before your ratings and your rantings. You're a danger to not only yourself but to others as well. It is you yourself who is putting your life in danger if it is threatened, as you believe it is. Just take a moment and listen to yourself.

Trying bringing joy to people's lives. Instead of hate. We've had enough of that in this country to last a few lifetimes. Being concerned for your safety should be paramount.  Being concerned for other’s safety should be as well, including our President. Make the call. And then take care of yourself. There are an awful of lot unstable people in the world. You should know. We needn’t be spreading around a lot of lies. People tend to believe this stuff.
We see that the Democrats have abandoned naming their hostile takeover of health care "KennedyCare". The thought of it driving off the bridge into the murky waters wasn't the image the Democrats wanted to present.
Could we stop with Sarah Palin now?  She is WAY past her 15 minutes of fame.
If President Obama doesn't give the speech of his life tonight and gets Joe and Jane America behind health care reform with the public option then he will fail utterly in his campaign promise to bring affordable health care to all.  I certainly wish him well and hope he can inspire the nation to get behind stopping big medical and insurance ripping off consumers for health care and insurance.

"Eric, how soon before your parole officer is allowed to remove your ankle monitor so you can venture out from your mother's basement into the light of day and apply for your first job?  Obammy says there are millions of shovel-ready positions.  God knows you are perfect at shoveling "stuff." "
Shovel this

Hey Shovel this - I dub thee "Lord of the Dung Heap" because all you have to shovel is crap.  Oh I'm self employed and don't need any shovel ready jobs, unlike you little socialist worker drone.  Better get back to work before your boss fires you.  I'm glad my comments frighten you.

Nobody has the guts to say where this is going: at the end of the day, what "reform" is going to amount to is a GIVEAWAY to the VERY stakeholders causing the trouble:  BIG INSURANCE.    It's clear now that individuals are going to be required to buy insurance.   What does that mean?  Many of Obama's biggest supporters (those under 40) are going to be REQUIRED to buy health insurance.    ALL that does is give Insurance companies what they want.   They SALIVATE at the thought that young people will be required to buy insurance OR they will get FINED.    And in exchange, what does big insurance give back?   NOTHING.   It's outrageous.
wow.  People are JUST NOW figuring out that Obie is ambiguous??????  That is his standard operating procedure.  Remain vague so that Gibbs can say "that's not what he meant."
I watched Keith Olbermanniac for about 10 minutes last night and before I turned it on I told my wife "Hey watch this clown. He gonna be putting some conservative down." Olbie didn't disappoint. He was off on Glenn Beck for outing Van Jones and took some shots at Sarah Palin ... as usual. Keith is one spiteful dude. No wonder his ratings are in the tank.
And no wonder all the libby's here on FR love him.
FRead: [B]ut instead hopes to explain to Joe and Jane that his health-care reform will 1) cover nearly everyone and 2) cut costs in the long run.

This isn't a plan or reform, these are proclamations. There is no plan in Congress today that covers nearly everyone. There is no plan that cuts costs in the short term, or the longer term (See CBO reports for details). Obama can give campaign speeches all he wants, it won't change the fact that what he talking about doing will not only cost a lot more money they we are paying now and it won't cover everyone.

Palin and her "death panels" are true.

Even the pro-abortion czar that Obie picked could be called head of a "death panel."

A new day.

Who knows what FALSE controversy the Right Wingnuts will come up with to divert attention from real issues?
No....we're NOT expecting, in detail, how to cure cancer.  But we ARE expecting, IN DETAIL, just how Barry's HCR will not increase the deficit.
The Gag of Six

The Health Care Reform package that the so called “gang of six” is nothing more than a pacifier for insurance companies and special interest groups. Perhaps I’m being cynical… but then again perhaps I’m not.

Food for thought; all of the drama leading up to the reveal of Max Bacus’s Health Care Reform plan (along with snake-in-the-Grassley and Enzi ) was nothing more than a ploy for the Republicans and Conservative Democrat (damn near Republican) to stage the hold out in the Committee meeting for the most opportune time as the August recess.

Staged Town Hall meetings, violent protest, right wing talk show host and the nutty buddy in Wasilla, all decided to jump on the trash truck of the Republican Party to smear the President and kill Health Care Reform.

All of it was a little too convenient in my opinion. The proposal that Max Bacus submitted was nothing more than toilet tissue that he should have kept for future proposes.

The "Gag of six" in my opinion should gag themselves with their lousy proposal. And to think that they are actually being paid with benefits and bonuses for the insurance companies.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader John Boehner will hold a news conference in the early afternoon to discuss what they see as the need for responsible, bipartisan health-care reform in advance of Obama’s address tonight.

Agent Orange Boner…. That’s right I agree.. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

The only thing this dynamic duo is good at is… sucking ALL the oxygen out of a room!

And yes… I’m still waiting for someone to explain WHY Sily Sarah is signing documents with the prefix Governor?  I say signing because you sure as heck know she didn’t write ONE word of that op-ed!
Will Obama be lecturing us about the red pill and the blue pill again? Will he be prescribing pain killers to a person that needs a pace maker? Will he accuse doctors of padding their profits by performing unneeded tonsillectomies and amputations? Who will be Obama's villian tonight?
That's so funny that there is a perception that the Supreme Court is too Liberal.  Just goes to show how stupid so many of our citizens are.  The SC is too conservative little dimwits.  Let's see how the SC rules on that Hillary propaganda movie that's nothing but a campaign ad for the party of sore losers.  Time to see if the SC will get corporate money out of politics.  If they don't then the SC is firmly in the pockets of the repugnant ones.

Time for StuporMax Baucus to give it up and just admit defeat for the Finance Committee coming up with a health care reform bill.  So sad that a few petty partisan hacks have stalled this bill only because they want to make Obama look bad and to preserve the big ripoff our private medical system.

I think Chris Dodd made the right decision to not take on the Health Committee chair.  He's better off staying in banking.

Pass Health Care Reform with the Public Option!
"ordinary voters" are sick of being talked down to....Obie can't hide his disdain for the Joes and Janes of the country....his sales spiel is getting old.....we don't want what he's selling.....
It is a fact

Regardless of what is said on this site by those against HCR most Americans know we need some type of Health Care / Insurance Reform.

More than 6 weeks John Boehner said the Republicans were only a couple days away from having a bill.

I would love to see their proposal. It is important for the debate and for the American people to have a choice and see what the conservative ideas are.
Okay Mr. President time to crank her up to redline and hold her there for a while. Get all you can get and then back off a hair when you have to so you don't blow her up in the first 10 laps this is a long race. Rubbing is racing and there has been a lot of sheet metal tore up in the last seven months. I have come to belive that most of the darn fools doing the rubbing would rather wreck you than win the race. This is what happens when you have more money than brains.Stick with them sir that engine has more rpms left in it than they will ever believe.Seeing some gray hair starting to appear leads me to believe that you are doing the best you can and that's good enough for me.
And what about energy security and climate change?  Senator Boxer will not be releasing her bill until later in the month.  Day after day, week after week, month after month, this is issue is getting backburnered to healthcare reform.

I agree healthcare reform is important - but so is energy security and climate change.

I believe we can walk and chew gum at the same time.  Let's move them both forward NOW!!!

And what about all the loyal Obama environment and energy staffers that have not been given positions in the Admininstration?  There are so many position open and so many talented people waiting to serve.
Obama isn't trying to save his socialized health care tonight. He's trying to save his presidency! Obama has totally bothced health care reform. Tonight he trys to get something, anything, through congress so he can pound his chest and say "I reformed health care!". Obama is getting less and less believable by the day, and his poll numbers will soon sink into the 30s.
No Plan obama (Sent Tuesday, September 08, 2009 10:14 AM)

I could answer every question you posed to me yesterday, but I would like for you to watch and listen to the President's speech tonight. Not with jaundiced bias and a hope for failure, but listen honestly as you would if Ronald Reagan were speaking, since I'm sure he is your political hero. That is my challenge to you and all your contemporaries who have no hope because your guy/gal didn't win. I challenge you to watch and learn from this great President who will be successful in getting a HCR bill passed.
To: Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Domenico Montanaro, and Ali Weinberg -

Excellent analysis of President Obama's speech tonight. We have a left and moderate wing of the Democratic Party. This is a party who will never be in lock step with each other, unlike the GOP. This is a good thing. Howard Dean's 50 state strategy worked. We were able to get democrats elected from red states. But they will never be liberals. They are conservatives. But we need them in order for the President to pass future legislation. If we turn Congress over to the GOP, nothing in this country will ever ever change.

Somehow us progressives have to find a middle ground going forward, just like President Obama has to do to get health care reform legislation passed.

Otherwise, say goodbye to the Democratic majority.

The insurance industry needs to be regulated. That's the bottom line.

Which one are you?
The benefit of a rainy Labor Day was that I was inside to see the President's speech and it reminded me what a compelling speaker he can be and, more importantly, that he knows what he's talking about.  He can get this done and I believe he will.  He didn't run for President to be mediocre--he ran to make a difference and, yes, change how things are done.  Will HCR be perfect?  I'm sure it won't but he has moved the discussion so that people recognize the need to reform and if some big steps are taken that will be a victory.
What a surprise that Quitter Palin has penned a clueless editorial in the Wall Street Urinal.  I guess she wants to get away from looking like an ancient teenager posting her witless drivel on Facebook.  Either way only a fool would take her seriously.  Let's not forget that Sinner Sarah ran her own death panel and killed 316 old Alaskans because she didn't want to pay for their care.

We don't need a Snowe job trigger option for a public option as that is a copout worse than co-ops.  What a waste trying to get one worthless vote from the dopes of nope that we Liberals have to compromise on our public option compromise from single payer.  If Obama and the Democrats lose this battle then we Liberals are going to need to find a new leader with a spine, someone like Anthony Weiner from New York.

There'd better be no mandatory insurance option for health care reform unless there's a strong public option.  If we can't have real competition and a good deal from the public option then Congress had better not sell us out to the insurance industry with a mandatory insurance plan.

Pass Health Care Reform with the Public Option!
I'm so tired of hearing Obama speak.  It has gotten to the point where his voice makes me cringe!

Also, enough about Sarah Palin. You people keep her in the news! if you want her to go away so bad then STOP COVERING HER!!
The "Hair-trigger" on the Public Option is just another wet dream for the liberals of the country. A Public Option is an unworkable plan. How do you have a Public Option ready to go if the trigger is ever pulled? All the infrastructure for the Public Option would have to be up and running and ready to go if conditions said it should be used. The lead time for doing that is years. So essentially the government is going to spend hundreds of billions of dollars getting ready for a Public Option that may never be used?

The Public Option trigger is pure fantasy, just something else for the nit-wit polititicans to waste their time on.

Blah, Blah, Blah. Another speech on Health Care. I don't know anybody who is even going to watch it. Of course I don't hang out with the panting liberals that spend all day posting on this site. The Tigers are in the middle of a pennant race and the game will be much more exciting to watch then Obie lying to America.
Obama's message tonight will be the same as all his previous messages:

Eat all you want, and still lose weight!

He proposes spending another trillion dollars, but claims that it will cut spending.

he proposes setting up a government bureaucracy, but claims that there will be no bureaucrats involved in your health care.

He proposes cutting billions from Medicare, but claims that there will be no cuts in Medicare.

He proposes mandates, but says he is against them.

He proposes fining people who do not have health insurance, but claims that this is not a tax increase, because, well, because it isn't a tax, per se.

He was against a public option before he was against it, before it was an integral part of reform before he could live without it before he couldn't.

He is a disaster and a fraud perpetrated on the American people by a complicit media.
Obama can talk all he wants, i'm not listening to his teleprompter guided speeches anymore. That's all they are, is speeches. There is not truth or substance in them anymore. These speeches are only designed to make the lemmings of our society "feel good" about the state of our country. Well, Obama, the lemmings are starting to wake up.
Keeef Trollberman and Maddcow will tell us what Berry really said as soon as their legs quit tingling...OOOoooohhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!  All we have to do is make sure there is no option and no trigger.  The weasal liberals will do anything to lie, cheat, steal to get their way though normally makes society worse which is why we are in so much trouble anyway.  Good luck SHEEP!!!
Obama is a joke. I am sure he means no harm, just trying to CHANGE things and in a very drastic way. What happened to America being a country of Freedom. All of a sudden he wants to do the healthcare act and does anybody realize that there won't be any healthcare competition our health care system will be government own. His "preaching" really does convince everyone. He is right nobody should be denied or over priced for their health care, but what about doctors is it fair that they spend years in school and spend thousands of dollars to maybe end up getting paid what a teacher does.
Sarah Palin is not herself writing these editorials and op-ed pieces.  There must be an adviser or staff member doing it for her -- couldn't someone find out?  There is too great a disconnect between what she says and what appears in print under her name.
GRAMMAR PLEASE! You are breaking my heart MSNBC -- It's "Whom" Obama Is Trying to Reach.  Please change the headline now!
I just read Eric from Salinas, CA and I am shocked he thinks this way. California has only 6 insurers to choose from, the State is bankrupt from too much liberal government spending, is loosing companies to neighboring States because of high tax rates and he wants more. You would make a great House Rep for your district.

I thought my blog about Obama and Van Jones was insightful and truthful. An opinion. I guess you saw it differently.
No student (after listening to Obama) came home in a zombie state repeating ("help the president").  In Kentucky (a very backward state-hence having Mitch McConnell), some students sat in the hallway at their schools rather than listen to the President.  Soem of the idiots that send post here do not seem to remember that when THE GOD Reagan was president, he talked to the students about tax cuts.  Of course Democrats got angry.  But one thing I can say is that in our party we do not have people in it that still think the world is flat, whereas the Republican party has Big Business & uneducated people (brains not included).  About health care, let's see how many of these same people keep on complaining about the rates of their insurnce plans, let's see how many of them FINALLY realize that this is what the President is trying to fix.  Ignorant people ALWAYS follow the ones that abuse them the most.  This country is being ruled by the bigoted lunatics.  We had d(8) years of that and these lemmings want more.  Obama's problem is that he thinks that all Americans are intelligent.  Recent actions should show him othewise.
First, can we stop the name-calling? It serves no ones cause. Don't shout. The louder your voice, the weaker your argument.
Second,we need health care reform. When a good health care insurance plan still leaves one $600 in debt for a kidney stone, or costs $1400 for dental care, something needs to change.
There is a common fallacy that many people fall into - the idea that in this country you do not have to wait for health care - unlike those with so-called 'socialist' systems. In this country it can take six months to see a gynecologist, and longer to see some specialists. Unless you are dying.
It is the uninsured who help to drive up the cost of health insurance - frequently turning to ERs for basic health care. We all pay the price for them already.
There is no 'death plan', but there should be planning for end of life. Do you want your body kept functioning with tubes and wires, or not? Your choice. There are no bureaucrats involved, just you and your doctor.
I understand these principles, why don't you?
Please refer to the President of the United States with the respect you would want those to show to the President of your choice. Show respect for the office, if nothing else.

Why hasn't anyone on the progressive side of this debate pointed out that, with our current health-care system, Insurance company CEOs are the ones occupying the spot between people and their doctors. These CEOs have one objective.... increase share value. As long as it is more profitable to deny claims and raise premiums, that is what they will do.
Personally, I'd rather have a governmaent official involved in my insurance than someone whose only focus is lining their pockets with my hard earned $$
Wake up America,Stop listening to the rhetoric, this is just another money grab for the government to use the funds as they see fit and control your lives even more. There have not been any written guarantee that you can keep your health plan. The cost will be poor health care across the board, more taxes and fees on small businesses therefore there will be more jobs lost. If we want reform then tort reform, and opening state lines for insurance competation should be done first and then clean up the fraud of the government programs of medicare and medicaid. The economy is hurting do you want to lose your job and have worst health care?
From Oklahoma we hear big government, socialist.  Do you even know what a socialist is?  It seems to me the right wouldn't know the difference between a  socialist, communist, fascist--they just lump them all into one anti-Obama, anti-democrat rant.  Fire and police departments, voluntary fire departments, schools, churches, DOT, are all socialistic--for the good of all.  As for instrusion in your life, the Bush administration's intruded into your life with illegal wire and e-mail taps, they targeted journalists and people with opposing views; it's what Nixon did by having the FBI investigate anti-war protesters including Sen John Kerry.  The GOP wants to interfere with personal choices and separation of church and state, they want to impose their views as everyones. No, the democrats don't intrude, the GOP does.

Chandler W.  Ditto.  I was so annoyed at Pat Buchanan again last night.  MSNBC, I know you try to be fair and give both sides but Buchanan is so Nixon era, his thinking so dated.  There are a number of good, thoughtful GOP analysts who would give credibility to the discussion, please sign one up to replace Buchanan.  Which reminds me everytime Tom Tancredo is on The Ed Show, I want to throw something at the TV because Tancredo really is a wild-eyed nut and Ed tries his best to get a reasonable comment but you can't get reasonable from fruitcake land.

The doctor that will be giving out the facts for the GOP rebuttal will be the only one to watch tonight.  Obama will be doing another rehash of his tired, worn out and highly inaccurate rambling points.
Wonder if MSNBC will be reporting on the BIG TEA Party that's going to be happening in DC this Sat?
One Czar down, more to go.
"It is a fact

Regardless of what is said on this site by those against HCR most Americans know we need some type of Health Care / Insurance Reform."

I guess I am one of those people who are against HCR.
Why should it be reformed? Why should working people pay for non working people?

There are reasons why social security and medicare are going broke.

If the president wants to reform anything he should reform welfare. Stop giving tax payer money to those who are able but just too lazy too work.

Stop giving people an incentive to stay home and maybe they will have to do the hard thing and get up like the rest of us and work.(maybe benefits and health insurance will come to those who work for it)

Is this common sense only to me?

work hard = okay money - give large portion of earned money to the lazy = :( and need for 2nd job!

no/work = free money + free insurance = Jackpot :)

Hey Obama sign me up!
