Pelosi: 'We won'

Posted: Wednesday, November 04, 2009 2:16 PM by Mark Murray
Filed Under: , ,

From NBC's Madeline Rullo
At House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's weekly briefing today, she commented on last night's elections, simply stating, "We won last night."

Question: "Madame speaker, Madame speaker, do the election results last night -- do they make it harder for you to pass health care, especially to get the support from members in these swing districts?"

Pelosi's answer: "From my perspective, we won last night. We had one race that we were engaged in -- it was in northern New York. It was a race where a Republican has held a seat since the Civil War, and we won that seat. So from our standpoint, no. We had a candidate that was victorious who supports the health-care reform... So from our standpoint, we picked up voted last night, one in California [CA-10] and one in New York."

If you lefties had any doubt remaining on Pelosi's sanity, this will certainly throw cold water on that idea. The woman is nuts.
Old drum face must live next to a medical marijuana shop.
Just keep sticking your head in the sand pisslosi......you libs are doing great.
Nancy,Nancy,Nancy !!!! You ain't seen nothing yet! Wait until 2010 and you lose 40+ seats. I can't wait to hear your spin on that win!!
And this is why women cannot be President.
"From our standpoint, we think the battle is going amazingly well !!!"
You Lie!!
Pelosi's "We won" = deep-seated denial & delusion.

She must have been treated as a child like a farm animal.
Nancy, lay off the wine.  Just because you get it free from your vineyards that are worked by ILLEGAL aliens, doesn't mean you have to over indulge.
FINALLY, someone stupider than me!
This surely wins the "Baghdad Bob" prize for Spin and Denial. If Nancy Pelosi were not the House Speaker you would need to chase her down with a net and haul her off to the state mental hospital in Napa where she could join the tinfoil hat brigade. Give Captain Smith a little credit, when the iceberg was spotted they tried to steer away from it. On the other hand Captain Pelosi is saying "flank speed! course, dead ahead!"
Did Nancy cheer when she heard that Italy had convicted those CIA agents?
Ground Control to Nancy P.
One thing is for sure, people is Maine have some common sense, unlike Fricso.

___________

You go Girl!

If that statement doesn't make the righties heads EXPLODE... I don't know what will... lol lol lol
The democrats are all out in force today claiming the elections in Virginia and New Jersey meant nothing (Obama was in NJ 5 or 6 times and VA 3 times), won't admit it was a slap to Obama and the left wing of the democratic party.  The seat in NY doesn't mean anything since both the republican (who dropped out and supported the democrat) and the democrat are both liberal. The republican party of NY and the RNC didn't do their job, maybe next time they will take the time to figure out who to support.
That was the only race they were engaged in?  So Obie wasn't engaged when he campaigned for the others?

ah ha ha ha ha ha !!!   Nancy is sooooooo delusional.  Too much botox again.....
From where Pelosi stands, she's right!! She did pick up another vote in favor of HCR!! Governor's don't vote in Congress!!

She is actually right about this. The governorships have nothing to do with votes in the house.  They could have political implications down the road, but are irrelevant to the make-up of the house.

On the other hand, with Dem majorities where they are, a pick-up of one or two seats is irrelevant as well.

And a Scozzafava/Owens contest would also have been irrelevant as the outcome there would have added a Democrat vote, despite Scozzafava's scarlet "R".

The NY-23 vote, like the governorships, are relevant for the long term, not so much last night or today.

I'm curious as to what other answer Ms. Pelosi COULD have had.
Madame speaker

It was a big night, last night, for the Democratics and Nancy Pelosi. We got more seats. We have more people who will now actually be in Washington D.C. on the hill and will vote on the issues that are on the peoples' minds: jobs (extending unemployment benefits), economy, cap and trade and of course healthcare.

We did the smack down and knocked it out the park!
. . . . . . not long till she starts drooling.

There she goes . . . . .
Yes we did, so Nancy, hold their feet to the fire, pass healthcare legislation that includes a strong public option, shut the greedy health insurance industry down - they have outlived their usefullness to the American citizens - especially those of us who work for a living.
Everybody on this board  who supports the public option, not only do you call your representatives and senators, talk to your neighbor, share your knowledge - I do every day and i know I have changed the way some people feel about health insurance industries - something I'm happy to have done.
firstread, since you had the time to put up this thread, how about posting the comments on the other ones.
Nancy Pelosi is the reason we still have telethons to raise money for a cure...
This is exactly why she needs to go. Her logic is straight from Bazaro world. How about a ticket for 2012 with Obama/Pelosi. BO is ready to dump Joe B. as he has thrown him under the bus repeatedly.

We Won! We Won! Pyscobabble Nation
Nancy is one tough lady. Republicans don't like her because she is so tough...and she is right...two votes closer to the HCR.

As an Obama observer, there is no doubt he learned some things from last night's election. Adjustments on his part will be quite subtle. Pundits inside the beltway will not notice.
This is why I LOVE Lawrence O'Donnell... he can make an idiot like Michael Steele expose himself as the ass he IS without breaking a sweat... lol lol
_______________

Lawrence O'Donnell had some tough words for RNC chairman Michael Steele this morning regarding the GOP's loss of the 23rd congressional district in New York for the first time in history. O'Donnell accused Steele, along with Sarah Palin and others, of leading the Republican party to defeat in the 23rd by ousting the Republican candidate Scozzafava from the race in favor of a more orthodox conservative who proved too orthodox for the voters. An incredulous O'Donnell asked Steele how such a stunning defeat could happen.

Steele responded with some humor: "Lawrence, I'll start by apologizing for letting you ask me a question in the first place... I don't apologize for anything. Last night was a great night for the Republican Party." The RNC chair argued that there wasn't much significance in the GOP losing that seat because it will have to be defended again in 2010, and he is confident the GOP can pick it back up.

It was here that O'Donnell got aggressive:

O'Donnell: Michael, you made the 23rd the most important congressional district in the country. The Democrats didn't do it. You did it. You lost it. You led your party to a disastrous loss that it has never experienced in that district before. Congratulations, nice work.

Steele: Hey Lawrence, if it makes you feel good, baby, then have at it. Just lay it on me. I'll shut up and listen to you. Because clearly you've got your talking points from the DNC. You roll them out and have fun with them. You're not going to spoil my juice right now; you're not gonna take this high away from me.

The wingnuts are claiming that the Republican wins in Va. and NJ were a rejection of President Obama merely because he campaigned for the Dem candidate a few times. But Vice President Biden also campaigned for Democrat Owen in NY 23. Since Owen won, by the same "logic" the the NY 23 race was a sign of the voters' approval of the Obama administration.

Of course, I don't believe either claim is true because, being a member of the "Reality Based Community" Karl Rove sneered at, I'm more biased in favor of real logic and real facts, rather than  preposterous arguments selectively applied to support my political views.

Dems did pick up a seat in a solidly repub district.  Don't try to tie NJ's gov who has been unpopular for a couple of years and DEEDs who lacks the political skills to win a college SGA election to the National party.  The national party tried to help these guys and were told that its local, they know best.  Lets just hope we can get rid of Patterson in NY before he makes a fool of himself like his bethren across the river.
Keep on talking.  Perhaps some day you will know what you are talking about.  Probably not, though.
Scratches head....

Why is America demanding change after only 8 months of Obama/Biden and Democratic leadership then Ms. Pelosi?

Check your fortune cookie next trip to your favorite Chinese Restaurant.
The message is clear. The Dems will lose big in 2010.
The writing is on the wall.

No public option & Obama is a loser.

Where's the jobs, Obie?
Keep on talking.  Perhaps someday you will know what you are talking about.  But, probably not.
Nancy Pelosi is crazier than a sprayed roach!!
So right! I'll take 2 more votes for health care over 2 Governors any day!
Al Gore, in an interview three years ago, stated he wouldn't run for public office again!! One of the main reasons he cited was how far south the discourse has become in politics!! How true!! Fox for the right, MSNBC for the left; left standing is CNN, in the middle!! I choose CNN; I don't want to hear what I want to hear for the heck of it; I want to hear what's really going on in this country and around the world!! I don't want to see pom-poms out day in and day out for one side or the other!!

The blame for the uncivil discourse we see today lies squarely on the shoulders of the media; you're either "with us or against us!!" No, thank you!!

When we, as a society, allow the media, to include MSNBC, to tell us what to think, when to eat, drink and use the bathroom, we're in trouble!!

My cousin posted this today; he's spot on!!

"I propose a 'dumb media' tax for all media - left and right. If you haven't studied politics and don't understand how they work, but want to stir up the public into a frenzy with a bunch of armchair quarterback hype - that you then can't back up, once your analysis is shown to be faulty you either A) need to donate 25% of one months salary to public education, and B) need to apologize on TV or radio, or C) spend weekends for two months picking up trash on the roadside. Political analysis on TV and radio used to be done by professionals with entire careers spent in education and politics and it was reasoned and measured. Now it is 95% B.S. and treated more like reporting on a sporting event, and the public that is dumb enough to buy into it gets what they deserve. Enough already."

Yes; enough already!!
They do have a peculiar  way of scoring, only count the elections you win, the other ones don't count.  The New York election is interesting.  True, they did claim a victory over the Republican candidate, who had dropped out of the election.  Their candidate was so popular that they beat the third party candidate by 4 whole percentage points.  If  6% of voters hadn't mistakenly cast their votes for the nonexistent Republican candidate, the outcome may have been different.  From this outcome we can conclude that when there isn't a Republican in the race Democrats stand a very good chance of winning.  I can hope that the Republican party has learned that if they field good candidates, rather than RINO's Republicans In Name Only they will win, as they did in New Jersey and Virginia.
I can see that Nancy Pelosi has everything wrong.  She should in fact be saying that the Republicans did truely win last night.  In fact, maybe she should propose that now that a Republican seat since the civil war is now democratic the democrats should pass a bill that eliminates taxes.  Cut all taxes, eliminate social security, medicare, no longer provide money to the military, be sure to kill the health care reform bill, get the government out of the people's lives.  We don't need any FCC telling us what we can watch on TV.  This country is perfectly capable of relying on business to provide safe food for us to eat.  We don't need any security at the airports or at the ports.  Let the private companies take over.
I know that this may sound a little strange, but if the republicans are always against anything that the Dems try to propose for the betterment of the people, maybe something will get done.
For those who are so afraid of "government" take over, I hope you don't drive on the socialist federal highways, or travel over any bridges that are to be maintained and inspected by the government.  If you are sooooooo concerned about these matters, do you avoid callling the police when robbed? or the fire department when you have a fire?  How about the flu shots that are provided to help protect your life.
It is so easy to say NO to every proposal and call it socialism.  What is your solution to the ills of this country?  Should we all just pick ourselves up by the boot straps and go?  When you are stuck in the snowbank this winter, or want to be resuced when a tornado or flood hits your community.....remember that help is provided by that socialist government that you rail against so frequently.
The Dems won a seat for the house....there is now 1 less republican in the house that is not there to say NO.  Is that a win or loss for the DEMs?  You decide.  I have yet to see a governor that has an impact on their entire country.
Using Karl roves math republicans increased thier lead in the house, then again the party that brought you WMDs 4000 +dead in Iraq katrina Bin laden on the loose 911 they should feel full of themselves they were able to con the stupidist among us walk on watercrew

Really?? A democrat won in a district that a republican has held for 100 years!! Tell me again why 2010 will be a big loss for the democrats??

LOL!!

Governors do not pass legislation; Congress does!!
The woman is nuts.

Umm Kelly,
Are you opting to be on the other side of Dick Army's Tea Baggers pitchfork?  That is so dumb to allow yourself to be mutilated or possibly dead; especially if you can't afford insurance.

Keep it real Nancy Pelosi is not dumb and she is not listening at Glenn Beck's fantasies of 9 Principles and 12 Values.

She smacked your dumb A**es down. Governors don't vote.
YES!

WE WON!

WE WON!

You Repuke, Repug, Rethug, Party of No, Minority Party, Obstructionist, GNOPEE, Bushwhacker, Big Oil, Big Business, Warmongering, Tree Chopping, Coal Mining, Stockbrokering, CO2 generating has-beens- SHUT UP WE WON, WE control Congress, WE control the White House, WE control a slim governor majority. WE WON WE WON.

DEMOCRATS WON, but when WE fail, it is still the Republicans fault.
You right-winger are really not that bright, Pelosi is actually right we did win two seats last night. Sure the Repubs won Va and NJ but Gov don't have a vote in Congress so why should the Congress be concerned, plus Sarah and all her cronies got their butts whoopped in NY-23 and don't try to say it don't count because he had the backing of all those idiot's to include Pawlenty
Palin carries more influence than Obama. Can you all feel it? Ouch!

He should go back to Kenya and visit his half siblings, all 8 or 9 of them. And atay there.
Louisiana CoCo (Sent Wednesday, November 04, 2009 2:40 PM)

And YOU, CoCoPUFFS, are a shining example of what is wrong with the discourse in this country!! You may not like President Obama; however, slinging bigoted mud is beyond reprehensible!!

Shame on you!!
Geekers, Nancy.  From most of the posts here today, it sounds like you might want to make a run for the mayor of a large metropolis (Wasilla?) or run for governor of a state 'up north'.
Hell, who knows?  Maybe you can dispense endorsements for wing-nuts and help them with their election efforts.
Yes Nancy, you won. You are now the Queen of Faded Glory. Just like your face.

Every day, David Axelrod looks more and more like Amerigo Bonasera, the undertaker in The Godfather.

Axelrod-White House Chief of Combovers.
MO THE SLUG (earlier)

Whatsamatter baby? You gonna cry? Did we step on your feelings with both feet? We only told you the simple truth.

You are a little piece of humanity that doesn't count. And that is of your own doing.

Even when you lose you can't accept it. All you do is name-call. That's it. That'll win you a war.

We're tired of supporting you and those like you.
You bums need to find the job that Obie promised.
Oh, that's right, it's not there, is it?

You are, like the rest, a gnu running with the herd without direction. A gnu is a wildebeest, jackass, so you don't have to look it up.

And remember to get off your lazy butt the next time lightning strikes your political platform and rips it apart. We don't want to see you hurt. We need to use you as an example.

Sure you won Nancy. Now be a good girl and take your meds.
