What a joke, Obama. For unemployed, those with large medical bills or crisis, the bankruptcy laws are already in place. But, let's open up the gates and let whomever wants declare bankruptcy. Typical for you, Obama, that people don't have to take care of their responsibilities and take ownership for their poor choices. In addition, the credit industry is already in serious trouble due to housing crisis. Put some more strain on them with unnecessary bankruptcies and see what happens. Obama has no brain to see the ripples that changes in the economic system cause.

Senator McCain has a 26 year voting record which includes, but not limited to, voting against environmental issues, middle class benefits and subsidies, veterans benefits and women's rights.
He is against all bail-outs, includig helping homeowners that were the victims of predatory loans. He's rather see them lose their homes than offend the lending institutuions.

His voting record is the reason he has had to flip-flop on so many issues. His record would never pass the test of public scrutiny. That's why he is running from it.

McCain is an agent for big business. Look at his record, his advisors and his policies.

As soon as my children left high school, they were getting several "offers" from credit card companies. They didn't bite due to an agreement that we had regarding their finances in college.

These companies are as responsible for the problems as the people they accuse of being deadbeats. Time for them to have to deal with the pain they have caused others.

Many are National Guard who had to give up their jobs and salary when they went were called up. Their families cannot make it on military salaries. There is no government relief and these men and women can't come home to "talk" to their lenders.

McCain is against a bailout for these families.

He can run ads and talk about being in the military and a POW. Honorable service. Today's John McCain could care less about today's veterans.

My spouse is an estate attorney and I can tell you that the solo practice business skyrocketed just before the new bankruptcy laws went into effect because of the onerous new laws that were coming in.

But I'm going to have to slightly disagree with Senator Obama even though I support him 100%. I disagree that he didn't provide full disclouse that the people who helped write the bakruptcy laws
were people who were lobbying for the credit card firms and are now tangentially attahced to Senator McCain's campaign (people like former Senator Phil Gramm who is a vice chair for UBS, the same firm that was against mortgage relief legislation)

I do not think a fast track bankruptcy is the answer for credit card debts. This morning on CNN, a lady was asking what to do about $65,000. in credit card debt, should she take bankruptcy. How did she get that much in debt and then take bankruptcy. I bet we all would love to have $65,000 dollars worth of "stuff" and not have to pay for it. I think if this man gets into office "WE WILL BE IN A DEPRESSION!" You just can't let people run up bills and heavy debt and give them an out. She knew what she was doing. Companies can not stay in business if we are going to let it be okay to do that. The only people who should be allowed , should be medical illness debt and military personel who have no other recourse. We really need to be careful, if its that easy, there will be mega abuse.

Many years ago our high school principal gave a speech like Senator Obama. He told us that our chances of playing professional sports was like winning the lottery...one in a bezillion. He told us to stay in school and I did, eventually becoming a physician.
On the way home from that parent-teacher conference I asked my father what was the difference between Democrats and Republicans. He told me the Democrats were for the "little guys" and the Republicans were for the "big guys". I don't think much has changed in nearly 50 years....the Democratic candidate is still looking after the disadvantaged and the Republican candidate is still protecting the wealthy. The G.O.P. has no heart.....it is all about MY Money (it is hard-earned and you are not getting any of it), MY Family (yours needs to get jobs and work harder), and MY Religion (yours is a cult).

McCain's voting record mentioned by Senator Obama shows a sheer contempt for suffering people. The same kind of contempt that McCain showed for his own disabled first wife.
I have a very difficult time understanding how a man who came back injured and disable from the war, that you would assume had developed more empathy for the disabled, ended his marriage to a disabled woman. I don't care what a hero he was to this country, if he was, but he certainly was no hero to his own family.
McCain has demonstrated contempt for his own family and now for the middle-class families of America!

I have heard minister's repeatedly say that "your private life affects your public life"--especially in reference to President Clinton--well now the same does and will apply to John McCain. His private life is a sad reflection on values.

I love how most the people here are talking about bankruptcy like it's a vacation from debt.

This isn't a handout, it's a renegotiation of debt. People aren't always getting debt wiped clean and starting over, they are getting a chance to catch up on existing debt. Most of the financial institutions and predetory lenders that handed out the bad debt in the first place would be the ones getting hit.

So.... the individuals that go bankrupt are marked for their poor credit status for 7-10 years...and the lenders get smacked for the bad-debt they helped create. This helps protect those who don't have a choice in their loss (hurricane, flood, medical condition)

And do you think the creditors will be a little more stringent on the ratio of debt to lending if they had as much to lose? You bet they would.

Bankruptcy isn't a badge of honor either...it's a last resort...if you want to come down on this institution lets see you give that Social Security check back when it comes time to retire. That's another form a government help for those who have meager financial means

Most people with huge debt are not surronded by tons of loot. Most of the time it is from late fees, finance charges and overage charges. They can mount from hundreds to thousands a month with no way to catch up. Most of the time the are charges for medical expenses, food, gas.
