It will be a glorious day on November 5th, when all of these 'out of work' republicans get together to work on things, outside the beltway. I am looking for a 'Clean House'. PS. Too funny to hear how the Anti-Obama strategy wasn't much of a strategy to begin with. Repbulicans, your time has come. McCain, you can't vote with Bush 95% of the time and run on a platform of Reform, Prosperity and Peace. Those concepts are completely contradictory to your record.

1) The Bible doesn't define when life begins. I'm not splitting hairs but there is a point when a pregnancy can be terminated before a human, with a sense of self, has been formed. So, the distinction is terminating a pregnancy vs. ending a life. This is not splitting hairs but a way for most of us to reach a consensus on a very difficult issue (one on which I see both sides).
2) There is no such thing as a 'partial birth abortion'. That is a term made up by right wing nuts to rile up their minions. No doctor electively terminates a third trimester pregnancy (only quacks would do that and they work outside the framework of medical ethics and the law). A termination of a pregnancy in the third term is only done when there is non-viable or severely formed fetuses that would make delivery difficult for a pregnant woman or for a similar type pregnancy that would require C-section.

Bottom line: we can reach some consensus on the idea of appropriate application of a woman's right to choose, if we stop the hysteria (on both sides) and approach the problem rationally.

I have to agree with Marty in KC; it is the height of hypocrisy for the Republics to be allegedly pro-life and then to so carelessly use the weaponry of war for imperialistic (non-defensive) reasons. They truly are a thoughtless group who have used the truly religious people of this country as their pawns to move an agenda motivated by corporate interests. It's amazing to me how they have manipulated good people to vote against their economic self-interest and to sacrifice their children while proclaiming to represent the teachings of the Bible. How could war mongering, neglect of the poor and social intolerance be in anyway in line with the teaching of scripture.

I once had a discussion with a religious friend of mine and said, 'you know if Jesus were alive today, he'd be a Democrat.' She replied 'heck no!...he'd be a Communist!" LOL.

Well, she was using hyperbole and neither of us are Communists or Socialists but I think that you get the point.

sotiredofignorance-I believe Cleo is referring to the Oregon statute to permit euthanasia. In Holland where this is legal, DOCTORS complain that it is the families of the seriously ill, disabled, or elderly that either request this, or push their relatives to request it. Ask yourself, seriously, if you would want to be in this position. Valuing life is not ignorant, but setting yourself up as the arbitor of who lives and dies is arrogant. People are not weeds, to be judged as to their value-born or unborn. I was told by doctors that I could not bring my third child to term-I did not have the kidney function to live through the pregnancy. That 25 year old law student is getting married next week-goes to show you. By the way, I'm also against the death penalty.

Congrats on your law school grad! :-) To your point, however - you were given a choice, were you not, whether to continue with the pregnancy?

I don't agree with abortion, or selective reduction either. I also value the lives of women and don't want to see us return to the butchery that was back alley illegal abortions.
