Hopefully he will set some concrete goals and milestones for his administration. He needs to understand that small businesses need funding to develop new economic opportunities and established large businesses like autos need tax breaks to retool their business before they lose more market share because they employ so many workers. These are a form of government welfare - to be honest - but the payback on the investment is huge. Getting people non-service, manufacturing skill oriented jobs is the most important issue facing us today.

Obama, Dem govs talk economy

Obama's already acting presidential! Therefore I was not elegible for the Economic Stimulus Checks that have been going out. I survive on foodstamps and live in public housing or I would be homeless too. The ONLY way I am able to be online is because I bought this comp when I was trying to retrain and in college and the fact that I have free WiFi in my area, although that is supposed to end today. (I live in portland OR and they are selling the co, no one has bought so is shutting down)
I can tell you for sure that If I had $500 I would be spending a lot of it rather quickly, as there are things that i really NEED to buy or do. If they wanted to move the economy AND help the very poorest segment of the population at the same time, this would be the way to go, in my honest, tho biased, opinion.

Obama, Dem govs talk economy

Is the only way that Senator McCain can get some attention to make snarky comments about what Senator Obama does each day? Their response has nothing to do with Senator Obama meeting with Democratic governors.

Stubbornly staying the course is one of the worst aspects of the Bush administration and it appears that Senator McCain is of the same state of mind. At least Senator Obama is willing and to change his mind based on current and future realities and not get stuck in a rut. Politicos call it flip-flopping, when in reality it is being smart and aware.

We need a President who is willing to change with the times and circumstances. Senator Barack Obama is the closest option we have. Foregoing public financing is Senatory Obama changing with the reality of being able to collect more for his campaign through private donations. He can simply collect more than public financing can give him.

Mr. Montanaro,
Your moderation has a tendency not to post my comments whereas your fellow journalists post most of them. Please post or explain.

Thanks.

Obama, Dem govs talk economy

What a hypocrite McCain is. He has changed his mind on acceptance of public financing of his campaign as often as there is change in the weather (and some of those changes were made with illegal purpose). If the tables were turned, there is no way that McCain would accept public financing and Barack will not be shamed into unilateral disarmament (nice try John). BTW, Barack only pledged to try work out some agreement on accepting public finance for the campaigns - and this involved banning of 527's, which Johnny couldn't and wouldn't want to guarantee - so the deal was dead from its inception.

This is a non-issue. Until we completely level the playing field (banning 527's and party spending) there can be no effective campaign finance reform. And, truthfully, Barack's campaign is already publicly financed with the average donation coming in at less than $100.

Republicans love character issues (no matter how false and how irrelevant) because they are on the wrong side of every issue that is really important to the American public (after all they are the party of the haves and have mores). We Americans will not reward the party of this present corrupt and incompetent administration (probably the worst executive administration in American history - far, far worse than the administration of Jimmy Carter, certainly more damaging to our future) with re-election - that is the true no-brainer.
Obama '08

Obama, Dem govs talk economy

McCain, set down, you have no place to comment on anything, after all you can not remember day to day what comes from your mouth.

Obama, thank you, this gives me more confidence that you are who you say you are, a man who can be a president for all the people.

Obama, Dem govs talk economy

McCain is just plain jealous that ordinary people like me....who send Obama $5.00 or $6.00 a week OWN this campaign and not the "usual suspects". I work very hard for my money and I am more than happy to do it. I think Obama made the right choice on the Campaign Financing Issue. We all remember the "Swift Boat" Ads that completely blew away John Kerry's chances. It can turn a close election on a dime. I for one am proud of the way Sen.
