Dem wins in NY-23

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Democrat Bill Owens defeated Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in New York's 23rd congressional district special election, 49%-45% (with 92% of the voting in), becoming the first Democrat to control the district since at least the 1890s.

The results came in overnight and was finally called around 1:00 am ET.

It was something of an upset after it was widely considered a likely victory for Hoffman after the Republican pick, Dede Scozzafava, dropped out of the race over the weekend. Scozzafava did, however, endorse Owens -- though it was unclear what effect that would have.

It's a victory also for the DCCC, which has now won two competitive special elections in once-traditionally conservative Upstate New York since Obama has become president.

Republicans now control just two of 29 districts in New York State -- one Upstate and one in Long Island. They have lost six districts Upstate just since 2006. They control zero seats in all of New England.

of course you have no mention about the losses in VA and NJ for the Democrats. One  House seat does not change the fact that Obama could not bring the statewide contests to a win for the Dems.
This race just goes to show that when you have a bunch of loser, judgemental, hatefilled, superstars from the repub party supporting you, you had better run faster.
You biased liberal media are a joke...thank God for FOX...your country will be returned to you in 2010 when you get rid of the libertards.
IMPEACH McDonnell-
We want Virginia back!

IMPEACH Christie-
We want New Jersey back!
Say....did we hear our name being bandied about earlier yesterday??
The GOP'ers won in NJ and VA because they ran as "moderates".  They would not accept the likes of Palin to come in and campaign for them because it would have made them look that they leaned too far to the right.  In NY-23, we see the results when an extreme right wing candidate takes the reigns.

We can only hope that this is the type of candidate the the GOP will look to in 2010 and 2012.  Thanks, Rush and Sean and Glenn and Bill and Sarah, etc....

Top Dems: No Health Care Bill in 2009.

"Senior Congressional Democrats say reform before end of year is highly unlikely."

VICTORY FOR THE TEA PARTY PROTESTS!

OBAMA'S COMPETENCE IS BORDERLINE, BUT HIS INEFFECTIVENESS IS CERTAIN!
Anyone else for my '9-12' program?
Anyone??
You're forgeting about that traitor LIEberman.
I love how Fox kept trying to focus on this as big news, and now that a Dem won in 23 they wont say a dang word about it, trying to hide their shame.

MSNBC, please dedicate a 30 minute segment once a week to ripping apart MANY Fox lies, truth twists, and other junk from the past 7 days.  I would watch it every day it aired.
45% should prove to NY GOP and RNC that a conservative
should have been considered from the beginnning.
Chances are, they won't learn a lesson. What a joke.
The Westchester County Executive race needs a closer look.  The Democrats have a very big registration edge but we are the highest taxed county in the nation.  The 3term incumbent was defeated by several points.

No repubs in senate or house in both NY and NJ equals basket case states with deficits bigger than many countries. No big surprise was that the so called stimulis plan only benefited states like these two whose democrat leaderships are causing their economies to crater. Obama is taking care of his buddies in the public employee unions and saying sh_ _e it to all the other citizens.
"It was something of an upset" -------- Are you kidding? This was huge! The seat hadn't been held by a Dem in 150 yrs! Palin and the rest of the tea bagger set inserted themselves believing they "knew best". If Hoffman had won, I can imagine the crowing of "Conservatives now the future" or something just as lame! If they had won, it would have been a referendum on Pres. Obama according to you guys, even though it was expected a Republican would win. A Democrat won a seat that has been Repub for 150 yrs, and you down play it! The Palin factor did nothing and you down play it after touting how much influence her endorsement had. What's the deal?

Did Sarah see the election results from NY-23 from her house?
Boy, the endorsement of Hoffman by Palin, Beck. Limbaugh, Armory and other hate mongers sure helped Hoffman, right.
Christie and McDonnell campaigned as moderates;however; the latter will now implement his rightwing religiosity on the citizens OF Virginia. Enjoy for the next four years your rights being ursurped if you are of a certain minority and half the population OF WOMEN.
For the Republicans. Yippy! You won NJ and VA! *happy dance*  NOW, who actually has more influence when it comes to national policies? Governors or Congressmen? *crickets*

Hey Sergeant at the F.R. B.S. Police-
I am filing a missing jobs report on 600,000 jobs one B. Hussein Obama promised but never delivered in 2008. Sounds like a con artist job. Better send a detective to file a report.
We want New Jersey back!

The Democrats need health care reform to expand the base of the party:
“Now we have the unions (largest DNC PAC contributor), we have the gambling (state lottery and casino taxes) and they're the best things to have. But narcotics (healthcare) is a thing of the future. And if we don't get a piece of that action, we risk everything we have. I mean not now, but, ah, ten years from now.”
Thanks to Obama and his political coat tails, VA and NJ looks great being dark RED.
Dems won a small battle by 3 points, but lost the war.
Sure two duds lost in VA and NJ governor races. There had to be other, better candidates for the Dems but you can't win them all.

NY 23 where a Democrat hasn't won in over 100 years is a sweet victory, indeed. Had the main stream Republican not been driven out by the uberconservative that record might still stand but the Republicans were split between a radical right wing agenda and common sense slightly right of center philosophy. As long as the ubercons continue to run and to chase main stream Republicans away the Democrats will win more and more elections. Even in areas linke NY-23 which are traditionally Republican.
Boy oh boy President Obama everything he really still is President for 3 more years and Congradulation Sir for a fine year of attacking our nation's problem's we are still safe and some of us recieved tax breaks that they are not thank-ful for and go appreciate that Nobel Peace Prize because  thought you should have gotten it in Denver when America understood change had finally come to America even though the Republicans didn't the like that saying doing the same thing and getting those same result's that hurt our apperance around the country was and is called insanity hey ryhmes with Hannity see the sad thing is none of those Republican leaders did not even try and make a real outcry over that shoe throwing incident so we really need not listen them for 12 months President Obama has did his best to look at and process all of the ills of our economy and still inspires hope so take that confederate mentality  along with Armis and don't flood the boat with all of those tears.
Funny how President Obama name pops up in these elections but Sarah and the crew of we know more and have more kicked out a Republican and still lost so how many of them came to fight for a House seat you know a law maker's seat one that votes on things that really help our Nation but Good luck to those Republicans who won races.
Do you think Palin the QUITTER or Palin the LOSER
could see the NY-23rd smackdown of her right wing
flunkie from her freezing perch in Alaska??
Ok Dems, You lost two key states and you only have Mister Obamao to blame. He cannot wave the magic wand anymore. The halo is gone from around his head and he can't walk on water. His advent from Chicago has spelled trouble for the US with his brand of marxist socialism. Honestly, you do not believe that the American people will vote for someone who is a Black radical and marxist. Who in their right mind will do such a thing.  Live up to reality, Mister Obamao, the man in the mirror is beginning to crack. All he has left is his oratorical gift, nothing else and an empty suit and that is beginning to shrivel. Bye, bye Mister Obamao.
