Hillary Clinton in Pakistan

From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was welcomed to Pakistan by a car bomb explosion in Peshawar -- as well as word of the latest terror attacks in Afghanistan.

Just as Clinton was embarking on a trip to emphasize that the U.S. was not only focused on security and terror -- but also wanted a broader relationship with Pakistan -- the terror attacks brought home the brutal reality of Pakistan's dilemma: Under pressure from the U.S., the government has launched its long delayed attack against insurgents in tribal areas. But the extremists have responded with a spate of attacks, undermining the legitimacy of the government and angering Pakistanis frustrated by the lack of security.

At a news conference today with Pakistan's foreign minister, Clinton said that she wanted to turn the page on the U.S. relationship with Pakistan and build on mutual respect and shared responsibilities. "While we may disagree from time to time as friends and partners do" Clinton said, she vowed to do more thru people to people diplomacy.

Clinton also announced a major U.S. program to help Pakistan deal with country-wide electricity shortages.

Asked about today's attacks, and what he would say to Pakistanis who say "Is it worth it?"
the foreign minister said, "We will not buckle. We will fight you. We will fight you because we want peace and security in Pakistan. You are on the run and you know that."

Clinton said that the U.S. has lost a number of brave American soldiers in Afghanistan in recent months. She added, "As the foreign minister said, this is a fight that can not be avoided. These attacks on innocent people are cowardly. If the people behind these attacks are so sure of their political beliefs, let them join the political process... They know they are on the losing side of history, but they are determined to take as many people with them as their movement is exposed for the nihilistic and empty effort that it is."

She said she commends the government of Pakistan for taking on this fight, but that while she is here she wants to try to correct misconceptions -- and reach out to as many people as possible.

Why can't we squeeze the Taliban from Afghanistan while Pakistan is squeezing them from Pakistan ?

Make sure you cover your swelled head and big mouth Hillary.

RIGHT ON MSierra!

If Clinton had knocked off Osama Bin Laden when he had the chance we would all be better off today.
But Slick Willie had more pressing issues in his trousers.
This is a great example of how little or no ceteralized govornment in a region leads to anarchy and chaos. Left alone mans greed and fixation on power lead to small groups and lots of infighting. The world is in need of a single all powerful global govoenment. In order to acomplish this we must break down the last reminents of a capitolistic system and then build the world government from the ashes. We must destroy the class system. Only when they all feel equally needy will the masses accept the need for centeral control.
Cheerlead much for Hillary this morning on Morning Joe Andrea?

Which completey explains Joe Biden.

And what branch of the service did Barack serve in again? The Pansy Brigade?
Terrorism is on the rise in the world. Maybe they haven't got word that Obama is now President? That has got to be the answer.
Improving governance is the ONLY solution to Pakistan's woes. Extremism, militancy and terrorism, by and large, are the bye-products of blatant injustice meted out to most of the people in almost every sphere of their lives. The US does not appear to have realized the root-cause of the whole issue. My sincere advice to Hillary Clinton is to reach out to the representatives of the civil society organizations in Pakistan and listen to their views before drawing conclusions on the basis of what she is told by the government and the politicians in Pakistan who are not the true representatives of the people at large.

Got get 'em Hillary.  We all know that all terrorists are Cheney-esque gutless cowards.  Why else would they attack a market for women??

We ought to just put an international force in parimeter around Pakistan and Afghanistan to contain them and let them kill each other while we ge the heck out. Our glut for foreign oil had fueled this whole mess in the first place. The quicker we can join and hopefully pass countries like Communist China, Brazil, and India in production of renewable, safe, home grown energy the better we will be in all areas, jobs, clean air and energy independance.

No one has been able to tame that area in Pakistan/Afghanistan for a few thousand years. Why we think we can do it now is beyond me.
