For unemployed, those with large medical bills or crisis, the bankruptcy laws are already in place. But, let's open up the gates and let whomever wants declare bankruptcy. Typical for you, Obama, that people don't have to take care of their responsibilities and take ownership for their poor choices. In addition, the credit industry is already in serious trouble due to housing crisis. Put some more strain on them with unnecessary bankruptcies and see what happens. Obama has no brain to see the ripples that changes in the economic system cause.

Obama hits McCain on bankruptcy

There's something funny about Obama trying to make it easier for senior citizens to declare bankruptcy when running against a senior citizen who has teetered on campaign bankruptcy since originally laying off staff last summer.

Obama hits McCain on bankruptcy

Barack Obama has come up with a good plan considering there will be many more bankruptcies under his administration then if McCain were in office.

Obama hits McCain on bankruptcy

You can't judge McCain on his record anyway because he's run so dramatically to the right. All I can say is that a vote for the GOP is a vote for the Gas and Oil Party! A vote for Obama is at least a vote for a new direction. At this point most Americans are willing to vote for anyone who is willing to change policy from the Bush White house. America is not buying what the GOP and the zelots are selling anymore. 0% growth for the average family over the last 8 years. Increased debt for the country and its average citizen. Oh wait! There are more millionaires and multimillionairs than ever though!!! Plenty of contributors to the Gas and Oil party out there. He told us to stay in school and I did, eventually becoming a physician.
On the way home from that parent-teacher conference I asked my father what was the difference between Democrats and Republicans. I don't think much has changed in nearly 50 years....the Democratic candidate is still looking after the disadvantaged and the Republican candidate is still protecting the wealthy. The G.O.P. has no heart.....it is all about MY Money (it is hard-earned and you are not getting any of it), MY Family (yours needs to get jobs and work harder), and MY Religion (yours is a cult).

Obama hits McCain on bankruptcy

McCain's voting record mentioned by Senator Obama shows a sheer contempt for suffering people. The same kind of contempt that McCain showed for his own disabled first wife.
I have a very difficult time understanding how a man who came back injured and disable from the war, that you would assume had developed more empathy for the disabled, ended his marriage to a disabled woman. I don't care what a hero he was to this country, if he was, but he certainly was no hero to his own family.
McCain has demonstrated contempt for his own family and now for the middle-class families of America!

I have heard minister's repeatedly say that "your private life affects your public life"--especially in reference to President Clinton--well now the same does and will apply to John McCain. His actions speak much louder, and those are the actions of a far left, partisan Senator who does not have the experience to be president. People should expect the government to bail them out because of their mistakes. Obama would like to see a socialist government. Why should the government bail out the housing crisis, the people losing their homes knew what they were doing. I believe the government should stay out of the housing business and let the people and the banks work it out. Maybe housing prices will return to would they should be. During the past 8 to 10 years the values of homes jumped to high to fast and everyone knew the bubble would go bust. Now they expect the taxpayers to bail them out. When are we going to quit depending on the liberal politicans and be responsible for ourselves.

Obama hits McCain on bankruptcy

Im still waiting for my check from Obama to help pay off my debts, since he was helping Hillary pay of her's, what's stopping him from helping him pay off mine.

Obama hits McCain on bankruptcy

I love how most the people here are talking about bankruptcy like it's a vacation from debt.

This isn't a handout, it's a renegotiation of debt. People aren't always getting debt wiped clean and starting over, they are getting a chance to catch up on existing debt. Most of the financial institutions and predetory lenders that handed out the bad debt in the first place would be the ones getting hit.

So.... the individuals that go bankrupt are marked for their poor credit status for 7-10 years...and the lenders get smacked for the bad-debt they helped create. This helps protect those who don't have a choice in their loss (hurricane, flood, medical condition)

And do you think the creditors will be a little more stringent on the ratio of debt to lending if they had as much to lose? You bet they would.

Bankruptcy isn't a badge of honor either...it's a last resort...if you want to come down on this institution lets see you give that Social Security check back when it comes time to retire. That's another form a government help for those who have meager financial means
Obama hits McCain on bankruptcy

I bet we all would love to have $65,000 dollars worth of "stuff" and not have to pay for it.

Carol
****

Most people with huge debt are not surronded by tons of loot. Most of the time it is from late fees, finance charges and overage charges. They can mount from hundreds to thousands a month with no way to catch up. Most of the time the are charges for medical expenses, food, gas.

Obama hits McCain on bankruptcy

I think if this man gets into office "WE WILL BE IN A DEPRESSION!"
Carol
*****
Oh we may, but it wont be his doing. It will be fallout from the Bush administration. Obama will be the one left having to solve the problems. See FDR. Learn history.

Obama hits McCain on bankruptcy

I find it funny that people would attack Obama on this considering MCCAIN is the one who has a storied history with people loosing money, "Home savings and loans Scandal" ring a bell. This Maverick, has been taking money from people since the eighties.

Obama hits McCain on bankruptcy

I listened to this speech and what I did not know was that if you have two homes like a home and a vacation home, you can keep your vacation home?
