Club for Growth goes after Crist

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
You just knew this was coming... The Club for Growth, which spent about $1 million in NY-23 to boost Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman -- who eventually lost to the Democrat -- is back at it.

It is pushing for Marco Rubio over Charlie Crist in the Florida GOP primary. And now it created the below video, hitting Crist on his support for the stimulus back in February in an appearance with President Obama. The video is appearing online for now, but a spokesman says it will be going on air with it "soon."

The ad was created as a response to Crist's appearance on CNN, in which he tried to parse his own support for the stimulus.

"I didn't endorse it," Crist said. "I didn't even have a vote on the darned thing. But I understood that it was going to pass and I wanted to be able to utilize it for the benefit of my fellow Floridians."

"Didn't endorse it?" What do you call, as the ad points out, Crist saying the following? "We know that it's important that we pass the stimulus package."

By the way, the club goes all Lieberman-Bush kiss with its final shot in the ad, a slow-motion hug between Crist and Obama. It's the first tactic of its kind. And we're going to see LOTS more of this, particularly with the White House essentially saying bring it on -- make 2010 about Obama.

Get ready.

Stimulus. Health care. They are going to be -- and already are -- key 2010 issues in GOP primaries, in particular. Moderates face the challenge of surviving their stance on them in a primary and then trying to tack to the center in a general -- if the economy gets better. (There won't be a real measure of health reform for a while if it passes, since it won't go into effect for years.)

The Club ofr Growth's first choise was Erik Rudolph, but he's still in prison.
Club for Growth is an oxymoron.  Crist is a republican that I like despite disagreeing with him on certain issues.  Apparently, if a republican is willing to compromise to solve this country's massive problems, they are evil.
This is puzzling - Are they going for Goldwater Conservatism - who lost by the way, or is it Reagans Conservatism - who won, but ran the defecit sky high - these people are nutty
"I didn't endorse it," Crist said. "I didn't even have a vote on the darned thing. But I understood that it was going to pass and I wanted to be able to utilize it for the benefit of my fellow Floridians."

this is a man who realises that he needs to do what he can for the people in his state. these congressmen don't have thousand of state employees there responsible or to have to balance budgets every year.
Here's a much more important piece of news:

ABC just announced that there has been a shooting incident at Fort Hood, TX.  Seven killed, many more wounded, at a recruitment center where new personnel are processed.  There were not many more details, other than that it is believed that one of the shooters was among the dead, and that others are at large.  the base is on 'lock down'.

With no details, it is unfair to speculate.  However, I cannot help but think about the plot here in New Jersey, (Fort Dix was the target), which was foiled when a clerk in a chain store contacted the FBI when the photographs one of the conspirators dropped off to be placed on CD disturbed him sufficiently to act, rather than ignore something that disturbing.

My prayers are with the families of the victims.
This is so much fun. The great all-inclusive Republican Party continues to shoot itself in the foot. Today we had Steele saying "they" would get anyone who tries bi-partisanship. Now CFG doubles down with an ad like this. You know the kind that "helped" Hoffman in New York. Keep it up and all sane-minded people will see the Republicans for what they are . . . the Party of Rush!
Yes Virginia... Republican't eat their own!  lol lol lol

It's ashame because Crist is one of the few that I have any respect for!

Appears this is what happens when you think on your own and don't march lock step with the loons!
I thought Club For Growth was all about fiscal responsibility.

...but they lobbed $1 million to the NY-23 for Doug Hoffman and he lost.

Money well spent, right?
The next thing we know the "Club for Growth" will be sporting brown shirts and jack boots,Seig Heil, and all. The club wants growth alright but not growth of freedom. They'll say all sorts of stuff and dupe some poorly educated into believing them but most Americans have been burned once and won't be burned again.

There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again. (George W. Bush)

Dems.:  If these extremists go on and on about government run healthcare, socialist programs, etc.
Your line is: CFG wants and end to all Social Security and Medicare...you know, government run health and social programs.
CRIST is a decent guy. Rational forces have to rally around him against these wingnuts.
Why on earth do these idiots call themselves
Club (as if there isn't enough of a country club image for Repubs.) for GROWTH when they want to SHRINK everything-especially a workable BRAIN!
Have a McCain-esque intermediate health coverage for all who aren't covered by health insurance. That's a nice voting chunk-and the right thing to do.
This Club would just let everyone die or the unemployed live in a box. Could we remind them of that?

I really try to understand and anaylize different points of view but this is bordering on bizarre.

Pure craziness. Makes no sense!

What is going on?  Will someone help these folks get back on track?

Can you imagine what would have happened if President Obama had not got us on track by creating the stimulus and extending tarp?

We would have had a world-wide melt down. It is so sad that these folks do not read, do research and understand the workings of government and economics.

And he has really been so mindful of overspending.

Can you imagine how things would be if our President was not so intelligent empathic and smart?

Hey, Mark Foley-for what? Embezzlement? Fraud?
I think this one will backfire too.  Floridians love Charlie Crist.  THe young cubans lean more democrat, as do the jewish voters.  THe I-4 corridor voters are mostly democrat as are voters on the east coast.  I think Floridians are intelligent (subtract the panhandle) enough to understand what is going on.  THey do not lean towards the far right, except in the panhandle.
Republicans never have and never will get it.  Taking the laissez-faire attitude only creates greater havoc.  We would have been in 1929 all over again had we not done the stimulus.  And why are these Republicans only whining about Obama's stimulus and not the TARP money signed by Bush?  I never hear Republicans complain about that.

They are so disrespectful of President Obama it makes me sick.

Same for healthcare - if our healthcare system is SOOOOO Wonderful why is it ranked 37th best in the world BEHIND Costa Rica???!!   Why is it that we have millions of people here that want health care modeled after countries like Canada and France BUT you NEVER hear people in Canada or France say they want more American style health care?
Yep folks, mark your calendars for the 2012 republican national convention to be held in the Dennys parking lot in bfe, south carolina.
If you enjoy being an anarchist, try the Club for Growth.  Same if you enjoy chaos and stupidity.  Same if you want to tear this country apart and be as divisive as possible.  Same if you wear foil hats and hide in your basement.  Especially the same if you love giving your money and support to big corporate interests and fat cats to Kock and Armey.  There's a sucker born every minute!
My prayers are with the families of the victims.
no joe, no bo, nj
Amen!!!

No Joe, your not you usually self. i look foward to your post and i just hope your granddaughter is ok.
there have been a few artical here that i was looking foward to seeing what you had to say and then commenting on.
SERIOUS IS EVERYTHING OK.
P.S.  There wouldn't have been ENOUGH help for Hoffman in New York.  He was a horrible candidate, even worse than Palin.
Even though I am democrat I have always liked Charlie Christ because he puts his people first.

That is what a leader is suppose to do.

Note to Charlie:

Stand your ground. Doing the right thing is always the right thing to do!
Club for Growth?? Sounds like a support group for cancerous tumors. The Right Wing Conservative Tumor.

What about the blue dog democrats or Joe Lieberman?  Are they evil in your eyes?  I would be willing to bet that you don't appreciate their "willingness to compromise to solve this country's massive problems".
liberal hypocrisy knows no bounds.

As long as Gov Crist doesn't start running and changing his behavior because of this right wing nut group he will be fine

The governor enjoys the support of Dems and Republicans in FL

He is well respected family and friends can't say enough about him and they are Dems.

If however, Gov. Crist changes his behavior as he seems to be doing about the Stimulus he will be in trouble, because that Dem support he's enjoyed and still enjoys will probably be gone.

When he stood up for the people of FL and the stimulus and immediately said the money would help to save jobs and help families in FL and that was his priority not the politics of the situation that was a proud moment for Floridians and they are still talking about it.

Gov Crist has nothing to run from just ignore the bullies ie; Club For Growth he can see the disaster they caused in NY23 Bussing In An Outsider

Most Floridians know nothing about this Rubio, he has no expertise on the other hand Gov Crist so I'm told by Families is a proven commidity

Yes Florida has issues but this man has fought off STATE FARM INSURANCE COMPANY WHO TRIED TO RAISE THE INSUANCE RATES OF FLORIDIANS HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE BY 49% OR THREATENED TO LEAVE THE STATE WITH IT'S HOMEOWNER'S INSURANCE, THEY HOWEVER, PLANNED TO STAY IN THE STATE AND CONTINUE SELLING AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE AND OTHER LINES OF COVERAGES

GOV. CRIST STOOP UP AND SAID NO

STATE FARM WENT DIRECTLY TO THE REPUBLICAN LEGISLATURE AND THEY PASSED AN EVEN WORSE PROVISION THAT WOULD ALLOW STATE FARM TO BE EXEMPT FROM COMPLYING WITH THE RATES LEGISLATED BY THE STATE AND GAVE THEM AUTHORITY TO CHARGE WHATEVER RATES THEY DEEMED NECESSARY

YES YOU HEARD RIGHT REPUBLICANS PASSED THE BILL AND SENT IT ON TO GOV CRIST WHO VETOED THE BILL

SO, THAT TELL YOU THAT THIS GOV HAS ..... AND SHOULD HE STICK TO WHAT HE DONE FOR THE STATE AND CONTINUE TO PUT THE PEOPLE FIRST, WHICH POLITICIANS TODAY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS

GOV CRIST WILL BE FINE
I love it!

It speaks volumes of the Democrat lack of confidence in their own.

Brilliant!

An Obama hug, take a bath after that one huh Charlie!

Republicans are smiling everywhere.

Politics Politics Politics

Just look what it's done to Obama and Change we need.
You criticize Club for Growth but MoveOn.org, Geo Soros, ACORN, etc on the Dem side can do anything they choose.  HYPOCRISY.  You Libs seem to forget there is such a thing as FREE SPEECH.
Can you imagine what would have happened if President Obama had not got us on track by creating the stimulus

Ooops! Unfortunately you have to give Bush credit for that. Sorry.
Dems.:  If these extremists go on and on about government run healthcare, socialist programs, etc.
Your line is: CFG wants and end to all Social Security and Medicare...you know, government run health and social programs. Deboorah Greenlawn, NY
I dont understand why they havent made this case already...Its an obvious one
Just wonderin'

How is it some people are able to post on here from 9 am ET until 6 pm ET each day?

I mean, I'm just say'n?
I agree.  I'm a pretty solid Democrat, however, I have always thought Charlie Crist was a pretty decent person.  He seems sincere in governing for his state.  If a Dem doesn't win, then I sure hope he defeats whatever nut case the CFG will run against him, and by the way, shame on Michael Steele for not demanding to be a leader in his party and kowtowing to these wingnuts.  He should walk away, while he still has some decency left and maybe he might be able to help make the Repubs more stable, (Not that I'm cheering them on to that, LOL), but it's hard to watch your fellow human beings being turned into mindless bleating sheep.
Why is it that we have millions of people here that want health care modeled after countries like Canada and France BUT you NEVER hear people in Canada or France say they want more American style health care?

What planet have you been on? if you listened to more than lib propaganda, you'd know Canadians  come across all the time to get medical treatment.  If they don't they have to wait years sometimes for procedures.  English women with breast cancer are coming here because the Health Board decided they wouldn't make a particular drug available as it "cost too much."  Have you not seen the member of  the English parliament Mr Hanna who has been pleading with Americans NOT to adopt their system, that we'd regret it.  It  does help tp broaden your scope beyond this blog!
What about the blue dog democrats or Joe Lieberman?  Are they evil in your eyes?  I would be willing to bet that you don't appreciate their "willingness to compromise to solve this country's massive problems".
liberal hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Renee

Problem is, Renee, they're not compromising.  They giving in to the corporate interests that have put millions into their campaign coffers.  They're not interested in finding solutions or working toward fixing the country's problems.  They are simply backpedalling and stalling and wanted to stop any movement toward fixing the country's problems.  Whether it's the Blue Dogs or Joe "shoddy" Liberman, you can bet they're not trying to "fix" anything, they're trying to maintain the status quo, which, by the way, is not working if you will note.
Just wonderin'

How is it some people are able to post on here from 9 am ET until 6 pm ET each day?

I mean, I'm just say'n?

*****************************

And what is it you are tryin' to say???

Are you guessing that we are all out of jobs and in our pajama or...??????????
I agree. I had hopes for Crist nationally.

What Crist was trying to do was glom onto the "cult of personality" that had built up around Obama and give it a ride. Well that wave has crested. And Crist has gotten caught up in the whitewash.

I'm sorry by you can't be a Republican trying to get elected and stand with a Democrat. That's political suicide.

Principle, baby. Principle.

One area where I will disagree with Republicans. Is the belief in "growth at any costs". Well sometimes, Liberty trumps economic growth.
You criticize Club for Growth but MoveOn.org, Geo Soros, ACORN, etc on the Dem side can do anything they choose.  HYPOCRISY.  You Libs seem to forget there is such a thing as FREE SPEECH.
FREE SPEECH FOR ALL

Well, based on that, then I guess you'll agree to stop criticizing MoveON.org, Soros, Acorn, the President, the stimulus, etc., since we all should allow them to have free speech as well, without criticism, right?  Free speech for all, right, and now with your thinking, without criticism?  Great!
And while the Club For Growth is at it, I understand most of the crowd in D.C. are the Elderly protesting. You are NOT going to see the wonderful group of the Elderly I know in South FL because they are WORKING AARP jobs in their 70's and 80's to supplement their Social Security income.  So -- excuse me if I am really not that impressed with the noise in D.C. today.
Sorry, Charlie.
To Get Informed

That's the problem your GOP republican party are the ones talking about Canada, Europe's insurance we are not, they use it to Bash our efforts at providing health insurance to every American, Yes EVERY AMERICAN

YOU HAVE US CONFUSED WITH SOMEONE ELSE, THAT'S YOUR PARTY WHO LOVES TO TALK ABOUT OTHER COUNTRIES HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS, WHICH THEY KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT AND OTHER COUNTRIES ARE FURIOUS WITH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY FOR DOING SO AND SPREADING LIES ABOUT HOW THEY ACTUALLY PROVIDE HEALTH INSURNACE TO ALL THEIR CITIZENS

VS

THE US WHO DOES NOT AND PER THE HARVARD STUDY AND THOSE HAVING BEEN DENIED COVERAGE OR CLAIMS FOR LIFE SAVING PROCEDURES ARE NO LONGER WITH US THEY ARE DEAD, DEAD, DEAD

UNFORTUNATELY THAT DOESN'T MOVE THE REPUBLICANS PARTY JUST CASULTIES OF THE AMERICAN SYSTEM

THEN GO TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY FIRST TO SHOW UP

WHAT EVANGICALS

Have you not seen the member of  the English parliament Mr Hanna who has been pleading with Americans NOT to adopt their system, that we'd regret it.  It  does help tp broaden your scope beyond this blog!
get informed (Sent Thursday, November 05, 2009 4:09 PM)
--------------
There is no British MP called Hanna (or any easily-confused variant spelling: Parliament has a list of MPs online). When your argument is the importance of keeping oneself informed, it helps to get these things right.
iMAGINE THE MAJORITY OF THE ELDERLY PROTESTING IN DC THE VERY SAME PEOPLE THAT ARE LIVING ON GOVERNMENT RUN MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY

SO IT'S GOOD FOR THEM BUT NOT THE REST OF THE COUNTRY

RIGHT
By the way, the club goes all Lieberman-Bush kiss with its final shot in the ad, a slow-motion hug between Crist and Obama. It's the first tactic of its kind. And we're going to see LOTS more of this, particularly with the White House essentially saying bring it on -- make 2010 about Obama.

=================

Sure, 2010 elections can be all about Obama's successes. All zero of them. ANd he was such a big help in NJ and VA this past week, what go possibly go wrong with that?

Make 2010 about Obama and the Republicans win hands down. Even if this stupid HCR bill of the Democrats goes through, Obama can explain all those new taxes on the middle class that he said he wouldn't do. Better get our popcorn for when Barry tries to explain that one!
I'm sorry by you can't be a Republican trying to get elected and stand with a Democrat. That's political suicide.

Cicero

So much for bi-partisanship.  Don't let the good of the country or its citizens stand in the way of the Republicans' principles, lord no.
Why do they keep leaving the 's' off the last word in
'club for 'growth'?
You criticize Club for Growth but MoveOn.org, Geo Soros, ACORN, etc on the Dem side can do anything they choose.  HYPOCRISY.  You Libs seem to forget there is such a thing as FREE SPEECH

Cathy M, Newport KY:  There's FREE speech, then there's HATE speech.  You ignorant, sniveling conservidiots practice evil, vile HATE speech to foment insurrection.  Just take a look at the signs and listen to the speeches of the Tea-Baggers on the westside of the Capitol Building today.  The only thing they're lacking are brown shirts and goose stepping.
