Almost $1B in stimulus funds to NY-23

Posted: Monday, November 02, 2009 2:29 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
The New York governor’s office just released county-by-county data on stimulus spending. (Here, here, and here.) It breaks down where -- and on what -- money was spent.

A First Read analysis of the data shows that almost $1 billion was allocated to counties in -- either wholly or partially -- New York’s 23rd congressional district.

The six counties that are completely in the district -- Clinton, Franklin, Saint Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis, and Oswego -- received almost $326 million.

An additional $602 million was allocated to the five counties that are partially in the district -- Oneida, Madison, Hamilton, Essex, and Fulton.

There is no data available on the number of jobs created by county, a spokesman for the governor’s office said.

Jobs have been a big issue in Upstate New York. It’s something Hillary Clinton campaigned on when she ran for Senate, and what every gubernatorial candidate promises to change when they campaign Upstate. New York State has been particularly hard hit by manufacturing jobs losses. In the past decade, since 1999, New York has lost more than 293,000 manufacturing jobs.

The economy grew 3.5 the Commerce Department reported  That is the fastest advance since 2007 which was on you right fringe, lunatic, wing nuts' hero, Georgie boy's, watch.
Businesses couldn’t live off their unmoved inventory. So, therefore, businesses fired or laid off employees because of the slowing down of the economy. Therefore now things will start to turn around so the businesses will start to hire again.
The Commerce Department sees a growth 3.5 you don’t, right fringe, lunatic wing nuts.
President Obama is trying to avoid another major depression and from historical trends it appears to be happening.
Of the 787 billion 1/3 is going to go now into small business now. You right fringe, lunatic wing nuts dismiss the growth. You righties can not expect or accept anything but doom and gloom and a man child in the White House. How stupid and devoid of you.
NY will continue to lose jobs. The state is an absolute mess because of it's high taxes. Businesses have pulled up stakes and moved to other states, or out of the country. Now the "rich" people are moving out too, all because of the high taxes. There are no jobs being created by the Stimulus, that much has been proven. And there will be none created in NY-23, not until the Democrats give back some of the tax money they stole from the people. And the billion thatw as spent in NY-23? Just more welfare to the people that live there, just enough to have them get by for a few more years until they too will have to leave.
This is what firm Democratic control of a state gets you. Same as in Michigan.
I know! To solve the problem, we should raise taxes!!
Where I live on the left coast we have seen quite a few "stimulus" projects going on. It seems to be helping keep jobs if not creating them. This could have been far worse without the stimulus.
Ok NY 23, GIVE IT BACK!!!

Well, if you have to hang on to something for the near trillion Obama spent, I guess you can hang on to that myth. Can't prove it wrong, but you can't prove it right either.
They refuse to accept that Bush allowed banks to loan hundreds of thousands of dollars to people to buy homes that were unemployed!!

Do unemployed homes need jobs?

With which newspaper are you employed?
ALMOST $1B IN STIMULUS FUNDS TO NY-23

That's a headline that belongs in a NY newspaper, I fail to see why anyone outside of NY would find it of any use, you cats need to get out more there is a whole great big country outside of NY, on second thought, stay there.
Not at all... just pointing out that the 'right' DEMANDS facts & back up... (even though they NEVER provide any) and then when confronted with some... they STILL bitch!

There's no winning with that bunch of whiners! lol lol lol

Growth is fine, but just like a liberal, you think it's the only measure. Growth without jobs is what we have, and not the made-up ones Obama and Biden are pushing. And look at how much these stimulus plans are costing the country too. Ever hear of service on the debt? That's the money the US has to pay to the holders of the US Treasury bonds every year. It with more debt, that means their are larger payments. It's getting to be nearly a half a trillion dollars per year to pay for that service. With Obama adding more debt at every turn, that service will only increase. For every payment on the debt, jobs are lost because that's real tax dollars going out the door.
FirstRead, keep up. We write you post.  Quit being rude.
MSNBC: "Geithner on taxes: Also on “Meet” yesterday, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner didn’t rule out the Obama administration having to raise taxes to shore up the nation’s debt, and he struggled mightily NOT to actually admit it."

----------------------------------------------
Should read:
"Geithner on taxes: "Rangel and I don't have to pay them but YOU do!"

Holy Cow Batman!

Can we say the Democrat Fix is On?

It's terrible what that means to many needy American's who will get screwed by the liberals for political reasons.

Shameful politics at his best.

Disgraceful.

Sorry OFF TOPIC- Why is Joe Wilson blaming the President for the shortage of the H1N1 Vaccine when he voted against funding it? This is a perfect example of Party of No, but I'll blame the President!

When are some of you going to see the hypocrisy! Sheesh!

Any one heard from Dick in Washington today?  Isn't it about time he chimes in with an insult or two???
Stick it to the man.  FYI, Franks and democrats had written legislation to eliminate some of the problems you refer to but Bush threatened to veto so what was the point.  Guess it is easy to keep blaming Franks and Dodd for the failures of the republicans to regulate anything let alone enforce the regulations that were in place.
Fiesty and the others have really really really gone off the deep end!! You LIBS need to give it a break your remarks just SCREAMS WE ARE DESPERATE!! Your LIBBY DEMS are F@cking it up just ADMIT IT and move on!! How are things going up there in ILL and out in California BANKRUPT YET!! IOUs anyone! I know both of you are UNEMPLOYED because you are on here WAY TOO MUCH!! Dont worry your FREE CHECK from BARRY is on its way! Try not to spend it too quick it may STIMULATE the economy and might create a real job and not FUNNY MATH JOB CREATION OHHH WAIT (SAVE)A JOB YEAH YEAH Thats it !!
there never seems to be any data, your saving jobs that taxpayers pay for, what about those who dont depend on tax-payer funds........we know the money goes to the votes......go figure
the economy grew 3.5% in the quarter because of govt spending...and just like cash for clunkers boosted car sales and cash for 1rst time homeowners boosted home sales  the 4th quarter will continue with this dead cat bounce and when the money runs out the double dip recession will become reality and stagflation will rear its bloody head as unemployment increases and the monetizing of the debt leads to double digit inflation...3.5% gdp  wait till its revised no one will report the number
Id Like to gather all the plants that post on here and the so called journalist @ first read together in one place then id like to rent a helicopter Then id drink a ton of apple cider (till i got the shits)Then id hang my ass out the side of the helicopter and squirt dhiareah on every last one of you douchbags.
I wonder how much of the stimulus went to the low income area like Harlem, Spanish Harlem etc
