Rove for Rubio

Posted: Monday, October 05, 2009 1:40 PM by Chuck Todd

From NBC's Chuck Todd
Over the past few weeks, Florida GOP Gov. Charlie Crist has found himself being put on the defensive more and more in the primary thanks to the challenge by ex-state House Speaker Marco Rubio. While Crist has financially overwhelmed Rubio to date, there are many Republicans --  particularly those in Flordia that are close to former GOP Gov. Jeb Bush -- who have publicly become more comfortable airing their skepticism about Crist in public. One of those Republicans with close ties to the Bush family, Karl Rove, has signaled his preference with his wallet. Rove confirms to NBC News that he has contributed a $1000 to Rubio's campaign, the donation will be made public when Rubio files his next FEC report (due Oct. 15).

This comes on the heels of Jeb Bush's public signal that he plans to stay neutral in the Crist-Rubio primary; Many believe this is Jeb's way of quietly telling influential Florida Republicans that he'd prefer Rubio but doesn't want to alienate Crist since he's still the heavy favorite in the primary. For Rubio, he needs to show some viability and that begins with his next fundraising report. But the most important fundraising report might actually be by the end of the year when you'll truly be able to see how Rubio's been able to use the Jeb neutrality (support?) to his advantage. Remember, Jeb is to Florida Republicans what Reagan is to the party nationally, he's held in THAT high of regard.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported a Rove donation to Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's Texas gubernatorial campaign. Rove has not given Hutchison any money. It was simply an incorrect fact that should not have been included.

JOBS:
Anyone notice the return of the "LADDERS" ads? You know, the snobby headhunters who only care about placing $100K and above candidates? All the old ads and no new ones for sure, but they've been gone quite awhile. And now they're back-viewed them in the NY metro area and on CNN. (I noticed because I always thought they were kind of snotty-guess with the recession, they got theirs-but they're Baaaaaack. Dinosaurs and all.)
It's the little things.
Deborah, Greenlawn, NY

Imagine that, some people make over $100K a year. You'd think by now Congress would have passed a law preventing that from happening. On the bright side, at least you liberals now have some cash-cows you tax to death.

Personally, I enjoy the dialogue, debate based on fact, and the conversation that appears on FR.  Chandler, you are spot-on that those on the right continue to use Rovian tactics and some on the left have resorted to using right-wing tactics as well.

Ron Indiana (Sent Monday, October 05, 2009 10:10 AM)
_______________

As always Ron… Spot On!  I tried to post repeatedly Friday about this… but I guess FR wasn’t in the mood for some critiquing! Below is just an except of what I attempted to get on the board.

I can only speak for myself… but when some of the MOST outlandish LIES, pure hatred & racism is directed towards our President… I have a hard time not throwing it right back in their smirking faces!  Sometimes ‘shucky darn’ just doesn’t cut it with the righties!

Take a look at last Friday, even something as beautiful & joyous as the birth of Domenico’s new son didn’t STOP a couple of jerk off’s from making rude, snide remarks!  And FR posted them seemingly oblivious to the utter lack of civility!

I was raised to treat people with the same level of respect others treat you with… (which by last count… the right wing loons are STUCK at ZERO)!

As others have commented about the level of discourse here…  I too have witnessed the Rovian tactics for the last 8 years and learned (quite well I might add) that sometimes when you’re drawn into ‘mud wrestling match’… you’re gonna get your hands dirty!

And after 8 years Bush & Co. and the damn near total destruction of OUR country… these right wing nuts have NO ROOM to talk!  After all we didn’t hear a ‘peep’ out of ANY of them when their ‘guy’ was driving the bus off the cliff full speed ahead!

So we should take their advice again… WHY?

And I’ll be damned if I’ll let them hijack this board!  That’s why I was so saddening when Greg, P signed off… not only will I miss his input… but in a way he allowed them to win!

And we ALL know there aren’t as many of ‘them’ as it seems….
Why hasn't Obama spoken or shown his face in Chicago about the beating death of the teen honor student? This is a disgrace for not only him as a person but as the first black president to ignore it. He seemed more occupied on the olympics than speaking to the youth of America on this tragedy.

It's inexcusable, a disgrace and shameful. We expected more even from a liberal, but he is a democrat so that explains it I guess.

Disgusting. Shame on you Mr. Obama. Don't try to make excuses for him.
Marcus D., Chicago

I think Obama has had his fill of Chicago for quite a while now. Obama won't show his face in Chicago until next summer at the earliest. CNN though did get some of the black so called "leaders" together to talk about the beating. They got their typical set of talking heads to discuss it with CNN leftist (Are there any other kinds at CNN?) Don Lemon hosting, and was joined by Chicago activist/leftest/marxist Fr. Pfleger, and the ChiSunTimes racist in chief columnist Mary Mitchell.  All on the panel agreed that guns should be outlawed (they are) and that it was someone else's fault (the whites) and that "maybe this is the call for some action", like the previous 976 murders in the Chicago weren't enough all ready.

Lemon and his panel have no clue to what the problem is, and less of a clue about how to fix it. Welfare has been worse then slavery to the black race in this country. At least with slavery the family unit somewhat was kept together. With Welfare the father is no where to be seen and the most positive role model men have is their gang leader.
BTW, this is not the first GOP primary where Rove has signaled his preference via his checkbook. Rove has given money to GOP Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison in her campaign to unseat GOP Gov. Rick Perry in Texas.

Splendid!

The 'turd blossom' sure is spreading his manure pretty thick these days!

Of COURSE he wouldn't support Crist... as Crist is ONE of the few SANE Repubicant's in a party of what's otherwise nothing but right wing lunatics!

I can actually listen when Crist speaks... don't always agree with him... but at least he hasn't dove off the 'deep' end!

At least...not yet...
The Senate needs some real conservatives like Rubio and less RHINOs like McCain, Graham, Snowe,Collins.

One step at a time though. One step at a time.
This is a common strategy for conservatives--defeat the moderate Republican; run your conservative candidate...and lose in the general.

In this case, Crist looks pretty popular and may be hard to beat. Just because Rove laid out $1,000 doesn't mean Rubio will get elected.  Thirteen months is light years away and there is plenty of time for it to become ugly.
Why isn't Rove in jail?
Florida seniors see the death squad in Obama's health care bill, and it's the government running health care that is the true 'death squad'. Republicans win Florida in a landslde for the next ten or so elections.
How much has Soros contributed to Obie and the DNC and all those other liberal outfits?
Isn't this fun? Debating about what Republican will win next year. Lots of that going on these days.
Rove might be the smartest guy in politics out there today. The man is a wizard. Soon enough Obama and the Democrats will feel the Wrath of Rove.
As American's wonder when Corparations will begin to hire back layed off worker's, Republican's continue to CHEER the FACT that they rolled over for Chicken George while America fell apart & President Obama has'nt been able to clean up THIER MESS in 9 months.

Sadly Democrats in Congress don't have the Brains to know that unless they come together & pass much needed regulations to Stop the continued take over by Corparate America, voters will no other Option for Leading America out of the Abyss. Voter's already know Republican's are of No use in deciding how to best use our Tax dollars for maximum effect. They are to busy running around Scared of thier Shadows to do Anything Productive.

David Brooks struck a Nerve within the GOP & All the Radio Preacher's of Hate & The Downfall of President Obama are Screaming Foul today. We'll show David Brooks just how much he knows!

Preach on Rush, Beck, Sean, Savage, Preach on Brother, yall don't have as far to go to Destroy the Republican's as you once did.

Preach On !
mmm, mmm, mm. Barrack-Hussain-Obama.
what Rove is doing is making sure that the senate doesn't have an extra moderate like Snowe and the other one from Maine.
Christie was the first republican to praise Obama for the stimiilus beside arnold from California.
My best guess is that daffy Duck would be 50-50 against Perry, since the have a lot in common. And for any Bush to be popular anywhere is a real question. But stealing elections and running the country into the ground while little was playing president must play well with the base ,and Big Bro saved his ass in 2000,with alittle help from his friends, you know that woman, what was her name Susan Harris?Ballots are still floating on shore. And Karl should save some of his cash for his defense fund,Karl how do you look in orange,as bad as Boner?
The fact that Florida's GOPers think Jeb is any good at all undercuts any claims they may make to intelligence.
WOW.........

They just don't get it... Crist is one in a few from the GOP who can change the demographic's in the party.  Well looks like the Dem's will stay in power.  the base just don't get it.
The Rovian "Kiss of Death".  Crist is thanking his lucky stars
I was almost pleased that Rove said he would not be supporting Perry - that is until it was made clear he was supporting Hutchinson.

While I put Perry in the same mold as Blagoyavech(?) and GWB - no substance whatsoever - it scares me to death that Hutchinson might be running our state soon - My hope, is that they divide the Republicans enough for the Democrat challenger to win - unfortunately for us, the Democrat is Tom Scheiffer, GWB's old business partner with the Rangers.

BUT, at least there is hope of something different with him - With Perry you get a blowhard, corporatist & successionist

Hutchinson you get nothing but a firm believer in the Military Industrial Complex - who thinks we should be making tools of war year round, every year - and this of course, ALWAYS leads to wars because we wouldn't want to waste our investment, would we? I mean we could just make up reasons to go to war with that mentality...

Scary stuff, espcially considering the economy in several smaller cities thrive on these kind of jobs, such as Bell Helicopter, etc
"Bottom line: if you believe the Taliban and al Qaeda are one in the same, you’re for more troops to Afghanistan. If you believe the Taliban is not a DIRECT national security threat to the U.S., you are probably leaning toward a more targeted strategy against al Qaeda."

Uh, wait a minute.  I thought it was the Taliban that gave safe harbor to Al Qaeda and therefore helped perpetrate the first attack on American soil since WWII.  I voted for this President because it seemed like he understood that...now we don't care if they take over again?  That's like saying we should have left the Nazis in control since Hitler was dead...only this is worse because Taliban's Hitler (Osama) is still alive.
Last Friday I was reading other people’s blogs and was amazed at how many people were cheering that our President was not successful in getting the Olympics to come to Chicago.

In the days and weeks after 9/11 Americans, Democrats and Republicans alike, stood behind Bush 43; we were a nation of one.  We gave Bush time to sort through what had happened and how to counter-attack.  Americans were willing to help those hurt in the 9/11 attack.

Then I began to wonder…if we were attacked tomorrow, would Americans stand behind our President?

Ron Indiana

Read your own post Ron. It was the Olympics. Are you that back woods when you give your next example? It was the Olympics, not an attack on America. You're late seeing how Dem's were nailing Bush. Upset your stomach then Ron?

If America is attacked? You need to get out of the sticks in Indiana and see the light. If we are attacked we stand, we fight, we support. But the olympics, and forcing things down our throats....Nope, not the same.

The Olympics?
MSNBC's First Read..."*** Doing Something: As some predicted, the president's failed Olympics effort is providing the context for a bigger look at the president's accomplishments. And the first organization to weigh in? None other than "SNL."  Their skit is providing the context for a storyline about the various unfinished promises made by candidate Obama. While amusing and somewhat devastating, the skit is actually a reminder of this bigger fact: the president has a lot of balls in the air, in fact, they are ALL in the air at this point: health care, the economy (jobs, stimulus and bailouts), Afghanistan, Iraq, climate change, Iran, Russia relations, China relations... and the list could go on. What the "SNL" skit also underscores is that this president desperately needs a win and needs a win soon. A lot of initiatives begin with great promise of accomplishment but getting them across the finish line is proving difficult, whether it's Iran (nuclear inspections don't begin now until LATE October; yet another delay by the Iranians) to health care (so many missed passage deadlines).  That's what made the Olympics effort so demoralizing for this White House, it underscored the difficulty this president is having on closing the deal. ....."

What is TRULY underscored by the SNL skit...the first one that highlights his failure to do ANYTHING, and the first one in ANY VENUE to be "critical" of him in any way, shape or form, even if only for the sake of "humor...is the fact that it comes almost 9 full months after he took office.
NBC's SNL, Leno, Letterman, and the comedy shows on cable started in on Bush only DAYS after he took office back in '01'. (Not that I'm a Bush fan, because I'm not. But it's interesting to note that they started chiding HIM before he had failed at ANYTHING. Obama has failed at almost EVERYTHING since he took office, and the media...news, comedy, late night night entertainment etc. allows him to do it without any criticism, or mention of it in any way shape or form.)
It is about time Obama got treated just like any other politician who FAILS, and in particular one who has FAILED as badly as he has.
Like I said, I'm not a fan of George Bush...but the media ripped into him right from the start and Obama has been treated with kid gloves.
Republicans a4re not afraid to challenge their front runners
(Apparently Jeb Bush doesn't want competition in Florida)

Why shouldn't Democrats ??

Bennet in Colo, Speter in PA, Bayh in Ind and Lincoln in LA ALL need primary competition
They need Progressive Democrats to knowk them off the ballot !!

All these people are holding up HCR with a Public Otpion (or were until some of them got Primary competition)

who in theit right mind would want the endorsement of karl rove and jeb bush? that is of course, unless you are part of the neo-con movement that the american voters turned their back on the last two election cycles.keep marginalizing yourselves boys.
Let them fight it out. The more they spend on killing each other the less they will have for a general election opponent. Anybody that Rove and Bush favor I would be very leery of. Although Jeb wasn't a terribly bad Gov., his big brother gave the family a bad name. Part of that bad name came through the actions and advice of Karl Rove.
One good thought if thr Republicans want the Senate and House back just vote for the public option and wipe some of those snobby Senator's and a few House members nack into civilian life.
I have lived in Florida for 46 years -
I have never heard of Marco Rubio!!!

He has no chance against Crist - unless Crist goes on a date night with Letterman and his pack of young interns. (teenage girls)

Letterman is a pedophile - the only person that saw this was Sarah Palin - now we know why she didn't want him around her children!
As a Republican, I really question the strategy I am seeing. We are pushing away moderate Republicans like Crist and embracing those to the more extreme-right. They may gets lots of votes (or more importantly money) in the GOP primary, but what mainstream Americans will want right wing extremists representing their county, city, or state? Basically this strategy will ensure Democratic victories when it comes to the main race. Given this GOP adoration of Palin types and hearing the Rush Limbaugh "anything Obama does is evil" talking points, I am drifting farther away from the Republican party. I proudly voted for Obama (my first D vote ever!) and will continue to vote Democrat until the GOP decides to clean up it's act, actually present ideas (not just say no) and display a more respectful tone. Yelling 'You Lie' was the last straw! No wonder they are becoming the party of older white males. When will they learn? I mean, do they really think a Rove endorsement is a good thing?

If you are feeling like me, join me with intelligent discussion at RepublicansforObama.org
Who cares what Rove thinks?  He will probably be in jail by the election anyway.  Yes a true republican - get rid of those moderates; especially in the south where stupidity reigns.
I could give a rat's ass about who Karl Rove supports as governor in Florida!! What I DO give a rat's ass about is when this Congress and President Obama are going to investigate his many crimes against this country!!

I find it absolutely appalling, inexcusable and unforgivable that President Obama has not, and apparently will not, investigate this criminal and the rest of BushCo!!

Shame on them!! I wanted change and accountability; so far we have zero!! As a lifetime democrat, I am ashamed that these criminals will escape punishment for their crimes!! If we lose in 2010 and/or 2012, it's deserved!! For shame!!

We have soldiers dying in Afghanistan and Iraq because of these criminals and they must pay!! When progressives and liberals, like me, vote Green Party in 2010/2012, perhaps the democrats will finally learn; I'm disgusted!!

Why isn't Rove in jail?

Go figure your logic. It's thinking like this that has Obama in the boxed in situation he is in today. Warped liberal logic and perception of what the American taxpayer is concerned about. Bush had his faults in 8 years, no doubt, but where you compared Bush as driving a bus...........Barack Hussein Obama is driving a top fuel dragster over the cliff and beyond in a mere 8 months. Hold on tight, who's in your wallet?
Florida seniors see the death squad in Obama's health care bill, and it's the government running health care that is the true 'death squad'. Republicans win Florida in a landslde for the next ten or so elections.

Oh this is so sad - did you hear? Sarah P. lost her job. And guess what? She also lost her health care insurance. Oh this is so sad now she can join the 15 million that have lost their jobs and health care insurance. Oh wait - she might have to sell her house? Oh the poor dear but she never supported Americans that are in the same way - should I feel sorry for her.

I do because no AMERICAN should have to go through this.
Feisty, I would never even think of hijacking something that so obviously belongs and answers to you.  Why would I even want it?

Besides, which of the right wing wackos has expressed the slightest interest in hijacking First Read?  Your paranoic, irrational fear of having your toy hijacked is up there with right-wingers who have issues with President Obama's birth certificate.

You really should be more appreciative of the intrepid minority of right wingers here and on the only cable news channel that is identifiably right of center.

Both appear to be major reasons for living for the Feisty Redhead.
Rubio has a lot of grassroots support among party faithful. Many county Republican executive committees have conducted straw polls in which he has emerged the overwhelming favorite over Crist. I think Crist shouldn't take anything for granted. And as a Democrat, I'm rooting for Rubio. Easier to beat in the general than Crist would be.

If she saw he was a pedophile, why didn't she just come out and say that?  Wasn't she the person who gives it to ya straight...from main street america?  I don't remeber seeing that headline.
Ron Indiana, what country are you living in? Conservatives defeat moderates and then lose the election? How'd RINO McCain work out for you, you phony.
Ron, I do not applaud the fact we didn't get the Olympics.

I don't applaud President Obama's ill-considered actions to try to influence a decision that was already self-evident; that we wouldn't get the Olympics because it wasn't really our turn.

It makes perfect non-political sense for a South American country to host the Olympics.

If the purpose was to make the President look wooden and ineffectual, then the trip was a success.  Apparently it was all just a set-up to bash George Bush once again.  That would make sense, but at what cost?

Janie Wells, Florida (Sent Monday, October 05, 2009 3:59 PM)

Janie, if you think Rove is correct and has done nothing illegal, I suggest you go back over the last 8 years and do a little research.  I don't have enough time to list all he's done, but I'm sure if you google it, it will come up.
Because it's not illegal to be correct.
Janie Wells, Florida (Sent Monday, October 05, 2009 3:59 PM)

Is it illegal to be stupid?
