Obama tries to send earmarks of matching funds back to Illinois for various luxaries like, roads. Obama's state is so broke though because of his actions as a Senator, they can't even come with the money so they can get the matching funds. How stupid is that? Illinois people used to make jokes about us here in Indiana. That's stopped now because now they're moving here because here is where the jobs are, and our roads don't have potholes.

This is off message to this post, but just wondering something.

I'm wondering why there isn't more mention here and elsewhere of Phil Gramm (one of Sen McCain's advisors) being a lobbyist for UBS - one of the keyplayers in the subprime mortgage mess.

I'm wondering because there seems to be such a big todo being made about Mr. Johnson (who is not acting as an advisor to Sen Obama) vetting potential VP candidates for Sen Obama.

Isn't there a big difference between the 2 men's positions for/in the campaigns? Another case of 'Teflon John'?

Seems like Sen McCain gets a pass all too often in the media on issues that other candidates get called out on.

I won't address McCain's gaffe.

I'm more concerned about his declaration to veto every single earmark.

Given how long it takes a bill to get through Congressional red tape, I should think that earmarks would be helpful in cases of extreme emergency.

In addition, Senatorial seats were envisioned as a vehicle to bring the people's agenda to the floor of Congress.

The problem is that too many in Washington have abused their power, are corrupt, and are in default of their duty to their constituents.

Do any of us pay taxes with the approval in mind that none of our money should be recycled back to address our failing infrastructure or feed babies sitting in school too hungry to learn, etc.?

I have never intended that my tax dollars be swallowed up by perks, enough bombs to destroy the earth 1,000 times over, and governmental malfeasance.

McCain has yet to convince me that he has any plan, or desire, to reform the way that Washington conducts it's business, and for whom!

Whenever I see him speak, whether it's reading a teleprompter poorly or talking extemporaneously, it seems he's always at odds with himself. Like he has some vague inkling of what he might really think but can't remember what he may have said about it last week or even yesterday. He appears unsure at best, deceptive and creepy at worst.

hollis Stacey, you don't know what your talking about, Illinois is in such bad shape is two fold, 1 governer ryan was a croke!!! governer blago!! is a idiott!! yes the state is broke, but it has alot to do with the money we get from washington for roads, our health insurance(the county health care system is broke) because the war. indiana doen not have the major population centers that illinois has. when obama was in the state senate, he got alot of good things done, health care for kids, head start for kids, drop out prevention programs, tax relief for familys making under 40,000.00.
also your roads don't have pot hole because indiana does not have the traffic and trucks, buses, 1 million car's run over our roads every day in our rush hours on all the MAJOR HIGHWAYS which indiana only has 2. and now the matching funds you say we miss out on i have no idea what your are talking about, shit you don't know what your talking about so shut up and stay in indiana!! i don't see gary getting any better!!!

What sparked the Bill in Congress was a woman, Lilly Ledbetter who worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co, after 20 years found out that she was paid 40% less than the men on the same job. This means she will get significantly less then the men on the job in Social Security and Pension Benefits at retirement.
The bill sought to counteract a Supreme Court decision limiting how long workers can wait before suing for pay discrimination.

Voted against Equal Pay Law ; the right to give Women the same pay as men because and the President said it would cause Women to file Lawsuits. Funny they did not think if Employers would not discriminate in the pay scales there would not be a need to file a lawsuit. Sounds like Sen.McCain and the President expect Employers to keep paying women less for the same job.
