Obama to aid small businesses

Posted: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 11:26 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Athena Jones
Per an administration official, President Obama tomorrow will visit a small business in Maryland, where he will announce a package of initiatives that will increase credit to small businesses.

The proposal will increase the caps for existing Small Business Administration loans and give smaller banks better access to TARP funding to encourage more lending to small business.

"Obama to aid small businesses"

Isn't this what the $800 billion Stimulus bill was supposed to do?
Just where does the money come from? Oh, that's right, China.
Janet, Graham, NC:

How 'bout all of you against Government run Health Care accept a waiver to refuse your Social Security and Medicare that most of you are probably already getting now...

------------

Won't need a waiver Janet. Both programs are going broke. Waste, corruption, lack of innovation, are all killing these government entitlements. Anyone under 50 should not expect those programs to be available when they retire, they both will have gone bankrupt by then. All that money each person paid in during their working life, 15% for SS (you pay half, your employer the other half) and 2% or so for Medicare, will be all gone. Poof!
This sounds like a promising idea . . . can't wait to hear more!

The lie that reported Obama would televise his health care reform negotiations, but didn't? The lie that was reported that Obama would not sign legislation with earmarks, but then he did? So what lies are you talking about?"

Um, Lynn . . . you don’t get to make up your own facts either.

I find it most interesting that you chose to print my entire post . . . EXCEPT for the link to the Fox News lies . . . how very clever of you! lol

Since I am sure it was just an oversight on your part, I will post the link again for your convenience:

At this link they address one of the questions you asked:

“The lie where Obama Communications Directory Anita Dunn's favorite political philosopher is Mao?”

If you took the time to read the link I provided, you would have found this:

Beck, Special Report cropped Dunn quote to falsely claim she said Mao was "the man she turns to most"

“Continuing Fox News' witch hunt against members of the Obama administration, both Glenn Beck and Special Report misleadingly cropped White House communications director Anita Dunn's remarks at a high school graduation ceremony to falsely claim that she was, in Beck's words, "proclaiming Mao [Zedong] as ... the man that she turns to most." In fact, Dunn actually said that Mao and Mother Theresa were "the two people that I turn to most to basically deliver a simple point, which is, you're going to make choices".”

http://mediamatters.org/research/200910190052

and this

GOP strategist Ralph Reed approvingly cited Mao, Viet Cong

Reed reportedly cited Mao approvingly. A 1992 Seattle Times article reported that Republican strategist and former Christian Coalition director Ralph Reed said in an "interview with The Phoenix Gazette" that "Mao Tse-Tung said politics is war without bloodshed. Clearly, there are some metaphors that sit nicely with politics."

And this

Bush recommended Mao bio to adviser Karl Rove
Rove: President Bush "encouraged me to read a Mao biography."

From Rove's December 26, 2008, Wall Street Journal column:

“We recommended volumes to each other (for example, he encouraged me to read a Mao biography; I suggested a book on Reconstruction's unhappy end). We discussed the books and wrote thank-you notes to some authors.”

http://mediamatters.org/research/200910160001

There are many other current lies and half truths at the links provided . . . take a peek!

As for the other “lies” you wrote, is it your contention that if Fox News says one true thing in the course of the day, that is fair compensation for the remaining lies and half truths?

Your attempt at misdirection is comical. If you want to “debate” with me, bring facts please . . . otherwise, let’s not waste each other’s time.

P.S. If the President says he is going to close Gitmo within a year, and a year has not passed yet, then how is that a lie? A little eager aren’t ya? lol

P.S.S. What is your brilliant suggestion for the government to create jobs while spending no money?

Where are the links verifying the job loss numbers you posted . . . also, what has President Obama done in the past 9 months to “lose” jobs? How can the President be doing nothing and everything all at once Lynn?

P.S.S.S. Van Jones resigned and President Obama doesn’t run ACORN, so why you wanna talk about that? To distract from Fox News lies? How many jobs does that conversation create?

P.S.S.S.S. If the President suggests that the health care negotiations be televised, and the people participating in those negotiations don’t want it to be televised, what do you suggest he do about that Lynn? Is that a lie or a suggestion that was discarded? And why does it matter either way?
Haters will say that President is doing doing significant because the Robber Barons and Lying Fox News will tout their FOX-FICATIONs  to brainwash the "dopes of nope" with  the Bu$%%^^^^^ !

Obama doesn't seem to understand, loaning a small business more money won't help them. There is no business to be had because the Keynesian economics of the Obama administration is not working. You can't keep taking money from the producers of the country and give it to the non-productive people and expect the economy to recover. But that it is what Obama is doing. Sure, it works in theory, in the classroom, on the chalkboard, but in reality it fails like it is failing today.
Is there anyone that Obama doesn't want to help? Other then the American taxpayer.
The first delivery of 25,000 mops goes out next week.
Without increased economic fairness across all of our financial transactions, I fear the gap between the super-rich and the very poor will only grow.

If we don't address this, then the sight of angry mobs attacking Wall Street financiers and health insurance executives becomes a real possibility.
Obama is the Dr. Jack Kevorkian of the American economy. Anything he does kills off another 100,000 jobs.

Nashville:

PSSSSTT! I've got a secret for you.

You're a seriously weak apologist for Anita Dunn.

Your counters, particularly the Ralph Reed quote, are absurd. The suggestion that to read a Mao biography is on a par with Anita Dunn's comment is, in one of your favorite words, laughable.

If a conservative or Republican had said exactly the same thing Dunn said, in the same way for the same type of audience, they SHOULD have their head handed to them. But they didn't.

It's easy to see that Reed was not complimenting Mao, but making a statement on the state of politics of today. It's more than likely that Ralph Reed didn't have conservative politics in mind, either.

If it was required that Trent Lott step down for his Strom Thurmond comment, it's more than appropriate for the White House Communication Director to step down immediately for her completely stupid, ill-advised and amateurish remarks.

Then there are the "control of the networks" comments we're hearing now.  I've nicknamed her "Squealer" for the time being.
Question:

We've been fighting this war for 8 years, why is it just now we are understaffed and it is such an issue?
And who are the generals responsible for letting it get so understaffed.

>>> The previous administration

Question #2.

Why are the people that complained most about rushing on healthcare, and rushing to stimulate the economy, are now the ones that think rushing is a good idea when dictating policy in afghanistan.

>>> Because healthcare as currently envisaged will not take effect until 2013 so the urgency to get a bill passed this year is only so that they can collect revenue for three years and have no benefits.  This is so the cost is "revenue neutral".  A decision (any decision) on Afghanistan is urgent because soldiers are dying as we speak because there are too few to perform the current mission.  Either withdraw or increase the number of troops (I personally prefer withdrawal) but either way the need for a decision is urgent.

Question #3.

Why is it that the ones that have issue with the costs of health care reform, and economic stimulus, aren't complaining about the cost of sending 40,000 troops to afghanistan for an occupation that most experts are saying may last another 7-10 years at the cost of 1 trillion dollars. (not deficit neutral)

>>> I am for withdrawal and I have an issue with the accounting gimmicks being used for healthcare and with wasteful spending associated with the so called stimulus.  (To me it was a pay off to supporters no different than GWB and his no bid contracts to Halliburton)

I'm looking forward to the responses.

That's not true. Fox played the entire Dunn speech with her reference to both Mother Teresa and Chairman Mao. Mother Teresa is fine as a hero, but Mao? Something is very wrong with a person that looks to Mao as their philosophical anchor.

What's the matter poor wittle wefties? (sniff-sniff) Now that the shoe is on the other foot, you can't handle criticism of the president? Now you suddenly demand respect for the office after 8 years of calling Bush every name in the book? You better get used to it. If you don't like it, take your whining to a site where people think and cry like you do.
And by the way, Nashville, and anyone else who links to "mediamatters", I'm pretty sure that I hold the same high regard for that organization as you do for Fox.

Tell that to Newt Gingrich, John McCain, Karl Rove, and George Bush.

From now on, try thinking for yourself . . .very liberating.
Since "Too Big To Fail" banks won't release money to the general public after the general public took them Off Life Support, President Obama should release TARP funds to smaller banks as a way of helping small businesses. I'll admit this should've happened sooner, but i'll also admit that this was the Intended Target to begin with. However the Big Boys took the $$ & Ran.

You'd better start looking at the ratings your self Laura instead of listening to Fox. MSNBC cleaned Foxes clock in prime time ratings. Fox is loosing viewers with all their hate.  - Mo

Where did you learn that, Mo?  Let me guess-MSNBC by any chance?  Why don't you take a look at the ratings from an independent news source, like TV Newser or Nielsen.  Go there and you will find that Fox crushes MSNBC.  Just because you hate them doesn't mean the rest of the country does.

Small businesses provide millions of jobs.  To get money flowing into these small businesses is a very good thing. President Obama is on the right track, supporting small businesses as well as creating government sponsored jobs.  This will go a long way to change the direction of unemployment numbers.

here it is though...why are we getting stuck with providing for societies cures? Why should we have to pay for social security, medicare, workers comp insurance, employee and their families health insurance, worker training and so forth and so on?

I get an employee for 40 lousy hours out of 168 of every week and yet I pay for 70% of their health coverage, 1/2 their SS and medicare, 100% of workers comp and so forth and so on...shouldn't I pay less than 25% and the rest be someone eleses problem?

Actually some great responses...I agree that we need to withdraw from afghanistan after a plan is put in place to defend and deter al queda forces in pakistan.

Which could include sending in drone attacks from warships rather than on the ground in afghanistan, and using specialized teams in pakistan, with a combination of working with tribes like we did in Iraq.

I would also agree that the current Baucus bill is not enough, because of the time lag in benefits....but also because it lacks a public option.  I think that an option to open medicare to those below retirement age for those who want to pay into is the best option.  I really believe the cost of doing nothing is much greater...

I would have to disagree about the stimulus.  Spending has been slow going to help avoid waste, although with any massive spending situation there will be an amount that falls through the cracks.  I do believe that in the long run the money spent on the stimulus will benefit americans, rather than overseas entities.

Thanks for responding the way you did...it proves that people can be respectful and yet challenging.

-------------

You seem confused. Many people, most people, understand that as you increase government entitlements, commitments, spending, that sooner or later the bill comes due. If someone is unemployed in the current business environment, it's going to be much harder for them to find work, simply because businesses know they are the ones that are taxed and regulated for each new employee they bring aboard. All the new taxes for the public option have to come from somewhere, and the businesses know it's them that will be hit. So why should they hire? And when the money runs out, what are the unemployed going to do for their health care when there is no one to pay for it?

Greg Remington

Don't you remember Greg? Obama told us "I won!". That gave him The Right to solve all the worlds problems. We're still waiting though for him to solve even one problem.
FOX, the station that is all about vicious personal attacks, information and words taken out of context, and targeting those with whom it disagrees just because it can.  A 4th grade boy asked President Obama why people hate him, they're supposed to love him, God is love--that's what a young boy sees and hears.  Watch Glenn Beck and FOX--the answer is clear.  Hate and loathing is in nearly every sentence spoken, and on every show.  What is sad are those who take those views and accept them without question.  I read it in the posts here daily.  FOX hosts often compare Pres Obama and Obama supporters to Hitler and his followers.  Well, it is apparent when listening to the right, the verbatim talking points posted and voiced that the viewers of FOX are the real victims with mindless, wholehearted acceptance of a doctrine, no questions asked, no facts checked.
Mao and Mother Teresa are examples at the opposite ends of the spectrum, duh. Did Anita Dunn say "hero"? No. Typically dishonest lawyerly twist of someone words, also typical of Fox.

For people who intentionally say stupid things all day long, and seem proud of it, they are awfully picky about people's chose of words, and seem to relish being dense as to what people are actually saying.

If I were Anita Dunn, I'd sue anyone who said I said Mao was a "hero". The only person who would get that -- and repeat it in public -- from her remarks has malice. And that trumps all defenses for slander except truth.
