Sudden thoughts and second thoughts.

- I sure hope today’s event with Barack & Hillary is a huge success. Has anyone else noticed besides me that HRC seems, oh I don’t know, softer? She is almost enjoyable right now.
- If the event in Unity, NH is big today (and I mean thousands of people), why is it being held on a Friday? Are we being set up for a big announcement; maybe she has been selected to be his VP?
- Why aren’t there more big events for Barack? It’s almost like that has become our natural comfort zone with him. It is the setting and environment we all came to enjoy most. Frankly, I miss the huge crowd events.
- Why does the Gallup daily tracking poll show Obama and McCain close on Mondays, expands in Obama’s favor during the week, and close again prior to the weekend?
- Does anyone else feel the media is pushing everything towards a close election? It’s almost as if they will not let Obama get too far ahead; and if he does, they try to reel him back in. Keith does not do this on Countdown. Just listen to the undertones from Matthews, Todd and others at NBC and you will feel this too. If Obama has a good day, see how quickly Rev. Wright & the elitist comments start coming back.
- I am still pushing for Nancy Pelosi to be the VP nominee. Anyone else agree?

It's funny, I was one of the Obama supporters who thought that the fact that Hillary was still in the race after it was apparent that she's lose was a selfish thing for her to do.

But I now see the wisdom in it !

She actually helped Obama and made him a better candidate.

The recycled Republicana attacks seem old and tired just like their candidate.

We have to credit the Clinton Kitchen Sink strategy that toughened up Obama.

He seems battle tested and ready.
He looks sharp and ready to answer all the tough questions.

He is always respectful over McSame's service even though the republicans don't respect Obama's record (Don't they know that this doesn't work? Ask Hillary).

He's smartly moving to the center ... and outmanouvering McCain.

The last politician who was this cunning was Bill Clinton.

I'm sure that when Bill watched Obama's press conference recently he said "wow"

Why is his being pro-2nd Amendment and pro-death penalty for child rapists such a shock? On the first he specialized in Constitutional Law, and the 2nd Amendment is pretty explicit. The role of the President is to protect the Constitution. Duh. On the second he's got two young daughters. I'm about as liberal as they come, and if anybody raped MY young daughter (or son) I'd gladly seek the death penalty. Of course, that's an emotional reaction, which is why we let the Supreme Court settle such things.

Anyone see Morning Joe and their discussion of the "Republican brand" this year, along with how McFossil's being run? It's so fun to watch Republicans squirm in their conservative seats as they try to come up with reasons (ANY reasons) why Mcfossil should be the next POTUS. Now they're back to "experience" when, in fact, he has no more experience than Barack. They kept saying McFossil's campaign is being run poorly by Rich and Black. It's pretty easy seeing Obama's support base. But considerably harder to find McCains. He's all dressed up and no place to go. If he moves right, he gets tied to Bush. If he moves center (to be a maverick) he loses the neocons. If he picks Romney, he loses the evangelicals, if he picks a pro choice VP he loses the pro life people. Likewise, I don't see a large group of "worker bees" ready to register voters, get out the vote, put up a million signs, donate even small amounts of money.
Republican congressmen are right. There are few safe seats. 2008 will be a very bad year....for Repblicans.

He won the popular vote by winning the popular vote in non-gun culture states by large percentages, and losing the Electoral College [but still maintaining a national propular vote lead] because he lost by slim margins in pro-gun states, like his home state of Tenn. for example.

Jim Granger in Holden, TX-apparently you missed the part where he TAUGHT Constitutional Law and the role of the President is to UPHOLD that same document. The fact that he backs the Supreme Court on the rulings is exactly what he is supposed to do not freak out or "get his Billy the Kid starter kit" as you so eloquently put it.

I can't help but think that the Republicans should be VERY afraid because of what has been done to this country over the last 8 yrs. They call the current congress a lame duck congress well exactly how effective would you be if every time you voted on something and sent it to the President he Vetoed it? Not very effective would you? It also strikes me as odd that Bush hardly EVER vetoed anything when the Republicans ran Congress. Anyone else see this besides me?

No wonder the approval rating for Congress is low as heck. It's not their fault though.

As for the donations for Hillary, Barack stroked a $2300 check for her last night (which is the maximum that he can give) and he is also asking that his supporters help her pay off her debt. That is the coolest thing, IMHO. He didn't have to but it shows no hard feelings.

So clearly it doesn't come as a surprise to anyone that I don't agree with the above statement. And here's why:

Senator Obama has ALWAYS proposed that the only way to get things done is for us to work TOGETHER. Working together means you have to COMPROMISE. There is no other way. While the media has great fun calling it flip flopping, I would much rather have 50% better healthcare than the status quo. I would much rather have 50% of the troops home from Iraq than the status quo. I would much rather have a 50% more environmentally friendly energy policy than the one we have now.

Good government is not about "my way or the highway". It is about incremental changes in the right direction. Senator Obama is the candidate to make that happen. THAT is what America needs - PROGRESS - not more high minded debates about conservative and liberal philosophies.

P.S. Ducking town hall meetings? Why can't Senator McCain COMPROMISE and come to an agreement with Senator Obama?

Flipping on campaign finance? Senator Obama made a conditional statement in support of accepting campaing finance, and those conditions were not met.

Straddling the fence on guns? Senator Obama was in favor of the DC ban, and the Supreme Court disagreed. Is he supposed to cry about it? He focused on the good things in the ruling, and proposed ways to move forward within the constraints of the new ruling. Isn't that what we want our leaders to do - accept reality and move forward?

Once again Murray's bias is showing.

First, Obama did NOT "flip" on public campaign financing because he never agreed to accept it in the first plade. Repeated assertions that he made such an agreement is what Josef Goebbels called the the "Big Lie" method.

Second, McCain has not made "subtle shifts" in his position. He flipped on off-shore drilling, he flipped so hard on immigration that he said he wouldn't even vote for his own bill. And he's made numerous other radical reversals in position, not "subtle shifts."

And what's with the "brand" buzzword? Why is this now being used all the time? To borrow from a Republican congressman, McCain's "brand" is bad dogfood that should be taken off the shelves, despite the desperate attempts made by the corporate media to salvage his sinking campaign.

Obama is a Chicago polititian, he endorsed his mayor, who has strict anti-gun laws (ie., no guns), and the Cook county president, who has strict anti-guns (ie., no guns). They both endorse Obama too. So now your here telling us that Obama is not endorse strict anti-gun laws when his entire history shows that he does?

Pat, you might want to read up on what Obama has done for his state of Illinois regarding 2nd amendment rights. I think you'll be shocked how anti-gun he is. And that is why I call him a fake today.

DC banned guns because they became known as the Murder Capital of the WORLD. Not just the US but the WORLD. When they banned guns the murder rate dropped. DC isn't as large as Chicago is and I'm sure there aren't enough police to actually uphold the ban on guns there but someone needs to do some creative thinking to at least get them in some type of "check" because people are dying on a daily basis and it's not just for "protection". CHILDREN are standing at bus stops and being shot. What kind of mess is THAT? Who was protecting themselves waiting for the bus???

That is why there should be some type of exceptions to this law but there can't be because it has to be applied straight across the board. But again, since he said what works in one place doesn't work in another, he was right on the money with that statement.

He explained the gun position. In urban areas, gun control is necessary. Unlawful gun ownership is a problem. Crime is a problem. Enforcing laws in crime ridden neighborhoods with high unlawful gun ownership is a problem. Many of us who live in urban core recognize that. I am not trying to subvert lawful gun ownership. I am in favor of aiding the militia (in this case, local law enforcement) in their quest to fight crime. Yes, it is complicated. But I think we can all get on board with lawful gun ownership.

None of the candidates are without blemish. However, unlike other posters, your railings know only one source of disdain, the Obamas.

Why do the Clintons, and McCain get a pass over their failings, but you deny the Obama's the slightest bit of tolerance in your hearts?

The role of the President is to protect the Constitution. Duh. On the second he's got two young daughters. Exactly. It shouldn't be a shock at all. Anyone that has paid any attention to Sen. Obama and his background should know this is how he'd respond. Like said he's a constitutional lawyer and professor. Of course he's going to be in favor of protecting the Constitution and upholding it. However that doesn't mean there can't be restrictions on gun ownership. There is no reason at all for anyone to own automatic weapons for example. Hand guns and hunting rifles are okay. The 2nd Amendment allows for restrictions. Those crazy about gun ownership should know this.

As for the death penalty it's simple. He's a father of two young girls. Anyone even bothering to question that is just crazy and really looking for something, anything to hit Sen. Obama on. The man isn't a pacifist or he most certainly isn't anti-war.

No. The most Obama's can give is $4600 ($2300 from each of them). 4,600 compared to over 22,000,000 is nothing. His donation did not "pay off her debt", it was merely symbolic - Obama's way of asking his supporters to help Hillary out. There is no "back door" advantage here for Obama.

I think its actually a misundersanded yes. You are allowed to donate up to $2300 to every individual candidate if you wanted to, you could have even donated the maximum simultaneously to all eight, when they were still in the running.

I agree with Jin Granger! obama is nothing but a fake. you his supporters would defend him if he was a child molester. there would be some rationale that you could site and a bit of rhetoric you would use to prove your oiint(not very well I might add)

The fact is that this issue is critical and politically fatal for obama. I know as I am involved in the 2nd amendment support movement and NOONE trusts or will vote for obama.

So talk and bluster all you want obamites. it matters not and you will NEVER win us over. give that message to the pandering candidate that you support.

Just because Obama endorses a particular candidate doesn't mean he believes everything that candidate believes. You can endorse a candidate who is anti-gun, without being anti-gun yourself, if you believe many of that person's other qualities/beliefs are the best (for that area) of the candidates on the ballot.

I really enjoy your posts. About Nancy Pelosi, I'm not really feeling it. I don't have anything against Pelosi, I just don't feel that intangible "magic" with that pairing. Can you explain why you think that would be a good ticket? (And yes, the media desperately wants this to be a close election. They miss the Clinton Obama fight so much it hurts! :>

P.S. I agree with you about the big events for Senator Obama - but it has been a really long campaign. . . I'm sure when the time is right - there will be more rallies. Hopefully in Nashville, Tennessee! :)

P.S.S. The Gallup Daily Tracking poll is like weighing yourself everyday - it's not a good idea. Trends are more important (and reliable) than the daily account of how a new random sampling of people feel . . . that poll could be effected by whether or not they had a bad commute or something! lol
