Dumb dumb dumb.
NObama (Sent Tuesday, July 08, 2008 11:37 AM)
....................................................

You're right, oil companies are the reason there is a problem in this country today. No regulation of the speculative crude market. An administration in bed with the oil companies and no comprehensive energy plan for this country.

From Forbes:

“While the U.S. oil industry want access to more federal lands to help reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, American-based companies are shipping record amounts of gasoline and diesel fuel to other countries.

A record 1.6 million barrels a day in U.S. refined petroleum products were exported during the first four months of this year, up 33 percent from 1.2 million barrels a day over the same period in 2007. Shipments this February topped 1.8 million barrels a day for the first time during any month, according to final numbers from the Energy Department.

The surge in exports appears to contradict the pleas from the U.S. oil industry and the Bush administration for Congress to open more offshore waters and Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling”.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
U.S. oil companies and administration officials have been telling Americans that the price of gasoline is a function of supply and demand. Americans have been told to use less, to conserve. Senator McCain (and the administration) is advocating drilling for oil off the outer continental shelf. We would not see results from off-shore drilling for or more 10 years. Americans have been told that there appears to be no real, viable, short- term solution to this crisis.
While all Americans are suffering from the economic impact of the price of oil, the major domestic oil companies are recording record profits with no windfall profit tax that could be used to cap, subsidize and reduce the price of gas. There are no plans to build additional refineries to convert crude into usable fossil fuels.
Now we find that domestic oil companies are EXPORTING record amounts of gas to other countries, further reducing the limited supplies of oil we have on hand for consumption. The export of domestic US oil has added to the ever increasing profits reported by oil companies each quarter. While domestic oil companies have reported tens of BILLIONS of dollars in profits, average Americans are struggling with pocket book issues, largely the result of the trickle down effect the price of oil has had on a variety of US industries.
Oil companies are EXPORTING OIL to increase profitability. I find it absolutely incredible that Congress has done nothing to stop this practice.

As the business decision by big business to export oil is clearly detrimental to the U.S. economy, why hasn’t Congress passed legislation to enforce a moratorium on the export of U.S. oil? Certainly, the supply of oil available to U.S. consumers would increase substantially. Republicans are pushing for off-shore drilling: we know why they would be against the moratorium.
Question to Senator Obama: Why haven’t you raised the issue of oil exports? Why are you not pushing for a moratorium on oil exports? Why are you not advocating a windfall profits tax or a cap on profits for oil companies with the extra revenues used to subsidize the price of oil? Why are you not insisting that the obscene profits these companies are making be used to build more oil refineries to convert crude and increase supply?

Obama camp responds to RNC ad

The Obama tax credit of $1,000 is less than $20 PER WEEK. Obama critizes McCain for his proposal to stop federal taxes saying it does not mean anything then he proposes a program that provides less than $20 per week in benefit. This proposal is stupid just like the one time benefit checks. None of this provides any long term help. All of this is the equivilent to picking fleas off a dying cat.

Obama camp responds to RNC ad

Yep, Obama, tax those oil companies which will then pass it on the people. He was talking about a plan the Pentagon had worked on for some twleve years to deal with security, political calamity amongst the three main cultures in Iraq, how to keep the peace once we got there, etc. Basically everything was ignored by Rummy and Dickie and Bushie. I beleive they wanted disorder. Right at the very beggining of the war Randy Rhodes of Air America fame, predicted that the war didn't have anything to do with wmd's and that what Dickie and crew were hoping for besides possible total control of Iraq oil, was that calamity in Iraq would help drive oil prices up for all the, now obvious, reasons. What is McCnutballs plan for Iran and Iraq and how much further would he like to see the price of oil go up? How many more Billions will Americans spend waiting eight to ten years for oil when we don't have refineries to produce gas for a country that, Like Barak Obama has been saying needs to learn how to function without. I drive with Bio-diesal and next year my wife and I plan to install Solar Panels. We need common sense solutions to our energy needs and our bugdetary problems. Let,s put America to work like we've done before, with new tecknologies for energy needs and infrastructure and quit fighting wars that our leaders don't care about winning.

Obama camp responds to RNC ad

It's annoying to me that the media is trying to make people believe (because perception is reality) that McCain actually has a chance to win in November. The headlines on CNN that McCain and Obama are neck and neck (regardless of the polls showing Obama has consistantly been above McCain in the polls since he clinched the nomination. MSNBC's dumb article about pet owners going for MCCain? Where do they come up with this dribble. I know they thrive on conflict but even they have to know that something in this country has to change. If another republican gets elected I will know that they truly did steal the election. I only know about 1 in 20 people who would vote for McCain. Even my Grandmother who has been a lifelong Republican refuses to vote for McCain because he supports the war and she wants our soldiers home. If she's finally smartened up then you can bet most of America has turned on the GOP (gas and old party) too!

Obama camp responds to RNC ad

Obama is on firm ground here. McCain's tax plan provides over a billion dollars in tax breaks for Exxon-Mobil, a company that The Economist called "conspicuously absent" among companies investing in research on green technologies. There is little about McCain's energy or environment plan that makes sense. It is the piecemeal hodge-podge approach of a candidate who is not committed to making progress on either issue.

http://ilfamilypolitics.blogspot.com

Obama camp responds to RNC ad

I loved this new ad!!! I just keep thinking eventually they'll get a clue and realize that the American people have them all figured out. The American people are sick of this crap. We are informed, armed with the ability to do our own research on the internet and we actually are giving a damn this year. HURRAY! A change is gonna come!

Obama camp responds to RNC ad

Ira,

But the U.S. does have alot of oil, we have billions of barrels off the west, east and florida coasts alone, lets not even mention the oil shale in Colorado and Montana, Canada is sure doing well with it.

Obama camp responds to RNC ad

I'd much rather prefer a plan that reduces our dependence on oil rather than scrounging the earth looking for more and giving us the false home that we can forever continue to live the way we live. NOw or later we're going to have to do this so rather than wait until later when it might be too late and we've done too much damage why not get underway using renewable energy. The only thing I wish they would have done rather than send people $600, $1200 or $1800 for families to spend more money at wal-mart supporting the Chinese is to match down-payments for first time home buyers, pay 50% for the price of solar panels for those willing to install them, give people $3000-$4000 in rebates if they bought a new vehicle with 30mpg or more and reward people for the kind of behavior we'd like to see more of and which would actually improve the condition of this country rather than just throwing money at as many voters as possible to pander to us. I didn't mind getting my check for $1800 for my family of 4 but I know the effect of those dollars spent by our government would have been much greater had their been some provisions attached to the dollars which forced people to do something smart.

Obama camp responds to RNC ad

Dookie, If we had continued investing in alternative fuels over 30 years ago we wouldn't be in this mess. So stop with the drilling bit. It hasn't worked for decades and it won't work now.
