If you do not restrict US oil from being sold on the world market, then increasing the amount of oil generated from the US will only increase oil company profits; not lessen our dependence. These are articles from 2001 and 2004 on the ANWR question:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4542853/
http://www.time.com/time/columnist/waller/article/0,9565,170983,00.html
From the CIA fact book, the US EXPORTS 1.048 million barrels of oil a day:
http://indexmundi.com/united_states/oil_exports.html
We export fully 10% of US recovered oil:
http://www.exponentialimprovement.com/cms/petrolprevar.shtml
So it is BS that offshore drilling, or ANWR will do anything about our immediate gas crunch.
We must develop alternative sources of energy; Honda's new Hydrogen car is a good start.
It is crucial we develop an economic and energy policy that does not depend on oil. McCain will not do that; he is in bed with his oil company lobbyists who want to keep us dependent on their product.

First thoughts: Gore-acle finally speaks

Chuck, you may have noticed that Detroit has been laying off workers for 20 years now. That town is dying and it's not because the old ways of doing business are working for them. Changing to producing what the world wants, a new style of high efficiency vehicle is what will create jobs for them.

I for the life of me, cannot figure out why the media is so hesitant to report accurately on green jobs. Making a car that people want vs. low technology cars that get killed by Japanese companies that get great gas mileage has been killing these companies for years. Having an aversion to taking a risk so you don't take a loss in the next quarter is what the real problem is...while Japanese culture allows for a long term vision.

Try writing about that...oh, I forgot, just quick snippets that have little basis in facts. Come on guys, take a little time to think through what you're "reporting."

http://infogiant.wordpress.com/

First thoughts: Gore-acle finally speaks

What does CW mean? I realize most conservatives are not wired that way, hence they think future - oriented people are "whacky" or "looney." Liberals look into the future and see the problems inherent in depending on oil for our energy. This is why we reject short term solutions like drilling in Alaska. The fact is, there is not enough oil in America to supply us for more than a few months. Its not just that we would be endangering our environment by drilling in Alaska, its that it really doesn't solve our energy problem. And we have a really big problem, in that depending on foreign oil sources ham strings our security, and contributes to global warming. (Yes, global warming is real. The eggheads have figured that one out.) Don't be afraid of liberalism, Jerry. Open your mind and learn.

First thoughts: Gore-acle finally speaks

Would someone from t the media please continue to investigate Senator Obama. Senator Obama needs vetting. The oil problem can not, and never will be solved by drilling. That's just a temporary fix and will only continue to line the pockets of the oil giants. That means supply will not keep pace with demand and as long as all fossil fuels are traded on the international market, then speculators and big oil companies will continue to manipulate the market for profit maximization. The only long-term solutions for the USA is to get off the fossil fuel teat ASAP and conservation is the only thing that will help us short term.

First thoughts: Gore-acle finally speaks

Are we better off today than we were eight years ago? The answer is a resounding NO and McCain has had alot to do with it by voting 95% in line with Bush's policies. We are blowing $12 billion per MONTH in Iraq during these hard economic times and the Repubs have the gall to accuse Democrats of wasteful spending? The Republicans are EXPLOITING the American people and trying to pay us off with meager tax cuts and rebates to get our votes. Voting for McCain is voting for Bush's third term. Wake up people, we need a change and fast. That's not just a slogan, that's reality.

First thoughts: Gore-acle finally speaks

"Nice.
