Dems try to boost Daggett in robocalls

Posted: Monday, November 02, 2009 3:15 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
In New Jersey, the state Democratic party appears to be running robocalls targeting Republican base voters, bashing Chris Christie (R) and urging them to "Remember Chris Daggett's words: 'It's never wrong to vote for the right person.'"

That's a line, by the way, that Daggett (I) likes to use.

You can here the audio here in an article by the Star-Ledger, the New Jersey paper that first reported the story.

Daggett's campaign has said a lot about the frustration of New Jersey voters. And about just what an impact he's had -- albeit inconsistent. As Daggett's numbers started to rise, Christie's started to drop, and the Republican Governors Association took notice.

Video
: N.J. Gov. Jon Corzine and Republican Chris Christie are darting through the state, in a final push for votes in a race that's too close to call.

It started running ads against Daggett, his negatives started going up and Christie started pulling back into the lead or at least closer in most polls. When all the votes are counted Tuesday, if Christie pulls it off, the RGA certainly deserves some credit here.

Democrats are noticing the dropoff and that voters who were inclined to Christie are starting to go back to him, and are now trying to figure out a way to stop the flow.

Again, Daggett won't win here, but his impact will be something political observers will have to factor in when talking about this race. Of course, Jon Corzine's (D) camp acts like Daggett doesn't even exist, and that his candidacy (and Christie's floundering) have nothing to do with the fact that their candidate even has a shot.

Hey Mo... you think he uses that elitest 'fancy' mustard? lol lol lol

My guess is his preference is that plain old yellow stuff... lol lol lol
The only way Corzine can win is if Daggett siphons off enough indies from Christie, so the strategy is both understandable and pretty much their only option...pity poor new jersey, whoever wins...
I'll be glad when the polls close tomorrow.  The only thing we're voting on in my hometown are city coucil representatives.  Complacency at the voter polls means we get what we deserve.  VOTE.

Off topic and back to Afghanistan.  Not sure how accurate this number is but Bill Moyers mentioned it and it seems reasonable.  The cost for one military person to fight in Afghanistan is $1 billion per year.  Probably an accurate number considering the cost of training, transportation, equipment, food, fuel, ammunition, etc.  If we send 40,000, that is $400 billion per year.  In a little over two years, we will have spent what health care reform will cost over 10 years.  The media needs to push hard questioning the elected leaders demanding immediate increase in troops:  what does the cost do to our budget deficit and our national debt; where do we find the money; what will they cut to support it?  No matter what party one aligns with, it is a disgrace that republicans spend billions fighting wars but are unwilling to spend money on America and America's people.
Why are the Democrats having to fight So Hard for this?

The beginning of the end of the lunacy?
How low is this? The Democrats are trying to bump a 3rd party candidates numbers so he'll split the Republican vote? At least it's not surprising, it's win at all costs for the DemocRats.
The new Rasmussen survey finds 42 percent favoring the health care plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats -- down a bit from a week ago. 54 percent of the public is opposed. 23 percent of all voters strongly support the plan, with 44 percent strongly opposed.

Welcome to failure Democrats. A place you are very much familar with.
You gotta love it--Dems giving the right some of their own medicine!!!

This is the right's new motto: Get the shotgun Martha, the herd needs a thinnin'!!!
We want Christie; we cannot allow Obama and the dems to destroy the beautiful American nation.  Imagine bailing out crooks; putting our boys at risk in Afghanistan; partying with the bankers.  No, there is no way we can allow the dems back in in NJ.
Isn't this the same thing that Palin and McCain did that the Democrats were whining about last year?

Yep, it sure was. I thought so.

Stupid is stupid only when you're not looking in the mirror it seems. Classic one way street thinking on the liberals part. Gotcha!
Sad the democratic candidate is so pathetic the only way he has a chance is by democrats promoting an independent to siphon votes from the republican. If NJ falls for that they deserve the corrupt failure of a democrat.
Gosh, I hate those Robocalls. Whenever I get one, I just vote for the other guy.

Enjoy your Republican leadership in Virginia! Things will improve greatly for you.
You mean promoting a third party candidate to split the vote is immoral?  Doesn't anyone remember how the republicans cozied up to Ralph Nader in 2000?
Christie wins in a walk tomorrow. Corzine can then drive his SUV up and down the NJ Turnpike all he wants.
Although Daggett may be the ideal candidate for many conservatives, I think that republican voters should come together and choose to send their message by actually voting out Corzine instead of fighting with the inlaws and causing both Daggett and Christie to loose to an inept and struggling governor Corzine.  If Daggett really believes that Corzine needs to be ousted, he should conceed (since he MUST know by now that he's not going to win. period.) and throw his support behind Christie to smash Corzine.  He should look at it as though it's better to drop out and let Christie win then to stay in the race and deliver the race to Corzine.
Just another ploy right out of the ACORN playbook.
27% Say Hillary Would Be Better President Than Obama

Just 14% of U.S. voters say Hillary Clinton would be doing a worse job as president than Barack Obama if she had won last year’s Democratic presidential nomination.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 27% of voters think Clinton would be doing a better job as president while 49% say she would be performing about the same.

Democrats who think things would be different with Clinton are evenly divided between whether they’d be better or worse. Republicans and unaffiliated voters who think things would be different tend to believe Clinton would have done a better job as President.

Perhaps one explanation for this is that voters see Obama as more politically liberal than Clinton. Forty-nine percent (49%) say Clinton is a liberal, but 38% see her as a moderate. By comparison, 74% say Obama is a liberal, while just 20% view him as a moderate"

Just sayin'

Kind of like what Rove did to McCain in South Carolina in 2000 you mean?

I thought so!!
Corzine the womenizer Do you know why
New Jersey has the highest state/local tax rate in the country.
It has the 3rd highest corporate tax rate.
Only 4 other states have sales tax rates (7%) as high as New Jersey.
We have the highest property tax rates in the nation.
We have a projected 2010 budget deficit of $10 billion.
Our auto insurance rates are 3rd highest in the nation.
Imagine that, republicans complaining that this robo call is an unfair tactic.  Karl Rove, you left behind a legacy of your own and the opposing party noticed.
Jody, Iowa - i don't know what you or Bill Moyer are smoking, but please think about what you're saying before you spew it into a public forum.  1 Billion dollars is the cost of one soldier in Afghan?  Are you smoking pot?  A Billion freaking dollars?  The cost to employ a soldier over an average SIX YEAR enlistment would probably be around $750,000 (including training, gear, transportation, pay and benefits).  That includes deployments.  For lower ranks it would be less, and much less if the individual never deployed.  Get your facts straight.  A billion dollars...good grief.  That's like suggesting that an apple costs $1,000 dollars in a serious conversation.
NJ deserves exactly what it gets if it puts Corzine back in there.  This isn't a D or R thing...Corzine is just simply an awful governor regardless of party.
And BTW, your moniker fits you. In the middle of a sandwich between Limbaugh and Fox.

WoW, Whata grand post FRR!!!!  Has nothing to do with the post itself...just bashes someone else and comes up with some fanciful terms...

Let me show you how to do it better.

Obama has campaigned 5 times for Corzine recently, he is still losing/and or too close to call.  He is highly unpopular in his own State/has not been effective.  And yet the Democrats want him in there bad.  so bad, they are trying to play up the independant so he takes some votes from the Republican!  While it is politics, it is still gutter politics, run on your record Corzine...oops looks like nothing good there to run on. lol, hoping to get dragged to the Gate by Obama's coattails..."I have Obama by my side, should say it all". WoW, so Obama is it! Nothing else to hang his hat.

Now FRR, try it sometime...A post on the issues!
Let's  hear some of the liberal loyals defend this political skulldugery.

Step up and show how the adults are in charge now.

The only corrupt failures in politics today are the RepubliKlans who abandoned George W the Stupid and Dick the Coward like rats off a sinking ship thinking people won't remember who got us where we are today.  However,it isn't working. No matter how hard they try, Republiklanners can't get rid of the stench of corruption, greed and hypocricy that sent them down the toilet in 2008! The stench still clings to them like rotten fish.
In a country with an out of control spender in the White House, the last thing we need is an out of control spender in the state house.  Corzine is a corrupt crook who needs to be sent packing!

this is strangly familiar to another poster from FR past that would post only Rasmussen polls with horribly skewed figures.

So George W. Bush wasn't an out of control spender? We magically got into this mess after January 20, 2009? Delusional aren't you? Were it not for Dicky lil Georgie would have been a bigger failure than he was. No, daddy wasn't going to bail him out like he did every other time.

2006 and the smirk disappeared from li'l George but that sneer on Dicky just got worse.

Stay tuned for the never ending saga of the most failed president in US History...George W. Bush....And don't forget to send in those ACORN box tops, kiddies, for great prizes in NJ, NY and other fine places.

No, Jackson, "Mr. Civil Rights for Profit," did that all on his own!!
A play that would make Rove smile.
The health Care Problem is not going away.  The costs are tooooo high and rising twice as fast as inflation every year.  Soon, noone will be able to afford it. HSA's are certainly not the answer.  I am waiting for a republican version that will do anything to bring costs down.  To date, I have not heard one.
The Republicans are already taking a victory lap. That's funny since not one vote has been cast. Does anyone remember the NH primary in which the polls gave it to Obama by 15pts, and the voters gave it to Hillary by 5.
We have two parties in this country.  We have one party trying to go Right, to look Moderate, and another party trying to go Crazy to look like Freedom and Justice for all, as if no one else in this country loves our troops, our flag, and our freedom.  Then -- there are the Independent voters who have no party affiliation, and go where the winds of November blow them, like dry leaves, only one year after they were on-board with Obama. Bottom line, and based on our Country of NO Patience, it will be a Republican year, and I rest my case.
NOTE to Sarah Palin....

Daggett Baby.....Daggett.
