Once upon a time, President Reagan put forth the Grace Commission -- this commission was supposed to identify government waste and get rid of it to save us all money. This Commission didn't achieve much.

Now, as Senator McCain looks back in time for his policy ideas, he again proposes something that didn't work. We all know there is waste in the system; but history has taught us that the best way to eliminate this waste is serious Congressional oversight (which our current President abhors) and reforms in Congress (which Senator Obama championed and got passed in the Senate).

We also know that much of this waste is directly attributable to special interests out of control. Neither Senator Obama, nor the Democratic National Committee, are taking money from these special interests anymore. Who do you trust more to actually reform the system? Senator Obama, and the Democratic Party who are only accountable to us, or Senator McCain and the Republican Party who are accountable mainly to the special interests PACs and federally registered lobbyists?

My trust goes to the candidate and the party who are walking the walk and not simply talking the talk -- and that candidate is Senator Obama, and that party is the Democratic Party.

I am socially liberable, fiscally conservative. I guess you could call me a Libertarian. I would vote Republican in the past if the social cons hadn't taken over the party and made it all about J.C. I hate big government. I am a hard-working, educated white man. And yet I could not be more proud to be voting for Obama. Sure he is most likely going to raise my taxes, but what is at stake this election is far more important than taxes, it is about who we choose to define ourselves as Americans. I for one want to be viewed as considerate, educated, even-tempered, humble, compassionate, and not self-serving. I do not want to be viewed as a racist cowboy who is proud of his ignorance. I vote for Obama because he represents a more positive image, one that lifts all people up by their bootstraps, not just the privileged few, even though I could be considered one of the privileged few. McCain is the old guard. He does not realize that a global economy cannot thrive if only certain people on the globe get the spoils. Mexicans would not be pouring over our borders if the economy in Mexico weren't even suckier than ours. What we REALLY have to worry about is if the Mexicans STOP pouring over the border...can you imagine a young Mexican man, ready & eager to make a good living, looks at the U.S economy, then the Mexican economy, and says to himself "nah I think I'd rather stay in Mexico."? Anyone who has actually investigated Obama's past will know that he owes the birth of his political career to the "white vote", because for the first four years of his political life, he couldn't get the "black vote" no matter how hard he tried, yet quickly rose through the state senate all the way to the U.S. Senate in just four years!!! This was all due to the fact that he proved he could win the "white vote." The reason why he is an even more viable candidate today is because he has proven he can win the "black vote" too. This is because his supporters are evolved enough to know that words & actions are more important than race. A man with an even temper instead of our current cowboy or McCain, the cowboy-in-waiting. A man who listens to what his opposition has to say instead of our current leader's habit of holding his breath until hopefully the problem goes away (Israel/Palestine, anyone?). A man wno encourages expert opinion, instead of our current leader who seems almost proud of his ignorance and shows outright disdain for expert opinion (joking that he only read one book while at Yale, for instance). Obama is the one candidate who remembers that the President is a SERVANT of the electorate first & foremost, not a dictator. His actions will be in concert with majority opinion, not in spite of it, as is the case with our current "leader". I laugh at those who say Obama is unelectable in the GE. He continually surprises people at every junction of his career with just how electable he is. What you dismiss as populist bs Fran, doesn't match with the fact that Exxon made a $40 billion profit in the first quarter of this year, the most profit ever in the history of American Corporations. The fact is that they are not using their profits to lessen the prices by increasing refining capacity. In fact all oil discovered here, and elsewhere is sold on the world market. The US exports 15% of the oil that is recovered here, mostly to China and Japan. So much for caring about the US consumer.
The ONLY reason that there is so much support among neo cons for McCain is because he won't interrupt the gravy train that you fat cats have been experiencing over the last 7 years.
There are too many hard working God fearing law abiding Americans being hosed by Bush/Cheney/McCain for their own greedy pockets. It ends in November.

You offer no substantive facts for your claims that Obama will raise taxes. He said he will give a 1,000 tax break to people making 150,000, or less. He's been saying that since the NC, and Idiana primaries. Your candidate offered us a measly, (I'll be generous), 33.00 gas tax holiday this summer. By the way, he's done zilch to bring into fruition.

I would favor a raise in my taxes, if it means we will stop selling America off in bits, and pieces to China, or any other nation.

We are going to have to sacrifice, just like American's did during WWII.

Obama is correct when he says Bush and the Republicans have been the most fiscally irresponsible ever.

There's been a steady increase in national debt since World War II - mostly regardless of which party controlled the White House or Congress. This steady increase has been bad enough, but consider there's been two primary jumps in the rate of debt growth.

The first - a baby jump - occurred in the 1980s under Reagan. The second - daddy jump - occurred these last seven years under Bush (and six of those years with Republicans controlling Congress.

Under Bush, the national debt jumped from $5 trillion to what will probably be more than $9 trillion in eight years. This is almost a doubling of the debt - meaning that Bush and company will have accumulated nearly as much public debt as the nation did in the previous 50 years.

Republicans seem to be the exact opposite of fiscally responsible.

He does not grasp the concept of needing to decide between food or medicine because you cannot afford both. Bitter - sure, I am bitter. Bitter because I am sick of being lied to by the republican spin machine. I don't mind being called bitter at all. Better bitter than stupid enough to fall for the republican spin cycle again. Never again. I have voted republican way too many times and always to find nothing. Not this time - not this election (pulling from Obama speech). The best properity this country has had in recent history was under Bill Clinton - which the republicans have squandered. It has to stop.

We need a statesman. Someone who cares more about the common good than scoring political points for his/her own side. Enough already. John McSame is so caught up pandering to different interest groups he is stiffled. The Republicans like to tought that Obama( and all democrats) support a tax increase. The truth is they are rolling back the tax break the upper middle, rich and corporatations received from Bush. This is not an increase in tax's just a moving back to a more fiscal responsible status quo. The tax break Obama is proposing is a middle to lower middle class tax break. We can surely see that the Bush one did little or nothing for the econnomy but did excelerate business outsource to foreign lands, record corporate and individual profits to the upper class with no trickle down effect to the rest of us. Add to this a war funded by China, in a region that caused instability in the oil futures that resulted in the price of oil to sky rocket( increase demand in India and China has added to the cost). Instead of sound leadership in 2002 by John McCain and Bush to argue for a tax to pay for the war and alternative fuel inititives we got instead tax breaks for the rich. The only people that suffered are our soliders and middle class and poor who paid for this fiasco. Now McCain wants to continue this folly so we can declare victory. Mr. McCain can you define victory? Is it like Nixon who wasted four plus years to end the Vietnam war that caused you and other veterans an unnecessary toll on lost lives for a deal we could of had in 1969-70? If it is it is a sacrifice that already is to great to pay for such a folly.
