Wilson wants Dems to take public option

From NBC’s Madeline Rullo
After receiving national fame for his "You lie!" outburst during President Obama's healthcare speech before a joint session of Congress in September, Rep. Joe Wilson is speaking out again.

It's still about healthcare, but this time he's speaking in turn. Wilson is introducing an amendment for the Democratic healthcare bill, requiring all members of Congress to enroll in the public option.

Wilson says he has been bombarded with questions from American citizens, "If this public option is so good, then why don't the congressmen take the plan? After about eight times of bringing this up, I said, ‘Enough already.’ I said, ‘I would introduce that when I come back to Washington.’”

And he has.

"People have spoken up and they're making a difference,” Wilson said, holding up the House bill that will be brought to the floor later this week.

A handful of House Republicans joined Wilson at his news conference outside the Capitol in support of his amendment, each voicing their concern and push for members of Congress and even the president, to jump on board the public option.

REP. PHIL GINGREY, R-GA: "So as a show of good faith, why shouldn't members of Congress step forward and sign this plan to lead by example.  And I indeed would take it a step farther, maybe I'll add an additional amendment that says the President and his family, the President and his cabinet, the President and all of his czars, certainly the Secretary of Health and Human Services all should be on the public plan."

REP. STEVE SCALISE, R-LA (holding the health care bill as people laughed around the podium): "This is the ultimate, 'put your money where your mouth is' amendment."

REP. WALLY HERGER, R-CA: "This has to be the greatest hypocrisy that I have ever seen."

REP. DEAN HELLER, R-NV (Quoting the late Rep. Henry Hyde): " A quote from late great colleague Rep. Henry Hyde from Illinois when he said, members of congress would exempt themselves from gravity, if they thought they could get away from it and that's what we're trying to do with this bill."

Rep. Heller continued, challenging Pelosi's stance on her bill. "Speaker Pelosi does not want to give up her private jet, Speaker Pelosi does not want to give up her limousine services and I'll tell you right now, she does not want to give up her Cadillac healthcare, something that she has right now and that's wrong."

There was no word is any of these Republicans would vote for the health-reform bill if Democrats take up their challenge.

That halo above Obama's head. Is that real, or is it fake?
Time for the Democrats to drag Grayson back on to the floor to get things back in order. Unless they can't get him off the msnbc set.
Wow, I agree with a Republican twice in one day.  That election yesterday must have 'cured' me!

(just kidding fellow libbies)

And we shall know them by their "Nay" vote on this one!
It's a gimmick amendment by Wilson. Kind of like the Democrats Health Care bill is a gimmick.
uh, but I do take exception to the 'private jet' comment.  Fat B@st@rd Hastert received private flight accomodations post september 11th, as the 2nd in line to the Presidency.  If it is good enough for the Republican Speaker of the House, it is damn well good enough for the Democratic Speaker.  Quit your damn belly aching, Heller.  PS.  Ensign needs a knee jerk reactionary.  Go prop him up for awhile.
On becoming the Goober Party

Republicans are becoming more Southern and more rural

Good Luck with that

From Washington Monthly:

'...REGIONAL TROUBLE....
As everyone now knows, Bill Owens will be the first Democrat to represent New York's 23rd since the mid-19th century, after defeating Doug Hoffman yesterday. This got me thinking about the representation of the region.

New York has 29 congressional districts. As of today, the state is represented by 27 Democrats. As recently as a few years ago, Dems had "only" 21 seats from New York.

What's more, New England, made up of six states, has 22 congressional districts. Currently, the region is represented by 22 Democrats.

So, north of the Pennsylvania border, there 51 congressional districts representing 34 million people. Republicans have a whopping two seats.

Just a random observation...'

Bravo! Bravo!! BRAVO!!!!

EVERYONE, every citizen of the U.S., including Obie and his girls, should be forced into the EXACT same plan that the American people are being forced into.
Democratic leadership indicates no action on HCR until next year, but that's not newsworthy or up for comment here. But hey, what's Joe Wilson up to today?....Drops lantern and exits...:(
Here's a thought, Mr. Wilson, why not say you will vote YES on HCR if Congress adds your amendment.
Better yet, Mr. Wilson, when you put forth your amendment, how about opening up the public option for all Americans.  If the GOP were in the majority, just how many of the republicans making these comments would vote for their amendment?  crickets.

Congressman "you lie" Wilson was complaining yesterday about the shortage of H1N1 flu vaccine--as Keith O pointed out, Mr. Wilson forgot to mention that he voted NO for funding of additional vaccine.
HCR as we've come to know it is DEAD.  Good Riddance.
They should sign on, & if they want the "Cadillac Plan", then they should PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES, not at the TAXPAYERS ADDITIONAL EXPENSE.
This is the same Joe Wilson that brought us this little 'gem' earlier in the week right?  Yes Yes... he's such a 'poster boy' for HCR... lol lol lol

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/11/joe-wilson-says-obama-has-put-the-lives-of-americans-at-risk-due-to-h1n1-vaccine-shortage.php

In his 'defense' he might be on to something...

I say we take away the concierge health care that ALL politicians in DC take for granted... and that's funded by the tax payers $$$!

Maybe then they'll GET SERIOUS about the rest of us...

Really?? Talk about making a jackass out of yourself!! Have they read the Bill?? The public option assists those who do not, or cannot, afford healthcare, something that should be provided to every citizen of this country!!

No where in this Bill does it state ANYONE must give up their current healthcare; in fact, it's just the opposite!! President Obama has stated over and over again that no one would have to give up the healthcare they currently have, or the doctor(s) they currently have!!

HCR with a public option assists those who do not have healthcare because a.) Their employer does not provide it; or b.) An individual cannot afford it

These morons are really appealing to the lowest common denominator of their base!! I'm talking to you Sarah Palin!!

Joe Wilson:  YOU LIE!!
REP. STEVE SCALISE, R-LA (holding the health care bill as people laughed around the podium): "This is the ultimate, 'put your money where your mouth is' amendment."
I'll drink to that. Except you lairs can't put your money where you money is because your as**es are all have your heads stuck  up in the insurance companies as**es. Another dumb a** stall tactic from the "Dopes of Nope"; YOU LIE.

Inhofe: If GOP Can ‘Stall’ Or ‘Block’ Health Care Reform, It Will Be ‘A Huge Gain’ For The 2010 Elections

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/07/23/inhofe-health-huge-gain/
And all the while, Rep Wilson was able to sing the 'Horst Wessel Song'

It's a special talent of his and the reason he was selected to escort German Chancellor Merkel in congress
Absolutely. Let's get the buy-in.
The Dems never take the same prescription as the peons with whom they feign so much sympathy.

John Stroger (D), Crook County (IL) Board President went to the PRIVATE Rush Medical Center for treatment, not his namesake Stroger County Hospital.

It is good enough for YOU though!

Even Ted Kenndey would not go to Mass General, he went to Duke Univ Med Ctr for treatment, exercising his free market choice to get the BEST health care his tax-sheltered trust fund money could buy!

Chicago and Crook County- 80 years of unbroken rule by the Dems.
Fix the economy and create all those jobs first.  It's the number one issue with Americans.
Maybe Joe Wilson can get Chicken Hawk Republicans to enlist in the Speacial Forces

They should become Army commandoes !!

First up: George Bush
Next: Dick Cheney

Q: Why did the chicken cross the road ??

A: to join the Texas Air National Gurad
R-NV (Quoting the late Rep. Henry Hyde): " A quote from late great colleague Rep. Henry Hyde from Illinois when he said, members of congress would exempt themselves from gravity, if they thought they could get away from it and that's what we're trying to do with this bill."

Speaking of gravity, what planet are these nut jobs from??
This is just another republican gimmick to stall HRC. They are so pathetic.
HUH? First, it's supposed to be an OPTION. Secondly, it's an option if you're not satisfied or can't afford your current coverage. That's the whole point- why should Congress HAVE to take it???

Idiots...
How long will the dope of nope keep up there side show, they treat HCR like it's a locker room joke. They have no plan, and have nothing worthy to add, other then there never ending whinning. One would think all these do nothing republiklans would offer something not the joke they say they have offered. In there plan if you had per ex conditions, you will be turned away,There is no public option in there bill, and I'm sure they would like the taxes on there poor Insurance buddys lowered. So in a sense they have offered nothing, but they are content with being the nothing party.19% and falling, poise that Tin man.
Tell him gang since he finally made sense make it Universal health care and free or a single payer system that wil be robust.
So did Wilson and his bud's sign up?
Tell him gang since he finally made sense make it Universal health care and free or a single payer system that wil be robust.
Tell him gang since he finally made sense make it Universal health care and free or a single payer system that wil be robust.
"There was no word IS(???) any of these Republicans would vote for the health-reform bill if Democrats take up their challenge."

Nor any word on democrats willing to take the the republicans up on theirs...

Your grandstanding is even worse than theirs, as is your editing...
Bravo, Mr. Wilson!
Why stop at elected officials. All Federal employee's should be moved to the public option.
That's why they call it an "Option", for those who choose to use it, they may.

Pelosi may not want to give up her cadillac healthcare, but she doesn't seem to mind getting taxed extra on her policy to help those without.
This should go one step further by removing the clause in the house bill that states that federal employees are exempt from paying the increased tax associated with their cadillac health care plan.
Call their bluff! Put it in! It's obvious they don't know the definition of the word "Option" 1 - the power or right of choosing. 2 - something that may be or is chosen; choice. They are doing this in an attempt to make it seem mandatory for Us. I find it funny they want to make an option a requirement! CALL THEIR BLUFF! Then watch them scurry like the roaches they are when the lights are turned on!
Congress treats us like the fools we are.

Never vote for an incumbent.
REP. PHIL GINGREY, R-GA: "So as a show of good faith, why shouldn't members of Congress step forward and sign this plan to lead by example.

----------------------------------------------------

And to those who vote against it, they should give up their healthcare supplied by the taxpayers.

See, that is fair isn't it?
The healthcare bill is a scam just like the stimulus bill was.  The healthcare Bill is about saving lives like the stimulus was about saving jobs...jobs saved ...?

updated 2 hours, 5 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's economic recovery program saved 935 jobs at the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, an impressive success story for the stimulus plan. Trouble is, only 508 people work there.

About two-thirds of the 14,506 jobs claimed to be saved under one federal office, the Administration for Children and Families at Health and Human Services, actually weren't saved at all, according to a review of the latest data by The Associated Press. Instead, that figure includes more than 9,300 existing employees in hundreds of local agencies who received pay raises and benefits and whose jobs weren't saved.

But officials defended the practice of counting raises as saved jobs.
"If I give you a raise, it is going to save a portion of your job," HHS spokesman Luis Rosero said.

At Southwest Georgia Community Action Council in Moultrie, Ga., director Myrtis Mulkey-Ndawula said she followed the guidelines the Obama administration provided. She said she multiplied the 508 employees by 1.84 — the percentage pay raise they received — and came up with 935 jobs saved.
"I would say it's confusing at best," she said. "But we followed the instructions we were given."

Obama has promised the stimulus would save or create 3.5 million jobs by the end of next year, and the data released Friday represented the first head count toward that goal.

Just a few parts of the whole story as reported on AP.  So we see they just make up numbers to support thier positions and the people fall for it every time.  So I wonder how many lives they will report saving and zero cost to the government btw...Almost like the old McD's sign...1 billion lives saved , no cost...trust us!  People need to wake up to what these nutcase politicians are doing to us soon.

Madeline:
Obviously Wilson is being humorous, but there is a more important discussion so that people understand the Public Option and what it doesn't do.

There is a simple solution to healthcare.  Reid needs to DROP the public option, strengthen the Co-op plan instead, have some real Tort reform added, and add a Repeal to the Anti-Trust exemption.  Bingo: 61-63 votes in the Senate.  Then cleave off the Public Option and 300 Billion when the House bill comes to the Senate.  The new House bill has some good language that keeps Private Insurers under control.

Obama knows that it is NOT in his best interest to have the Govt. being perceived to be taking over healthcare at anytime in the future.  Obama needs to worry about Independents, not the Progressives turning out.

It was shown by the recent study that only about 3% would have the PO by 2019 and that its premiums would be HIGHER because there would be more people in with Pre-existing conditions.  The PO doesn't provide competition afterall.  DROP IT ALREADY.
Enjoy your ‘victories’ & I’ll see ya back here a year from now…

Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL (Sent Wednesday, November 04, 2009 10:01 AM)

Then this really is a great day - if we get to go a year without inbred red blabbering blogs!!!

Or, is she just lying like her leader Obama?

We'll see - if she is back in the next few days, then we have confirmed by her own record that she is a LIAR!!!

So which is it Red - are you a liar???
Lets see???
I'll go one step further. How about Congress sign up for healthcare the same way regular Americans get it?  They should have to take the healthcare package, we, as the employer choose to give them, and when they are out of office, they can have the option of continuing it with COBRA or finding another job with healthcare!  No more lifetime health insurance!!!!  Will the republicans sign that too?  Or is this all just for show?
How can anyone, regardless of party affiliation, argue with this?  What's good for the people is good for Congress.  THEY WORK FOR US.
I guess Joe can't read either.  The Public Option is limited to citizens who are not covered by an employer-based plan or cannot otherwise obtain or afford insurance in the private market.  Or is he saying he wants it opened up for everyone?  What an idiot.
Why is it that a Democrat didn't bring this up?  Pelosi should be first in line since she's one of the main mouths touting how great her public option is.
hey are you telling me that joe wilson want every member of congress to be made to inroll in the public option

Joe, I sincerely think you are a Republican trapped in a Democrats body.
I'm just not following this logic...not even as sarcasm.  The public option may not be as slick as what congress enjoys today, but if you've got nothing, it's fantastic.
Better yet Mr Wilson how about you get rid of publicly funded healthcare and join the rest of society NO HEALTHCARE if you dont pay ARE TERE NO WORKHOUSES ARE THERE NO PRISONS let them die and decrease the surplus population was that Jon BONER or scooge cant seem to recall
Rep. Heller continued, challenging Pelosi's stance on her bill. "Speaker Pelosi does not want to give up her private jet..."

------------------------------------------------

How interesting that the GOP would bring that up considering that it was President Bush who ordered that the Speaker of the House, as second in the order of succession, be afforded secure transportation on a military aircraft.

...or was Hastert the only one who was supposed to be provided with that privilege?
firstread, what about getting on your job and posting comments.
Hey Joe you have over stepped your fifteen mins of limelight. Yor self-agrandizement/importance is getting OLD real fast.
The exit polls showed that the president was NOT a factor in either Va or NJ.

Houston (Sent Wednesday, November 04, 2009 10:29 AM)

I agree with you Houston - Obama was not a factor in these elections - he spent millions of dollars and hundreds of hours trying to be relevent and to help - but he failed - he was and is completely irrelevent.

You and your other "Dopes of Hope" haven't fixed anything and have made most things worse.  These votes were not for a republican running against a dem - these votes were against a president and a party that only thinks they can solve problems by throwing money at it.

People in this country are describing themselves as Conservitive in increasing numbers - this always happens when the president and his Kool-Aid drinkers spend trillions of dollars and fail to achieve any jobs!   American is saying STOP THE SPENDING !!!

They are saying it to Republicans and Democrats.

YES, Bush spent huge amounts of money on stupid things and Obama won based on Change - But, we are now finding out that his defination of change is to SPEND MORE !!!! This is not the Change we thought we were going to get - WE WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO STEAL LESS AND SPEND LESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last night, Obama watched the HBO special about himself instead of the election results.

How narcissistic.
