I just got off the phone with a very good business associate of mine, who I just discovered is a "staunch" conservative in his words. He just told me, there was never a case made for the war based on linking Sadam/Iraq with 9/11 (it was all about the WMD and protecting America) and that universal healthcare was going to move us toward socialism (the Canadians he said wait for weeks or months to see doctors etc). He is a great colleague of mine, but I have to say I am astonished to find truly intelligent people who have so bought the Bush/Republican line. I thought that because the Bush/Republican ideologies were so disliked, that McCain only had a chance by trying to re-find his maverick ideals, but now I see there are those who either really believe this stuff or have been so indoctrinated into it that the status quo is alright with them, no matter how they suffer.

Oh, and don't forget he wants to do for national healthcare what was done for usuary fees and credit cards back in the 70's allowing SD and DE to draw all the CC companies to their states and raise interest rates to 30% if they feel like it, even on old balances. but, guess where healthcare would be ruled from - AZ, that's right folks. somebody is in somebody's pocket on that one. but, then he doesn't identify healthcare as a major concern for America.

What reform did McCain really talk about? If his idea of reform is to remove an agency that performs tasks for the good of the public, then he needs to reconsider what reform should be. There are ways to make government smaller and better at the same time, but I don't think that McCain or other Republicans have a good idea on that.

reform what exactly? the tax code? nope, he already said the bush tax cuts need to be made permanent. i know, maybe reform our stance on torture? no, he flip flopped on that to become what may be the only living POW to think ignoring the geneva convention is a good idea. hmmm, maybe he'll be more specific before he drops this so called slogan for something else tomorrow.

Although AZ has been historically red, it also loves its maverick, independent image (ie, the former John McCain and Barry Goldwater). Our governor, Janet Napolitano, is Democrat and an early Obama supporter.

AZ is turning purple -- a few weeks ago, John McCain's polling numbers dropped from 20 pts to 11 pts against Obama. Many of our Republican friends and coworkers will vote for Obama -- they're tired of McCain and his Iraq policies. Plus, a lot of Californians are moving here (gotta love the west coast liberals!).

Finally, the state is getting younger and more diverse -- it's no longer a bastion of retirees with old money and Republican values. We also have 2 large public universities with thousands upon thousands of Obama supporters among their faculty and students.

It's a looooong shot for sure -- but McCain may not have a lock on his home state (think TN/NC for Gore/Edwards).

He is starting to sound like another 'change' candidate. But the only thing he plans to change is his message. It will change to whichever audience he is in front of. Isn't there a diagnosis for this? Have a message, and stay on task. How does he dare now proclaim to be the 'peace and prosperity' candidate. Hypocrisy should be his middle name. What kind of reform is he talking about? He sponsored the McCain Feingold campaign finance reform bill which allowed only himself to benefit from the 'loophole' where he gets to use his wife's corporate jet and it doesn't count as a favor. Also, less than five months ago he stood on a stage and stated that 'most people would agree they are not hurting from the economy'. Do I even need to mention the 'bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran' comment? Seriously? He is saying all of this with a straight face. C'mon America, we are smarter than this. We need to demand more from our leaders. Think until it hurts, and then follow it up with some research! And then, Think some more!
