Democrat Bill Owens is up by just 2,500 votes or about 2%, and there are still about 11,000 absentee ballots that have to be counted. They won't start counting those until the morning, our Elections Unit tells us.

So, we're calling it a night. See you in the morning.

Even if Hoffman pulls this out, it still should make the Tea baggers nervous! This is Republican country! A Democrat has never come this close in over 100 years! Most of the absentee ballots were sent before Dede pulled out. This shows that the majority of informed voters DON'T agree with them and their rigid idea of what a Republican is!
As usual you're a day late and a dollar short.

FOX News just called it for Owens.
CNN and Fox called it for Owens
Doug Hoffman just conceded.
Democrat Bill Owens wins NY23!! CNN reported "no democrat has won this district in more than 100 years" - perhaps Sarah Palin's not so bad for the democrats after all!! LOL!! That should send the GOP a message; do not have Sarah Palin endorse ANYONE!! In addition, do not force your party’s nominee out in favor of some nut job!! Dierdre Scozzafava must be really enjoying this moment!!
Since Hoffman has conceded, I think it is safe to call the race for Owens.
Although it looks like Hoffman lost, it is not the end.  It is just another battle in the long war conservatives must fight.  Hoffman came out of nowhere and almost squeaked it out.

So lookijng forward to the next battles, and win or lose, we will not desist. but will keep on fighting to that last battle, when we will win.
I hope Owens wins or I really fear a takeover by the ultra-conservative Republicans of the Republican Party permanently.  I use to be a Republican but switched loyalties as the strident conservative movement imprisoned the Republican Party--via McCain choosing Palin.  I no longer can stand McCain for choosing Palin as his running mate when there were more qualified and moderate Republicans he could have chosen.  So if Bill Owens loses, my husband and I will change our registration from Republican to Independent.  And when and if Obama can get a strong health care bill passed before January, I will then register as a Democrat.  HE SHOULD GET RID OF "DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL TOMORROW.  `This could be his symbolic moment that would prove he is truly out for the change he promised.  I do not regret voting for Pres. Obama but he needs to start playing some "Hardball."  Get those Democrats in Congress to vote for his health plan and work on jobs, jobs, jobs.  I am rooting for Owens.  Palin, Fox News, Bohner and so on are all too small minded to be influencing voters against helping Obama bring America up to speed.  And we Americans must be willing to ante up some small tax increases in order to achieve the greatness our country has always stood for.  No pain--No gain.  No guts--No glory.
Looks like there's a tear in the bottom of that Tea Bag. The Southern Regional Republican Party has real problems ahead if Moderates and Independents are not a part of thier overall party makeup, with Neo-conservatists being the only people welcome there.

It's impossible to put the toothpaste back in the tube once one lets it out. Now that the GOP has endorsed the teabaggers, even the staunchest Republican Incumbent will have difficulty holding onto thier seats.
