Scenes from the 'Super Bowl'

Posted: Thursday, November 05, 2009 1:16 PM by Domenico Montanaro
Filed Under:

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
NBC's Luke Russert, reporting from the West Front of the Capitol, passes along this photo of a cartoon Pelosi with the words "UNAMERICAN MCCARTHYITE" scrawled across.

The crowd, per Russert, is so far about 3,000 to 3,500, according to Capitol Police estimates.

During actor Jon Voight's speech, he had some pretty hot moments:

"His only success in one year as president is taking America apart piece by piece," Voight said. "Could it be 20 years of 'subconscious programming' from Reverend Wright to damn America?"

More to come...

*** UPDATE *** Three Capitol Hill police officers all guessed that the crowd numbered at about 4,000. (Here's a wide shot picture of the crowd.)

At least 45 to 60 GOP members lined up behind the podium.

Here are some of the more jaw-dropping signs seen at the rally:

  • "Get the Red Out of the White House."
  • "Waterboard Congress"
  • "Traitor to the U.S. Constitution" (Picture of Obama on sign)
  • "Un-American McCarthyite" (with picture of Pelosi)
  • "I'm the King of the World: Remember the Titanic?" (Drawing of Obama in the mold of the 'Jovial Sambo' from the Jim Crow era doing the Leo Titanic pose."

NOTE: It is important to know that this rally was set up by the GOP. While other groups certainly got people to show up, the folks who came here ultimately came at the invitation of the Republican Party. The GOP provided the speakers and the music, etc.

*** UPDATE 2 *** Nine arrested... NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports: A statement from the Capitol police concerning protests INSIDE Congressional office buildings: "At approx. 10 am today, USCP arrested 9 people without incident who were all charged with Unlawful Entry in the Hart Senate Office Building, rm. 706."

Luke Russert has more from John Boehner's speech: "Pelosi care is the greatest threat to freedom I've seen in my 19 years in Washington.

Other bites:

"Your voice is critical today."

"You know in August Americans across this nation showed up in townhall meetings all across the country for their members of Congress. They showed up right here on September the 12th."

"They all came to say enough of mortgaging our children's future, they send enough to spending money we don't have. They said enough of the regulation enough of the bailouts."

"They said enough of the insanity of Washington, DC."

"They want nothing more to hand freedom off to their kids and to their grandkids."

"This weekend the House of Representatives is likely to vote on Pelosi care. This bill is the greatest threat to freedom I have seen in the 19 years I have been here in Washington."

"Taking away your freedom to choose your doctor, the freedom to choose health insurance on your own, it is going to lead to government take over of our healthcare system with tens of thousands of new bureaucrats right down the street making your health decisions for you."

"I'm going to stand with you and all freedom loving Americans against this bill."

"Join us in saying no to higher taxes and more deficits. Join us in defending our freedom and join us in defeating Pelosi care."

*** UPDATE 3 *** There are hundreds of protestors between the Cannon and Longworth office buildings trying to get into the building, chanting "Kill the bill."

The line goes around the block.

*** UPDATE 4 *** More scenes, per the liberal Think Progress blog of the Center for American Progress: Rep. Todd Akin proclaiming the importance of the Pledge of Allegiance, particularly "under God" and then forgetting "indivisible."

And there's this sign depicting a pile of corpses from the Holocaust, and saying that the Holocaust was the "National Socialist Health Care."

used to think he was an ok actor, now its apparent that he's either an amazing actor, or an idiot.

now he just seems like an ugly man.
Yet another reason why Angelina Jolie hates her father!

The 'Toilet Bowl of Stupidity' !!

The 'Nut Bowl of Fruits and Nuts'

A Carnival of Bad Taste

A Celebration of Ignorance

Muichelle Bachman's 'Carpapaloozza' !!!

Please DON't HURT YOURSELVES TRYING TO THINLK
Isn't the Super Bowl attended by like 80,000 to 90,000 people?  Where are the protesters?

Jon Voight is a has been actor without a serious script or a serious cause.

PS.  I want my November, December and January back.  Do they really think they can just skip through the holidays and no one will notice?  please,...it's been 9 months.  Get over yourselves.  They can't dump that Bush scum filled mop buckets fast enough.  Grab a mop you f'in whiner.
Pelosi isn't the brightest of reps but she says the right things to win in her leftist district in the least "american city" in america, San Francisco. No one can unseat her unless they were to run on the communist ticket.

++++++++++++++++
Actually if Nancy ran on the Communist ticket, she'd probably get even a bigger vote total in her district. No, Nancy's district won't vote her out of office, but the House Democrats will. Nancy has so badly botched the Stimulus bill, the Cap&Trade legislation, and now the HCR bill that she's become a distraction, and a useless idiot to both the House and to her party. Nancy will be made to resign her House leadership when the rank and file Democrats realize she's a boat anchor to their cause.
Oh no!  3,500 Teabaggers!!!!!! That's one whole teabagger for every 500 Obama supporters that watched him take the Oath of Office in the freezing cold.  Real scary!
Conservatives getting this many people out to this kind of gathering on a work day is amazing!!! Most conservatives work, and getting time off is a challenge, especially with the Obama jobless recovery.

Liberals just bus people in from all over, usually when the community organizers in their churches tell them to be at a certain place and at a certain time and they'll get their protest signs to hold when they get off the bus.
Good job MSNBC. Report the few signs with the most vitriol. Ignore the majority of signs from concerned Americans. Anything to fit your narrative, huh?
Pelosi and Reid won't get the message, but the Blue Dogs better be listening. Vote for nationalized health care and be prepared to be out of a job in a year Blue Dogs. Most of them don't have enough contacts to be lobbyists either, so a 'Yes' vote on HCR is a ticket back home for you Blue Dogs. Or don't you remember those town hall meetings?
How juvenile. People need to be out looking for work not idle making the devil's work. Children don't get their way and so they must cry and complain. They resort to name calling because they have no real argument or anything to back it up.
The next step for that crowd is to simply stage a coup d etat ala third world behavior. Thats th eonly way this GOP can take over this country again after their disastrous 8 years and near depression (saved by this admin) or at best 80 year worst recession.

The American way is for political parties to take power via elections not intimidating protests with violent innuendos. This is irresponsible! At least the tea partiers claim to be unafiliated.
It is so much fun to see the looks on liberals faces when they get their protest methods shoved back in their faces! It's that "Oh my gosh" stunned expression that is so priceless to see on the Libs. All the crap the liberals gave to the Republicans and Bush at their little organized protests, now it's getting heaped on the Democrats and Obama and Pelosi, and it just confuses the heck out of them!

Democrats/Liberals, people don't want your crappy health care legislation. They want they freedom. The government can't even run a simple Cash4clunkers program, How in the world can they run something so complex as health care?
Jon Voight = Patriot
Jon Voight? Really? Don't ruin Midnight Cowboy for me...
They are all witches and heretics and should be...ignored? When the wackos from either side come out it is just red-meat for the other side.

Will you be dropping-jaw if (when) the president deploys 20-30-40,000 troops to Afghanistan and move-on etc. organize their capitol protest? Their wackos are no different than the wackos out today, but just as sad and misguided. They are to be pitied, not pilloried. Or we can celebrate them as evidence of our free and open society...either way...
The GOP protesters ought to pace themselves. They have seven more years to "endure" President Obama's dictatorship.(And by then, we will have peace and prosperity and universal health insurance, so its a win-win for them, they get to hate "the man" and end up with a better life!))
Nice to see all the PROUD American's on display in the light of day!

Ps: Any word on if the signs were at least spelled correctly this time? The last 'go around' was an absolute hoot!  lol lol lol

PPs:  So far my favorite is Waterboard Congress! It says all I need to know about these fanatics!
Must have been quite the site.A few thousand un-employed tea baggers,oh I take that back,a bunch of paid tea baggers,(Paid  buy Dick Aremy),and bussed in by those neo cons at Freedomworks.I hope they leave some of there unemployment money in DC.And I'm sure by the end of the day the Fixed nonews will  have the count in the hundreds of thousands of baggers.I hope Bachmann was able to see the whites of there eyes, once past the glazed over Jim  Beam breath
No, what's fun, Freedom Fighter is to say what the neanderthals always say in this situation..."why don't these people quit living off the public dole and get a job?"  It is fascinating what the party of Lincoln has become.  It proves one thing.  A large percentage of the public are below 100 on IQ testing and apparently they all belong to the Republican Party.
How juvenile. People need to be out looking for work not idle making the devil's work. Children don't get their way and so they must cry and complain. They resort to name calling because they have no real argument or anything to back it up.
eagle1776

Name calling? Like:

"They are the villains in this" - Pelosi
"Un-American" - Pelosi
"AstroTurfers" - Pelosi
"Evil-Mongers" - Reid

You mean like that?
From earlier...

The geezer (Sent Thursday, November 05, 2009 12:20 PM) While that is 'theoretically' true, it isn't actually true.  The first recipient of Medicare lived until she was about 94 and withdrew 2,000 times what she had paid in.  It is socialized by those of us paying premiums now.  I'll find you a link when I get a minute; but do continue with your simplistic view of the world.

Thanks Clara!  I'm a little busy here this morning & didn't/haven't had the time to put the back up out there!

The same is TRUE with Social Security... but we know the entitlement mentality in regards to these 'pesky' socialized programs now don't we?

Hell I'll be lucky if SS is still around when I'm eligible yet... do you hear me WHINING about having to pay into it?

The righties are in FULL SPIN CYCLE around here today... that's for sure!

How's the popcorn?

Oh well.. what ever gets you through your miserable days!
Good job MSNBC. Report the few signs with the most vitriol. Ignore the majority of signs from concerned Americans. Anything to fit your narrative, huh?
DG, Houston, TX

Who cares. Let msnbc do it. No one watches them anyway. Even less watch CNN, who has also drank the kool-aid and got on the Obama bandwagon. They (CNN) had a panel talking about some aspect of HCR last night, 5 liberals, 1 conservative. CNN calls that Fair and Balanced. Msnbc calls Fox "Not a real news organization", but they (msnbc) don't even have news on the weekeends.
If most of the teabaggers were asked to post their IQ score, the signs would be teeny tiny.

Time to grow up. I don't mind your freedom to speak, but do it with some class.
The GOP also owns the sign picturing the slaughter at Dachau Germany 1945 with the caption: "National Socialist Healthcare".  Just when you think they couldn't get any lower - hey, Cantor I hope you are proud of your rally!

The MSM needs to get video of these signs out to the public.
It is time for the people of this country to stop pussy footing around and get angry, mad as hell and take this country back from the greedy self serving politicians (both Democrat and Republican).

Enough is enough!

It's time for a REVOLUTION.

People need to STOP blindly following one Party or the other and start voting for the best person for the job.

The brain dead people who keep, year after year voting for politicians just because of the Party they belong to or the color of their skin and nothing else, need to be shipped off somewhere because they have absolutely no clue what the hell is going on in Washington and what their elected officials are up too.
Eagle 1776
We do have something to back up are claims. Open youe eye's. Pisslosi, reid and bama are screwing us to tears right in front of us every day.

Can you not see, man?
WOW !!
They REALLY CARE about American's Health Care !!!

'...the Republicans' healthcare amendment would do literally nothing to decrease the percentage of Americans without coverage...'

'...enacting the amendment's insurance coverage provisions would increase deficits by $8 billion over the 2010-2019 period...'

Tax Cut and Spend Republicans
Oh you Nasty Boys !!
What happened to Fiscal Responsibility ??

From MyDD:

'...CBO: GOP Health Bill Wouldn't Increase % Covered
by Jonathan Singer, Wed Nov 04, 2009 at 11:55:53 PM EST

Not a huge surprise, but the Republicans' healthcare amendment would do literally nothing to decrease the percentage of Americans without coverage, per the CBO (.pdf):

By 2019, CBO and JCT estimate, the number of nonelderly people without health insurance would be reduced by about 3 million relative to current law, leaving about 52 million nonelderly residents uninsured. The share of legal nonelderly residents with insurance coverage in 2019 would be about 83 percent, roughly in line with the current share. CBO and JCT estimate that enacting the amendment's insurance coverage provisions would increase deficits by $8 billion over the 2010-2019 period. [emphasis added]

I suppose the Republicans might try to argue that their proposal succeeds at stemming the growth in the uninsured, so to that extent at least their proposal doesn't do nothing. But it doesn't do much more than nothing.

According to polling from Bloomberg news, 61 percent of Americans believe it to be "critically important" to "[f]ind a way for those who are currently uninsured to get health insurance coverage," a goal just 8 percent believe to be not that important or a bad idea.

If the Republicans believe it to be good politics to line themselves up with the minority of Americans disfavoring efforts to decrease the proportion of uninsured in this country, then by golly they've struck gold. But if they were hoping to present some sort of alternative to the Democrats' efforts at healthcare reform, something that anyone -- whether Beltway pundits or voters around the nation -- could have taken at least somewhat seriously, they have more or less failed....'

It SUCKS to be a Republican !!

It just SUCKS !!
http://images2.dailykos.com/images/user/191280/bachmannmarch2.jpg

Republicans sure know how to keep it KLASSY.
How does inciting fear and hatred advance a conservative agenda?  I believe in freedom of speech, but we'll be hearing about this for days while the media goes into a wing-nut feeding frenzy.  The louder and more bizzare, the more coverage you get!
John Voight = Patriot?!?!?

Patriots don't make millions of dollars . . .they risk their lives, end up dead, or in jail. Ask Nelson Mandela, Crazy Horse, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks.
It SUCKS to be a Republican !!

It just SUCKS !!
MSierra, SF

Probably sucks worse to be you though!
So angry and miserable all the time questioning why your president isn't fulfilling more of his promises.

Yep, at least republicans aren't dissapointed, we never expected much to begin with from this fake!
Here we go again, just saw Cantor on Andrea Mitchel show. The lies have already started, he said 10's of thousands of protesters were at the Capital. Where as the Capital police estimated about 3500. it'll be up to over a million before Beck comes on.
People take the country back! (Sent Thursday, November 05, 2009 1:47 PM)

I'm not sure where you've been hiding (heavy rock?); but we did take our country back, last November 4th.  We aren't selfish, though, so when the ship gets righted, we will absolutely share the benefit with all Americans.  Assuming some of you hypocrits don't defect by then?
What kind of an American wants their country to fail.  THe looks on their faces when they are yelling and stopping around, look like the barflies in Star Wars.  THey are actually pathetic little people, who apparently have nothing to do.  No wonder members of the GOP are so low, I would be embarrassed admitting I belonged to their party.
I have never seen such hate and name calling in my life.  Even if you people do not agree, one thing to remember is that we are all AMERICANS.  That is why no one has been shot in the head for disagreeing.  Can you please try to be civil to each other and treat each other with respect?  I will not tell you which party I support.  A good debate does not require a political party.
If all those wing nuts missed a day of work for this bigoted stupidity I have a son willing to take their job!
Other signs seen at this GOP event:

"Obama takes his orders from the Rothchilds,"

and a genuinely disturbing one featuring the piled bodies of Holocaust victims, with the text "National Socialist Healthcare: Dachau, Germany - 1945."

Please ask Boehner, Cantor et al. for their opinions. Obviously the GOP is not planning to make any inroads among Jewish voters any time soon.

If the GOP starts acting like an adult, serious-minded party again, maybe they'll convince the country outside of the South they deserve to be in power again. Take a good look at McDonnell's Virginia campaign: don't run uber-conservative, don't attack Obama. This is how they can win. But right now the applause of a vocal but small fringe is turning the party's collective head too much.
"saving jobs" "stemming the growth in the uninsured", same painting, different canvas.
FR you were being too kind with your 'guess' of a crowd of 4,000!  HP is reporting 'Hundreds'!  Can we get a better idea of just how many of these zealots are actually there?

The GEENOPEE is certainly doing EVERYTHING it can to whip these mental midgets up into a FRENZY!

Given their penchant for guns... I pray this doesn't end badly!  With these WHACK JOBS... one NEVER knows!

When you factor in mental instability and firearms (and hell toss in some Budweiser for good measure) it's a recipe for disaster!

This is the results of what happens when you staple one to many teabags to your forehead!  lol lol lol
Liberals just bus people in from all over, usually when the community organizers in their churches tell them to be at a certain place and at a certain time and they'll get their protest signs to hold when they get off the bus.

Glenn Barte, NM (Sent Thursday, November 05, 2009 1:30 PM)
=========================================
Glenn - for Pete's sake they were bussed by Dick Army's Freedom Watch.
This is why my entire family left the republican party. It has been taken over by right wing nuts. Go ahead and protest you are driving intelligent people away. What you are doing will not win elections. Why are you not working or are you getting government checks?
Why did you skip the sign that showed photos of dead Jewish people? You should have included that in the body of your entry. It has Jews VERY upset. Understandably.

http://images2.dailykos.com/images/user/191280/bachmannmarch.jpg

http://images2.dailykos.com/images/user/191280/bachmannmarch2.jpg
Cantor estimating the crowds at the Capital at 10's of thousands. More made up numbers from the tea baggers.
It is all well and good to respectfully and peacefully protest, but the signs - jovial sambo from the Jim Crow era - Ken-ya trust him.  WTH.  I guess the Republicans endorse that kind of racial, yes RACIAL, rhetoric.  HOW DISGUSTING AND SHAMEFUL!!!!
Where the hell was all this outrage at spending when ole John was saying yes to billions upon billions in spending and the ever increasing deficit.  I guess it's okay when they add to the deficit, but let this President add to the deficit in his efforts to help the American people then it's a problem.  HYPOCRIT.  I tell you what is theft - sending these kids to war and them coming back in body bags or maimed and no longer able to have families of their own.   There's your theft.
Hate on parade, brought to America by the Republican Party.  They will wrap themselves in flags and spew their nastiness on anyone who does not ad hear to their one dimensional group think.
ps. those 9 arrests on 4,000 people are 9 more than the arrests made for 1.8 million at the inauguration.  hmmm?  Peaceful assembly?  sure doesn't seem that way.
I love it!!  Every time the nutjob teabaggers show the depths of their idiocy and vile hatred, the more reasonable people see them for the whacked-out zealots that they are.  They are not worthy of serious attention.  Let them enjoying marching about with their hideous signs, shouting inane slogans at each other, until it's time to shuffle on back to their radios so Rush and Hannity can give them their daily lessons on how to think.  Pathetic sheep worshiping at the alter of Fox News.  It's really rather hilarious to watch.
Good job MSNBC. Report the few signs with the most vitriol. Ignore the majority of signs from concerned Americans. Anything to fit your narrative, huh?
-----------------------------------------------------
To Doug, Houston TX:  Those signs came right out of the minds and mouths of the Republifascist Movement and the sheeple.  I say Good JOB MSNBC - need to show Americans the mind-set of the uber conservative neoconservative fascist and their efforts and resegrating American Society.  Voight fogto to mention the fact that everyone of the Southern Republicans sit in churches all across the South sit in conservative fundamentalist churches that were founded on the Theology of Segregationism.  Does Voight's comments of btainwashing also apply to them?
"His only success in one year as president is taking America apart piece by piece," Voight said. "Could it be 20 years of 'subconscious programming' from Reverend Wright to damn america?"

Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Republicans sure know how to keep it KLASSY.

We've just been watching the libs for the last 8 years. If you can't take the heat......
The GOP protesters ought to pace themselves. They have seven more years to "endure" President Obama's dictatorship.(And by then, we will have peace and prosperity and universal health insurance, so its a win-win for them, they get to hate "the man" and end up with a better life!))
