Obviously, McCain is not a talented speaker. Sen Obama has the ability to reach far more voters who would enjoy coming to see him at a rally. The debate format is not a great venue for McCain unless Joe Lieberman can stand next to him and inch closer when he begins to answer incorrectly.

Debates would be the best tactic to go toe to toe with McCain.

This sounds like a desperate attempt at getting attention. His events cannot draw the attention that Obama's events draw. If you can't beat them, join them comes to mind. Obama "Just Say No". Tell him you will determine the course of your historic process, not the desperate needs of the old guard to look new and novel.

John McCain is not as good as Obama at podium speeches. He cannot connect well in that environment. Obama is too toughtful to do well at off the cuff comments. His thinking is displayed as the stutters and restarts.
