First thoughts: Obama visits Dover

*** Obama visits Dover: Before he makes his decision whether or not to send more U.S. troops to Afghanistan, President Obama traveled to Dover Air Force Base late last night to witness the transfer of 18 U.S. personnel who were killed in that country. “Wearing a suit and a topcoat, Obama was greeted by the airlift wing commander before getting into car for the short drive to a base chapel, where he met with family members of the deceased,” the Washington Post reports. “Afterward, the president took part in the military's precise, solemn transfer of the cases holding the bodies of the fallen from the plane to the vehicles that would transport them to a base mortuary. Four times, Obama marched up the ramp of the transport plane and bore witness as Maj. Richard S. Bach, an Air Force chaplain, offered a prayer over the remains. Afterward, he joined other officials, including Attorney General Eric C. Holder, standing at attention and saluting.” (The video footage of the Dover event, by the way, is for just one soldier, as the family of Sgt. Dale Griffin gave permission for media coverage.) The president returned to the White House a little before 5:00 am ET. Perhaps more than anything else, last night’s visit signals that whatever troop decision Obama makes, it should keep the left from being overly critical as he's absorbed the cost of his decision from every angle -- including this one.

*** The recession is over: That is the message from the latest GDP numbers. Per the AP, “The economy grew at a 3.5 percent pace in the third quarter, the best showing in two years, fueled by government-supported spending on cars and homes. It was the strongest signal yet the economy entered a new phase of recovery and that the worst recession since the 1930s has ended.” That’s news the Obama White House will definitely tout today. But here’s the news that the GOP will tout, courtesy again of the AP: “An early progress report on President Barack Obama's economic recovery plan overstates by thousands the number of jobs created or saved through the stimulus program, a mistake that White House officials promise will be corrected in future reports.” The White House late last night fired off an aggressive response to the article: “This story draws misleading conclusions from a handful of examples. It looks at only a small portion of the data -- an initial upload of data representing just two percent of Recovery Act spending – that was made publicly available before a full review of its accuracy could be done.”

*** Pelosi’s health bill: At 10:30 am ET, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats will outline the health-care legislation they plan to bring to the House floor. As NBC’s Mike Viqueira reported yesterday, the measure is not expected to include the "robust" public option, or the reimbursement rate to medical professions based on Medicare plus 5%. Instead, it will include a public option based on rates negotiated region by region -- which Harry Reid’s Senate bill also includes.

*** The great American health-care fight: There are many other moving parts today in the health-care debate. The Democratic National Committee goes after Sarah Palin in its latest “Call’em out” campaign to debunk what it says are the mistruths she has spread on health-care reform… With Sen. Evan Bayh (D) apparently undecided whether he’d join a GOP filibuster, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America are releasing new polling data (courtesy of Research 2000) showing that Indiana voters support a public option by a 52%-42% margin… The Dem-leaning Americans United for Change has a Web video blasting health insurers and their anti-trust protection… And the National Republican Senatorial Committee has a Halloween-themed Web video whacking Obama and the Democrats on health-care and a host of other things.

*** Plouffe on Hillary, Palin: This Sunday on “Meet the Press,” David Gregory will interview Obama campaign David Plouffe regarding his new book, “The Audacity to Win: The Inside Story and Lessons of Barack Obama’s Historic Victory.” Time magazine has some excerpts from Plouffe’s book. On weighing Hillary as Obama’s VP: “Barack continued to be intrigued by Hillary. ‘I still think Hillary has a lot of what I am looking for in a VP,’ he said to us ‘... I think Bill may be too big a complication. If I picked her, my concern is that there would be more than two of us in the relationship.’ Neither Ax nor I were fans of the Hillary option.” And on Palin: “I also thought it was a downright bizarre, ill-considered and deeply puzzling choice ... [Obama] said, “... when voters step back and analyze how he made this decision, I think he’s going to be in big trouble. You just can’t wing something like this — it’s too important.”

*** A ceasefire in the Chamber-White House war? In the past few days, the Obama White House and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have engaged in a spirited -- and public -- battle over health care and climate change. But today, at least, the sides appear to be calling a truce. At 11:50 am ET, Obama will deliver remarks at the White House to members of the Chamber, the normally Republican-leaning National Federation of Independent Business, and other small business owners. Per the White House, the speech is a follow up “to the small business announcement last week that would increase the caps for existing SBA loans and give smaller banks better access to TARP funding to encourage more lending.” Later in the day, Obama meets with Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore.

*** Swine flu, WH perks: Two other stories, via the New York Times, deserve attention today. The first is about the shortage of the swine flu vaccine. “The shortage, caused by delays in the vaccine manufacturing process, has put the president in exactly the situation he sought to avoid — one in which questions are being raised about the government’s response.” Yesterday, we saw the first Republican lawmaker (Missouri Rep./Senate candidate Roy Blunt) hit the administration on this issue. The other story worth keeping an eye on is the follow-up to that Washington Times story from yesterday, which alleged that big contributors were receiving special perks. “Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, spent part of his briefing on Wednesday trying to dismiss the suggestion that people who gave money to President Obama were given special access to the executive mansion. The questions arose after The Washington Times reported that Mr. Obama has continued the longtime practice of rewarding donors with perks, including use of the bowling alley. ‘Contributing doesn’t guarantee a visit to the White House,’ Mr. Gibbs said, ‘nor does it preclude it.’” The question the White House seems to be having the TOUGHEST time answering is not granting donors access to the White House -- but why high level officials, like Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina, are participating in donor briefings at DNC events?

*** Rove’s 2009 spin: In his weekly Wall Street Journal column, Karl Rove writes how the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial contests could be harbingers for the 2010 midterms. “Tuesday's election will provide the most tangible evidence so far of how strong a backlash is building—and just how frightened centrist Democrats should be of 2010. For Republicans, it looks as if hope and change are on the way.” But as George W. Bush’s chief political adviser, Rove should also know that the VA and NJ races don’t always predict what’s going to happen in the midterms. In 2005 -- right after Hurricane Katrina -- Democrats won both contests, an early sign of their success in 2006 (when they back control of Congress) and in 2008 (when they won the White House). Yet in 2001 -- right after the 9/11 terrorist attacks -- Democrats also won both races. But the next year, Republicans picked up seats in the House and Senate, and Bush won re-election in 2004. Rove does offer some interesting advice to Republicans in that NY-23 civil war: Tell third-party conservative Doug Hoffman he is welcome to caucus with the GOP if he wins the election.

*** 2009 ballot watch: The gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia, as well as the special congressional election in NY-23, are certainly the marquee races on Tuesday. But there are also several ballot initiatives to watch, particularly one on same-sex marriage in Maine. In May, Maine became the sixth state to pass a law allowing same-sex marriage, but voters on Tuesday will consider whether they want to repeal that law. Also in Maine, voters take up whether to change its medical marijuana law. Additionally, Maine and Washington consider a Taxpayer Bills of Right (TABOR), which would limit states and localities on taxing and spending. (In 1992, voters in Colorado approved the first TABOR.) Finally, as cities and states across the country struggle with trying to balance budgets, voters in Ohio will weigh whether to add casinos in four cities. It has become a major issue in those four cities’ mayoral elections.

*** More 2009: RNC Chair Michael Steele campaigns today and tomorrow with the top of the GOP ticket in Virginia; Steele stumped in New Jersey last week… PolitickerNJ reports that Jon Corzine (D) is outspending Chris Christie (R) by almost a 3-1 clip… And a new Virginia Commonwealth University poll has Bob McDonnell (R) up by 18 points (!!!).

Confessions of a Blogger:

It was during the primaries when I made my first comment on FR.  I was green as a gourd and was actually surprised to see my comments posted.  Knowing that Hillary has a history of confusing facts with fantasy, I was outraged when she said she was instrumental in resolving the “troubles” in Ireland.  Then when she said she was under gunfire in Bosnia, I started posting liar, liar, liar.

Later, when the contest was between Barack Obama and John McCain, I wanted to highlight McCain’s age so I was guilty of calling him McFossil, or McOld…even called him demented more than a few times.

After a while I began to realize that my comments said more about me than it did my opponents. About the same time I realized that there were bloggers who had something to say and were darn good writers.  Too many of you to mention, but you know who you are.

Today’s comments are really directed to Republicans who frequent FR on a daily basis. When you use Obie, or other demeaning names to describe our President, you are saying more about yourself than our President. Additionally, people don’t read your comments as they are simply too shallow to be considered thoughtful.

If you have something to say, say it. If it lacks intelligent thought, say it anyway; readers can tell the difference.  If you like using words like Socialism, Marxism, and Fascism, go to a dictionary or a history book so you know the meaning of the words. Our country has hundreds of public programs and we are nowhere close to fitting the words described above. If you like to trash-talk, walk away from your computer and play in a public park.

Elise, SF:  Thank you for sharing your story and why you support HCR with a public option.  You will not hear a “Peep” from Republicans.

No comments from Ron tomorrow.  My computer will be down…but I doubt I will go to the park to do any trash-talking.

To FR: You had a very good week.  Thanks for keeping “Comments” open to allow for some dialogue. It is the dialogue that sets FR apart from the rest of the websites.
President Obama paid his respect to some our our fallen Heroes last night.

But as part of the right-wing Obama Derangement Syndrome (ODS), expect some rants in 3....2....1....
If the Lord were a pitcher, he would pitch like Pedro.” First baseman David Segui

World Series 2009 – Pedro Martinez pitching against the New York Yankees in Yankee Stadium.

I’m sure baseball fans from across the nation are aware of how difficult it is to get tickets to see a game @ Fenway Park. If you happen to come across old films of Sox games from the 1970’s, 1980’s & 1990’s, you’ll see that Fenway wasn’t always sold out.

Then Pedro came to town in 1998. And it all changed. He certainly is not the pitcher he once was. But in the days when he was “on”, there was no one better. I can remember so well 2 pitching performances by him in Yankee Stadium. One was Memorial Day weekend 2000, Pedro vs. Clemens. I was at that game and of all the games I have attended in my lifetime, this will forever be my most memorable.

“Pedro faced off against traitorous former Boston ace Roger Clemens in a game at Yankee Stadium. The teams entered the game tied for first in the American League. The game was scoreless through eight innings, but Roger gave in in the ninth, surrendering a two-run homer to Trot Nixon. Pedro held on to preserve the 2-0 victory in one of the most exciting regular-season games in Red Sox history, regain sole possession of first place for his team, and once and for all establish who is the better pitcher. He later revealed he was suffering from the flu.”

I ran down & took a quick photo of Pedro and Clemens together, both warming up side by side before the game. I still have that picture hanging on my wall @ work.

This was the other:

“September 10, 1999: Martínez beat the New York Yankees 3–1. He faced just 28 batters while striking out 17 and walking none (Martínez hit the game's first batter, Chuck Knoblauch, but he was then caught stealing). Only a solo home run by Chili Davis separated Martínez from a no-hitter. The Davis home run came in the second inning, eliminating any suspense, but this may have been Martínez's most dominant day on the mound. Sportswriter Thomas Boswell called it the best game ever pitched at Yankee Stadium.”

And there was this:

“Martínez was named the AL Pitcher of the Month in April, May, June, and September 1999, an unprecedented feat for a single season. Martínez punctuated his dominance in the 1999 All-Star Game start at Fenway Park, when he struck out Barry Larkin, Larry Walker, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire and Jeff Bagwell in two electrifying innings. It was the first time any pitcher struck out the side to start an All-Star Game, and the performance earned Martínez the All-Star Game MVP award.”

Pedro – I never saw anyone quite like him. He could be a real pain in the ****, but so what. Pitchers like him just don’t come around too often.  For a little guy with a questionable arm, he was as tough as nails once he took that mound.
A stripped-down approach would signal caution in widening a war that is going worse this year than last despite intense U.S. attention and an additional 21,000 U.S. forces sent there on Obama's watch."

*** Obama visits Dover

President Bush was always meeting with the families of fallen soldiers, many times went to Dover AFB, and had many of them visit the White House. President Bush did this without cameras around too. That's just not the place for a photo-up, well at least not for President Bush. For Obama, it appears it's the perfect place for a photo-op, you know, to show the world he cares.
It’s going to be interesting listening to the righties today twist & spin President Obama’s trip to Dover Air Force Base overnight to suit their warped agenda!  Can’t wait to see them ‘tie’ that to a ‘teleprompter’!  lol lol

Personally I’m proud and touched by our Presidents gesture to our fallen soldiers! I also want to thank the families that allow the cameras to be present upon their loved ones return!  I can’t imagine having to make that kind of decision during such a heart wrenching time… however your courage to allow this is a CONSTANT reminder of the ultimate cost of war!

Which brings me to the losers yesterday screaming about ‘censorship’… I would like to take this moment to remind YOU that under the last regime… these pictures were NOT ALLOWED… what the hell was that other than the ULTIMATE in censorship??

And as far as the ‘swine’ flu hoopla… reminds me of Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’! Can you say Captain Trip anyone?

I’m not buying into this hysteria for one minute!  36,000 people die every year of the ‘seasonal’ flu in the United States for pete’s sake!  Why hasn’t the media covered those deaths in the past years with the tenacity they have for H1N1?  Gee… I wonder??

If you need to be reminded AGAIN the Government does not MANUFACTURE vaccines… that’s handled by the rich cat pharmaceutical companies!  If you want to play the blame game… at least direct it to the party responsible!

I’ve never had a seasonal flu shot and don’t plan on starting this year with an H1N1 either!
*** The recession is over:

What a deal! Time for a parade! Time to pass the biggest and best health care plan that we can imagine! Lets give huge Earmarks for every congress man, woman and child (Alan Grayson). It is a time to SELL-E-BRATE! Except for you unemployed people. You need to stay home. Watch it all on TV.
The current h1n1 flu vaccine production/delivery problems? It's Bush's fault.
Haven't posted in a while, but here are a few thoughts from this conservative:

1.  I don't agree with him much, but I respect the heck out of Obama going to Dover early this morning.  That really does impress me that he went over there to take part.

2.  When John McCain first selected Sarah Palin as his running mate, I was excited.  She was a very popular, conservative governor that could help excite the base.  But once I got to hear more from her, I realized it was a mistake.  We have so many rising stars in the party, I really think she isn't one of them and now every time she speaks out I cringe.  Have liberals been unfair in their criticism, sure.  But I think its best if she writes her book and then gently fades away.

3.  I am a fiscal conservative, and despite their claims, Republicans were not fiscally conservative from 2000-2006.  I am hoping that the last 2 elections are the wake up call they needed.

4.  I am against the Dems health care reform, but the Republicans have to do a better job of getting their alternative plans out there and publicized.
First Thoughts.

Let the liberal lies begin.
First amendment to the HCR bills to offered by the Republicans? That Congress should accept the health care plan they are forcing on the American people. The bill wouldn't get a vote if that amendment was included.

So Ms. Pelosi, are you ready to begin the end-of-life counseling for your Health Care Reform bill?

The AP had a news story that said "Obama administration overstates Stimulus jobs by thousands,"

So now we can guess that the AP will be treated by the White House as just another opinion news outlet and they don't cover any real news. Isn't that right libbies? How dare they say anything condescending of Obama's great wisdom and leadership. Talk about a bunch of thin skinned little girls playing west wing. This is who represents the libbies. This is the best they have. the one who stands for what they believe in and support without question. You should be ashamed of yourselves, very ashamed.
Despite the need to look at every thing from a political angle, I think the President's visit to Dover was not a political move - it was an act of compassion and humanity by the Commander in Chief to pay respects to the vicitims of the horrific accident on Monday.

Hopefully it will serve a reminder to all of us that our troops are not numbers in a report - they are this country's most precious asset - and decisions that affect them should be handled thoughtfully and carefully, not rushed through for political advantage.
Maybe I'll finally be able to respond to "Bad Chihuahua" who called me a jackass yesterday.

If reminding you that Sarah Palin QUIT makes me one, then like Popeye once said, "I am what I am!"

Enjoy your day, Tinkerbell!

PS - Sarah Palin still QUIT!

Awesome post Ron!  You got me thinking and you’re right about the tenor & tone around here!  I’m trying to be a bit more constrained in some of my comments/responses to our counterparts… but… dang it’s not always easy with some of the ‘stuff’ that comes out of them!

Not to mention JUST how hard it is to tame the feistiness – but then you already know that being married to a redhead… right? ;0)

Anyway… have a Happy Halloween & nice weekend!

Ps; I told my daughter I was going as Sarah Palin this year and she dropped the phone!  She thought I was serious!  lol lol lol I told her not to worry as I was only ‘Going Rogue’!
Kudos to Ron from Indiana for a great post - I couldn't agree more Ron . . . you are definitely on of the most thoughtful posters here!

Big Al in Chicago – Re. Your Comments

Lemmie tell you- it went toward his sideshow, unconstitutional, 'Office of the President Elect' stunt that cost the taxpayers millions while Barack ran his little power trip "office" at the Federal Building in Chicago right after the election.

The Presidential Transition Act of 1963 authorizes the Administrator of the General Services Administration to certify, even before the December vote of the Electoral College, the apparent winner of the November general election as the President-elect for the purposes of receiving federal transition funding, office space and communications services prior to the beginning of the new administration on January 20.
Didn't Obama say Afghanistan was a "War of Necessity"?But instead of fighting the war, Obama is defining certain defeat in Afghanistan. This isn't a military decision that Obama is making, it's a 100% political decision. I'm embarrassed to have this man as my CIC. What he's doing with his actions is pulling the rug out from General McCrystal's feet. Knowing McCrystal, he'll resign within days for lack of competent support from Obama. With every new day, Obama shows why he's not up the job he was elected to do.
Not enough flu vaccines.

OBAMA's FAULT.
Ron Indiana - great post; couldn't agree with you more.
I believe that President Obama is truely sad over the death of service members at any time. I also believe that he will do what he believes what is best for the nation and the safety of our forces. That said, his timing to honor those fallen is purely political. It is beyond coincidental that he did it just as he is deciding what to do overseas.

And a $787 billion dollar Stimulus plan produced 30,000 jobs. That's about $26 million dollars a job. Do you think you got your money's worth?
Interesting that Obama spends a night at Dover while the last administration tried to convince Americans the place didn't exist.

On the surface, it sounds like good news with the 3rd qtr. GDP numbers.  But they admit it is a short-lived bump because of the clunkers and house credit.  Now those markets will be stale for a while, so let's see how the 4th qtr. turns out. I think it's too soon to say "the recession is over."
I have zero respect for Palin, but I have to say, this Levi Johnson seems like a pure weasle to me.

President Obama paying his Respect to Fallen Americans is Not a Photo Op ( such as Mission Unaccomplished), it's just what it is " Paying Respect to fallen American's" !

Whether we're talking the Air Force Base or the White Cliffs, Obie's got to feel out of sorts with anything military, since he freezes up when he gets around REAL MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM.

He's a mouse loose in the house of men. Get him out of Dover before he gets under someone's feet and gets stepped on. Of course, he starting to get used to that feeling anyway. 9 months of broken promises and no direction equal a failed presidency.

Hi folks-just a driveby.  I agree with Ron about the namecalling-it turns me off, too.  On both sides, people.  I dislike Sarah Palin, but the names attached to her are demeaning and sexist.

I don't agree that calling a lie a lie is in the same category.

It is great news that the economy grew, but I would caution that much of that growth was a 'limited time offer'-that is, artificially increased demand for cars due to the cash for clunkers program.  It remans to be seen if this growth is sustainable.

For those who are interested, my grandaughter is doing well-gaining and growing-and will have surgery in January to try to repair some of the damaged kidneys.  If it is successful, she will be on maintenance meds for life, but will be otherwise healthy.  Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers.
"And a $787 billion dollar Stimulus plan produced 30,000 jobs. That's about $26 million dollars a job. Do you think you got your money's worth? "

==================================================

S T,

To put it simply, your numbers are off:

"The first direct stimulus reports showed that stimulus contracts saved or created just 30,083 jobs, prompting more Republican criticism of the $787 billion package.

The data posted Thursday was the result of the government's initial attempt at counting actual stimulus jobs. Obama administration officials stressed that data was partial -- it represented just $16 billion out of the $339 billion awarded -- but they said it exceeded their projections.

"All signs -- from private estimates to this fragmentary data -- point to the conclusion that the Recovery Act did indeed create or save about 1 million jobs in its first seven months, a much needed lift in a very difficult period for our economy," said Jared Bernstein, the chief economist for Vice President Joe Biden.

According to the White House recovery office's rough calculations, the 30,083 jobs number projects out to a total of 1.2 million jobs saved or created by the stimulus through September.

The White House recovery team said that the reported jobs number represented just 5 percent of the jobs directly saved or created by stimulus since it came out of contracts that represented only 5 percent of the stimulus spending so far. And as many jobs came directly from the spending, just as many jobs were indirect results of stimulus programs and tax cuts, the White House recovery office said. "

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/63299-first-hard-stimulus-data-finds-only-30000-jobs-saved-or-created-

Recession is over, my butt.  Is Obie finally admitting that all those jobs he promised never materialized???
We'll have HCR by early summer, no, August 1st, no, Columbus Day, no, Halloween (appropriate), no, Thanksgiving, no, Christmas . . . .

Starting to see a pattern here.

The White House recovery team said that the reported jobs number represented just 5 percent of the jobs directly saved or created by stimulus

5% is 30,000 jobs - okay - so 100% of that would be 600,000 of the phony jobs the WH has claimed to created or "saved". So lets recalculate - that's $1.3 million dollars per job.

Just where do you go to get one of those jobs?
And a $787 billion dollar Stimulus plan produced 30,000 jobs. That's about $26 million dollars a job. Do you think you got your money's worth? S T Reynolds (Sent Thursday, October 29, 2009 9:47 AM)

---------------------------------------------------

There is no solid numbers on how many jobs it produced or saved, and both sides are guilty at throwing them out there.  30,000 on the low side, 1,000,000 saved on the updside...both wrong, both far off.

Also 787 billion dollars hasn't been spent, it's been allocated...and even the money that has been spent, not all of it has been put in place.

For the amount of the stimulus that has not been put to work, we are getting the makings of a turnaround.

That's the best in 2 years...

The plane is being pulled out of a nosedive.  As a passenger, you should be happy.
Thanks for the update no joe - so glad to hear your granddaughter is doing well - you just made my day! :)
If I were a writer, I would suggest that the President is in the final phase of making his decision regarding Afghanistan...he is in deep and soulful prayer that his determinations are worthy of those who now serve and those who have served and lost their lives in a war(s) to be deemed by history as just or unjust...The President is a kind and compassionate human being with the ability to govern from an intellectual perspective without losing sight of the hearts and souls of those of our military and their loved ones.  The photo causes reflection.  My heart aches for the families and all of us as we struggle with the wrath of an evil war(s).  God bless America.  God bless our service men and women.  God bless you, Mr. President, as you try to hold this republic together...
Feisty: I enjoy your feisty comments just the way they are.  Don't change a thing and keep whacking the Republicans. We are all different and it our differences that make us one whole nation.
"it should keep the left from being overly critical as he's absorbed the cost of his decision from every angle --" i guess "the place for politics" had to find some political spin on even this somber, respectful, heartbreaking and patriotic event.

how interesting you equate those who are questioning the cost in blood and treasure to another of bush's wars as "those on the left;" when in today's salon.com there is a piece by christopher buckely giving his opinion to president obama has "it is time to get out."

first read, you have provided a good service but respect your readers, and responders, and give us more than just a typical, inside the beltway, superficial analysis. we are smarter than that.
Recession is over, my butt.  Is Obie finally admitting that all those jobs he promised never materialized??? Willing to Work (Sent Thursday, October 29, 2009 9:56 AM)

Something tells me even if unemployement was at 1% you still wouldn't have a job.

Employers also hire people with a good attitude,

and yours sucks.
Thank you Mr. President. I know that many are going to deride this as just a photo op.Yes I know that President Bush did this to. To my mind there can be no greater reminder to anybody of the awesome responsibilty that the CIC holds. I also do not belive that anyone but the most jaded can not be affected by witnessing this.Yes this is what rests on the decisions that you make or don't. I have told my young son that most of the decisions made can be fixed This is the ultimate decision and cannot be fixed. You owe these young men and women the respect to not put them in the position to make this ultimate sacrifice unless it is going to be worth the sacrifice that they make.We are in a period of transition right now but I hope and pray that your ultimate direction will take this into consideration. It ain't politics people it's life and while I don't believe in my heart that G. Bush did it for politics I'm pretty sure that some of the other folks did. Please think about it long and hard Mr. President because if you use this terrible power in the wrong way and if you have any feeling it will haunt you forever. Just ask Lyndon Johnson and Robert McNamera
When did we ever see Bush viewing the return of bodies from his war in such a manner? I don't recall it ever happening. He preferred to shield casualties from the media and from the public.

The GDP shows the most growth in 2 years. That's good news. It looks like the recession is coming to an end. Unfortunately jobs are a trailing indicator and so there will be many unemployed people well into next year and beyond.

I have also heard that a new version of the healthcare consumer option will be announced soon. This should be much better than what has been proposed to date. We shall see.

So the RNC chairman is endorsing Republican candidates, how newsworthy is that?  What would one expect? I suppose the DNC chairman is endorsing the Democratic candidate.....stop the presses this is big, really big news. Come on FR you can do better than that. News is supposed to be unusual, the new happenings, something unexpected. Are you more like FOX now being more entertainment than real news?
