Top McCain adviser defends campaign

From MSNBC's Norah O'Donnell
Sen. John McCain
's longtime friend and former chief of staff, Mark Salter, has just issued a statement about Palin's accusations.

Salter, who co-authored McCain's books, defends Nicolle Wallace's actions throughout the campaign. Palin suggests in the book that Wallace was a double-agent for Couric because Wallace had worked at CBS News prior to the campaign.

From Salter:

"After we had been criticized in the press for a lack of disciplined messaging earlier in the campaign when we provided frequent and unscheduled access to the candidate, we felt it necessary to adopt the same deliberativeness and discipline employed by our opponents and rely less on impromptu press conferences with our traveling press, and more on interviews arranged in advance so our candidates would have the same opportunity our opponents enjoyed to discuss and prepare for the interview.

"Approximately one week elapsed from Governor Palin's nomination to her first major press interview, the first in a series of major interviews Governor Palin did. Those interviews were discussed and agreed to by senior members of the campaign staff in consultation with the candidates. Nicolle Wallace, along with others, was tasked with helping the Governor prepare for some of her interviews. She did not decide which interview requests the candidates would accept. Nor was she tasked with securing the candidates' agreement. Those decisions were made by campaign management in consultation with the candidates. Campaign management and the candidates agreed to multi segment interviews so the Governor would maintain a presence in the media while she was in debate prep. And to the best of my knowledge, any interviews the Governor had with the individuals she referred to were approved and arranged by the campaign management with her agreement."

McCain should have picked fellow Westerner Harry Reid as his running mate. They could have been the Grumpy Old Men ticket.
That's what happens when you have a Democrat head the Republican ticket. You lose. And you end up with an inexperienced and clueless pretty boy elected President. America has survived worse (not much worse, but worse), and it will recover.
Who the heck cares what McC has to say!! He's a washed up angry man who needs to retire!! He lost it during the campaign; he obviously has never recovered mentally!!
Meow!

This cat fight is only getting warmed up... the hissing has started and soon the fur will be flying!!!

Anyone interested in some catnip to accompany their popcorn?
So sad that McCain and his team needs to run damage control over old news. Sarah Palin is willing to throw committed GOP staffers under the bus to improve her politcal image. Let's be clear. A VP candidate who couldn't answer basic civics and political questions is not qualified for Nat'l office.
I have never seen a politician as whinny and grumpy as Sarah Palin .... always complaining, blaming other people for her ignorance.

For this woman to continue to attack Katie Couric for what every observer said was a fair and graceous interview is beyond childishness and immaturity.

America dodged a bullet with that one, folks.
Is Sarah Palin capable at all of telling the truth?
And Bush didn’t blame anything on them either.
Fruity Gumdrop (Sent Friday, November 13, 2009 3:57 PM)

You really are a fruity gumdrop!! Bush didn't do anything to THEM?!?! Hell yes he did!! All we heard for eight years was that 9/11 was Clinton's fault; shut the heck up!!

Bush/Cheney never took responsibility, NOR apologized to America for ignoring intelligence Clinton/Gore left their administration, warning of the serious threat of an Al-Qaeda attack; Richard Clark was not only ignored, he was demoted!!

Rice ignored a memo, which stated, "bin Laden determined to strike inside US!!" And for eight years, they blamed the Clinton Administration for their utter failure to stop the attacks of 9/11!!

You're more than fruity; you're freakin nuts!!
Face it, none of us really likes to admit we made mistakes, it's a bit of self-preservation, and an unwillingness to admit we aren't always right.

The mark of a good leader is the ability to learn from mistakes, apologize if necessary, and move forward rather than blame someone else for the failure or refuse to acknowledge mistakes.  For instance, Pres Bush  refused to admit that they badly botched the Iraq war; his refusal to change course for nearly 4 years and even today the only admission is that he shouldn't have adopted the cowboy talk of wanted dead or alive--poor leadership.  Sarah Palin is too much like Bush, busy blaming everyone else for last year's campaign and I doubt that while pointing her finger at everybody else that she has looked at the three fingers pointing back at her.
I watched Al Gore on Larry King Live last night!! What a gentlemen!! Neither he nor Bill Clinton attacked Bush/Cheney during their eight-year reign of terror

Apparently you missed Al Gore's ranting speech in 2005 or so where he was screaming that "Bush deceived us!!" at some loony liberal conference. There are plenty of other instances that Carter, Clinton and Gore were critical of Bush during his terms. Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II had the class and dignity to keep quiet about their successors actions, as they should.
John, if you would have not tired to attract the hillary voters when you made your decision, sarah would still be in alaska, you would have not lost the election when way you did. so your campaign is defending your right now, this is something that should have not been, but you did what you did now you have to live with that mistake.

sorry John, but sarah being out there like she is, is all your fault.
if you wanted a woman as your running mate then you should have choosed kay bailey Hutichen(hope i spelled that right)of texas, she has the political cred and she would have not embarrased the republican party going on Saturday Nite Live acting silly. to make one apperance Ok but 2 or 3, just silly.

You must be high. Bush never blamed Clinton for anything. Never said he inherited any problem from Clinton. Never complained and whined like Obama is today. Get the quotes, any quotes, of Bush putting down Clinton. Take your time, you won't find any.

Barack Obama. Same question.

Really, cough up the info on WHEN AND WHAT Clinton or Gore said about BushCo!! You are FOS!!

And Bush 43, the idiot he is, still has Cheney doing all of HIS talking!!

Former presidents usually do NOT openly discuss their disagreements with the current president; Clinton did not!! Cheney continues to be Bush 43's puppet, and the strings are showing!!

Palin doesn't know what she ia talking about in the Book.

And Reagan really couldn't say much; the man was suffering from Alzheimer’s during his second term!! I say that not to be cruel, but it was evident to anyone with a clue, especially when Nancy had to whisper answers in his ear on many occasions!!

So I'll give you Reagan, but only because he was incapable of attacking Clinton!!
Barack Obama. Same question.
3 Million Jobs (Sent Friday, November 13, 2009 4:38 PM)

Woooh Woooh Woooh. Lower your standards, we are talkin' Barack here. How 'bout the 600,000 jobs promised in the summer of 2009?

Cubs win?

Santa is on the roof?

$0.98/gal regular gas?

Free healthcare?
And Reagan really couldn't say much; the man was suffering from Alzheimer’s during his second term!!

President Reagan had hearing aids. People with hearing aids may appear slow and stupid but they are not.

As you measure out to others, so it shall be measured unto you.

I wish the best of health to President and Mrs. Obama.
Though he wasn't my first choice, I was a volunteer for the McCain campaign, and I have to say I was under whelmed by their efforts.  Initially it seemed like it was McCain's election to lose, and he did.
It's McCain's fault, it's Levi's fault, it's Obama's fault. It's everybody's fault but poor victim Sara the quitter's fault. Were this a Democrat you can bet everything you own that the GOPers would be all over this story like vultures on a dead carcass.
I just think is it a sad commentary on a strange campaign - the McCain/Palin ticket took on a whole life of its own. Maybe it's time to put away childish things and move on. Really, the questions weren't really that tough....
