The fact is that the state of the war in Iraq is a known problem. You foolish democrats think that pulling out without a clear plan solves everything. If this happens asap, the dire consequence is that it would be similar to a power vacuum when Saddam was deposed. The entire ME will be in worse shape than what we already mucked up because someone/some country needs to be the top dog when US influence wanes (this is human nature). Even if we don't rely on their oil there, the net effect is unthinkable because it will drive oil cost worldwide and this is what Iran wants to happen. Even with the Venezuelan oil we import, the US would better be ready to pay $20 a gallon for gas.

He campaigned yesterday in Virginia with Mark Warner in the Southwest part of the state where he would otherwise tend not to do well since it is sandwiched between Kentucky and WVA. Warner is enormously popular in VA and is super smart and a fiscal conservative, which would get the Independent Vote, help with the economy and just be an overall great choice. They sounded terrific together. There are some really great candidates out there - can't wait to see who he chooses. Hillary would make a great Supreme Court Justice.

Don't know who but wish there was a woman to choose other than Hillary. I like Hillary but not as VP - Barack would lose as many votes as he would gain. I might like to see Hillary as Head of State, for example. Supreme court would be a great choice as well. She has a depth of world knowledge that would put most senators to shame.
I'm not in favor of Bill Richardson as VP although I would like to see the new government have a cabinet post fully dedicated to our interests and concerns for all countries south of the boarder and Cuba as well.

I think Jim Webb is key. He will help to turn each and eveyone of the battleground states, in the Dems' favor. He might steal a few red lights, as well, i.e. ND, Montana, even Texas (that would be a prize).

If Bill and Hill work their hearts out (and they have to, in order to repair the damage with the AA community) they can deliver Arkansas and the Jewish vote in South Florida; Webb will be a big plus in the panhandle. Webb can deliver Virginia but will also help with retired vets in the Carolinas. In addition, I think that he will be icing on the cake to carry, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri and NH. Bill Richardson will help us with Latinos in the west and in Texas.

Senator Webb will have to apologize (again) for his non-progressive stand against women in the military - he's already admitted to having been an insensitive young man' and has changed his views. He is staunchly pro-choice. And, as Marie Coco has said, both Obama and he, will have to ask women to vote for them (a la Bob Dole) and women should be able to see the vast difference in social attitudes between Obama/Webb and McCain; I don't think they want a regressive Supreme Court. Hillary should be a big help with the votes of mature white women. BTW increased AA voter registration in Georgia, coupled with the candidacy of Bob Barr may even put that red hot state in play.

Honestly, I hate all of this identity politics...but for now that's the reality of our still racist and sexist society. I guess that the fact that we're able to speak so openly about racism and sexism is a step in the right direction, a step towards a race and gender-blind meritocracy.

Yes, my friends, I am cautiously optimistic. This could be an electoral college landslide. This could be a transformative election and presidency...a true
'era of good feeling'.

A very, very savvy way to go about it - wonder if it came from Obama or C Kennedy? The other two have been involved in this before and haven't gone about it this way. I think Caroline Kennedy is an excellent choice -- from all I've heard, she is *very* sharp, unintimidated by bluster and show, and has more the point of view of a statesperson, not so much a politician caught up in the day to day. Oh, and no -- one doesn't plan to make any Kennedy but especially Caroline the 'fall guy' for anything! The last person in the world you could safely shame or blame. -- Appointing her was also a strong, deft signal that Hillary wasn't going to just walk into the job.
