Boehner blasts Obama White House

Posted: Thursday, October 22, 2009 3:30 PM by Mark Murray
Filed Under: ,

From NBC's Luke Russert
House Minority Leader John Boehner today came out swinging against the Obama White House, saying it was guilty of "Chicago style politics."

"The White House and congressional Democrats know that their liberal special interest agenda is not very popular, and now they're following a familiar pattern: When you can't win an argument based on the facts, launch vicious political attacks. This 'Chicago style politics' -- shutting the American people out and demonizing their opponents -- they're writing the health-care bill in secret, even though the president called for it to be at an open table to have C-SPAN cameras in the room."

Boehner continued, "Instead, Democrats are targeting those who don't fall immediately in line -- the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, doctors, and FOX News. The administration promised during the campaign that they were going to usher in a new era of post-partisanship, but what they are doing is really flat out despicable."

And: "If you look at these attacks on people who question the administration, you begin to wonder what the real plan is. And it really does to me look like Chicago-style politics. Like they are trying to demonize their opponents and do everything they can to make them distasteful." (Cue the pot-calling-the-kettle-black countercharge.)

Boehner also criticized the Obama administration on Afghanistan. "Finally, another week has passed without a decision from the president in regard to Afghanistan -- another week that our commander on the ground, Gen. McChrystal, says is critical to our efforts. The Obama administration needs to stop dragging its feet and give our men and women overseas what they need to win the fight and keep Americans safe." (Cue the White House response that the previous administration and GOP-controlled Congress failed to bolster the U.S. effort in Afghanistan.)

The Democrats have committed to a HCR bill that: 1) costs less than $900 billion over the first decade, 2) does not add a dime to the deficit now or in the future, 3) does not cause anyone to get new insurance if they are happy with what they have, 4) provides universal coverage, 5) has a government-run “public option,” 6) does not tax those making less than $250,000, 7) reduces health care costs and 8) (presumably) allows Democrats to get reelected.

The current crop of bills flunks 1 through 7.
Pam, San Pedro, California: ‘…Despite misgivings, she said she would take the president at his word "that he will try hard to pass a U.N. resolution and will seek to avoid war, if at all possible." …’

Sorry Pam, Hi8llary voted YES TO WAR
Everybody KNEW that was a vote for War
Bush had been searching for pretexts for war for years (anthrax, al-Queda, they tried to kill my daddy)
It was an open secret Bush would go to war
Hillary voted YES to advance her political career
She wanted to look ‘strong’ and ‘tough’  (and Presidential)
Hillary took the Easy way out, voting FOR WAR
GIVE IT UP, PAM !

In the Senate, the 21 Democrats, one Republican and one Independent who courageously voted their consciences in 2002 against the War in Iraq were:

* Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii)
* Jeff Bingaman (D-New Mexico)
* Barbara Boxer (D-California)
* Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia)
* Lincoln Chaffee (R-Rhode Island)
* Kent Conrad (D-North Dakota)
* Jon Corzine (D-New Jersey)
* Mark Dayton (D-Minnesota)
* Dick Durbin (D-Illinois)
* Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin)
* Bob Graham (D-Florida)
* Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii)
* Jim Jeffords (I-Vermont)
* Ted Kennedy (D-Massachusetts)
* Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont)
* Carl Levin (D-Michigan)
* Barbara Mikulski (D-Maryland)
* Patty Murray (D-Washington)
* Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island)
* Paul Sarbanes (D-Maryland)
* Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan)
* The late Paul Wellstone (D-Minnesota)
* Ron Wyden (D-Oregon)

What did they know that Hillary Didn’t??
Sorry Pam, you backed an opportunist who was on the make

‘…Also, I find it ridiculous that 99 other Senators got the word on Kyl/Lieberman but Obama claimed, “I didn’t get the word the vote was going to happen today.”  Yeah, right, okay and sure!! …’

WHY DID SHE VOTE FOR Kyl-Lieberman??
WHY did she threaten to ‘Annihilate’ Iran??
Trying to look ‘tough’ ??

‘…And President Bill Clinton did NOT race bait; there was race baiting; however, it came from the other side!! I voted for Obama; however, I won’t allow lies to be posted here without stating the FACTS!! …’

Ask Ted Kennedy if she Race Baited
Ask Keith Olbermann
Ask the Nation magazine (a long standing Progressive light)

There is none so blind as she who will not see

I see Boehner's jumped on the Cheney bandwagon.  This should get plenty of airtime on Fox!
How does an idiot like Boehner get elected. I've never seen a politician so out of touch with the mainstream. He's in rush limbaugh land these days. That wack job had 8 years with W to get things done and all he did was sit around and make his buddies rich.

Now he's the party of no. No to any new ideas, other than blowing countries up. Classic Right wing Republican nut case.

Also his aides need to tell him to back of the tan-a-rama, he's orange! The sun is not that strong in Ohio or DC at this time of the year!
Obama gets in front of his rich friends in NY and SF, the ones that give him gobs of money, and he says "Republicans do what they are told!". Really? What about your consistencies Barack? Like the African-American community? Do they what do what they are told, like vote for Democrats at a 90% rate, or you at a 95% rate?

Bush did a lot of things, but one of them wasn't these petty and juvenile attacks like Obama does against people he doesn't agree with.
Dear The Kwyjibo:

You have a nice writing style . . . but you don't seem to have that much to say . . . have you considered fiction?

Just a suggestion.

lol

P.S. Also too, the whole "czar" and "socialist" thing? Lame.

Nashville_fan

At least Kwyjibo has something to say, and says it well with a smart and concise writing style. You on the other hand seem to have only snarky comments. And you are correct about "czar" and "socialist" thing being lame. Obama and his clan are more in the neo-Marxist mode of operation.
Chris Matthews made an interesting observation on Hardball last night regarding the Democratic primary.  As it dragged on, he wanted to see Obama get in Hillary's face and give her a good political 'punch' in the nose!  But he remained civil and ultimately won the day.

I think that's what he's doing in Afghanistan - he's not telegraphing every move but you can bet he's got a plan and he'll announce it when the time is right.
More News: A top White House economist says spending from the $787 billion economic stimulus has already had its biggest impact on economic growth and will likely not contribute to significant expansion next year.

Christina Romer, the chair of President Barack Obama's Council of Economic Advisers, said Thursday that the $194 billion already spent gave a jolt to the economy that contributed to growth in the second and third quarters of the year. She told a congressional panel that by the middle of next year, the impact of the stimulus will level off. Romer said spending so far has saved or created 600,000 to 1.5 million jobs but warned that unemployment will remain high, above 9.5 percent, through the end of 2010.

--------------

Dr. Romer has a reputation as a loose cannon, and she's showing it off with this statement. Already we're seeing the that we are not having a "V" recovery, but more like a "W" non-recovery. And as to Dr. Romer's statement of 600,000 to 1.5 million jobs created or saved, that would mean if 1.0 million jobs were created/saved (the middle projection), that each job has cost $194,000 dollars. And these are the Obama administration numbers, not someone like Fox News.

And you liberals want the government to run health care system . . . . .
What can you expect from Obama. He was was thought and reared as a Chicago politician.
Some lefty liberals, 20 years from now have so much hate for George W. Bush that will still be gray and blaming Bush.
-------------

That ship has sailed, they're still blaming Reagan.
Dem Derangment (Sent Thursday, October 22, 2009 10:05 AM)

another ship has sailed..the one where bush and the republicans blamed clinton for 911 and everything else the incompetent republcians did wrong for 8 years....
I'm jez saying

Try again jez. No Republicans in either the Bush II administration, or in Congress, wasted one breath on what Bush inherited from Clinton. Clinton did ignore the rising threat of Islamic-Fascism during the '90s, but not once did GWB whine about the deal he got from Clinton. GWB dealt with it. Unlike Obama who wastes not one opportunity to blame someone else for his own failings.
Boehner takes a swing . . . ahhhhh, another miss!

Sadly Rep. Boehner, the FACTS are on the Presidents
side.

In terms of Afghanistan . . . please stop grandstanding and trying to score political points . . . especially when the Republcan party already has so much blood on its hands in Afghanistan and Iraq.

It's inappropriate and frankly crass.

P.S. What do Republicans have againslt Chicago? lol
Boehner better not have a dog. If he does, Obama will be out driving around tonight trying to run it down. You don't speak badly about the potus John, and if you do, you pay the consequences, either you, or Fido that is.
This 'Chicago style politics' -- shutting the American people out and demonizing their opponents -- they're writing the health-care bill in secret, even though the president called for it to be at an open table to have C-SPAN cameras in the room."

"You are either with us or against us." If you don't agree with the Administration on this you are UnAmerican, a traitor.

Do these sound familiar? Mr. Boehner, were either uttered by George W. Bush and/or his supporters and you have the gall to stand up and accuse this Administration of such things? What a hypocrit.

People who didn't fall into lockstep with Dubya were branded as something less than American. This, of course, violates the Constitution, a document the Bushies thought was toilet paper and used it as such. It also defys the idea that democracy thrives on dissent and difference of opinion. It was terrible to dare have dissent or a different opinion when your party was raping and pillaging our government and our coutnry but let someone criticize any propaganda wing of your extremist views and you come all unglued.

On Afghanistan, you and your pal Cheney need to let the President do his job. The time for knee jerk cowboy, shoot first and if you get around to it ask questions later diplomacy is over. There's a new kid in town and he does things differently and seems to be making progress, albeit small progress. Your party, when in power, virtually ignored Afghanistan and Pakinstan, where the guys are that ACTUALLY harmed our country were and are while you went after another soverign nation who had nothing to do with the attacks and was no threat to much of anyone outside their own borders. Americans work up in Novermber of 2006 and are seeing more and more of what a debacle it has been. Only about 20% of Americans now identify themselves as Republicans. What a shame that a group of extremists can rule a once grand old party and drive it down like that. As long as you and your ilk continue this kind of commentary your party will lose all but a hand full of right wingnut radical extremists (your base) and those who once identified with your party will start a new party far more liberal than the last. It happened when the Federalists died and the Whigs formed and when the Whigs died and the Republicans formed. The knee jerk jingoistic failed policy we have seen from the Bushies should not be continued. Instead real diplomacy is being tried. There is no boogy man waiting under your bed and the sky isn't falling either. Fear tactics worked for awhile but people are wise to that stuff now and all it does is make you and others using such tactis look foolish. So keep it up, Sir, and you will see the demise of the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower, Reagan,and T. Roosevelt. Good luck and stay the course.
Barack Obama - little man, big job. And it's not getting done.
Doctors want single payer which is far beyond a public option.

Replace "Chicago" with "GOP" and his comments start to make sense.

And how can the party that built the afghanistan anchor tell obama to stop dragging his feet when they hand it to them?

So is boehner drumming up the 1 trillion funds for extra troops to be sent?  How bout you tell our president to bring our troops home?  Oh that's right we are trying to "win" afghanistan now, after you had written it off as little as 1 year ago.

P.S. democrats don't attack those who fall in line...

We do attack those who act as if the constitution does not apply to "priveledged" americans.

We attack those who use entertaining misdirection to turn the working middle class on those who have a hard time making ends meet, let alone protect themselves.

And we attack those who have never looked any further than their T.V. set at the world around them.  You don't see the real world on any one channel.

remember that.
PRETTY PAMELA

Obie was a senator who did nothing but vote "present"
unless the issue was abortion. Therefore, the ONLY thing he ever DID was community organize (intimidate).

Our opinion.

And thanks for the info on the GWB thrashing of Olbermann. BTW,
how does Olbermann get on ESPN while Rush can't get to the NFL?

Although I am one of the few who still calls myself a Republican, this moderate loses more and more faith in the GOP with every passing day. They seem content to have voices like Rush, Beck and Palin represent the party.
Seems like every week we have a headline from you:
_____(insert GOP rep) Blasts Obama.
Since they have no ideas, all they can do is attack and try to scare people. With only 20% of people identifying as a Republican these days, don't you think they'd get together and determine their techniques are not working? They are pushes people like me out! Minorities think the GOP is a joke! President Obama welcomed the Republicans into talks from day 1 but all we heard was "we will oppose reform" no matter what, even if we get all of our wishes. Give me a break. Now that they've lost their chance and negotiations are in the final stages, they are mad that the majority party gets to shape things in a way that won't reward the insurance companies that line the pockets of GOP members.

I totally agree with John Boehner,  I just wish MSNBC could see it. Seems Fox News is the only News Program that is fair and balanced.  Fox is trying to report the true news to save America from the Liberal agenda.
Abraham Lincoln said,"Truth is our best friend."
Please report the news, don't try to create it to suit the Whitehouse.  Obama health care is a JOKE!

The REAL News

'...Reid – after a series of meetings with Democratic moderates – has concluded he can pass a bill with a public option..'

From HuffPost:

'...Public Option: It's Back
October 22, 2009 3:17 PM

The public option.  The idea was believed to be dead.  Liberals wanted it, but Senate vote counters insisted it simply could not pass the Senate.  The dynamic, however, has changed.  The public option may be back from dead.

I am told that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is leaning toward including the creation of a new government-run insurance program – the so-called public option – in the health care reform bill he will bring to the full Senate in the coming weeks.

Democratic sources tell me that Reid – after a series of meetings with Democratic moderates – has concluded he can pass a bill with a public option.

This is not because there has been a new groundswell of support for the idea.  In fact, there are still a handful of Democrats who --  along with Olympia Snowe and every other Republican – oppose the idea.  As recently as this morning, Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), for one, dismissed recent polls that show public support for the idea, telling NPR, "I think if you asked, do you want a public option but it would force the government to go bankrupt, people would say no.”

That would appear to be a problem because Reid needs 60 votes to pass a health care bill and there are simply not 60 Senators who support a public option.  But Reid is now convinced that Democratic critics of the public option will support him when it counts – on the procedural motion, which requires 60 votes, to defeat a certain GOP-led filibuster of the bill.  Once the filibuster is beaten, it only takes 51 votes to pass the bill.

And Democratic critics of the public option would get a chance to go on-the-record with their opposition by voting for an amendment to strip it from the health care bill.  Under Senate rules, such an amendment would need 60 votes to pass.  And while there may not be 60 votes in favor of a public option, there are also not 60 votes against it.  So, it would remain in the bill...'

Forget Boner, he's just yapping
He's got nothing better to do
Sadly, those on the left appear completely untroubled by a coordinated WH attack on Fox News.  Fox News, much like MSNBC and CNN, has both news programming and opinion programming (go ahead, try to argue with a straight face that Olbermann is a journalist).

Isn't this the type of action about which our Founding Fathers were grievously concerned?

What about targeting the anti-trust exemption for insurance companies?  I don't know if the exemption is good policy or not (by their nature, exemptions from anti-trust law discourage competition, which isn't good).  However, if the exemption was such a bad idea, why wasn't this tackled a long time ago?  Instead, a branch of the US government is threatening an industry due to opposition to Obama's policies.

Forget for a moment that nobody likes insurance companies.  Yes, they've done some horrible things in the name of the bottom line.  If the government is going to punish dissent, we've all got a problem.  What happens when it's not the insurance industry?  Who's next?
Who really care what the Republicans think or have to say anyway. They are totally negitive and they don't have any ideals about how to lead! The only thing they keep saying is NO NO NO NO! They really make me sick!
News item: Editors from the progressive magazine The Nation are pulling together a book to be released the same day as Sarah Palin’s with a similar title and cover mocking the former Alaska governor’s memoir.

Yet another Left wing pos media attacking women. Don't recall The Nation putting out any parody books for any man that was publishing a book.
Pam, I sent you a message last week saying what MSierra said, but it wasn't posted. President Obama will have to make a decision based on many opinions, one of which will be Hillary Clinton's viewpoint, who as we all know, voted FOR the war.

And I believe she has stated she is in the "send more troops" category.

The anti-war folks are always right. The GOP and some of our supposed intelligent media have never seen a war they didn't like. And they in turn manipulate an awful lot of people into believing pure BS. Obama was correct. Ted Kennedy was correct. The facts were there. There were no WMD's, if anyone bothered to do the due diligence required before such a decision.

(Ron, I'm still around. I'm just concentrating right now on work that will be done in my home starting this weekend). Takes an awful lot of time and concentration attempting to get it just right.
It's just sad that, after the Republicans allowed 9-11 to happen, after the Republicans failed to win two wars for eight years, after Republicans let Osama Bin Laden get away, after Republicans allowed Iran to persue Nukes for eight years, after Republicans destroyed our economy, Now they want to criticize? What a bunch of hypocites.
Can't win an arguement based on facts:
Like weapons of mass destructiuon?
Like mission accomplished?

Shutting out the American people:
Like denying that we need health care reform?
Like not knowing anyone who supports the public option?
Like not believing that American die as a result of not having insurance?

Demonizing your opponent:
Like showing our President as a witch doctor?
Like calling our President a Hitler?

OMG!!  Give me a break!
Hmmm.. Chicago, that's where the great republican Lincoln came from right?? Didn't he use Chicago style politics too :)
I don't really consider MSNBC to be a legitimate news organization.  They are really just a propaganda arm of the Democratic party.  Witness that Keith and little brother Rachel got their first PUBLIC briefing yesterday.  Who knows for how long this has actually been going on?

When is the website going to put the "White House Seal of Approval" up?
Agains with Agent Orange noise.  Nothing he says is of any consequence - he simply whines like a little girl (no offense to little girls).  He did nothing of substantive when his party was in charge and now all he does his moan and groan.  Please - go visit the Shooter and you two play nice at his hunting lodge. Yes, I am being snarky, but this is seriously getting old and FR treats it like it is just the best thing ever.
Marcus D., Chicago : '...It's always amazing how the women and minorities stand up for the party that has always tried to hold them down. It boggles the mind how they are so dead-lock set in loyalty even with the short changes they continue to receive. It must be easier to continue to buy the lie....'

LOL !!!
Gee I wonder what Republicans are doing to 'hold them down' ???

From Huff Post:

'....Republicans for Rape: Lets Get Real

If you've been on the net in the past few days, you have probably seen republicansforrape.org. This tongue-in-cheek site satirizes the positions of the 30 senators who voted against an amendment to alter the law regarding mandatory binding arbitration.

A few friends and I posted the site to our Facebook walls, and a lively discussion has sprung up on whether the site goes offensively too far. Now, I love it when Facebook can be used as a space for the hashing out of weighty things, but it seems to me that there is a major blind spot in much of this discussion that needs to be dealt with head on.

It is wise to point out that, without context, a vote on a given bill can be spun any number of ways. Both parties do this all the time. So here is what some of the Senators said about their own votes:

Senators Corker, Chambliss and Isakson justified their 'no' votes on the grounds that the amendment would prohibit workers from using mandatory binding arbitration even if they wanted it. Senator Thune said he might have voted for it if it had been narrowed to cover rape rather than extended to cover other sexual-related abuses. Still other Senators said since DoD opposed it on the grounds of enforcement challenges, they decided to as well.

The trouble is, in context, some of these rationales are based on falsehoods, and others are out of balance with the issue at hand. In the case of Corker Chambilss and Isakson, their rationale would work, were it not explicitly spelled out in the bill that employees would still be able to elect to use arbitration; they simply wouldn't be forced into it.

Thune seems to think (contrary to civil rights law) that only instances of rape deserve a day in court. Those Senators who sided with DoD's reasoning said that because DoD may not know about these incidents, they can't be expected to enforce this law.

It is this last line of reasoning that is the most important point to hash out.

Consider that rape is only the most extreme incarnation of a host of acts of sexual discrimination against women. From cat-calling, to verbal harassment, to unwanted touching and so on...'

Whgich party is holding down women ?
and letting others 'hold down women'

Keep up the good works, apparently your party the GOP hast lost last 2 congressional elections & the presidential election, your party blindly followed Bush into Iraq & messed up in Afghanistan, gets cozy with the right wing nuts on talk radio, another word the GOP has lost its legitimacy & now you try to shift the blame to President Obama who has been in office only for 10 months. Where was your anger the last 8 years when George "W" Bush made a mess, ruined America reputation & waged war in Iraq which had nothing to do with 9/11.

Obama is just petty and small. He's playing a game more like what a Community Organizer would play. Going after a certain segement of the media for over a week now? Why not just complain about the weather next?
And I should care what this pandering two-toned j@ck@ss has to say because...
Obama is nothing short of a bully with no experience and cannot make 1 decision he is a socialist -marxist talk about race devide 95% of the blacks in America voted for him not based on his record which is a big zero but on COLOR and nothing more this is by far the most corrupt administration to ever sit in the White House they break laws every day if Obama followed the laws he would get support put he lies and denys every thing 10 months into her first term and he still tires to blame George Bush he is such a puke Obama get real your a 1 term Clown Mr Barrack Bozo
Scott McClellan's book outlines how Fox regularly received talking points directly from the Bush White House.

What I don't understand is, why is the Republican base so proud of their ignorance?

By my recollection Fox is on the Air, and still allow to broadcast.  Nobody is threatening to shut them down.

FOX entertainment is giving their opinion.

Our president is giving his.

For example, if I were to say that people "who think the president giving his opinion about FOX is unconstitutional" are a bunch of uneducated dumb@55es that would be my constitutional right to do so.

You may not like it, because it's calling you out.  But it is what it is, and it's 100% american
Unlike Obama who wastes not one opportunity to blame someone else for his own failings.

Can you quote one time where Obama blamed Bush for the mess we're in. Not your version, but actual words from Obamas mouth. Personally, I can think of one or two where Obama stated a proven fact but I don't think that counts as laying blame.
Good luck and stay the course.

First of all the Republican party is not on the decline but are actually using the MOP SLOGAN and getting rid of all the fair-weather Conservatives. They are not running to the Democrap party in record numbers.You may have the young indoctrinated right now but when the get a little older and see what life is about, they will do like always and migrate to the Republican party.

BTW: Obama is not going to be the POTUS forever. There will be another Republican in there and all this BS you and your co-horts have been spewing will come back to bite you dead in your azz. I guarantee you that.
