Hmmn, what exactly would you have him say to an 8-year old? I thought his answer was honest and answered the child's question without being condescending, or worse, rude. I'm pretty sure that by 'not talking about the VP selection' he meant with reporters, in the general press, etc. I'm all for calling politicians on their waffling and flip flops, but please.......

I've found myself often laughing over the possible veeps for Obama. So often, people are saying he needs somebody more experienced and who "knows" Washington. First, Obama's promise is to "change Washington". So why is he going to pick an outsider. Then, why is experience so critical for a veep? Over and over when people have questioned Obama's experience, pundits and surrogates have responded "experience doesn't matter." If the #1 guy doesn't HAVE to have experience why does the #2 guy? HYPOCRITES as usual. Of course, when you get a "manufactured" candidate, you can program them to speak but you can't build in the experience.

I'm just a lowly computer scientist and hobby political enthusiast. But, I have a theory on who Obama is going to choose for VP.

Obama is going to pick Richardson for his VP and go after the southwest states. Richardson has the foreign policy and executive experience resume. #1 reason not to pick Richardson is that he is sometimes not quite ready for prime time. Obama hires Doyle to handle him. If anyone needs a handler it's Richardson. Give him a prominent hispanic handler who happened to have been fired by Clinton, upsetting hispanics, when Clinton started losing. I think he's angling for the hispanic voters.

With most of the AA and Hispanic voters on his side solid, he could solidify up to a 25% of the voters on his side. It's clear the youth will be voting. Get most of the women and the liberals and you have yourself a powerful coalition for winning the whitehouse.

I think that white men and women won't be deciding this election. I think it's going to be young people and minorities. Tim Russert had it right 3 years ago that the southwest is what decides this election.

I agree with Adrian at 5:41 EDT. This is a child he's speaking to. And while he "answered" he didn't exactly answer did he? Unless you consider his response of "Gore will be someone who I'll get advice from and who'll help me" as an indication that it WON'T be Gore.

It's early people, just two weeks since he officialy got the nomination. Can we let him catch his breath, get his feet under him a little?
There are a number of qualified candidates to be on the ticket. Come late July, I think this question is very legit.

I don't know if this "NObama" identity is just one person or a group of people who think they're clever for coming up with a concoction of the word "no" and "Obama", but regardless... GIVE IT A REST! You obviously don't pay attention all day every day because you'll see that sometimes the Republicans are hitting Obama and other times the Democrats are hitting McCain. Pay attention and you'll see that there is an equal number of stories over the course of any given week or month for either candidate.

With 14+% undecided at this point the Obama people are worried. They expected a hugh bounce once the primary was over and got nothing. The majority of the undicided are going to break for McCain as they know that less government is better than more. That winning is better than pulling out and being brandished a loser. That he will only serve one term and that 2012 will be avery important election.

Obamas 46 percent is not solid number as there are many Clinton supportes that will stay home or vote mccain. the 41% for McCain is solid and they have no where to go and as long as he vetos spending bills and keeps taxes at where they are now all will be good. I think in the end it will not be close as Mc cain will win easy and he may even steal california. lots of old military guys there and McCains story is more compelling than Obamas.

Why is there so much hoopla regarding the interest rates issued to to Senator Chris Dodd in 2003. With a simple google search for "2003 Mortgage Interest Rates", one can see that mortgagers were quite commonly receiving ARM rates in the upper 3's to mid 4's.

As a mortgage lender, I am appalled that no one is mentioning this fact. Based upon where rates were at that time, the interest rates received by Senator Dodd are consistent with the market rates. It is amazing that this is getting any play at all. I guess the old saying, "Make them deny it" applies here, but this utter non-sense.

don't live and die by what FIRSTREAD puts up for the day. it's just a political blog. what isn't just a political blog and is worth crying over is the fact that if mccain is president we will be more than just inching closer to environmentally catastrophe and world war 3. experience isn't all smartie. SMARTS is. Obama has it, McCain don't. He thinks about the present only just like any republican with any decisions they make, completely unaware of the effects such decisions may have on people besides their own rich cronies...certainly not the rest of the world or even the rest of America. I personally would feel safer standing behind a man NOT salivating at bringing a gun to a gun fight, but instead a plan on how to resolve a dispute without shooting and killing in the process. Figure that analogy out smartie.

I think that Richardson would be a good choice because he has some of the experiences that could put many of Obama's plans into action. Besides, many of the foreign leaders that Obama might want/need to talk to, Richardson has already done some speaking with like the North Korean leadership.

There could be a strong pull to have a woman as well. There have been two female governors mentioned. I think that might since they are from more typically Republican states, they also would have a good chance.

The one that would have sure shot would be a female Hispanic governor with some foreign policy experince. I just don't think she exists; if she does, then she isn't interested or has a lot of bagage.
