Wow. That's a good move.

Since the Republican use of 527s was used as a reasoning for Obama opting out of public financing, this step brings some added credibility to the left on that issue.

It also will give the Obama campaign greater control over the uniformity of the message. We've already seen the Republicans have to reign in inflammatory ads in certain markets -- Obama (theoretically) won't have to do that.

Either way, it's a win-win for the 'people' and not the corporations that currently run this country.

Well, we all know how this is going to go. The republicans will hit and hit hard and then deny of course. At least, this way, when MoveOn does come back with an ad, they can say we tried to play nice, but you didn't abide by the truce. I say keep the 527's ready and aimed. I'm sure will need them before November. I expect and demand that Moveon not let any attacks on Senator Obama or his family go unanswered. It is critical to the health of our Nation that the Democrats win this election.

Hopefully this is the start of a new political direction. Politicians claim to hate these hateful 527s, but surprise, surprise, can't or won't do a thing to stop them. They love to hide behind the lie that these aren't by their campaigns, but rogue agents.

I was very disappointed with McCain a few months ago when a republican group sponsored a hateful 527 during one the primaries. He said kind of said he was against it, but did nothing to stop it from running. After what he went through with Bush/Rove in 2000, I thought he'd show more conviction and character. Stupid me.

Barack Obama getting MoveOn.org to shutter it's 527 ads shows that Barack has the leadership skills our country needs now. We'll never see "Bush Hugger" McCain show this kind of leadership in controlling the RNC swiftboat gang of 527's. While Obama takes the high road "Mudslinger" McCain will still be taking the low road of gutter politics.

Barack Obama promised to bring a new style of leadership to Washington and we've seen ample evidence early that he will follow through on his promise. His opting out of public financing is the clearest example of how he'll change the old style Washington politics of wasting taxpayer money on political campaigns.

This is an excellent development. I know the Republicans won't follow suit and that is another reason why Independents like myself are tacking towards Obama this year. The 527s need to be reigned in and I'd love to see both campaigns do just that. Maybe if the 527s are shunned as inappropriate by the campaigns then the Congress will grown a pair and eliminate the loophole completely.

With the national media giving less independent reporting and more opinions Move-On is one more source for finding some truth amid all the opinions. i suggest that all citizens use some other sources as well. Try the BBC world news as one independant source. They report much better than the networks or cable.

McCain and his GOP sycophants will continue to deride Obama over campaign financing, but the differences between the campaigns are stark:

- Obama has refused money from federal lobbyists; McCain's campaign can't turn down any money, even from the likes of Clayton Williams

- Obama has created a truly people-powered campaign finance system, record-breaking in both the number of donors and the relatively small average donation; McCain has merged his financing with that of the RNC due to his inability to attract financing

- McCain has gamed the system, including using his ability to receive public funds as guarantee for a loan earleir in the primary; Obama has been publicly-financed through grass-roots contributions from the beginning

- Obama has the influence to lead independent groups like MoveOn away from the politics of the past; McCain can't influence even GOP organizations away from running attacks theat his own campaign has disavowed

I don't expect the usual crop of GOP apologists to be willing to face this, but fair-minded independents and individuals will see this for what it is: a sea change in the way campaigns are financed and conducted.

Past experience has been that these 527s put little into production values or market share, relying on the free media to pick up on some crappy ad running on a station in South Bumpstump to gain national exposure. Rather than outlawing 527s (leading inevitably to their successors), I'd suggest the MSM impose a rule that works not only to the benefit of the public but to themselves as well: If these folks aren't buying ad time on your network, don't give them any play in your news hole. Force them to actually have a national impact before, rather than after, you give them national coverage. And give their full pedigree if and when you do use their stuff. Otherwise, let them die on the vine out there in YouTube land somewhere with the thousands of other poor quality videos produced by political wackjobs and self-absorbed teenie boppers. Obviously, Fox News should be exempted from this rule as "poor quality videos produced by political wackjobs and self-absorbed teenie boppers" pretty much sums up their broadcast day.
