What will happen on January 21, 2009, the night after Obama’s or McCain’s Inauguration? As much as I enjoy the campaigning during this general election stretch, I wonder if anything will get done? Is campaigning in effect governing, and vice versa? Will Obama’s energy and inspirational speeches make a difference? Will McCain be able to do anything with a Congress stacked against him? Is this right now as good as it gets?

Why does the news media continue to perpetuate the erroneous idea that Senator Obama "pledged" to take public financing, when what he said was that he would negotiate an agreement with the Republican nominee? The same Republican nominee that NEVER wanted an agreement, but rather wanted to be able to call Senator Obama a liar?

Why does the media continue to report that Senator Obama is "ducking" town hall meetings when he presented a counter proposal that John McCain has not accepted? Does Senator Obama have to let John McCain dictate the terms to pleas the media?

And as usual, the media gladly plays their part spouting Republican talking points as truth. (All while poo-pooing John McCain's daily position changes (immigration, Bush tax cuts, Iraq war, negotiating with Hamas, off-shore drilling) and feeding the "maverick" lie, when Senator McCain has voted with the Republican party line 95% of the time - RIDICULOUS!)

He "only" raised $22 million in a month when it was clear the nominating race was over and the convention still over the horizon?

Maybe its me, but I think that's pretty good.

As for opting out of the public financing, if he hadn't he would have been skewered for idiocy by everyone. His real mistake was putting himself in that box by talking about campaign financing last year, when he probably didn't have to.

The good news is he didn't double down on his mistake - he recognized it and reversed it. The Republicans can try to make all the hay they like out of it, but its not something that will impact a single vote, I don't think.

The Republicans might try to build it into a trend, like the "hey, look, he's trying to win - he's a typical politician" trend. The GOP mistake here is believing the Clinton analysis that Obama supporters see him as something almost messianic. They don't - they know he's a politician. They just like him better than the other ones.

Now if you have a million and a half donors the odds are that you've got a system where you can claim public financing. It concerns me that something as important as electing a president has become a media and poll consultant frenzy. What every happened to candidates presenting themselves to the American people and allowing the American voting population to make a choice? It appears that the media are (and I must add, Matthews, Olhberman, etc.) doing whatever they can to make the choice for us. No one can say anything, this includes the candidates, their consultants and the wife of each candidate, without extreme dissection of what was said, what was meant. Every one is put in a position of having to apologize for everything. Does the media not feel that we as part of the American culture can make informed decisions without telling us what was meant by every word that has been said? I wish the media would respect my intelligence as well as my love for my country meaning I want the facts, just the facts, and not someone who has an agenda telling me what to believe. The spin really needs to stop. I'm not a child who needs to be spoon-feed and I feel very insulted by the MSNBC slant. However, I have the upmost respect for Chuck Todd and his staff for giving me the facts; unfortunely, there are program hosts who choose to extrapulate the issues and don't allow Todd and his staff's voice to be heard. Screw the critics of the Obama campaign logo. Big Deal!!! Can't they find anything better to complain about? In contrast to First Read I would say this has been an Obama week. Up 15 points in the Newsweek poll. Obama is talking about issues and all we can hear from the McCain camp and some of the media is these stupid and childish compliants about logos ans Obama's rejection of particpated in a broken public finance campaign.

Jim Webb or Joe Biden for Vice President. I wonder why no one is asking Carly Fiorina about her position on FISA. I wonder when was the exact moment in American politics when 46 years old became equivalent to 21 years old? Why are Senator Obama's lifetime of experiences in any way inferior to John McCain's? The Constitution only requires one to be 35 years old and American born.

I feel that the leadership Senator Obama has shown in running his campaign should go along way towards demonstrating that he is capable of not only "managing" the Federal government, but LEADING it, and inspiring ALL AMERICANS to once again take responsibilty for and ownership of OUR government.

Why is President of the Harvard Law review, Constitutional law professor, grassroots organizer, civil rights attorney, state legislator, and U.S. Senator not qualification enough? Senator Obama has applied the lessons learned in each of these capacities, not to mention husband and father, to run a historically well organized campaign. What more do you need?

Welcome back Chuck Todd. MSNBC made a big deal out of Obama's decision not to take federal money. He would have been accused as weak and "dumb" if he had taken it. Name me one politician, or anyone for that matter who hasn't changed his or her mind. When he agreed to consider public financing, he had no idea of the excitement his campaign has generated.

So why only $22. million in May. How about the notion that the primaries were winding down and people had a gas bill or two to pay. Come Auguest/September, the money will start flowing again.

You say Obama had a "mixed week". I think it was pretty good. McOld going to Canada and talking about NAFTA will not help him in Michigan, Ohio, Penn. McOld changing his mind on off-shore drilling will not help him in Georgia, Fla, the Carolinas, Oregon, Washington State. Keep working to find balance in reporting.

I think that Republicans are banking on the fact that there are a lot of journalists out there who, maybe, are trying to prove that they're not 'taken in' by Obama's message. "Hope" doesn't mean blindness, nor does it mean freedom from individual responsibility. Obama's message is one that emphasizes each individual taking an active role in making change happen locally, on the state level, and nationally. He often calls himself "imperfect" in his speeches. There is no messiah here -- and no delusion of one. In my experience, people who support Obama are the same people who believe in the policy program of the Democrats and who understand that a candidate who has made it through the gauntlet of Chicago politics is probably strong and smart enough to change the course of the country.

So, when you're asking who is supporting this man, and whether he will be 'brought down' by the idealists who support him... understand that there are many experienced realists who believe that McCain is wrong for this country. And that Obama has the strength to make good on the Democratic platform.

The janitor in my building who happens to be black and, admittedly does not have the experience to be president, is not arrogant enough to think he could become the president. And he does a hell of a job keeping the front entry clean.

The obamaa group just cannot take any bad press for their guy. Obama is NOT qualified - and we are sick of being called racist, bitter, hicks.... when our only crime is seeing that obama is not qualified to lead our country - and we will NOT vote for him.

If Obama is expecting all this money, what does that tell you about the economy? Other then gas prices, it seems there is no economic problems, just made up economic problems. People must be sending in their stimulus money if that's the case.

The Democrats have tried in the past putting the following as Presidential candidate and failed:
1) Peanut Farmer
2) Vice President
3) Vietnam Vet
Now, an African-American (PC) candidate preaching CHANGE to the people and is playing a race-victim card as well. Seems that this party will desperately do anything just to have their day in DC. This is a sick sign that party has an ulterior motive that does not bode well to that interest of the general public once they are lucky enough to take over this time .

obama was able to raise 22 million without having to even work for it how is this a bad month in fundraising. McCain had 3 months and sat around doing nothing but drawing up controversy. 22 million is not a bad month

If you think Senator Obama's logo resembles the presidential seal, you should do a little more investigating because the republican fundraising logos look even more so! There are three that I saw. The donor of 5,000 is the the "Presidential Roundtable" and the emblem looks very presidential. You might want to send RNC/ McCain a copy of the law. They just caught in their own web of lies. Again.

Grahm was so ridiculous on MTP. The repub's are really, really mad. I really, really don't care abaout their maddness. As I see it, Senator Obama is doing the purest form of public financing! We the public, will actualy foot the bill for his presidency.
