Actually, Obama is correct. At this point in time Iran is a tiny threat if a threat at all. And the only thing that has really allowed it to register is the policy of Bush (to be repeated and extended by McCain) inclduign Iraq.

And Obama has said he is willing to sit down and talk with world leaders (and yes, believe it or not Iran is part of the world) not necessarily negotiate with them, although that should not be ruled out. remember, Iran has more influence and is better liked in Iraq than the US is.

Also, the whole NAFTA-gate was blown out of proportion, since it was not even a paid advisor or part of Obama's primary staff that talked with Canada, and Canada has now said they misrepresented what was said.

Statements like these show why McCain is not the straight talker he says he is.

Except that Obama's advisor did no such thing. Obama's advisor restates Obama's position on NAFTA not contradicted it. I guess McCain conveniently forgot that. Iran will not be a large threat once we have President Obama negotiating with them and our troops out of IRAQ. Look at it this way, if you lived in the Middle East, how do you think you would feel about the United States. Our actions there over the years have been reprehensible. How would we feel if China or Russia has a large chunk of there armed forces deployed in Mexico. I support the troops, but I deplore Bush's cowboy diplomacy.

Speaking in September 2002 about the prospect of invading Iraq, McCain said he thought it would not be a difficult conflict. McCain said, "I believe that the success [in Iraq] will be fairly easy." In January of 2003, McCain again predicted the same about invading Iraq, saying, "we will win this conflict. We will win it easily." [1]

2003: The End Is "Very Much In Sight." Senator McCain was asked "At what point will America be able to say the war was won?" McCain said there were oil fields to secure and "die-hards" to take care of but "it's clear that the end is very much in sight, and today I think Americans should be very proud of their leadership, their technology...There are still some foreigners, Syrians and others hanging around. But it won't be long. It will be a fairly short period of time, but this happens in wars. I'm confident that once they are confident the area is no longer a threat to the Marines and to or army troops that they'll start imposing discipline. In the meantime, we'll have a short period of chaos." [2]

2005: McCain Said That Another Year Will Prove "Stay the Course" Is Working. "McCain believes that the U.S., and the cause of Iraqi independence, are moving forward in Iraq, a little bit at a time. 'I think the situation on the ground is going to improve,' he says. 'Overall, I think a year from now, we will have made a fair amount of progress if we stay the course.'" [3]

2006: McCain Said That Iraq Was "On The Right Track" As The Country Moved Closer To Civil War. Speaking on the "Imus in the Morning" radio show on March 1, 2006, McCain played down the increasing civil violence in Iraq. When Imus remarked that Iraq "already looks like a civil war," McCain responded, saying, "I keep trying to look at the bright side of this because we have to because the consequences of failure are catastrophic. But the gathering of the seven most respected religious leaders the day before yesterday, calling for calm and calling for some kind of reconciliation, I think, was important. I think, at least we're on the right track here." [4]

2003: McCain Said Bush Led With "Clarity" And Did Not Exaggerate the Case for War. During an interview with a live audience, Senator McCain praised President Bush on his leadership on the Iraq war and said, "I think the president has led with great clarity and I think he's done a great job leading the country, don't you all?" And asked if he think the president exaggerated the case for war, McCain said, "I don't think so. And I think that it's obvious that the 16 words should not have appeared in his speech. He acknowledged that again today. But I think that he made a strong case and I think that case has been verified with discovery of mass graves and the brutality of this incredible regime." [5]

2003: McCain Proclaimed "Massive Victory" in Iraq and Credited Combat-Readiness for "Our Victory" in Afghanistan and Iraq. "Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom demonstrated to the world what we saw just 12 years ago. We went to war as the most combat-ready force in the world. The value of that readiness is clear. We won a massive victory in a few weeks, and we did so with very limited loss of American and allied lives. We were able to end aggression with minimum overall loss of life, and we were even able to greatly reduce the civilian casualties of Afghani and Iraqi citizens. . . . Our technology edge in Afghanistan and Iraq would have been meaningless if we did not have men and women trained to use it. Having the best weapons system platforms in the world would not have given us our victory if we had not had the right command and control facilities, maintenance capabilities, and munitions." [6]

2006: McCain Said War Was On The Right Track. On March 1, 2006, McCain played down the increasing civil violence in Iraq. 2005: McCain Rejects Korea, Germany Model for Iraq. "In fact, when asked specifically if he thought the U.S. military should set up shop in Iraq along the lines of what has been established in post-WWII Germany or Japan -- something McCain has repeatedly advocated during the campaign -- the senator offered nothing short of a categorical 'no.' 'I would hope that we could bring them all home,' he said on MSNBC. 'I would hope that we would probably leave some military advisers, as we have in other countries, to help them with their training and equipment and that kind of stuff.' Host Chris Matthews pressed McCain on the issue. 'You've heard the ideological argument to keep U.S. forces in the Middle East. I've heard it from the hawks. They say, keep United States military presence in the Middle East, like we have with the 7th Fleet in Asia. We have the German...the South Korean component. Do you think we could get along without it?' McCain held fast, rejecting the very policy he urges today. 'I not only think we could get along without it, but I think one of our big problems has been the fact that many Iraqis resent American military presence,' he responded. 'And I don't pretend to know exactly Iraqi public opinion. But as soon as we can reduce our visibility as much as possible, the better I think it is going to be.'" [9]

January 2005: "Reduce Our Visibility As Much As Possible." "No, I would hope that we could bring them all home. I would hope that we would probably leave some military advisors...As soon as we can reduce our visibility as much as possible I think the better this is going to be." [10]

November 2007: McCain Rejected Korean Analogy to Iraq. Asked by Charlie Rose if he thought the South Korean model would serve as an "analogy of where Iraq might be…in terms of an American presence over the next, say, 20, 25 years," McCain replied, "I don't think so." "Even if there are no casualties?" Rose questioned. "No," McCain reiterated. "I can see an American presence for a while. But eventually I think because of the nature of the society in Iraq and the religious aspects of it that America eventually withdraws." [11]

January 2008: McCain Said US May Stay In Iraq For 100 Years, Long Term American Presence In Iraq Analogous To South Korea. At a New Hampshire town hall when McCain was asked "President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years." McCain responded: "Maybe 100" and "that would be fine with me." McCain explained his 100 year remark by drawing an analogy to the long-term American presence in South Korea: "We've been in Japan for 60 years. We've been in South Korea for 50 years or so. That'd be fine with me as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed." [12]

Today Iran is funnelling money and weapons to Syria, Shiite Militia's in Iraq as well as terrorist groups in Lebanon and Occupied Palestine, all fighting us or our close allies. To acheive normal relations with China, Nixon TALKED and VISITED China. Although, there need to be preliminary discussions at diplomatic levels before a full summit is called for; Senator Obama's willingness to talk to our enemies is true to the strength shown by previous administrations. Not the weakness shown by the current administration.

Mc Cain said...."They might not become a superpower," he said today of Iran. "But the threat the government of Iran poses is anything but tiny."

So in other words, they both agree that (a) Iran presents a very real threat and (b) that threat is "tiny" as compared to a superpower like the Soviet Union was. And yet leave it to McCain to parse Obama's words in order to justify his latest rant.

Maybe we should be asking McCain why he embraces the same foreign policy that has strengthened Iran, failed to kill or capture Osama bin Laden and resulted in the recruitment of more terrorists throughout the world.

Senator McCain is a fossil of the cold war and can't seem to grasp the reality of TODAY. He believes that pushing a war agenda will win the GOP the white house, ala warhawk. My questions is this: If experience and foreign policy is your strongest card, why play it now? Why embrace Bush politics, when the president has a 28% approval rating? The McCain campaign is woefully unprepared for the Obama juggernaught. It's like comparing a model-T to an Enzo Ferreri. McCain needs to save his best hand for the general in the fall....oh wait, that's his only hand. Better fold now and flip flop early, than wait and get caught doing it later. What reasonable person would think talking to rogue nations ia a sign of weakness? If Bush had talked and not sabre rattled with Iraq, gas wouldn't be sky high and Iran would be balanced by Iraq. There are over 100,000 refugees fleeing Iraq for safer countries, to include our own. Obviously, the current foreign policies are lacking....but hey, what do I know? I'm just a reasonable person.

Iran is not a "tiny threat" compared to the Soviet Union. At least the Soviets were sane and loved their children, too (sorry, Sting). They may have had much more fire power than Iran, but the Iranians are crazed religious zealots/nuts who will sacrifice anything, including their children or even themselves to destroy the West they see as evil. They are infinitely more likely to actually use the nukes. I think it's naive to try to negotiate or appease these guys. The only thing they will understand is a decisive victory against them or death. Or, if we are really smart, we can figure out how to kick our oil addiction and let them see how much power they can wield when they and the rest of the middle east are sitting on what would become worthless goo.

3. Are we paying less for gas now or before Bush’s invasion of Iraq?

4. Is our economy better of now or before Bush’s invasion of Iraq?

If you answer these questions truthfully, is there any way you want to continue down the same foreign policy blunders of the last seven years?

This is a not a difficult question, most 3rd graders could answer this one.
