HCAN's 'Health Care Mash'

Posted: Friday, October 30, 2009 1:16 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
The liberal group Health Care for America Now (HCAN) has a new Web video that combines the health-care debate and Halloween. The scary monsters in this movie? In HCAN's eyes, it's the health insurers.

>>> Jody, Iowa: I worked all my life and willingly paid my fair share of taxes for the good of all.

That Fair Share has been taken by the government 100 times over. They have enough money, they have plenty. They want to spend a trillion dollars over ten years on health care? Go for it. Take the money they are getting now and reallocate it to health care. Prioritize it. Make choices. The only choice Washington DC is making is when asked to pick A or B, they say "We pick Both"! That ends now. Make a choice on what you want America, make it with the money that the government is getting now. The government is getting their Fair Share. They get no more.
First Read: "The scary monsters in this movie? In HCAN's eyes, it's the health insurers. "

Sure. The same insurers who were told in secret non-transparent meetings with Obama that they should just dummy up because any law Obama signed would force  people to purchase insurance policies from, you guessed it, the mean old nasty insurance companies.
Well, we all know what Boris Karloff did for health care.
And Nancy Pelosi wore a scary mask when she gave her speech on the Capital steps yestrday.

From Huff Post:

'...Fox News Poll: Most Blame Bush for Economy
 By David Weigel 10/30/09 9:58 AM
Here’s a somewhat surprising result from the new Fox News poll. Asked which president is “more responsible for the current state of the economy,” only 18 percent say President Obama. Fifty-eight percent say former President George W. Bush. Nine percent blame both of them. Republicans are the only subgroup of voters who blame Obama, and only by a six-point margin of 35 percent to 29 percent.

What’s striking about this is that the numbers have only marginally gotten worse for President Obama in the three months since Fox News last asked this question. In July, it was 16 percent who blamed Obama and 61 percent who blamed Bush. That is, needless to say, not what Fox News viewers hear when they tune into the network. But it’s essential to understanding why the president remains popular and why Republicans are failing to really capitalize on economic gloom...'

A little Halloween humor making monsters out of insurance companies is worth a try.

A taxpayer.  I'd be perfectly happy if they took the entire $85-100 billion out of the defense budget; there's enough pork spending there to more than cover health care reform.  Do you make over $500,000 and do you have a gold cadillac insurance plan?  If yes, you have a right to complain.  I would like to see the wealthy pay their fair share in taxes; they pay at a lower rate than most of us because they have more deductions.  Just ask Warren Buffet who stated that he pays a lower tax rate than his secretary.  Whether you realize it or not, your ever-increasing health insurance premiums are a tax, one paid directly to the CEO's and shareholders who control the health care you get; your employer gives you less of a raise to pay for the ever-increasing premiums; and each premium increase and smaller raise is the equivalent of a tax hike.

More imposters on FR, today?

Really?  You stepped in a pile of dog poop!!

"We can start with Richard Clarke’s testimony to the 9/11 Commission. In his prepared statement, which he read publicly on March 24, 2004, he makes a point of not only disputing the claim, but he also makes the point that President Clinton really made counter-terrorism one of his top priorities.

The Clinton/Gore administration went after Bin Laden right up to point of Bush entered the White House and had the Bush administration taken national security briefings from the Clinton anti-terror team seriously, the Twin Towers might still be standing.

Instead the Bush team, including National Security Advisor Condi Rice dismissed Sandy Berger, Richard Clarke, and the Clinton team's warning as paranoia and were literally on vacation when ominous intelligence noise should have terrified them awake. Clinton was accused of being "obsessed with Bin Laden" and, as Republican Congressmen like Tom Delay and Arlen Specter insinuated, of trying to distract people from the Lewinsky scandal."

You're clueless!! More terror suspects were convicted during Clinton's administration before 9/11 than were convicted in Bush's reign after 9/11.

The 9/11 Commission’s findings backs this up!!

Memo:  "bin Laden determined to strike inside Us"

Karma is going to bite you (Alter Ego #1

Obviously you don't know how to read. Slower this time, just for you my little buckeroo. The taxpayers paid their taxes to get the services. Daley sold off those services to a third party for massive amounts of money that only he can spend. No taxpayer received a dime from the sale. They paid for it, so you'd think they'd get a check in the mail when it was sold, but no, they didn't. The third party, wanting to make more then they paid for what they bought, jacked up the prices on the services to the taxpayers, for the very same service they had already paid for, thus Daley made the taxpayers pay twice.

Prices only go down if there is competition. There is only one parking meter in the place you park, not six. You don't have 10 different water pipes coming into your house (well, maybe you do, but that happended that time when you went off your meds). You only have one electric wire connected to your junction box, not 17 of them. You don't have a choice on some things.

Clear now? Do you get it? I doubt it. But at least I tried.
Have another toke.
Big Al in Chicago- Vote early and vote often! (Sent Friday, October 30, 2009 1:07 PM)

Well, Big Al, now that you mention it, yes!! Bush allowed banks to loan money to people that were unemployed, hence the housing market crash; he allowed Wall Street do whatever it wished, he was truly deregulation’s best friend!! But the biggest blunder, the worst foreign policy disaster in our country's history, Bush started a war with a country that did nothing to us, Iraq, and just how much of the deficit do you think was created because of that war?  He blew Afghanistan, where we were actually succeeding, to send troops to Iraq to do something that didn't need to be done!! WMD?  A joke; not even a can of RAID was found in Iraq!!

Bush told us that we were invading Iraq to destroy their weapons of mass destruction. Then Bush said those weapons probably didn't exist, maybe never existed. Apparently that didn't matter. Except that it does matter. I know in your "support the troops" mindset, we're not supposed to say that, as you then call us "unpatriotic." But it's also called honesty, and dishonesty matters.

It matters that the infrastructure of a foreign nation that couldn't defend itself against us has been destroyed on the grounds that it was a military threat to the world. 2.) It matters that it was destroyed by us under a new doctrine of "pre-emptive war" when there was apparently nothing worth pre-empting. 3.) It surely matters to the families here whose sons went to war to make the world safe from weapons of mass destruction and will never come home. 4.) It matters to families in the United States whose life support programs were ended, whose medical insurance ran out, whose day care programs were eliminated so we could spend the money on sending an army to do what did not need to be done. 5.) It matters to the Iraqi girl whose face was burned by a lamp that toppled over as a result of a U.S. bombing run. 6.) It matters to Ali, the young Iraqi boy who lost his family and both arms in a U.S. air attack. 7.) It matters to the people in Baghdad whose water supply is now fetid, whose electricity is gone, whose streets are unsafe, whose 158 government ministries' buildings and all their records have been destroyed, whose cultural heritage and social system has been looted and whose cities teem with anti-American protests. 8.) It matters that the people we say we "liberated" do not feel liberated in the midst of the lawlessness, destruction, civil war and wholesale social suffering that so-called liberation created. 9.) It matters to the United Nations whose integrity was impugned, whose authority was denied, whose inspection teams were overlooked in the process of technical evaluation and disarmament. 10.) It matters to the reputation of the United States in the eyes of the world, both now and for decades to come. 11.) And surely it matters to the integrity of this nation whether or not its intelligence gathering agencies have any real intelligence or not before we launch a military armada on its say-so. 12.) And it should matter whether or not our government is either incompetent, which Bush is and didn't know what they were doing; however, I believe they did, or were dishonest and refused to say, which the sad reality is!

The unspoken truth is that either as a people we were misled or we were lied to, about the real reason for this war. Either we made a huge and unforgivable mistake or an arrogant or ignorant mistake. We have been swaggering around the world like a blind giant, flailing in all directions while the rest of the world watches in horror or ridicule. If Bill Clinton's definition of "is" matters, surely this matters. If a president's sex life matters, surely a president's use of global force against some of the weakest people in the world matters. If a president's word in a court of law about a private indiscretion matters, surely a president's word to the community of nations and the security of millions of people matters. And if not, why not? If not, surely there is something as wrong with us as citizens, as thinkers, as there must be with some facet of the government. If a war that the majority of Americans say is "wrong" but Bush deems them "right", what kind of national morality is that? Of what are we really capable as a nation if the considered judgment of politicians and people around the world means nothing to us as a people? What is the depth of the American soul if we can allow destruction to be done in our name and the name of "liberation" and Bush, at a point refused to give an accounting of its costs, both personal and public? We like to take comfort in the notion that people make a distinction between our government and ourselves. We like to say that the people of the world love Americans, they simply mistrust our government. But excoriating a distant and anonymous "government" for wreaking rubble on a nation in pretence of good requires very little of either character or intelligence.

TOKE on that, fool!!

Bin Laden struck in the U.S. in 1993.

And against U.S. territory in the Khobar Towers bombing.

And against U.S. military assets in October of 2000.

That he wished to attack the U.S. was well known and your interpretation of the daily briefing is completely self-serving because that's what you want to believe.

The briefing was very detailed in its ambiguity and no conclusions could be drawn from it as to tactics, timing or location.

The 9/11 commission never came to a conclusion that the attacks were preventable, but did point out weaknesses in the intelligence agencies that pre-dated Bush, and possibly even Clinton, though Bush did hold over Clinton's CIA and FBI directors.

Personally, I blame the terrorists.  I choose to hate the terrorists, not my president.

"Progressive" Dems are happy with Peolsi's bill; "Blue Dog" Dems uncomfortable and want amendments; Repubs are up in arms.  The predictable knee-jerk reactionists on this board mirror the "I can't think for myself" malady that is destroying this country.

Wake up folks; the Bushies screwed us; the Dems are screwing us now (I'd say Obaama, but he hasn't actually DONE anything) and "Pelosicare" and whatever reconciled w/Senate version actually passes will:

1.  Increase the Deficit;
2.  NOT result in covering 100% of U. S. Population;
3.  Increase taxes on middle-class;
4.  Kill job creation ($500K cap on payroll means small businesses just won't hire people - no incentive to grow);
5.  Lead to health insurers exiting the market, leading to single-payer care;
6.  Lead to government beauracracy rationing care.

The solution - vote EVERY incumbent out of office at next election; Obama will self-destruct and not be re-elected in 2012.

"I do not feel that any President should be blamed for acts of terrorism.  Both parties do their best to keep us safe; they rely on intelligence and that is never perfect."

Really?

ACTION: First  World Trade Center,February 26, 1993. A car dentonates with 1,200 pounds of explosives in the World Trade Center parking garage killing six and injuring almost thousand. Bin Laden intended to topple the towers,which he finally did on 11 September 2001.

RESPONSE:   Plot mastermind Ramzi Ahmed Yousef captured in 1995, convicted in November 1997, and sentenced to 240 years in prison. Four followers of the radical Egyptian cleric Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman captured, convicted in March 1994, and each are sentenced to 240 years in prison.

ACTION:  American military camp  Riyadh, Saudi Arabia,
November 13, 1995. A van is detonated killing seven including five Americans.

RESPONSE:  Saudi Arabian police arrest and behead four Saudi nationals in May 1996. The Saudis deny US agents access to the suspects and claim the men confessed to the attack. As you will discover, the Saudi government will repeatedly interfere or hinder American investigations and still do today. Considering Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah counts the Bush family as close friends, it's troubling that the Saudis were not more cooperative.

ACTION:  Khobar Towers - Saudi apartment housing American soldiers, June 25, 1996. A truck explodes with 5,000 pounds of explosives at the Khobar Towers apartments in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and kill 19 Americans.

RESPONSE:  The Saudis arrest 13 Saudis and a Lebanese chemist but again deny US agents attempts to question the suspects.  Those suspects are still today in Saudi custody, despite being convicted by a federal grand jury in 2001. Again, you hve to wonder why George Bush didn't use his friendly relationship with the Saudi royalty to give US prosecuters access to the suspects who must have valuable information.

ACTION:  US Embassy in Africa, August 7, 1998. The US embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania are destroyed by car bombs which kill 224 people and wound 5,000.

RESPONSE:  Four followers of Osama bin Laden caught, convicted in U.S. federal court, and sentenced to life in prison without parole. In response, Clinton orders missile strikes in an effort to kill Osama bin Laden in August 1998. Republicans (and the media) accuse Clinton of trying manufacture a crisis to get people to stop talking about Monica S. Lewinsky.

Some accused him of being obsessed with bin Laden and even of hysteria. Fourteen other suspects were indicted and like bin Laden remain at large. Three Londoners fought extradition.

ACTION:  USS Cole, October 12, 2000.  Two suicide bombers detonate explosives on a skiff next to the USS Cole in Aden, Yemen, killing 17 American sailors and injured 37 more.

RESPONSE:  This time Republicans can actually say Clinton did not convict anybody related to the attack. Why? Because the attack occurred just ONE month before the 2000 election!  If they really expected Clinton to convict anyone in a month, then they need to ask why George Bush didn't capture bin Laden in EIGHT years!

A Saudi, Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, supposedly confessed to plotting the attack but has testfied that he only confessed due to CIA torture tactics implemented during Bush's reign.

Besides the moral implications that stem from possibly jailing and torturing an innocent man (though al-Nashiri is no angel), the information al-Nashiri provided is suspect.

Further by torturing him, did the Bush administration make a martyr out of a criminal (he claims to have essentially conned bin Laden) and further alienate Muslims?

Case closed; William Jefferson Clinton did much more than George W. Bush ever did, and much smarter!!
Personally, I blame the terrorists.  I choose to hate the terrorists, not my president.

The middle class gets duped time and again by the GOP mantra of "we'll cut taxes for you" only the taxes cut aren't for the middle class or those who need it most.  Wake up, the GOP lines the pockets of the wealthiest 10% with every tax cut they give and Reagan started it declaring those tax cuts would trickle down through the economy.  The result, the middle class shrunk, the disparity between the classes grew even larger, and the numbers falling to the poverty level grew.  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people making as much money as they can but don't promise to cut taxes and then place the greater tax burden on the middle class to give them even more.

You can trust or not trust people in Washington all you want. Just don't give them any more power (or money) then they need. The Democrats seem to be happy with letting 500+ people located on the East coast run their lives. Not quite sure where they develop all that trust for those elected dopes.
