*** Back on the trail: With 15 days until this year’s Election Day, and with nearly 400 days until next year’s, President Obama will spend much of this week and next week focusing on 2009 and 2010. On Tuesday, he hits a fundraiser for Bill Owens, the Democratic candidate in the special congressional election in New York to replace former Rep. John McHugh (R), who is now serving in the administration. On Wednesday, Obama heads to New Jersey to participate in a rally for incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine (Vice President Biden attends his own rally today for Corzine at 1:00 pm ET in Edison, NJ). On Friday, the president appears at separate fundraisers for Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, both of whom are up for re-election next year and both of whom are extremely vulnerable. Then, next week, Obama will campaign for Creigh Deeds in Virginia. That’s at least five campaign/fundraising appearances for the president in the next two weeks. Interestingly, all of this week's appearances are about rallying the Dem base, not swaying independent voters. Corzine is in a three-way race in which he needs Dems only to win; Owens is in a three-way in NY-23, needing just Dems to win; Patrick also is going to be facing a three-way; and then there's Dodd who, in a very blue state, simply needs Dems to rally back to his side.

*** Remember, the force is with you -- or not: Speaking of 2010, Dan Balz sets some smart C.W. for next year’s midterms. “Three forces threaten Democrats in the 2010 elections: populist anger on the right, disaffection in the middle and potential disillusionment on the left,” Balz wrote. In a way, some of the key races of 2009 provide a glimpse of these issues. We're seeing populist anger on the right rise up in the NY-23 special congressional election; we're seeing disaffection in the middle taking place in Virginia’s gubernatorial contest; and we're seeing some limited potential disillusionment on the left in New Jersey, where indie candidate Chris Daggett has gotten the support (for instance) of the Sierra Club.

*** Shades of ’92? But those three forces don’t necessarily mean that Republicans will benefit next year. "People are more frightened than they were in '93 and '94,” Newt Gingrich told Balz in his piece. "Both by the radicalism of the administration and by the economy." But Newt added, “They're more skeptical of Republicans than they were in '93 and '94. The aftereffect of '06 and '08 is there's not a rush to Republicans." Indeed, 2010 could end up feeling a lot like 1992, when populist anger and public frustration at the deficit spawned the political phenomenon that became Ross Perot, which turned out to benefit Bill Clinton and hurt Bush 41 in that year’s presidential contest -- but then benefited Republicans on the House and Senate level. In fact, the REAL beneficiaries in '92 were NEW candidates, reform-minded candidates. That’s why Daggett’s third-party candidacy in New Jersey is worth watching two weeks from now. Does he end up getting enough of the vote to catapult Corzine to victory, even though the incumbent governor’s numbers remain stuck in the high 30s/low 40s? If this happens, Democrats shouldn’t take comfort, though: Corzine would have won because disaffected voters opted neither for the Dem nor the Republican -- but instead for the “none of the above” guy (remember Monty Brewster in “Brewster’s Millions”?) And in a midterm election, disaffected voters can do three things: stay home, fire the incumbent, or turn to a third party (if available).

*** Tough enough? A narrative that dogged Obama in 2007/2008 -- but which he overcame in winning the Democratic nomination and then the presidency -- is beginning to resurface again: Is he tough enough? In Friday's National Journal, Kirk Victor wrote that “a narrative is emerging among some columnists, pundits, and academics across the political spectrum that Obama’s low-key, cool, cerebral style, while reassuring on many levels, lacks the punch that is sometimes needed to advance an agenda in Washington, and in a perilous world.” And on Sunday, Maureen Dowd added, “F.D.R. asked to be judged by the enemies he had made. But what of a president who strives to keep everyone in some vague middle ground of satisfaction or dissatisfaction, without ever offending anyone?” This growing narrative is coming mostly from the left. Why? Of course, as Doris Kearns Goodwin would probably remind us, Abraham Lincoln faced similar criticism (many abolitionists and Radical Republicans didn’t think Lincoln’s opposition to slavery went far enough while president). Then again, when the chips were down, Lincoln was certainly tough (the Emancipation Proclamation, demanding full surrender from the South at the end of the Civil War).

*** Desperately seeking compromise: Ironically, conservatives are making headway with their supporters by making the case Obama IS tough and radical. So this truly is about those on the left unhappy with the president's addiction to compromise. As we've all witnessed, the president is always in search of the elusive middle ground, whether on health care (public OPTIONAL), Afghanistan (something less than 40,000 more troops?), or the stimulus (lots more in tax cuts than Dems wanted).

*** Howdy, partner: Turning to Afghanistan, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel made some news yesterday, when he said that the Obama administration would postpone any decision to send more combat troops into that country until the disputed election there had been resolved. “‘It would be reckless to make a decision on U.S. troop level if, in fact, you haven't done a thorough analysis of whether, in fact, there's an Afghan partner ready to fill that space that the U.S. troops would create and become a true partner in governing the Afghan country," Emanuel said on CNN, per the Washington Post. Meanwhile, a report on the fraud allegations coming from Afghanistan is supposed to be released today. “The results of investigations by the UN-backed Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) will form the basis of a decision on whether Afghanistan can finally declare a new president or must go to the polls for a second time.” And news this morning indicates Karzai is testing out a new campaign theme that could make the president's decision even more difficult: His supporters are calling the election commission report a "foreign interference." If Karzai does NOT accept the results, then what?

*** Drone wars: Staying with Afghanistan, the New Yorker's Jane Mayer has an intriguing piece on the increased predator drone attacks since Obama took office. It's a campaign promise he made, to some controversy, during the primary campaign, by the way. Writes Mayer: "It’s easy to understand the appeal of a ‘push-button’ approach to fighting Al Qaeda, but the embrace of the Predator program has occurred with remarkably little public discussion, given that it represents a radically new and geographically unbounded use of state-sanctioned lethal force. And, because of the C.I.A. program’s secrecy, there is no visible system of accountability in place, despite the fact that the agency has killed many civilians inside a politically fragile, nuclear-armed country with which the U.S. is not at war. Should something go wrong in the C.I.A.’s program -- last month, the Air Force lost control of a drone and had to shoot it down over Afghanistan -- it’s unclear what the consequences would be."

*** The glass ceiling: In conjunction with the NBC/MSNBC focus this week on women in the workplace and society overall, we here at First Read plan to examine women from various political angles. Today, we take a look today at the last barrier for female U.S. politicians: the presidency. It's not just the fact that there has not been a woman president yet; it's the fact that there have been so few women presidential CANDIDATES. Not only did it take the two major parties 24 years to see a woman make it on a national ticket (1984 to 2008), it's still not obvious any women will be serious candidates in 2012 or 2016. Sure, there's lots of speculation surrounding Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton. But after them? (There was a dearth of women candidates for president between '84 and '08 as well, with Elizabeth Dole being the only serious candidate and she didn't make it to Iowa). One of the main reasons why we’ve had so few female presidential possibilities is because not enough women have become governors, which still remains the best stepping stone to the presidency. But this could change after 2010. If Kay Bailey Hutchison (R) wins the Texas governor’s race, if Alex Sink (D) wins in Florida, and if Meg Whitman (R) wins in California, that could elevate both into the discussion for 2012 and beyond… By the way, don’t miss the “Meet the Press” discussion of Shriver’s report.

*** Where things stand: According to Rutgers University’s Center for American Women and Politics, there are six female governors (Jan Brewer of AZ, Jodi Rell of CT, Linda Lingle of HI, Jennifer Granholm of MI, Bev Perdue of NC, and Chris Gregoire of WA), 17 women U.S. senators (Lisa Murkowski of AK, Blanche Lincoln of AR, Barbara Boxer of CA, Dianne Feinstein of CA, Mary Landrieu of LA, Susan Collins of ME, Olympia Snowe of ME, Barbara Mikulski of MD, Debbie Stabenow of MI, Amy Klobuchar of MN, Claire McCaskill of MO, Kay Hagan of NC, Jeanne Shaheen of NH, Kirsten Gillibrand of NY, Kay Bailey Hutchison of TX, Patty Murray of WA, and Maria Cantwell of WA), and there are 73 congresswoman.

*** 2009 watch: Finally, turning to the upcoming gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia, Jon Corzine (not surprisingly) picked up the New York Times’ endorsement (Daggett finished "second" in the editorial), while Creigh Deeds (again, not surprisingly) got the Washington Post’s nod (though Post went out of its way to give back-handed praise to Bob McDonnell, perhaps a nod to the inevitable?). Meanwhile, McDonnell’s campaign touted the endorsement it got from Hampton Roads’ Daily Press, which backed Tim Kaine in ’05. By the way, was Sunday's Politico piece on the Virginia race and how Deeds to come back really just the first of what could be many pre-bituaries?

FR: In his weekly Saturday address, President Obama focused on health care and went after insurance companies and cable news.

How weak is this? Obama is nothing but a rank amateur community organizer. The man is President of the United States, and he's acting like some punk in the projects. He's firing on a cable news organization? How thin-skinned is that? Maybe you have some sub-ordinates or political operatives hacks take that message public, but the POTUS is making the claim? Weak. Really weak.
Looks like Obama now has two accomplishments. He took out a couple of 15 year old pirates, and now he's allowed marijuana "strictly for medical purposes" only. That's Obama though, playing to his base voters.
Afghanistan: Obama just does not have a clue, does he?
Karzai says he wants some of Obama's stimulus money, seeing it's not doing any good in the US, Karzai says he wants a shot at that money to create some jobs in Afghanistan.
From last week:

The U.S. government's budget deficit for Fiscal Year 2009 increased to a record $1.42 trillion, which according to Bloomberg is the deepest recession since the 1930s. The Treasury Department attributed the majority of the deficit to the previous administration of George W. Bush.

-----------

Does Obama take responsibility for anything?
Did Mika on Morning Joe today say MSNBC is "balanced" when compared with Fox? I know the wind whistles through her ears, but she has really gone off the reservation if she thinks, MSNBC is in any way "balanced".
Obie is in perpetual campaign mode.  That's all he knows how to do.  I wish he would spend as much time creating all those jobs he promised.
It is hilarious to read the posts of the Obama amen-choir and the daily rants of Anita, MSierra, Nashville, Jawillie, Feisty, Eric, Democrat Soldier and the other Trotskyites.

The irony is they bemoan the evils of capitalism and big business on a website run by Microsoft and General Electric, two of the largest, most avaricious multinationals on earth. Microsoft and GE have pushed thousands of US jobs offshore to India and China.

John “Neutron Jack” Welch of GE was a notorious union buster. Remember, the Trade Unions are the #1 PAC contributor to the Democratic Party.

Obamaphiles also loath the military and want to gut defense spending to pay for social welfare giveaways, again, ironically they shout for this on the Internet, an invention of DARPA, driven by defense research spending.

GE, owner of NBC, is a leading supplier of military jet engines, nuclear reactors and fossil fuel power plants.

You Dems talk a good show about being for the working man and for unions and high paying jobs with benefits then you turn around and pander to the Environmentalists and Trial Lawyers who are out to eviscerate American business through absurd lawsuits and onerous regulations. You want all the comforts of 21st century technological society but none of the detritus or headaches. Remember, the Trial Lawyers are the #2 PAC contributor to the Democratic Party.

Democrats said Bush and Cheney shredded the Constitution and took away our liberties but hypocritically your leftist civil libertarian and media friends push the Politically Correct agenda. The censorship of PC speech is always telling people what words and symbols they can and can’t use because they may “offend” some self-proclaimed victim group. Same for Hate Crimes. Ordinary crimes, if committed against certain classes of citizens, even though a punishment is already codified in law, require extra punishment if committed against certain special “victims”. Will Barack and Sotomayor and the ACLU craft a “Special” Bill of Rights that only applies to certain people? Politically Correct means shredding the Constitution.

Through MSNBC, GE and Microsoft will give you lefties an orange crate to stand upon and scream about economic injustice. Then when you are tired out, you can go home. Jeff Immelt and Jack Welch of GE will still get their tens of millions in compensation and Bill Gates will enjoy his billions.

The 1960’s are long over but rant on anyway hippies!
Nice to see WH communications director Anita Dunn, you know, the one that for some unknown reason is attacking Fox News, turns out Anita's big hero is none other then Mao Tse-Tung, a guy that makes Hitler look like Mother Teresa.

And what is with people named "Anita"?
Obama is built for campaigning not governing, managing or being a leader.

He's already begun his campaign for 2012 while we have a host of problems he can not get results on.

I'm talking about practice, talking about practice, not the real game, when it counts, talking about practice.

Obama built for the run not the game, when it counts.

Bench Obama, let Looney VP Biden try for a while. He thinks he can do it better.
First Read Says: President Obama will spend much of this week and next week focusing on 2009 and 2010. On Tuesday, he hits a fundraiser for  . . . .

Rather then campaigning, why doesn't Obama stick around at work and do what the people elected him to do by creating those 4 million jobs he said he was going to create?
FR: Speaking of 2010, Dan Balz sets some smart C.W. for next year’s midterms. “Three forces threaten Democrats in the 2010 elections: populist anger on the right, disaffection in the middle and potential disillusionment on the left,”

The Left is more delusional then disillusioned. I doubt they score very high on any form of intelligence tests.
Chuck, et al at FR, do you ever ask others at NBC news what tone you convey with your posts?  If I did not know better, I would honestly report this was a Fox News website.
Gingrich stating Obama "Radicalism" is laughable considing he's done everything in his power to delegate too much to congress and keep hoping for bi-partisanship in a climate thats obstructionist in nature all for regaining their power inorder to give back  to the oligarchy, to the wlthiest, corporations, and religious fanatics to once and for  all stack federal judges and supreme court for generations to come . Virginia is about to elect one of them as governor.
*** Desperately seeking compromise: Ironically, conservatives are making headway with their supporters by making the case Obama IS tough and radical. So this truly is about those on the left unhappy with the president's addiction to compromise. As we've all witnessed, the president is always in search of the elusive middle ground, . . .

---------------

Middle ground? Obama? Too funny. Just what so called "middle ground" has Obama every searched for in his entire his life? In case it's not clear by now, Obama is as far Left politician that we have ever seen. Obama has compromised on his socialist agenda exactly ZERO times for his entire life. Obama doesn't know anything about compromise, and that's why his HCR schemes are failing so badly.
Values the GOP and fellow right wingnuts stand for are:

- GOP is for the right to bear arms but against the right to healthcare.  If you accidentally shoot yourself, your are on your own.

- GOP is for pro file but against healthcare for children.  You must have that baby but after that you are on your own.

- GOP is for contracts that feed prisoners 3 times a day but against contracts for school lunch programs.  If you want free lunch, go to prison.

- GOP is for wars that kill people in other countries, but against policies that make the life of americans better.

What type of water do these guys drink?
FRead -- Today, we take a look today at the last barrier for female U.S. politicians: the presidency

That will be taken care of in 2012 with President Palin. A stuffed animal will be able to win the presidency away from Obama by that time.
*** Drone wars: Staying with Afghanistan

-------------
So what exact progress has Obie made in Afgahinsitan? The Bush administration was constantly succeeeding with either capturing or killing high ranking terrorists. Obama seems to be just killing camels and making craters in the ground.
'...So this truly is about those on the left unhappy with the president's addiction to compromise. As we've all witnessed, the president is always in search of the elusive middle ground...'

This is the problem
Obama iss too soft
This was a problem during the primaries

The President has to get a spine
DEMAND a Public Option !!

Take on Republican lies

President Obama is who he is
He's not gonna be anyone else
Compromise is the thing
Is Obama tough enough? When it come to beating back the Republicans he has been TOO nice, especially when it comes to the HCR proposals - he DEFINTELY needs to get tougher on that front.

Foreign Policy - just right - he has shown the world we can be worked with and that we won't be bullies any longer.

Republicans are gonna cry he "apologizes" for the US, etc - they fail to mention the reasons this was neccessary. All that damn sabre rattling by Bush, Wofowiitz, Rumsfeld and Cheney produced 2 - repeat TWO - new nuclear powers - Iran and North Korea. Hopefully we can contain it, but his "shoot'em from the hip" strategy scared the beejeezus out of the rest of the world, and I am sure they felt they needed to protect themselves from HIM and the US.

Obama is just going to punt on Afghanistan. He's dragging his decision out with these stupid meetings of his for a few weeks more to buy time to figure out how to sell it to the country. Now he's raising this Karzai is corrupt issue as one more stall tactic. So the war that "We must fight" will turn into the war Obama surrenders.
Is he tough enough? The fact that he survived Hurricane Hillary and the Clinton Machine is proof that President Obama is not only tough, but also a brilliant strategist.

I would much prefer to have a President that doesn't have to convince others (and himself?)of how tough he is by making ineffective and often disasterous decisions like GWB did. Thank God the days of Cowboy Deplomacy are long gone and the era of careful thought and evaluation are the methodology used to lead the country.

President Obama is "addicted to compromise"?

lol lol lol lol

How DARE the President try to govern the nation by using good ideas from both sides . . . THE NERVE!

lol lol lol lol

The media DEMANDS gridlock and partisan bickering!

lol lol lol lol

You folks are truly AMAZING with your "analysis"! :)

Keep up the great work Mr. President, WE THE PEOPLE -like the way you get things done in spite of all the nitpickers trying to score political points at America's expense!

Thanks for helping to stabilize the economy, providing relief to the currently unemployed (extended benefits, government subsidies to offset sky high COBRA payments), overseeing HISTORIC progress on health reform, and taking the time to craft a STRATEGY for Afghanistan!

You are working hard for the folks who elected you, and it has not gone unnoticed! :)

P.S. Does anyone in the Republican Party want to grab a mop and help clean up the mess they made? We sure could use the help!
"...the president's addiction to compromise..."

Can't...control...myself.  Need...to...have... middle...ground.  MUST...COMPROMISE...NOW!

Everything about Obama is a complete fraud, even his HOPE picture is a copyright infringement and outright theft!

10/16/09 NEW YORK – Shepard Fairey's claim that he had the right to use a news photo to create his famous Barack Obama "HOPE" poster became a widely watched court case about fair use that now appears to have nearly collapsed.
By Friday night, his attorneys — led by Anthony Falzone, executive director of the Fair Use Project at Stanford University — had withdrawn from the case and said the artist had misled them by fabricating information and destroying other material.
Fairey himself admitted that he didn't use The Associated Press photo of Obama seated next to actor George Clooney he originally said his work was based on — which he claimed would have been covered under "fair use," the legal claim that copyrighted work can be used without having to pay for it.
Instead he used a picture the news organization has claimed was his source — a solo picture of the future president seemingly closer to the iconic red, white and blue image of Obama, underlined with the caption "HOPE." Fairey said that he tried to cover up his error by submitting false images and deleting others.
"Shepard Fairey has now been forced to admit that he sued the AP under false pretenses by lying about which AP photograph he used," said AP vice president and general counsel Srinandan R. Kasi. "Mr. Fairey has also now admitted to the AP that he fabricated and attempted to destroy other evidence in an effort to bolster his fair use case and cover up his previous lies and omissions."
*** Howdy, partner: Turning to Afghanistan, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel made some news yesterday, when he said that the Obama administration would postpone any decision to send more combat troops into that country until the disputed election there had been resolved.

==============

What a joke. What, is Emanuel just figuring out that Afghanistan is corrupt? Making this statement, Emanuel is saying that McCrystals request for troops will never happen. Obie might as well get Michelle working on making that White flag he'll be waving soon.
American's out of work and losing their homes should revolt against the holding back of stimulus funds for the purpose of benefiting Democrats during the 2010 elections.

This is injustice at it's best and PURE GREED on the part of elected officials and the DNC to manipulate the public like this.

Selfish, thoughtless and greedy leadership by Democrats who are in control

Democrats, the party for the people? More like the party of manipulation and deceit of their supports who continue to believe they have their best interests at heart. DNC, the party for the foolish.
"I'm going to have all the negotiations around a big table," Obama said at an appearance in Chester, Va., repeating an assertion he made many times. He said the discussions would be "televised on C-SPAN, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies."

Say what??????????????????????
Obama is about a tough as cheap old lawn-chair and he folds like one too. "Wimp" doesn't even begin to describe Obama. He probably spends half his time in the Oval Office hiding under his desk.
Kevin of Iowa-Get your facts straight. It was eight years of neglect by the Shrub and  his merrymen of Chickenhawks that dropped this fiasco on Obama desk.
Go Hawkeyes.

Doesn't matter whether republican or democrat, they all help with campaigns.  No doubt the right will be criticizing while forgetting how busy Bush was doing the same thing--selective memory.  The president can get plenty of work done and still slip in a speech here and there.

Although it is just opinion, it puzzles me that after EIGHT awful years of Bush and GOP rule, people would so easily give up and think the republicans might be better if given another chance.  It is also shallow thinking to believe that any party or president can undo the damage in a year or two that took decades to cause.  More selective memory, forgetting the massive debts, the two wars, the unfunded trillions spent by the GOP and what do we have to show for it--high unemployment, our troops still fighting, and the poor and middle classes hurting.  I won't forget the harm done and have no doubt, the democrats will be reminding voters next year.

Good old Newt.  The radicalism of this administration?  What a jerk but his point about people being skeptical of the GOP is probably right.  Radicalis is the GOP whether forcing evangelical views on every American, the contempt for the constitution, habeas corpus, the willingness to fight wars at huge costs but not a dime to help We the People but plenty of dollars for big business and the wealthiest 10% of us.  Typical GOP strategy, scare people with fear that the democrats are radical.

That reminds me, Pam, San Pedro--enjoyed your analysis of the liberal battles for the good of all and the republican lack of perception about why they are better off.

The Afghan election is all the more reason for Pres Obama to be deliberative in forming a new strategy.  Let the critics whine but take your time.  The lives of our troops are at stake, along with the billions more of treasure we don't have.

Iowa is particularly bad about electing women.  There are none in the State Houses or Washington.  Not sure why but it is true.  Few women even run for office outside of local city elections.

Here we go again, is Pres Obama tough enough.  I believe the media and pundits took us down this road for two campaign years.  Just because someone doesn't yell or threaten the opposition does NOT mean they are not tough enough.  We watched Obama throughout the campaign and many of us kept thinking he should really fire back at the opposition only to discover that the opposition invariably shot themselves in the foot.  And the opposition is still doing that, look at the HCR debate, the wild town halls, the outrageous death panels and the birthers and then the sensible, logical people look at the craziness and think--we WANT a public option, the nuts are against it so it must be good.
..against the right to healthcare.

Exactly where in the Constitution or Bill of Rights is that called out?
With Obie having a 49% approval with 43% stating that they "might" vote for him again along with the sharply declining approval for the democrats in congress we're now looking at a one term lame duck in the making.

Um, Lynn. . . Fox News has the right to their own opinions, but NOT their own facts.

There is no constitutional right to LIE, even if the  "media" feels that is their right.

I notice in your comment, you conveniently gloss over all the lies that have been told by Fox News . . . why is the President required to sit back and let these folks take to the airwaves and lie?

Does Obama take responsibility for anything?

NO, NO, you need to ask the question, will george bush take any responsibility for mess, in all since president Obama took office, this guy had not said shit, to either defend his self against what is being said, or take responsibility for the deficets, recession, FEMA and Katriina, the Iraq war, and the war in Afghanistan. so instead of asking if the president will take responsibility, ask your full of crap self when will the former president come out of hiding and fess up to the real G D mess.
its easy for people like you to pass the ball off, because its easy,to blame the new guy when the previous guy ruined everything, surplus, deficets, 2 wars that were managed very bad. so ask your self, Stan Jenkins, Melro Park, CA who are you crapping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. Does anyone in the Republican Party want to grab a mop and help clean up the mess they made? We sure could use the help!
Nashville_fan

Dem's were making the laws since 06 so they bear some responsibility too correct?

My wife could fix everything at our house if I told her money is no object. Spend what you need even if we don't have it.

So what is it that Obama has done that has impressed folks in TN. Titans are winless since he came on board, that's one I'll give you.
Dear Pete Roleum:

lol

Seems like you got every stereotype and cliche in your post that you could . . . didn't see any facts though . . . holler at me when you find some of those! :)

Love and kisses to you and yours!
it looks like everyone has not gotten the full picture yet. Obama wants something from the banks, gee what could that be? maybe, and i am just guessing, that he needs them to start helping with the recovery, like well here's a novel idea, start lending money to small business.it seems our banks have lost their way and obama is just trying to help them get back on track.
Politics is a dirty business and most women I know wouldn't want to get into politics anyway. The way boys and girls have been reared seems to make such dirty competition less desirable for females. That, of course, can change. Right now the only woman who could be a real contender for the White House is Hillary Clinton and I don't believe she is going to run. That said, there is probably some young woman congressional representative or Senator, or a governor, who may emerge as a possible Presidential candidate in the future.
P.S. It was Reagan and Ollie North who armed the current Iranian regime but if we "talk" with them, we are emboldening them - LOL

How do you spell hypocrisy : G - O - P!!!
Did you Know?

.......That the Bush white house forbade appearances on MSNBC?

OR
.......That freedom of speech also applies to the freedom of 'non-speech'?
Does Obama take responsibility for anything?
Stan Jenkins, Melro Park, CA (Sent Monday, October 19, 2009 9:34 AM)

___________
Yes.  He got the croked, Me First, Republicans out of office.
I think the main obstacle for the Democratic party and President Obama in 2010 and 2012 is the issue of jobs and unemployment.  I understand that employment is a lagging indicator of a recovery but at some point that won't be enough for people to hear.  I think the administration needs to focus more on explaining how the jobs will be created.  The Republicans are starting to pick up on this.  I understand that President Obama didn't create the economy and that he has done a lot to stop the free fall we were in and stabilize things but going forward I think we will hear a lot about the employment statistics.
Obama and his rubber-stamp Democrat controlled Congress more than TRIPLED the federal debt in just ten months but still unemployment, foreclosures and bank failures are RISING under Obama and the Democrats.

10/16/09 Reuters, NY– Bank of America Corp posted a $1 billion quarterly loss on Friday as consumer credit woes eclipsed investment banking earnings, underlining why the bank remains on a government respirator. The nation's largest bank received two taxpayer bailouts totaling $45 billion after acquiring broker Merrill Lynch & Co and mortgage lender Countrywide Financial Corp at the height of the financial crisis last year. It says it wants to start repaying the money but has not yet done so.

Bank of America's results further dampened the euphoria kicked off by JPMorgan Chase & Co's JPM.N stellar earnings report on Wednesday and indicated a steep climb ahead for banks before they can declare the worst of the financial crisis is over. "Investors are getting reminded that we have a ways to go to get through the credit cycle," said John McDonald, an analyst at Sanford C Bernstein in New York. "There's still much room for improvement." Credit losses on its consumer loans are eating into Bank of America's results as it tries to raise capital. It suffered $9.6 billion in credit losses in the third quarter, up from $4.4 billion a year earlier.

A recent report by a congressional oversight panel highlighted the changing nature of the housing crisis by suggesting that the Obama administration's sweeping anti-foreclosure initiative might not be suited to address the mortgage delinquency epidemic as it exists today.

The initial portion of the foreclosure mess was triggered in large part by over-leveraged borrowers who got in over their heads with resetting mortgage products and homes they couldn't really afford. But today, as the unemployment rate heads for 10 percent, a growing number of borrowers with good credit are heading into foreclosure after losing their jobs.

However, the Obama administration's housing rescue "was not designed to address foreclosures caused by unemployment, which now appears to be a central cause of nonpayment," the panel said in the October 9 report. "THE FORECLOSURE CRISIS HAS MOVED BEYOND SUBPRIME MORTGAGES AND INTO THE PRIME MORTGAGE MARKET. It increasingly appears that [the Obama administration's housing rescue] is targeted at the housing crisis as it existed six months ago, rather than as it exists right now."

Last week, real estate company Zillow released some figures that further demonstrate the troubling evolution of the housing crisis, as an increasing number of upper-tier homes are now heading into foreclosure. At the peak of the real estate market back in 2006, homes in the top third of the property value spectrum made up just 16 percent of foreclosures nationwide, Zillow says.

But by July of this year, this most expensive segment of the market accounted for 30 percent of home foreclosures. "That means that top-tier homes make up almost twice the proportion of foreclosures as they did just three years ago," Zillow Chief Economist Stan Humphries said in a statement accompanying the data.

Dude.

How can you say there should be NO stimulus out of one side or your mouth, and then say its not being spent fast enough out of the other side of your mouth?

Huh?

Hell, the Republicans would still have everyone waiting for "market based solutions", also known as tax-cuts for the rich, to "trickle down".

Put a sock in it.

I'm still waiting for some signs of disgust from the right over how wall street got trillions in bailouts and are giving out huge bonuses to boot...but the righties still crab about GM and the stimulus...go figure
How sad,,,all the rank Amateurs who blog here, you know the ones that are always first to spread there days worth of BS and Rush talking points. There all so easy to spot, first they are ashamed of there real name, second they must be ashamed of where they live,my guess is Mommys basement, they never have any facts or proof of what Rush tells them to say, they act like he is telling them facts, and they always use name calling, and attack and try to out insult those that have a totally different view from there's,never debate, but always screaming and kicking and whinning like school children.
P.S. Does anyone in the Republican Party want to grab a mop and help clean up the mess they made? We sure could use the help!

So, instead of helping to clean up the mess, and acknowledging YOUR role in it (also known as "personal responsibility"), you are gonna say that someone else helped make the mess too?

How old are you, like 10?

lol lol lol lol

P.S. Did you play the "Titans suck" card?

That was a low blow, but on this we agree . . . lol!

Is He tough enough? well I don't know that it 's germaine to the disscusion but let's look at history. Was FDR tough enough?Well look at how he accomplished much of what he did. He was I think a master of reading the public and gently shoving circumstances in that direction. He was the master pragmatist. Many of his signature programs were actually originated with the team he assembled and only by these folks showing that they could push the iniitive with his support. He didn't get into the weeds but used his forum to push the general agenda. They did the heavy lifting behind the scenes while he took the arrows out front. Lend Lease was developed because he did not see a clear concensus on war at that time but still saw the need to provide as much aid as he possibly could and isolationists still sued him over that. This President seems to have to do both the up front and behind the scenes work himself and I can't figure if it is by inclination or by circumstance. On A. Biden seems to be trying to help and on economics and financial reform he seems to have a couple of smart folks including a few member's of Congress. The Health care initive seems to rest entireley with him. He may be falling into the trap that many young manager's fall into which is think that noone else is going to be able to get the result's I can so I have to do it myself. It is to early to tell if this is what is happening or not and whether or not the obstructions that are being placed on appointments, etc are contributing factors but if he is as smart as I think he is it's not going to take much longer for corrective action to be taken. It's easy to critise right now but we are moving forward and while it may not fit everybodies style or expectations it is movement and that represents progress from where we were and what we had before
What type of water do these guys drink?
New Wave (Sent Monday, October 19, 2009 9:47 AM)

The kind that causes them to fixate on Telepromters and birth certificates, I'd guess, New Wave. Or maybe the kind that makes 'em fall in love with corporate welfare paid for by the taxes paid by ordianry folks and hate any kind of welfare that helps people that actually need a hand up in this country.  You know- "Me Firsters".
Scroll up and down today's posts.  It's not hard to see which ones they are.
