North Carolina is a long-shot, but a possibility for the same reasons that Virginia isn't a long-shot anymore - changing demographics in favor of younger suburban professionals.

Its true parts of Virginia aren't the south anymore. And that line is pushing further south. Twenty years ago the border between mid-Atlantic and South was the Occoquan River. Today, its darn near the Rappahannock. And the Virginia suburbs to the north have been one of the fastest growing areas in the country.

The general: Is the South out of reach?

WHICH IS THE BETTER SOLUTION TO OUR OIL & ENERGY CRISIS?

1.) That's a fact. Rural areas in NC are staunchly conservative and it isn't true that the Afican-American voter demographic will go to Obama automatically. It's amazing the difference a few miles makes. That being said, a lot of conservatives aren't too giddy about voting for John McCain either. They may choose the silent third option and simply not vote. Racism is not dead in NC, but its not as prevalent as many people would have you think.

What it all comes down to is that NC is still in play for Obama. I just don't know if its worth the fight and the resources. I'm from NC and I DON"T think it is. Focus on Virginia and Florida. They are more likely to support Obama for less effort. Especially if McCain keeps talking about drilling off the Florida coast. The poor economy is throughout the country, not just the North, or East or West........it also affects the South. Obama needs to hammer home the lies told by Bush 7 1/2 years ago and the promises made and never carried through just to get elected. Bush lied to the entire country and now you are beginning to see the effects of that. He should be impeached and tried, along with Cheney, as war criminals.
