McCain's been all over the map on every policy he holds, and I'd like to see some documentation of this in the mainstream media instead of having to ferret it out on YouTube. There's no consistency there, and I liked him much better as a maverick than as this weaselly greasy panderer that he's become.
Obama does have the appearance of having at least thought through his positions and they hang together in a way that McCain can't match. Not sure if they'll all work.

I would liken the plan to drill in sensitive areas to an alcoholic who plans on drinking the last 5 bottles of whiskey in the house before he stops drinking. Maybe the second bottle would be the final stress for his liver and he could die before he has a chance to get sober. We could drill in sensitive areas, but maybe one small mistake could cause an ocean catastrophe that could last forever. Obama is supposed to be a lawyer? He wants to use the rules of a civil court to determine holding somone who was captured on the battlefield?

There is no chain of evidence on a battlefield, no one stops to do forensic analysis of bullet casings.

So to suddenly apply the rules we use on a city street with the police, to terrorist captured in a war zone will amount to freeing people.

The terrorist just has to say "that was not my gun". Then what do you do? Match bullets to it? Check finger prints? Look for DNA?

What will be next? Soldiers knocking on the door of the suicide bombs house with a warrantee?

The Taliban strengthen in border regions while we do little.

After reading the latest McCain attempt to sound like a leader with a new idea I am struck by his willingness to treat our oceans and shorelines as if they are not all that important. Instead of drilling for more oil offshore we should have been , for YEARS, hard nosed about developing alternative fuel sources for our cars. McCain is suggesting that we do the ONE thing that NO OTHER ANIMAL ON THIS PLANET DOES.... Sh.. in our own nest. Our oceans, rivers (just look at what is being dumped into the flooded Mississippi right now) and lands are becoming increasingly polluted and damaged. Yet our solution to having ignored our dependence on foreign oil is to DRILL MORE HOLES IN THE OCEAN instead of accepting responsibility for our own mistakes. This is the reason why this country is in the fix it's in right now. John McCain is and old guy with old ideas and no vision nor concern for those that will be left behind to fix our mess. In the heat of war, its very likely that one person out of the several thousand was picked up by mistake. I dont think giving them an opportunity to at least present any exculpatory evidence will make us less safe rather than herding them in Guantanamo for the druation of the war on terror.

By the way the decision was by a supreme court of 9 folks made up of 6 conservative judges (since Alito and Roberts joined and the moderate lady left) and they looked at this very thoroughly and listened to all reasons.

If the vietnamese had been like us, McCain might today be able to move his arms above his chest. We are better than this. With much power comes more responsibilty and nobility lest we anger the one greater than all.
