Pawlenty to visit Iowa

Minnesota Governor and RGA vice chairman Tim Pawlenty will be the featured guest at the Iowa Republican party's "signature fall event," a further indication that he is exploring a 2012 presidential bid.

The event, to be held this Saturday, is the latest in a series of moves by Pawlenty that raise his national profile. He officially opened his political action committee, the Freedom First PAC, last week and has rounded up several former George W. Bush campaign advisers.

His appearance in the state that holds the first presidential primary follows those of several other high-profile Republicans, including ex-Senator Rick Santorum (PA) last week and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal last November.

Iowa GOP Chairman Matt Strawn said about Pawlenty's appearance, "Governor Pawlenty is an innovative, conservative leader and, as Iowa Republicans prepare for a robust gubernatorial primary election and nationally-watched general election for governor, his message of balanced budgets, lower taxes, and market-based reforms for health care and education will resonate with all Iowans."

According to The Hill, the Iowa visit will be Pawlenty's first since 2008, and the "first time he will go with an agenda other than stumping for another presidential contender." The Hill also reports that tickets for the annual event have been dropped to $25 to make the event open to more than just the party's wealthy donors.

Regardless of party, it's kind of sad that folks have to start running for President 3 years out . . . that's just too long.

From previous post:

""Bill, do you deny the health insurance companies pay their executives ENORMOUS salaries?
Nashville_fan (Sent Wednesday, October 07, 2009 11:21 AM)

Sigh. If you don't like what a company does, then don't buy their stocks or bonds. Bonuses are paid by every company, just why are you demonizing the insurance companies? Oh, wait, I know, because that greases the skids for Obama and the Dems to try and nationalize the insurance companies, just like Obama did with the US car makers (who both will be out of business in 6-8 months). "

I need you to pay attention . . . bonuses are not the problem . . . bonuses tied to the number of health insurance policies you drop is the problem. Are you here to defend that?

Substantial salaries is not the problem . . . substantial salaries for doing nothing more than taking my money to pay a doctor when you feel like it . . . something I can do myself for cheaper . . . is the problem.

Having no competition so you can charge whatever you want with no consequence is the problem.

So save the "Wall Street whine" for the uniformed . . . because WE THE PEOPLE just paid $787 billion to bail out the all-knowing bums on Wall Street . . . yet you folks begrudge folks who actually WORK in Detroit getting some of the same "government cheese" that you've been abusing for years.

It don't get much more hypocritical than that.

Pawlenty has rounded up several former George W. Bush campaign advisers.

Big mistake! Bush barely won in either race.
Pawlenty will make a great President. He'll have a huge mess to clean up from Obama, but he's just the man that can do it.
If Tim Pawlenty can clean up all the problems caused by a goofball wrestler, he can certainly clean up all the problems caused by a goofball community organizer.
I am getting the feeling that our country has somewhere along the way forgotten the pride we always took in being the best we can be. Whether it be our politicians, health care, education, our airlines industry, our media, infrastructure and on and on.

Have people just gotten lazy?

Pat, Boston, MA

Pat:

Excellent observation! In his world travels, Obama has all but given away Americas exceptional-ism. He apologizes for Americas past "discretions" and "mistakes", but refuses to tell the world why America is good. He tells other countries to not depend on America, he states that as countries "We are all equal". That just isn't true. America is the greatest country of all time. It's earned that distinction through it's innovations, and it's blood on the battlefields. And Obama has thrown it all away. I think it's the "we're all equal" mantra the left wingers of society have chanted for decades that makes Obama say those things. And no, no we Americans are not equal with other countries, we are better.

And to answer your question "Have people just gotten lazy?". In a sense, yes. We've elected a man, and a government, that got there on image and not on substance. We got a lot of sizzle, but very little steak. If we were more diligent, we would have uncovered what a phony Obama is before the election. But in the end, that's just politics, and we've made blunders bigger then Obama and survived quite well. Other then that, people/Americans are not lazy. For the most part, Americans get up, go to work, work hard, and go home. Americans take care of their families, their neighbors, and their communities. In short, Americans take care of their business. Americans care about their place in the world and understand we have built a country that is truly exceptional, regardless of what others may say, and that is something for which we should be very proud.

Fox News

yes, you commandeered more television sets to one cable 'news' program; but did you realize you lost out to Nickelodeon AND Nick at Night?  My six year old really 'WON', wouldn't you agree?

Way to go SpongeBob!  Happy 10th Birthday!
Gonna go schuck some corn, then gonna go schuck some Demmycrats.
PS.  Paw Paw will have a hard time dragging them in at that price.  I don't think he'd get 'volumes' if it were free; but what do I know?  I'm just a 'neighbor'.

they can afford it now that they received all that money from the health insurance lobby.
See Timmy,Dead eye kept his word.See awhilwe bacxk Timmy was all set to run for the Senate seat that opened up after the Wellstone crash and his death. But then Dead eye stepped in and told Timmy he would not be running for the seat and Norm Coleman would be,see shooter didn;t think Timmy was the right man for the job,to boring for the Buseney ticket.Well Timmy is still boring,he still ran Sota into the bround, the bridge fell on his watch, the state is broke,on his watch, and now that the Bushies are out of office Dead eye,and little Georgie have offered all of there rat pack to help Timmy,so fly little starling, fly fly away,to Iowa, where the best thing coming out of the state is 35-E going north.
Obama's failures are bringing out the Republican first teamers from the top of the ticket to the bottom of the ticket. Looks like easy pickings for the Republicans. Even dogcatchers will be running as Republicans next year.
Josh Larson, FL: '...It's 3 am and the phone rings..........who do you want making the decision and taking that phone call?...'

Certainly not someone who sings:

And not someone who can
'See Russia from my front porch'

I think we have the right man making decisions for us

Pity we had amateur hour for the previous 8 years
8 years of the Reckless Chicken Hawks

Pawlenty and Grassley: maybe a stand-up comedy act. Invite Palin,Romney and the Huck as well. Most Hawkeye fans would rather watch Iowa beat-up on those lowly Hoosiers. It' OK Jody, us Hoosiers are used to it.

Greg P. I'm so glad you, a fellow Hoosier, back in the mud..  The support we give to one another is invaluable.

Bill: Thank you for keeping up with what's happening in Kentucky. Rumors have it that law enforcement are purposefully remaining quiet.  Thanks for reading my comments.  Yep, facts are the name of the game.  Technically you have a point: the facts have not been completely reported.  However, I'll stand by my assessment.
Nashville_fan (Sent Wednesday, October 07, 2009 11:21 AM): “Bill, how is it a "service" to pay my doctor bills with a SMALL FRACTION of the money that I have already paid you?”

Where in the world do you get this drivel???  Would you care to provide the board with a credible source that supports your outrageous statement that health insurance companies only spend a ‘small fraction’ of their revenues paying claims?

Doesn't appear he'll be working long for Meg (I don't vote but want to be Governor of CA) Whitman...lol!

What a difference between the Reps and Dems. Limousine Liberals want at least $2500 to sit down with one of their tax cheats.
FRL Iowa GOP Chairman Matt Strawn said about Pawlenty's appearance, "Governor Pawlenty is an innovative, conservative leader
----------------------------------

"Innovative conservative" is an oxymoron. The only innovations they've produced in recent years are new lies to scare and  bamboozle average Americans.

BTW: "Oxymoron" is _not_ a reference to the oxycontin-popping Rush Limbaugh, although it ought to be.
I am hopeful that Ron, Ind is correct that the base issue of choice will be replaced by Afghanistan for at least the 2010 midterm elections, but I'm not so sure. The religious right will never let this issue go, as it represents their stranglehold over the Republican Party. That said, I still believe, as most of my liberal friends, that no one can legislate morality.

While I believe President Obama needs to listen to his generals in regard to both wars, I wish he would give some weight to the opinion to the grunts on the ground. Those I have talked to say the opposition in Afghanistan are incredibly competent, regardless of their training or equipment. I saw a short time ago, a British Harrier fighter jet, about to crash with the pilot, having ditched, in the air, his parachute already opening. The Taliban ground forces were in the picture, their meager AK-47s in hand. With all of our military might, how is it we can not defeat such an opposition? The answer lies in the fact that those Afghanistan forces fighting on our side, with superior training and equipment, do not stand a chance against the Taliban. Until these people have the will to survive and defeat the enemy, our presence will always be a necessity...

Jay Leno, of all people raised an interesting point the other night. When an Afghan farmer said he was forced to grow poppy fields in order to feed his family, Leno asked, "How about trying to grow some food?" How about we find appropriate cash crops for the Afghanistan environment and help educate and provide economic assistance to help the farmers get the crops started? Remember the old adage that providing a fish will feed a man for a day, but a fishing pole will feed a family for a life...
No doubt that any one mentioned as a Republican candidate can do nothing. Obama has proven he is fully capable and accountable for doing nothing. So any one on the Republican side can do at a minimum better than Obama has done which is nothing.

It doesn't take a lot to be better than doing nothing particularly if they don't try to spend and tax.

Tick Tock
Tick Tock

It's 3 am and the phone rings..........who do you want making the decision and taking that phone call?

I know… I know… Sarah Palin!
Des Moines Register: "In July, organizers of the event had said they had tried to line up former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the 2008 vice presidential nominee."

TPAW: Your Second Pick for the Prom
"The Hill also reports that tickets for the annual event have been dropped to $25 to make the event open to more than just the party's wealthy donors."

TPAW: America's Cheap Date
Hmm, balanced budgets, lower taxes, market-based reforms for health care?  Wasn't that everything George Bush and the Republicans said they would do in the last 8 years?  That worked great huh?
Elephant fights can be deadly. In this case the more the merrier.
"his message of balanced budgets, lower taxes, and market-based reforms for health care and education"

Please, I believe that experiment is what brought on the mayhem and despair we are currently experiencing.
Michelle O is great!
Maybe Grassly Could take a few million he got from the Insurance Lobbyist and buy up those 25 dollar tickets, who in there right mind would pay money to see paint dry.Or Grassly grow?
Red Headed Broad:
"Health Care for all American's = NO! NO! NO! "

****************

Just to be clear this was a swipe at Republicans. Don't want anyone to get the wrong idea from Red.

So Red, just why do all Americans "Deserve Health Insurance"?

See the problem with your premise is "Health Care" . All americans and illegals are guaranteed Health care. Just go to an ER.

I work and I get health insurance. It's called a benefit. Benefits are what people get when they "DESERVE" and "EARN" them.

Hey Red, You really need to re-read your last 50 or so posts and think about the garbage you are throwing on this board.
Aww isn't that sweet - another Repub thinks he knock Obama out.

Intellectually, Pawlenty can't even sniff Obama's jock, but looking their history....Reagan, GWB, McCain and Palin, I guess intelligence isn't a virture revered by Republicans.

They only want to vote against their own interest by giving the Top  1% taxcuts while they continue to layoff their family memebers - dolts!
Frosty Red, Anita _ss, Beverly, why don't you give up your love for Sara Palin. Until you can get your wide rears into winning something like State Championship, Prom Queen, Mayor, Governor, you should give up on your anger at her because you are underachievers. Smack talkers no doubt, but like your hero, Barrack Hussien Obama Mmmmm-MMmmmmm-Mmmmmm
no results. Come on Anita, you know what I mean, like fishing without any bait on your hook. Nothing.

More of the Same.......
Turning to Afghanistan, Gen. Petraeus agreed with General Stanley McChrystal’s assessment of the Afghan situation as “serious but doable,” that “requires a sustained substantial commitment.”

-----------------------------------------

What a shame he didn't get that "sustained substantial commitment" from the Bush Administration.
Pete - Albany, NY

Pete - we did get that commitment - that's why we won. Now it's Barack "Cut-and-Run" Obama's turn to step it up a notch.
J. Weiner, NY (Sent Wednesday, October 07, 2009 11:47 AM)

--------------------------------------------

Oh, yeah...Petraeus got a "sustained commitment"...

...it was for Iraq and not Afghanistan.

You remember Iraq, right?  It was the war of choice...the one they lied to get is into (WMDs will be a slam dunk) and then scramble to find excuses for after they didn't find any WMDs.

What did the Bushies do about Afghanistan once Iraq was under way?

...I mean other than victimize an honorable man by fabricating a fairy tale story of Pat Tillman's death to cover up the fact that he was killed by friendly fire?
We've known this for a while now- the man is clearly gearing up to run. Let's not discuss it further. This is boring.

Check out my blog at http://thepoliticrat.blogspot.com
The "one person dies every 12 minutes from lack of health insurance" claim is dubious. There are many competing sources of information that place this claim in significant doubt.  I reject the primary source of this number.

Eric, Salinas is watching the FR site every day to see if people miss him.  I predict a grand re-entrance.

Maybe he has morphed into Pammy PeterFornia permanently.

Or, like I suggested one other time, he was paroled and doesn't have access to a computer at the halfway house.

Nashville, don't let anyone talk you into leaving.  You're your own person and shouldn't let the syncophants influence your decision.

Besides, you're a star on the Huffington Post and your influence is expanding far and wide.  You should be a happy person.

Feisty:  As Clara would say:  Whatever.

As for being off-topic, the 2012 presidential primaries just aren't on the list yet.
Obama has failed, over and over, to meet his promises. Be it foreign policy, health care, energy costs, jobs, it is just lie after stinking lie. The Republicans are no picnic. I do not like Goroge Bush and I still want an accounting of the TARP money just I want an accounting of the Stimulus and Auto Bailout money from Obama. I won't see either.

Where are the jobs? Where is the federal push to open new businesses to create jobs? Nowhere! The Dems hate business and capitalism. The govt basically rins GM and now Pontiac and Saturn are gone along with all of the workers and dealers. Chrysler dealers got slammed and even worse, they were slammed on their political contribution history. Don't talk about that hey lefties!

Where are the jobs Obama, Pelosi and Reid? Over nine months of this comedy show and unemployment and foreclosures continue to rise.

All the anti-Bush snark from the prennial Obama cheerlaeders on MSNBC First Read won't change the facts:

Yo Yo BHO! How many more jobs have to go!

US Dept Of Labor September 25, 2009
In August, employers took 2,690 mass layoff actions involving 259,307 workers. Mass layoff events increased by 533 and associated initial claims by 52,516 from July. Over the year, events increased by 803 and initial claims by 70,356. Year-to-date events and initial claims reached new program highs.

US Dept Of Labor  October 01, 2009
For the eighth consecutive month, all of the nation's 372 metropolitan areas had over-the-year unemployment rate increases.

10/1 AP News- The Labor Department said Thursday that initial claims for unemployment insurance rose to a seasonally adjusted 551,000 from 534,000 in the previous week.

10/1 The Institute for Supply Management said its index of manufacturing activity in September slipped to 52.6 from 52.9 in August, well below analysts' expectations of 54.

10/1 The owners of Saturn dealerships across the country joined the list of the auto industry's stunned and jilted Wednesday when they learned that efforts to save the car brand had failed. General Motors now plans to shut them all down, and Saturn will disappear.

10/4/09 WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan predicts that the unemployment rate will push past 10 percent and stay at that level for a while.

"Pretty awful" is how Greenspan describes Friday's report that the unemployment rate has risen to 9.8 percent.

He says the growing number of Americans who have been out of work six months or longer is of particular concern because jobless workers lose skills over such a long period.

10/2/09 WASHINGTON (AP) — New orders to U.S. factories fell in August by the largest amount in five months, as American manufacturers struggle to emerge from the recession.

10/2/09 In a separate report, the Labor Department said unemployment rose to a 26-year high of 9.8 percent in September as employers cut a net total of 263,000 jobs, far more than had been expected.

The Commerce Department said Friday that demand for manufactured goods dropped 0.8 percent, much worse than the 0.7 percent gain that economists had expected. The August decline reflected plunging demand for commercial aircraft, a category that surged in July.

Yo Yo BHO! How many more jobs have to go!

Capitalism is dead in America. Thanks lefties. How about some jobs Barry? Not just govt jobs, real jobs!

aaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnddddddd said differently, the strategist are having the following conversation, "... it wouldnt' look good on camera to only have 15 high-rollers in the shot so we need a way to get the room packed...drop it down to $25 and be sure to invite the entire senior center on us (we can just say a blurb or two about healthcare and then bill that stupid socialized Medicare for reimbursement)  Hey that reminds me, but sure to add into his speech critical language about the proposed cuts to Medicare...bwahahahahahah)..."
Bang up job there Barack. How was Copenhagen? It only cost the taxpayers $1.4 million to fly you over there and Daley can add another $50 million to the $300 million debt of the City of Chicago. But who is counting! Hope and Change will save the day! Tax the rich!

DOn't mistake disappointment with Democrats in congress as support for Republicans.  This only means that the Democratic primaries will be quite interesting.  Us independents will remember the 12 year old antics of the Republicans and not vote for them, even if it means holding our noses and voting for the incumbent Democrat.

Two excellent books should be read by every righty that comments here:
'Big Lies' by Joe Conason
'The Lies of George W. Bush' by David Corn (Not sure I got the title right but it's close)

FR, I am not a shill for these two authors but you have never posted any of my posts that mention these two books.  Please post this as they righties on here really need an education about their heros and the party they are supporting.  Thanks.
I will pay Iowa $500 to keep him.
