It also shows Obama leading McCain by 8%, while Clinton ties McCain.

It seems obvious that people who once voted for Clinton are now moving to Obama nationally. It is also clear that Obama is going to be a juggernaut once the Dems fully unite. I foresee a 20 point lead coming out of Denver.

As usual, the media punditry spin the "large" wins by the HRC campaign into why Obama can't win the "white blue-collar" vote. Well, let's take a look at McCain's losses in the primaries by huge margins
- each percentage listed is his loss margin to the winner in that state:

Utah - 85% (!!!)
Colorado - 40%
West Virginia - 46%
Kansas - 36%
Maine - 31%
Nevada - 38%
Arkansas - 40%
Alaska - 30%
Minnesota - 20%

But McCain has never been questioned whether he can compete in these states effectively, has he?

Also, Barack has trounced Hillary in more states by wider margins than vice versa.

Let's put a stop to this notion that he can't win these states, especially if he campaigned effectively. Let's also not forget that the Clinton brand name has been established for over 20 years now - she has a former popular President campaigning non-stop for her, plus his entire machinery.

Given all of that, for Obama to pull off a win against overwhelming odds (I wonder what the London bookies had his odds at the beginning of the campaign) is an amazing feat, not to mention the fact that his campaign is at a surplus of $30 million, hers is in a deficit of $30 million.

Spin that on MSM.

Let's move on and focus on McCain.

The general is near. I believe that the republicans are in real trouble, regardless of the fact that Obama is an african american. Some states will not vote for him, in part, because he's not the traditonal looking candidate- but more will, when having to chose between Bush/McCain. Senator Clinton proved her point of still have strong supporters from the base. Question....now what? The general has started, without her, and there is nothing she can do to change those facts. Women vote for her because she is a woman, not the most honest or the person with the most integrity. She raced baited and played any card ever invented. Kentucky thought the gas tax was a good idea. In the article, it mentions he's going to give another speech related to Wright. That should be interesting. What fairytale will he tell about that now? Patriotism? Obama has a difficult argument to make. He needs to demostrate before the convention how he will get the 270 electoral college votes he needs. As it looks right now among strong/leaning, Clinton would have 224 with 132 "swing" that could go either way. Obama only has 194 with 200 "swing' in play. Clearly Clinton is better positioned to actually WIN the general election. Obama needs to demonstrate how he acually can get to 270 and I've heard no one on the Obama campaign address this, and make a compelling argument about how he will do this. I'd like to bring up the interview Chris Matthews had with Clinton supporter Lisa Caputo(sp?) concerning the exit polls in KY concerning race.

Did anyone else notice that he sort of boxed her in and almost had her apologizing when he stated that the exit polling of "working -class white voters" openly delared that race was very important in their decision to vote for HRC?

I almost fell to the floor upon hearing this. Finally, someone had the sack to say on national television what most folks have known since HRC decided to specifically target that certain group of voters!

The Clinton campaign pointedly stopped trying to court the AA vote after the SC primary and aimed their focus on "working-class whites".

My point is not to disrespect those voters, but to highlight that it was at this point in the primary process when the Democratic Party split racially.

We have yet to recover. So, my question is this:

What will/can HRC do to try and repair the rift she helped create?

The primary is NOT an electoral race. The primary is a delegate race. The Obama campaign planned accordingly and that strategy has paid off. I understand HRC supporters are disappointed; been there, done that myself, many times. But it is what it is at this point. She's in debt and doesn't have the numbers. Some of the DINOs will move to McCain, which makes little sense, frankly, but the Democrats will get behind their nominee. Democrats realize that McCain's loudly proclaimed intentions of overturning Roe and his so-called health plan would be disastrous. Democrats realize that HRC and Obama have very similar platforms and McCains is worlds apart from those. Democrats realize that personality politics won't work, it's time to vote on the issues and our interests.

If you support thousands more of our kids dying in Iraq, by all means, vote McCain. If you want Roe overturned, vote McCain. If you're proud of Gitmo and torture, vote McCain. If you don't cherish habeas corpus, vote McCain.

But I don't want to hear any complaints if you elect him. When our kids die in Iraq, when reproductive choice is gone, when our economy finishes tanking, your home is foreclosed, and you can't get health insurance, not a peep out of you. Take your ball and go home, but live with the consequences.

Some of you Obama supporters need to learn not to gloat. Some of you HRC supports need to curb your tongues as well. Neither of you are doing this nation any favors by deepening this division. Your candidates are behaving better than you are; try and emulate them. It's time to act like adults and do what is best for the future of our children. Here's the truth interspersed with some recommendations:

1) RCP shows Obama ahead of Hillary by 12.5%. The national Democratic electorate is coalescing around the presumptive nominee.

2) The nomination is determined - per the DNC rules - by delegates and not popular vote, popular vote from state to state is like adding apples to oranges since some states caucus and some have primaries - there is no way to calculate the actual popular vote and if there was, I think it is safe to say that Obama would be the winner.

3) The winner of the primary in a particular state has absolutely no bearing on who will win the state in the General Election (a point made many times by many pundits and many who comment on this site). Blue states will be blue and red states will be red except for those put into play. Obama can put more red states into play than can Hillary.

4) Hillary did not win Texas, it was at best, for her, a split decision even though Obama won more delegates. In fact even though Nevada is listed as a win for Hillary, Obama won more pledged delegates from the state.

5) Southeastern Ohio, central and western Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia make of the nation of Appalachia and unfortunately the good people of this region are still living in a time fifty years ago - it will take time for them to get used to the idea of a president who is not white but Obama will have to catalyze the process.

6) The popular vote argument made by Hillary is sophistry since she ran in two elections (Florida and Michigan) which she herself deemed irrelevant before those elections and whose importance she now defends, out of self advancement and not principle.

7) A revote in Michigan would be illegal because there are voters who could not vote again, (it's a cross-over state) since they voted in the Republican primary, not thinking that the Democratic primary would count. Perhaps it would be best to allot delegates based on a Michigan Democratic Party caucus (taking into account the results of the spurious primary). Perhaps the same could be done in Florida. (Obama would win Michigan and Hillary would likely win Florida but the outcome would not alter the outcome of the nomination).

Bottom line: this psychosis is not an exercise in democracy; it is the politics of a maniacal group that refuses to admit defeat. The Democratic Party establishment whose machines delivered the big blue states cannot believe that the poorly run Clinton campaign has lost. Well, it has and this is because the demographics of the voting electorate changed dramatically. It's time for the super delegates to put us all out of our misery and endorse the winner of the pledged delegates. We need to get onto the business of defeating the water boy of the Bush administration. I don't know if this country can stand '4 more years'.

He will win by pulling in states (like Oregon, Colorado, Virginia, Iowa) that he won by HUGE margins over Clinton. The states like West Virginia that Bill Clinton won are not necessarily "must haves" for a democrat to win 270 EVs. Personally, I think that the polls in places like PA and even OH are promising simply because the general hasn't even started, and Obama is running either ahead or right behind McCain. The moment that they start debating in front of a national audience, the GOP is going down. Who knows, maybe my state, TX will go to the Dems this year...Obama is only running 5 points behind here, and this is a pretty reliable Repub. state! So, if people vote their pocketbooks and their frustrations with this war, McCain doesn't HAVE any strong Republican states...over 75% of this country hates where we're going. The moment Obama links this war to all the troubles we're having here (i.e. we're paying for a war, just not in govmt. bonds, but in gas and food prices) people will come around.

It's amazing that the MSM talking heads have totally missed the surprise in Oregon, where the supposed "close" race turned into a rout by Obama. She was supposedly within 5 points in Oregon, but she lost by 16 points, an 11-point drop. That's real news, not that KY voted just the way everyone thought it would.

Instead of covering the story impartially, the MSM, thirsty for some more racial politics, also missed the fact that Hillary loses Oregon or Washington to McCain (according to current polls) and Obama takes both.

The Pacific NW states are swing states that the Dems need to take to win in the fall. That fact has barely been mentioned.

The truth is that every election is about total votes, not just the sliced and diced subgroups that are a "problem" for one candidate or the other. Obama leads Clinton by 16 points in the latest Gallup tracking poll.

In the general election (if held today), Obama would trounce McCain in PA, NY, NJ and many other states won by Hillary. He is in a statistical dead heat with the unvetted McCain in MI, OH and FL, and he'll likely take those states once Hillary is out of the picture. That alone will be enough for Obama to trounce McCain. Do we really want to base our futures upon what some racist uneducated Hill(ary)billies in Appalachia have to say? No way! Obama more than makes up the difference in THIS year's swing states -- CO, NM, VA, NC, SC, GA, LA, IA.

There's an Obama tsunami on the way, but the MSM and Republicans are picking up fish flopping on the beach as the sea moves out. That tsunami will wash away the GOP and all the racists who would vote with them. But to the rest of America, Obama's election will be merely a gentle rising tide that raises everyone's boats.

It is concerning how much emphasis your analysts place on winning the "white" vote in this state, and the prior one of WVa., or in PA. Why do they count more than the AA vote? Why do "working class whites" count more than "college educated" whites? Why do you feel so comfortable with this as your main platform? Chuck - What the big story should be is how well Clinton did in Oregon in addition to trouncing Obama in Kentucky when all of the media has been saying Hillary can't win. You know how people love to back winners, right? The superdelegates should and are staying on the fence because deep down inside they know Hillary can win the general and they have deep doubts about Obama's ability to do so. Also, stop dissing KY and W. VA voters because of their honesty on the race issue. What none of you are getting is it is not that they are racist. Due to the Reverend Wright problem, they have reason to believe that Senator Obama shares his black separatist views. Therefore, they view race as important, because they think Senator Obama and his wife share those racist views. You are not being fair to those voters in not bringing up this issue as their stated "race" problem in this fascinating "race."

Why are Hillary supporters so afraid of Obama? Do they really think McCain will be better?

If Hillary gets the nomination I will not be surprised. But her supporters should not gloat until after she's been in office and has done some of the things she says she will do. If she actually does something that does not serve her own interests I will be very surprised.
