This was your tax dollars at work.

He crashed a total of 5 planes during his flying career and he is considered to be the probable cause of the worst shipboard fire in Navy history on the USS Forrestal. His incompetency killed several American sailors that day.

McCain dumped his first wife because she gained weight after an almost fatal auto accident. Then after he returned from Vietnam, he was constantly committing adultery, including with future wife Cindy, before he finally divorced his first wife.

He went to flight school because he was an admiral's son and bumped someone who earned the right to go.

Except for the fact that he actually went to Vietnam, he is just like Bush43 -- a poster child of nepotism.

Despite being promoted to Captain (probably because of daddy, the admiral) and his time as a POW, he was never given a command befitting that rank, once again, nepotism at work.

He's flipped on every issue that he used to have a firm position on, including the issue of torture. Ironic huh.

His judgement also includes being part of the S&L scandal (he was a member of the Keating Five, but Cindy's money got him out of that) and condoning the Swift Boat attacks on John Kerry. Hypocrisy much!

We've already had one undeserving President that got everywhere because of his father, we don't need another.

Prominent evangelical warms to McCain

Politics is the art of compromise. It was illuminating to me the total frustration of the evangelicals with McCain and Bush. Bush actually spoke at the conference, (it was still an invitation only thing), but nobody was all that excited to go. But it was the attitude towards McCain that was most interesting. The movement was called "Just my vote". In other words, McCain would get their vote, but not their money or their work. This is where I think that McCain is going to have trouble. The folks that campaigned and worked to get out the vote for Bush, are just not there with McCain. The dollars for mailings and emails are just not there for McCain. It's the enthusiasm that McCain lacks.

Prominent evangelical warms to McCain

Carol from NJ--you said it all! At the beginning of the primary season, I told my father, a conservative Republican, that the person who would get my vote would be the candidate who argued most persuasively for getting our combat troops out of Iraq; the man or woman who had the smartest approach to improving our ailing economy, schools, and healthcare system; and the one who exhibited our best chance for regaining our respect from other nations around the world. That brilliant, articulate, thoughtful, and compassionate person is Barack Obama.

My dad, who is fiscally responsible and very attuned to economic affairs, is struggling with his choices this year. He doesn't feel "safe" with Obama (since he's a younger, less-known candidate), but he sees that McCain's gimmicky ideas for solving our complex economic problems won't work, and his attitude towards war is scary.

My prayer is that Obama will just continue to stay on message, showing people who he is and what he stands for. NOW it is very simple since you've explained it to me. We know that McCain is qualified to be president because he was in a fighter plane that was shot down but what makes you say that Obama is hardly the one to talk about religion? We know he is a Christian who was brought to Christ by a very influential pastor and worked with faith-based organizations and churches during his days as an organizer. Since he is putting more and more of his story out there, I was relieved to see that his faith is such a large part of his make-up. I don't think America knows how McCain feels about faith and the Lord but we do know that Republicans traditionally kowtow to the religious right. I guess there is hope among the evangelicals that McCain will come around.

Prominent evangelical warms to McCain

You're exactly right, ejs, and that's what I was thinking as well. Same thing goes with his affiliation with Rev Wright.

I don't think Obama is the only candidate to have ever changed his position on an issue.

Prominent evangelical warms to McCain

To Carol, Long Valley NJ:

Great post - I want what you want! :)

Prominent evangelical warms to McCain

Be real. This has nothing to do with Burress being "impressed" by Sen. Mr Burress, please look up the word Evangelical in Webster's dictionary. I wont write the whole definition here, but this is a close definition of Barak Obama (agreement with Christian Gospel, salvation of faith by personal conversion, etc)- Obama has worked to help the poor in many ways and in the process was converted to Christianity, and he is still working to help them, not like John McCain who is working to help the rich, like the money changers in the Temple. Looks like you caved to John McCain and he has pulled the wool over your eyes. It was made a big deal on TV networks last Sunday because he went to church, which he usually doesnt, before meeting with the Grahams. Dont McCain and his wife have living spouses whom they divorced, which isnt condoned by the gospels? Obama may support abortion, but has said ONLY as a last resort.
You should have held to your original statment that "We dont like him." John McCain is not close to being one of you and I think you should be ashamed!

Prominent evangelical warms to McCain

Even Evangelicals are flip floppers. Burres was against McCain before he was for him, and was for Pornography before he was against it. Go figure. Some of these Evangelicals are the biggest hypocrites there are.

Prominent evangelical warms to McCain

I am pretty sure this country was built on the seperation of Church and state. I wish people would vote and think like that.

Vote who will help the economy and keep us safe, not on whether you think an unborned fetus is a person or not.

Prominent evangelical warms to McCain

So for Phil Burress, the Presidential election is about the Supreme Court. There have been justices appointed because they were either conservative or liberal and Presidents thought they were getting a like minded justice. Well, that didn't work, because U.S. Supreme Court judges are sworn to uphold the constitution. They rule based on the facts presented and the U.S. Constitution, not the Bible.
