I am surprised, however, that the Whitehouse would sanction this trip, considering the President has named NK part of the axis of evil.

Contrast this with the delegations going to Syria; 10 members of Congress besides Pelosi attended, so why is her visit deemed so wrong, while no one else is singled out?
Just wondering....

First thoughts

So the republicans have smelled blood and now they are circling their prey. She undermined US policy with her naivete. Asad provides funds and material support to several terrorist organizations. He gives money to the families of suicide bombers. He is a dictator who will smile as he lies to you. He cannot be trusted. He is a murderer and a liar. He has never had any intention of having serious peace talks with Israel or the US, and Pelosi had no chance whatsoever of changing that. She is the poster child for the lefts complete misreading of the war on terror, what it is, what we face, and what we must do to win it. Pelosi and the left think Syria engages in and supports terrorist activity because we won't talk to them. The fact is we won't talk to them because they engage in and support terrorist activity. Pelosi and the left think that if we just talk to them, hold hands and make nice, they will behave differently. The fact is if we talk to them, hold hands and make nice, they will believe that their murderous ways have been effective. That killing innocents has brought us to the table, that is their goal. To make us bend to their will. Even then they will continue sponsoring terrorism. The ultimate goal of radical Islam is, come on, you know the words, sing it with me...Death to America, Death to Israel! A world under sharia law. Holding hands and singing Kum-Bah-Yah ain't gonna stop them. It only buys them time. While they are smiling and shaking our hands and making empty promises to our faces, they are plotting our destruction behind our backs. Pelosi apparently doesn't understand this. Her goal was to appear diametrically opposed to Bush policy. Whatever Bush is for, we are against. Her goal was to undermine Bush. To say, "Look at me. Bush wants to have war, but I want to have peace. Bush wants to drop bombs, I am willing to talk." She is clueless. It isn't Bush that wants war, it is radical Islamo-facists. How scary it is that she is 2nd in line to the presidency. WE CANNOT FOR ONE SECOND LET TERRORISTS OR THEIR SUPPORTERS BELIEVE THAT THEIR TACTICS MAKE US LISTEN TO THEM! This is all Pelosi has accomplished. She has made us less safe. I know i'll be pounced on for this post, but it's only because the truth hurts.

First thoughts

Nancy can tell the republican'ts to kiss her backside. Currently, Republican Robert Aderholt of AL, and Republican Frank Wolf of VA both from the House of Representatives are on a tour of Syria and Israel. Additonally, Republican David Hobson of OH, also a member of the House is accompanying Pelosi. Needless to say those who grease and operate the GOP hate machine will fail to mention these facts, but Republicans are in Syria as well as Pelosi, and it is a very good thing. They are trying - desperately trying; and their old Hotline media enabler Mr Todd is trying too!! Unfortunately, it's become kind of common knowledge that a lot of GOP congress people also went to Syria concurrently, same abovementioned GOP folks had some not so complimentary things to say about the administrations inactions on Syria (see Mr Wolf-VA, Mr Potts-PA and Mr Issa-CA), and not to mentioned there was a GOP congressman on the SAME delegation as Ms Pelosi !!! I wonder why Mr Todd kinda forgets about that ... wait - he's just a GOP enabler masquerading as a journalist.

Also Mr Cheney' rather unfortunate insisitence on the Iraq Al Qaeda pre war link (Yes he's still continuing with this)has stolen the headlines everywhere from any criticism of Pelosi - kind of reminds everyone why we shouldnt trust Cheney at all!!

By the way Mr Todd - Kerry has been a hunter all his life - including hunting our enemies in the jungles of 'Nam, when a lot of other folks "chose" not to do so. You may think Kerry saying the same thing would be an issue - not many other people think so - Yes - Kerry wearing an orange suit in Ohio three days before an election smacks of pandering - but that's a different issue.

First thoughts

Bush's foreign policy has been a disaster. I am not convinced that Pelosi did the right thing in talking directly to Asad, but communication at some level is necessary. I believe that a group of Republican senators visited Syria last weekend, though I do not know who they spoke to (where was the outrage then?). My point is this, the macho posturing by this administration has proved to be unsucessful in dealing with those who consider us the enemy. When Reagan was dealing with the Soviet Union he dealt with Gorbechov (sp?) and remember Nixon had dialog with Mao in China. Kennedy used back door diplomacy to resolve the Cuban Missle Crisis. Unfortunately, this administration has failed to learn anything from its predecessors and our standing in the world community has suffered greatly for that.

First thoughts

JTB,

You mean not reporting it like the editorial in the Washington Post yesterday supporting Bush's criticism of Pelosi? You might not have heard much of that because most of the points made by that Opinion were contradicted by the Reporting done by the Post's fact-gathering arm.

In other words, it's a non-story, especially when compared to the corruption of the Bush Administration. You need to believe that the Media are biased against you because the facts don't match your world-view, so you desperately question the bias of the reporters. But, the (non-opinion) media these days doesn't run on political bias, it runs on pure capitalist economics; if the story generates interest that translates into web hits which translates into ad revenues. The Pelosi story made the rounds on CNN, Lou Dobbs, etc, but it didn't make it into my home town paper, which is owned by DAN QUAYLE's BROTHER in Law. That's how small this story really is.

Further, your claims of treason would also have to apply to Former Speaker Denny Hastert for his 1997 Colombian expedition during which he famously ENCOURAGED Colombian officials to bypass the White House.

And FINALLY, this isn't a war, it's an occupation of a civil war. There is a war on, just not ours.

U2, Hey there Brother! So, do YOU know what Cheney was doing in the bushes?

First thoughts

HAHAHAHA! The corrupt and inept crony-orama and criminal conspiracy has seen diplomacy, and it scared the hell out of them. Because the rest of the world saw it too. They thought they were done with that when they executed Powell. It would be great if the war criminals could arrogantly dictate terms to the world forever, but I'm getting the feeling that maybe that isn't working, and so is the rest of the country(except for the really, really devoted cult-types. Maybe Bush and supporters will move to Guyana?) Instead of shooting off their chicken hawk mouths they should have been taking notes. It's been 6 years since an American acted like a world leader not named "cesear" and it doesn't look like good fuel to run the Swiftboot Liars for Goebbels Tactics team - gonna blow up in your faces, chicken hawks. They are attempting to distance themsleves from Bush so they can get re-elected. Simple. As for Saudi Arabia, of course many terrorists come from that country. Many terrorists come from Pakistan as well. But their governments are not strong supporters of terrorists groups. This is why you see terrorists attacks within these countries. When was the last time you heard of a terrorist attack inside Syria. Exactly. Whenever someone makes a valid point about left wing apples here, most of you jump up and down shouting and pointing at right-wing oranges. It just doesn't work. I absolutley believe we should put more pressure on the Saudis to do more. They, however, like Pelosi, are afraid of making the bad guys mad. They, like Pelosi, believe that appeasing them is the answer. They are wrong. So is she.

First thoughts

Coy - Your post about the Speaker's visit to Syria is correct. There were several Republicans that participated in the trip. In my opinion the difference is this; Speaker Pelosi's visit was considered high level which the U.S. and the U.K. have not engaged in since early 2005 when Syria helped in the assassination of the Pro-Democracy leader in Lebanon. The other problem I have with it was that her spokesperson said that she was over their promoting an alternative diplomatic option. The problem with this is that we can't have 535 Secretary of States going around conducting their own diplomatic meetings. I understand that the Bush administration's foreign policy has been a disaster but the fact remains that the Constitution states that it is the President who sets foreign policy. I would only ask this. If Hilary was President and was pursuing a policy of diplomacy and appeasement and Duncan Hunter was Speaker of the House and he went to Syria and threatened military action. How would you feel about that? I don't imagine those on the left would be very happy with Speaker Hunter.

First thoughts

To think that what Cheney, Drudge, the RNC, or the House Republicans have to say about this issue registers in the minds of most Americans is ridiculous. Back in 1997, though he differed with Gingrich on China policy, he very clearly stated that Congress had a proper role in foreign policy and indeed should "run" it. From the Associated Press, March 18, 1997 (via Nexis):

Speaking at a news conference organized by the conservative magazine "Human Events," Buchanan said the Clinton administration's policy of constructive engagement with the Chinese was a failure...

"It's now up to Congress to run foreign policy and it has the power to overturn the president's decision" on China's trade status, expected in June, Buchanan said. "There is time to organize a campaign" to influence Congress, "and this is a battle we can win."

Here's Buchanan criticizing Pelosi's trip and the idea of a Congressional leader meddling in foreign policy on the Kudlow and Company on April 3, 2007:

Mr. BUCHANAN: Well, Condi Rice has been working on the Palestinian account and that hasn't come out very well. But you're right there. But let me say about Nancy Pelosi, I think it's a mistake for her, unlike these Republican and Democratic back benchers, who nobody really cares about. She's a major, major figure in American politics now. And this is thumb in the eye of the president of the United States, and it does send a mixed message. I remember going abroad with Richard Nixon in 1967. Every country he went to, we went to the embassy and he would say, `What do you want me to say and how can I help the president?' And the country, in its foreign policy, in talking to these leaders, foreign ministers and others. And this idea that we've got--America's got a couple foreign policies, I think, some Americans, it certainly bothers me that she's there.

Next up: GOP House leader John Boehner. Here he is in the Columbus Dispatch on April 5, 2007, frowning on the idea of a Speaker trying to upstage the President on the foreign policy stage:

In a meeting yesterday with Dispatch editors and reporters, Boehner [said] her stature gave the visit an imprimatur it didn't deserve.

"It's one thing for other members to go," Boehner said, "but you have to ask yourself, 'Why is Pelosi going?' She's going for one reason and that is to embarrass the president."

But it turns out that Boehner as a Congressman in 1997 went along on Gingrich's trip to China and praised the idea of it. From a press conference on April 9, 1997 (via Nexis):

REP. JOHN BOEHNER (R-OH): Well, let me just say that the speaker, Mr. Dingell, and the rest of my colleagues, were diplomatic; they were respectful of the countries that we visited -- but I think very clear in terms of our interest; the role of democracy that should [evolve ?] in more of these countries -- the issue of human rights. And I know from my own background, it was a very educational trip.

Why people get up in arms over people talking is ludicrous. The idea that we legitimize the government of Syria by talking is a red herring. It just isn't possible that the dems are always right and Bush and the GOP are always wrong, or vice-versa. If you believe that, you need to get out more. You need to read, investigate, and open your mind to the possibilty that you are not right about everything while everyone who disagrees with you is always wrong. That is a symptom of a mental disorder. Most of the people who post here are seemingly just waiting for each new story to break so they can pounce on Bush and the GOP. If he said it, it's a lie, if did it, it was wrong. BS. Only the most feeble-minded could buy such a load of crap. Bush will be out of office soon enough. What will you guys do with all that misplaced anger then? I guess you'll be OK, because unless something changes there will be another Republican president. I'm hoping someone will emerge from the ranks of the "don't have a chance" candidates...maybe someone like...oh, I don't know...TOM TANCREDO!!! TOM TANCREDO!!! TOM TANCREDO!!! TOM TANCREDO!!! Oh I'm sure they saw the GOP attacks coming. What I don't think they saw coming was Lauer's attack piece this morning where he cited three sources (the hawkish WaPo, the WSJ oped page and Cheney) as his basis for how she's 'usurping Presidential power.
They probably also don't see your rehashing of GOP talking points being on display for all to see on MTP this Sunday, now that you work for Welch's gang and have your marching orders. But fear not Chuckie. WE see it coming and we'll be ready if you don't mention Hastert's trip to Colombia when he TOLD the Colombian government to ignore Pres. Clinton and deal with Congress instead, or if you don't mention your colleague Matthew's comment last night that what Olmert says isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Yeah, WE see it coming.

First thoughts

Cheney accuses Pelosi of "bad behaviour" over in Syria...you'd think she was over there drinking her ass off, doing cocaine with Assad, and dancing on tables with a lampshade on her head...give it a rest Reps. Furthermore, I would support any of her political rivals, attempting to pursue a path to end this debacle, rather than continue to support a lying President and his failed stay the course stategy. However, it has always been the President in conjuction with the Secretary of State that sets foreign policy. This makes sense that their would be one clear foreign policy message from the U.S. Otherwise you could have Representatives from Kentucky deciding they approve of state sponsered terrorism and they go and meet with Iran to express their gratitude while Representatives from Massachusetts are in diplomatic negotiations with Iran to abandon their ties to Hezbolah. Obviously that is just an example but that is the principle that has always been in our foreign policy. Please read this article by the Post as they more eloquently describe the problem that surfaces with Pelosi negotiating with Syria. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/04/AR2007040402306_pf.htmlThanks for the good discussion.... And clever Press, they have us talking about Pelosi, rather than the REAL story: WHY does the Press carry water for the Bush/Cheney LIE machine? What's in it for the 4th Estate?

What I don't understand is WHY the Press doesn't keep asking the same question over and over until they get an answer:

WHY is it OK for GOP Members to sit with Syria, BEFORE Pelosi ever set foot in Syria, and WHY do they not condemn THAT visit, and WHY is Cheney still insisting OBL was hooked up to Saddam? Why have they not pointed out that Cheney is INSANE? Clinically INSANE? Or else just so ingrained with lies and evil, he is incapable of telling the truth? And do we have another Nixon here in Bush? Delusional, drunk, and living in a fantasy world where G-d tells him what to do?

What should be clear by now, after all these years, is that this entire nightmare of an Administration has been built on lies, with a huge assist from the Press. Starting with the 2000 Election until this moment in time, it is all a lie.

When are we going to hear serious reporting, serious questioning and serious challenges to lies or twisted half truths?

Where would the "Swift Boaters" been without the Press looking shocked, I say SHOCKED as they played that disgusting piece of crud over and over and over..for FREE. And during the recount in 2000, why did we not hear more about the GOP overseas ballots from "soldiers", unsigned, undated, sent in late, ALL for Bush? What does this gang of thieves have on the Press?

Why is a GOP visit with Assad not a breech, but Pelosi's is? Could it be that SHE is third in the line of succession?

Why don't we get this report, across the board:

After the weekend visit of a GOP delegation from Congress, where THEY met with Assad, Speaker Pelosi arrived in Syria with a delegation of GOP and Dems, to also meet with Assad.

OK, it needs to be re-worked, but the idea is clear.

Until the Press does their job, and hammers every lie with the truth, we will never have a truly informed electorate. WHY doesn't the Press do their job? Are they afraid? On the take? Stupid?

I can only pray that Pelosi's visit is a prelude to a double Impeachment, a 2 for 1, of Bush/Cheney, so we can rid ourselves of this poor excuse for leadership, and begin to rebuild our country under President Pelosi. If Condi Rice, that massive failure, hasn't got the brains to start talking to the rest of the world, that should not mean that Pelosi has to be so stupid.

The days of this Administration, and the Reign of the GOP are almost over, and as Speaker, she needs to establish a path forward. What THIS Administration thinks no longer matters. They don't Count. The whole lie is coming open, not thru the Press, but thru Comics like Stewart and Colbert, or Bill Maher, and Blogs, and even the National Enquirer, and shortly, we will not need the "press" to launder our INFORMATION.

So NOTE: to the 4th Estate: get you buns in gear and start doing your jobs, or you will loose what little credibility you have left. And until you do some actual reporting of the truth that demonstrates the need for "protection", don't ask me for special treatment. So far, I see no risk taking by any of you, so why would you need protection from the Government? If the Press had done it's job in 1999, we would not be in this position. Yet here they are, "exposing" how often Romney HUNTS, while ignoring actual, important lies by Bush/Cheney.

WOW! It takes REAL courage to expose the important truth about Romney hunting. Gee guys, I am in awe of you! GIVE ME A BREAK!

I could care less about hunting. So get on the job, report the TRUTH, and show some respect for the intelligence of the American Electorate. There is no need for an "investigation" of a public visit covered by Press who are there, with Pelosi, to Syria. So please don't talk about the Post and their "crack investigation team", or any other so called news Paper. Lets not go there.

The days of Watergate are LONG gone. However, I would love to see an "investigation" of the connection between the Press and this Administration.

And so lets get back on point: Pelosi visiting the most flammable area of the World as Speaker of the House is simply doing her JOB.
Why is the Press not doing THEIR job? And why do we fall for it like a dog playing tug with their owner while the vet gives him a shot?

We are in this terrible position for one reason only:
The Press and the Electorate did NOT do their job of due diligence. Now lets get on with cleaning house and ignore stupid reporting.

First thoughts

Bob - I see your concerns. I'm not sure that is an example of alternative foreign policy any more than bringing home the trops from Iraq, but I feel it was the best policy at the time. As for Iraq, I wish it were as simple as just withdrawing but I am afraid that we have created such a mess that no matter what we do many innocent people will loose theier lives. There is no good option and I honestly don't know what policy we should follow. I lean toward getting the h*ll out as I'm sure eventually that is just what we will do, regardless of who is our president. As for the N. We have always had left and right in this country, a variance of opinion. However, not since the "yellow journalism" of the Hearst "newspapers" and "Remember the Maine!" has the press been so sold out to corporate interests, so sold out to mindless jingoism, fear, and blarney. From left to right. We have lost the press. Nonetheless, in spite of ugly moments in media like charlatan David Gregory breaking and strutting as back-up for "MC Rove" while America's finest bleed for Halliburton and "freedom," and while Iraq under surge implodes, the American people have figured it out on their own. Despite Rush and his more genteel counterparts, the people are abandoning the the bull and demanding a return to sanity, honor, and a morality that doesn't smell like Falwell. Usually when one has a "war" one has specific enemies to fight. Calling this a war would be the same as calling the implementation of the Marshall Plan a war. It's an Occupation, check the OED if all these big words and distinctions are beginning to gum you up.

BTW, as a follow-up, if we're really at war, then why has our war-time president taken 405 days off in 6 years, blowing Reagan's 8 year record already?

First thoughts

Bill Richardson is going to North Kores because the North Koreans invited him.He is going with a bi-partisan delagation to recover remains. It used to be an absolute truth that the world was flat and except for a few people (like Sen Imhofe from Oklahoma) time and science has proven this truth to be false. Christians believe in their version of the truth and Moslems believe in thiers. Which is true? Probably neither because the existence of God or Allah is based purely on faith and while there may be a plethora of anecdotal evidence, there is no physical evidence to prove it. So, most people's idea of any truth is based on thier opinion or their personal summation of the facts they choose to listen to. By it's very nature, this kind of truth can never be absolute unless the person telling it is always right. So, Darren, believe in your truth but let me believe in mine. I know my truth is just my opinion and, while I may hold it close to my heart, even I know I can't always be right. I will say one thing in your favor, however, your opinions, by and large, are obviouly your own and arrived at with some consideration and thought toward the issue you are expounding. But, truth based on faith and reason doen't always make something true.

First thoughts

You know, right or left, objective or passionately subjective, this is GREAT political discourse.

Since god is backing them, there is nothing in the world they will not do for their god. W says that god was the one that told him to start this war. So W just keeps making stuff up to continue the war because he is on a mission from god. Wait do you think W watched the Blues Brothers movie one to many times. Take suicide bombers, they gladly die to meet their god. The religious freaks that shot abortion doctors. What is the difference between them and the sniper on the roof in Iraq that just shot your freind. They both did it in the name of god. You religious freaks go home and pray in the closet like JESUS said. Maybe, I can again have respect of single issue voters. NOT!!!!

First thoughts

"I do believe however, that the likelyhood is great that he had ties to Al-Qaeda. She clearly does not understand the Middle East customs and politics. What was she doing over in Syria wearing a scarf on her head trying to show deference to Syria's despot? For the third highest ranking figure in American Politics, her gesture demonstrated her willingness to genuflect to the despot Assad and to say anything that would elevate her stature to demonstrate to the world that she was important. Never mind that she had to lie to Assad about Israel's desire to start peace talks. The Israeli government would not have any of it and quickly informed the world that Pelosi is, indeed a liar. That is part in parcel with the Democratic play book, say anything and see if anyone realizes that they have been lied to. Well, Nancy has been caught in a big one and she has no to blame except herself.

First thoughts

Just an FYI on the representatives that went to Syria last week, before Pelosi made her's - they were asked to NOT make the trip by the White House. I voted for Olympia Snowe for the Senate, but I've come to regret that choice, since she and Collins always end up towing the Bush line, even against their better judgment. I didn't use to think Republicans were automatically venal, but this administration and the rubber stamp Congress' actions in support of him, changed my mind. I hate George Bush. Not the kind of hate like I wish he'd fall off his bike, but the kind of hate like I wish he'd be removed from office. The hate boils up from the feeling our country has really been damaged. I feel like Bush is President of the Republicans, not President of the United States. He has rewarded incompetent cronies and wealthy donors and installed loyal Bushies in judgeships and other offices were they will rule in favor of corporations, polluters, and Republican political interests, for years and years. Republicans seem to be the enemy of Democrats these days, of working people, people who are not evangelical Christians, people who value the constitution and who expect better of executives in the highest levels of government. The top people in the company I work for are ethical and effective leaders, or i wouldn't work there. Why should I expect less of the leaders in my government?

First thoughts

Steve Turner, I call it "The New World Order."

First thoughts

tradam - Boy are you ever in a dream world when you say that shrub fairly and squarely beat Gore, sorry to shed some light into your closed mind, but it is a fact that Gore got more votes than shrub, and that the Supreme Court anointed this Creighton to the presidency. You still don't get it. Cheney fleesed the Shi'ites in '91 and many of them died at the hands of Saddam Hussein. Then bravely he told the Shi'ites we would liberate them. Only he forgot that the Sunni (Arab) were once in control. How could al Sadar ever think he could believe Cheney/Bush administrastion. Also wasn't it the Saudi Arabian Nationals loyal to Osame Bin Laden that were involved in the Sept.11, 2001 World Trade Center Disastor. Cheney/Bush for their power grab of Middle East land for a permanent military base since they were forced out of Saudi soil. Cheney/Bush didn't count on another "Cinco de Mayo" that happened in 1862 in Mexico. All that was accomplished is that now there is a Shi'ite government that hates the Arab (Sunni) world, just where is Jordan, Eygpt, Saudia Arabia, Dubai, and the other nation stand to gain if we control Iraq? Lets face facts Darren Pope, we just allowed Iran to be the next door neighbor to Saudi Arabia and Israel. Don't strike a match until you know what you are striking it for, many people get killed or seriously burned playing with fire that they can't control

First thoughts

Bob. All he needed was "Diploymacy" and cooperation to help them survive. Why do you think Bill Richardson is in NK now? They put together a plan that NK agreed to and followed until 'ole two-gun would show the world he was little-chief big talk. At least Clinton told them if they restarted their nuclear reactor, he would shut it down permanently, even though there was a cease fire,a Truce and mutual agreement not to invade NK. That is more than west of the Pecos sherrif purposed, all this could have been avoided by saying "NO HOSTILE INTENT" But Pangyounjong knew that Cheney would try to provoke war and that would break the Cease Fire Truce that existed since 1962. "Had it not been for the food and oil agreement between the USA and NK, they would have one or possible two nuclean bombs" instead George W. cut off the supplies in 2002 and NK said that is the way you want to play, well we will restart our nuclear program and build twenty or thirty nuclear weapons and I dare you to do something about it. This was another of Bushs Blunders. How many times can one person be in charge of so many failed policies? '06 proved that at least some said enough of these "Scare and Fear" or "You Don't Support the Troops" crap tactics and everyone I know support our troops and most agree that this is another failed policy. Petreaus should have been command all this time since '03 while he was in Musul, as he knew what should have been done to bring peace to the Middle East, but I think it is too late for Petreaus to throw the "HAIL MARY PASS" that will bring this insanity to a end.

First thoughts

beaverdambob...I didn't know President Bush was a Creighton Blue Jay!? She looked great! Feminine and self assured, gracious and confident. I was so proud of her! And what a contrast to Bush's appearance at the G8 summit last year where he looked out of his league, grabbing the German Prime Minister, humiliating Tony Blair, etc. I think Pelosi makes a good stalking horse for Hillary. How great will '09 be when we have a new face representing us to the world!" LOL hahahahahahahaha! Nancy Pelosi Proud woman's lib leader wearing a burka the irony...LOL

First thoughts

!?!: Well I enjoyed pulling your chain. The righty trolls excell at me all mad with their outrageious comment so I figured it was payback time. I had a lot of fun thinking up positive adjectives for our Nancy. Beats thinking up new ways to express my contempt for the Bushies. Hating Bush is getting bad for my health.

First thoughts

!?! Also, my new thing is saying "calm down" to the righties. They hate that! I got that line from Nancy. I'm on the search for other ways to astound you. But, to be serious for a moment, let me just point out, Protestant women wear scarves on their heads to visit the Pope. Lady Di looked particularly fetching in her lace head gear. This doesn't mean she approved of the Pope not doing enough to oppose the rise of Hitler.

First thoughts

The rights shrill noise is understandable when you consider the vast expanse of political wilderness that stretches before them after '08. We must remember (maybe even hope) that these Kool-aid sucking Neocon cheerleaders are probably not in the mainstream of the Republican party. Or else you wouldn't be making such a huge deal about it. Methinks you protest too much!; and 2) Under Bush's leadership we have had horrendous results. I think virtually no matter what Pelosi said or did over there, she couldn't do any worse than Bush has.

First thoughts

Any American citizen, including members of Congress, may meet with foreign governments on fact finding missions. However, the Logan Act, passed in 1799, forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments under penalty of fines and up to three years in prison. The Supreme Court has stated: “Into the field of negotiation the Senate cannot intrude, and Congress itself is powerless to invade it.”
I think Pelosi has stepped over the line when she tried to bring statements to Syria from Israel that were unauthorized. Sounds like an investigation is order.

First thoughts

Nancy Pelosi is not a disgrace. She is Speaker of the House and, so far, is doing quite a good job. Was her trip to Syria problematic for Bush? Only because he made it so. He could have turned it into an "appreciate your help" moment and said, "let's have lunch so we can compare notes and see what you learned". That would have scored mucho political points for the Bushie and probably would have inched his approval rating upward a bit. But, this is George. Not exactly a skilled political operative.

Thank God for Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid both. They're doing their jobs admirably.

First thoughts

Nothing Bush does will ever be good enough. Remember no child left behind? all of the bills (Democratic he could have vetoed but didn't) to date he's vetoed only one billl. Working with the Democrats has gotton Bush what? He's been called every name in the book. I could go on but don't have the energy or time. Pelosi almost single handledly isnighted a war with Isreal and Syria by mistating what the one side said about the other. Maybe she's on to something we should send her over to the middle east so she can get everyone fighting against each other instead of hating us. In absense of true leadership, even the most desperate of people will turn to someone with the brass to try leading, even if it is a woman. And I wonder just how well off jtb and seano and all the rest really are after they've had their political way for 6-8 years. Could it be that some of that angst comes from the fact that they are stuck indoors, with nothing else to do but vent their rage against those who oppose tryants trying to save the world from tryanny? Me? Sure, I'm here cuz after decades of repugnican corporate suck-a**ing, which has destroyed every middle class person I've ever known, I've got no money to do anything else but listen to their drivel. So tell me guys, just how great has this bush crowd been to you, just what have they gotten for you that you couldn't get for yourself that makes you so loyal to them that you spew such hate to the opposition?
