IL SEN: Dissuading Sarah

From NBC's Mark Murray
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is trying its best to squeeze every ounce out of the Mark Kirk-Sarah Palin story.

A quick recap: First, the Washington Post's Cillizza got his hands on Kirk's letter to Palin friend Fred Malek, inquiring if Palin might endorse the Illinois congressman in his Senate primary. Then, as we reported earlier today, one of Kirk's conservative primary opponents blasted this appeal to Palin, noting Kirk's vote for the cap-and-trade bill.

Now the DSCC has fired off this "memo" to Palin and Malek, which digs up unfavorable things Kirk had said about Palin:

To: Governor Sarah Palin
Cc: Congressman Mark Kirk
Cc: Fred Malek
From: Kathleen Strand, Senior Advisor to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee

Dear Governor Palin,

Yesterday, following the purge of a moderate Republican in upstate New York and the devastating special election in NY-23, it was revealed that Congressman Mark Kirk is actively seeking your endorsement of his candidacy in the U.S. Senate race in Illinois.  However, Mark Kirk has not had kind words to say about you in the past. Faced with a difficult re-election race in 2008, Kirk told reporters he “would have picked someone else” for Vice-President and that frankly he “didn’t know whether you are qualified to be President.” Now that Kirk is facing a tough primary challenge from the anti-Washington, anti-establishment candidate Patrick Hughes, he is suddenly racing to embrace you. I’m not sure how familiar you are with Mark Kirk but he is a politician who has a history of putting politics above principals, something you surely look down upon. Whether the issue is cap and trade, extending unemployment benefits, or health care reform, Kirk has either flip-flopped, been AWOL, or motivated purely by politics. On the other hand, Patrick Hughes is comfortable in his own skin as an extreme right-winger. Unlike the pro-abortion Kirk, Hughes is firmly pro-life, anti-gay marriage, and pro-gun…sounds like your type of Republican. I know you are in Milwaukee tomorrow and will be in our great state of Illinois later this month, both would be a perfect setting to give your blessing to one of these two candidates. With so much at stake in the next election, everyone wants to know -- who will you endorse in our Senate race?

2000 Census data had approximately 41,860,232 people between the ages of 50 and 64.  Those OVER the age of 65 total 34,991,753.  To state or imply that AARP doesn’t understand their constituency is a complete fallacy.  They get it AND they are representing the majority.  Obviously these numbers are stale dated but it is about 54% of their total membership that is NOT covered by Medicare.  I would think more people would be supportive of assisting this population in managing healthcare costs.  I know many people in this demographic who have acquired a comfortable net worth and would love to retire; but they aren’t willing to be on the hook for the unpredictable cost of insurance or the risk of being cancelled if something comes up.  In our country, you must be impoverished to be eligible for health care relief.  Imagine how many jobs could be available if those who are ready and willing to retire did so because they were eligible for early buy in to Medicare?

An update on LOBOTOMYPALOOZA...

FR you were being too kind with your 'guess' of a crowd of 4,000!  HP is reporting 'Hundreds'!  Can we get a better idea of just how many of these zealots are actually there?

The GEENOPEE is certainly doing EVERYTHING it can to whip these mental midgets up into a FRENZY!

Given their penchant for guns... I pray this doesn't end badly!  With these WHACK JOBS... one NEVER knows!

When you factor in mental instability and firearms (and hell toss in some Budweiser for good measure) it's a recipe for disaster!

This is the results of what happens when you staple one to many teabags to your forehead!  lol lol lol
Why should these signs be ignored?  As you stated, "most vitriol" - no, America needs to see the level of hatred the wing nuts, that have hi-jacked the Republican Party, have for anything democratic!!

If they don't want the signs photographed and/or reported on, they should think before they proudly walk around holding them!!

America will not tolerate this; America is not a radical right country!! And as much as Beck, Hannity, RushBo and their ilk want it to be, it's not!! And Obama is no far left liberal, either!! He's a centrist, period!! The attempts from the far right radical fringe of the Republican Party to paint Obama a radical lefty will get them about as far as attempting to paint Bill Clinton a murderer!!

It won't work; in fact, like with Bill Clinton, these antics will only help President Obama!! The repubs didn't learn a darn thing from their attacks on Clinton; the more bizarre they got, the more popular Clinton got!! And to it will be for President Obama and the democrats, so do keep acting up now!!
____________
Terrific post Pam. They even have photos of a WWII concentration camp. Unreal.

And President Obama wants to govern in a bi-partisan manner?  Rep. Boehner was there today. The GOP. They care nothing for this nation or its problems.

I can hardly believe what I am witnessing in this country today. None of us here can. Can they possibly go any lower? What losers.
Not only is Mark Kirk Pro-choice; I think he's Kenyan and a Muslim and literate. Surely Sarah won't endorse one of the literate elitists.

Really makes you want to see some of the memo's from the Whitehouse doesn't it?

Wouldn't it be cool to get hold of Obama's Blackberry and check out some text messages and emails. Especially to see who some actually go to.

More interesting might be to be able to see those that come to him telling him what to do. :<)
FR, from the 2009 Exit Poll thread: "While last night wasn’t a referendum on Obama, Creigh Deeds probably wishes it was; he might have performed better."
---------------------------------

There is no mystery whatsoever as to why Deeds didn't attract Obama voters: he ran as a CONSERVATIVE Dem, who distanced himself from Obama and who opposed the mainstream Democratic positions on issues such as the public option for health insurance. I haven't heard a single so-called journalist comment on this very obvious reason why Deeds got wiped out.

But please don't let me stop you from reading the chicken entrails looking for evidence of gloom and doom for President Obama.
Rush Limbaugh thought that "Operation Chaos" was funny.

Apparently, the DSCC is taking a page from the playbook.

He who laughs last...
All I can say is that I truly feel sorry for the good people of Illinois!! While "anything Palin" does help the democrats, for the good of the sate, I hope she stays out of this; however, I doubt she will!!
Politics is so much fun to watch. The unspoken truth is that Sarah Palin has now becoming a power broker within the GOP. What a strange thing that candidates have to go to Sarah for a blessing. That is scary.
MS. PALIN ....

.... is clearly everything that the ultra left is not. And that's why millions of people, including some libs, find her fascinating. They will read her book and want to throw it into the firepalce at the same time. We love it. It may be the biggest of the year, outselling Glenn Beck, whose last 3 books were #1.

Beck is in the hospital having his appendix removed so he'd like to hear from all you hippy dippy libs.
Why should anything change? Right?

Damn, Palin's more powerful than a speeding bullet. Ya'll know how the rest of it goes, don't cha?

Sarah, these *ARE* the droids you're looking for!
I was going to post but this stuff is getting way to easy. And now that the Russian viewer is out hocking her coloring book she may be to tuckered out,you know trying to carry all those crayons around with her.
who ever has the most money after all she still think's her party is weak and she has another party going.
POPCORN?

That is all we will be able to afford,if even that at the rate Obama is spending money we don't have.

Popcorn? Get used to it! OMG LOL
Governor Sarah Palin?

Who is this Governor?
Where was all the spending complaining when Mr. Bush signed every huge spending bill?
Someone here has a real "thing" for Sarah Palin and you know who you are. Check out the jealousy you can see clearly between the lines.

I tell my kids when people call them names is because they lack confidence and are insecure and feel the need to try and demean to make themselves feel better.

I can only say that before an apple turns RED, it is GREEN or sometimes YELLOW. Pefect color words to describe the one with the Palin obsession! lol, lol, lol

Hey doggies - we know how it will end - she will quit as she has always done.

Pete, another closet Limbaugh listener! Too Funny Friend! Don't blame you though with what the Dem's are doing.

You SURE got that right Pam!

On my way into the office this morning I was wondering what that stench was...

And then I remembered that Grama Grizzly will be hopping her broom to fly on into the Windy City to tape her Oprah episode any day now!

Having Bible Spice lurking around here for any longer than needed will definetly drive down tourism!  lol lol
From another post:
In New Jersey, 90% said they are worried, and Christie leads with these folks by three points, 48%-45%.
-------------------------------------------------------
Christie only led by 3% on that? I would figure that to be a much greater spread if people were really blaming Dem's and/or the president for the economy. As for Virginia, Deeds was just a weak candidate so HE failed to get the voters fired up and ready to go, not Obama. In fact, Deeds seemed to distance himself from the president (even saying he might opt-out of the public option.) Big mistake since most want a public option! I think the white house should be pleased with the exit poll info. As we know by his primary loss in NH and his great speech after the Rev.Wright fiasco, Barack Obama turns defeat and challenge into opportunity. My guess is if voters just start to see the slight makings of a recovery, the Dem's will be fine in 2010. Maybe 1-2 dozen overall seat losses (as is historically expected) but nothing horrible, especially if the GOP continue to have Palin and Beck as the face of the party and still have no new ideas.
Off topic! During the tea bagger rally today Todd Akin (R-MO)gave a statement on the importance of the words "under God" in the pledge, because someone has to stop Nancy Pelosi from killing God, with death panels. He then led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance leaving out the word "indivisible."   What is the crazy train planning next? Makes me wonder...
My my how much BS can one level on another. I suppose they had to be cordial to get sinister Sister Sarah to even think of fulfilling their request. It should be interesting to see how she responds. I wonder if she even has a clue what the letter is about. She'll probably pick the wrong one just for spite and he'll lose....come to think of it any uber conservative will probably lose anyway.

Unless the Republican party moves more toward the center they will lose major races like they did with NY-23.
Something fishy about this letter.  I know parties play games but this sounds more like something Hughes would send to get her support.  If the DSCC really sent it, as a democrat, I say that was dumb to get involved yet it just might work on Palin.
Kathleen,

It's obvious you really could care less who Sara Palin is endorsing, all you really need to know is that it won't be a Democrate. Instead of stating what the Republican platform is ... how about telling people what it is You want t force on the people.
Beck is in the hospital having his appendix removed so he'd like to hear from all you hippy dippy libs.
Why should anything change? Right?

Maybe BEck will do another expose on the terrible state of the healthcare system and how it needs to be fixed, you know, like he did when he was on CNN.

What?

Oh, yeah.....

He works for Fox now....

No individual thoughts allowed....
Have I mentioned that I love Feisty Redhead from Roselle IL?  The western burbs are quite red. Good to see some strong blue out in that direction!
Principals? PALIN's principal principle is Palin.
Please, endorse both of them. Then they'll have to find someone else-maybe a moderate?
What ever happened to what is best for Americans?  Y'all write like everything is either Democrat or Rebulican...nothing is that simople. Right now, it feels like we are giving up our freedom bit by bit...the way our country is "changing", we are going to run out of those terrible "rich" folks who have no right to earn money with hard work and ingenuity...  It is like working hard in college to get a 4.0 and having a roommate who coasts thru with a 2.0 and then being expected to give part of your grade to your roommate so you can both have a 3.0 grade point average... ?? I still like the idea of teaching (and expecting) a man to fish so he can feed himself for a lifetime instead of just giving him the fish to eat for a day because he then become dependent on you to always feed him...isn't it time to recognize responsility, accountability and action instead of rhetoric?
