This issue with Wesley Clark is manufactured nonsense. The response from the McCain camp that an Obama ‘surrogate’ is demeaning McCain’s service is laughable. McCain’s highest rank was Captain. Wesley Clark was a 4-star General. You should compare and contrast their Wikipedias. The Republicans are scared s*&tless that Clark will be Obama’s running mate. He clearly has the military and foreign policy gravitas to blow the bloviating McCain out of the water. McCain’s verbal stance of taking the high road in this election certainly hasn’t measured up to the actions on the ground. “…I’m not going to call him elite. That would be wrong”. Their campaign is a complete joke. I believe a 4-star general has the right to say, “Well, I don’t think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president.” That is his professional opinion. To trivialize him as ‘an Obama surrogate’ cheapens his own military service. If this remark had come from Gibbs or Plouffe or any other non-military campaign supporter, maybe. But a 4-star general? Get over yourself!

I’ve been a proponent of Biden or Webb for Veep; but not wanting to take away from the Senate majority any more than is necessary. Now I am convinced that Clark is the perfect Veep choice. The reaction of the full-on Republican attack mode convinces me that they are actually afraid of this pairing. To see the McCain camp in ‘righteous indignation’ is completely hysterically funny to me.

He escaped righteous punishment a few decades ago with the Keating 5 scandal all because he was some supposed war hero. He was a war zero as he was unlucky and incompetent as a pilot and he does not understand warfare. Barack Obama would make a much better Commander in Chief because he'll listen to the military experts, unlike the fools in the White House currently have done.

Leading up to the 2000 election, McCain was the Maverick because he saw that as his only chance at the presidency.

After tough talk against Bush, he realized he had to join with Bush or he would never win the presidency.
Since 2001, McCain has repeated sided with Bush. In 2007 and 2008, McCain has agreed with Bush on over 97% of all votes.

Since winning the nomination, McCain has tried to repeatedly hold Republican only invitations town halls. When McCain's questioned by Independents, he flip flops depending on the question.

Look at McCain calling himself an environmentalist in Oregon. A couple days later, McCain says we have to drill offshore and in ANWR. Then, a couple days later, McCain admits this drilling won't really help.

What gets me the most is even after he said the drilling won't help, he ran ads saying this drilling would solve all our problems.

Clarke's personal opinion sheds some light on the specifics surrounding the McCain persona his campaign is based on and insulates the general from attack because of his own vietnam service and experience. I think he may be playing the "bad cop" to Obama's good cop (of not attacking McCain's background. It not only undercuts McCain's credentials in a backhanded way but, at the same time, frames Obama's lack of exprience as still being a liability but not something that cannot be learned through leadership experience (ie.
