How are we becoming more competitive when we don't make anything anymore. What NAFTA is doing is making corporations rich by getting cheaper labor and selling their businesses to other countries but making us dependent on other countries. We don't have our own food anymore, we don't make clothing, we are depended on other countries for oil, cars, toys, you name it and at the expense of our health. Paying to get these goods imported into America has jacked up prices on everything too. McCain is Bush's 3rd term.

McCain not only defied the Iowa governor's request to STAY OUT OF THE WAY while cleanup efforts continued; in 2007 he also voted against a bill that would have addressed flood control in the region. Typical GOP maneuvering- gut the funding for infrastructure, then show up after a disaster and pull first responders off the job for a photo-op. Disgusting.

~ not so great for the workers who have seen their good paying jobs shipped out of the country.

~ not so great for the consumer, sure prices went down, but so did quality.

It's time to come together for our country. Bush/Cheney have

created a fascist state with corporations running our government. The Republican Congress has "borrowed and spent" us into an irresponsibly huge deficit, with the paper being held by the Chinese and some oil rich states in the Middle East, and McCain is willing to borrow even more.

It's time to join together to work towards electing a Democratic President with a workable Democratic majority in both the House and the Senate.

Protectionism has never worked, but that's exactly what Obama is proposing. Every program this man proposes has the direct effect of costing the American people more money. Obama wants to raise taxes, end trade agreements that have lowered prices for many products, not look for new sources of energy, start huge inefficent government programs, and expand the governments control and take over of the health care, energy production, banking, and farming industries. It's not clear why Obama is doing this because everything he proposes to do will hurt the country in both the short and long term.

But, heh, he's gives a good speech.

John forgets the agreement that preceded NAFTA and the Canada-US free-trade agreement was the Auto Pact. News flash, John. Michigan does not need NAFTA to successfully export vehicles and auto parts to Canada. It hasn't for decades.
Also, before NAFTA, US corporations cirumvented the Canadian tariff wall the old fashioned way: by setting up satelite plants and offices in that country. You pay a few taxes (maybe). You hire a few of their workers. You gain access to that country's resources. You polute in that country. You return the profits to the head office back home.
BTW, have you talked to the average Canadian? Who do you think the vast majority of them want to win in November?

Franklin Mints, do you mean "not looking for new sources of energy" to mean that Senator Obama does not want to continure the Bush plan to colonize Iraq? We invaded Iraq for purpose of stealing their oil! Here's alittle history question--What did the Americans do to their mother country that was stripping them of their dollars by taxes? They revolted! Iraq will also revolt as a result of our invasion. We cannot set up a long term presence in Iraq without killing more soldiers.
McCain wants to continue to colonize Iraq for its oil. That is his plan for energy developement. Not going to happen! It is immoral to invade a country and steal their resoources. As you can see, we are already suffering becaue of our stealing. Not to mention the 4,000 soldiers used to steal and not to defend their country, as they were told to by a lying president/vice-president. This is sickening.
